It has taken almost 8 months to build a 1350 square foot home. That's about 4 months too many. When we asked for reasons for the delay, we were given any number of excuses and repeatedly told all the things that he was doing for us. It seemed like we should have been grateful for him doing his job. When asked for a completion date, we were always told he would need two more weeks before he could say. Four weeks later, he still needed two more weeks... and now it's almost a year later. Yes, some of the problems were because of the Belmont CDC not keeping him in line, but he is the one who chose to get out of line. We have had to extend our construction contract and we've almost missed our contract date with the bank, which could result in a legal battle. In the end he has put about $20,000 in upgrades into the house that we never agreed to and cannot be held responsible for. That's a good thing, but it makes me very nervous for the next young couple who he takes advantage of. When we finally moved in, we did not have heat. Because we called another company for a quick fix, Carrothers told us that we have voided our homeowner's warranty and refuses to fix the problem. SInce consulting an HVAC specialist we were told that our duct work is wrong and will lead to major problems. Vents were also installed incorrectly. In addition, he did not put in the appliances requested and substituted countertops without our permission.
