The insurance company paid more than enough money to finish the work on the house. Delay after delay kept pushing the completion date further along. Before the house was to be 100% completed, the manager of the company & his wife (also a Statewide employee) were pressuring me to surrender the RCV check. I told them I needed to inspect the finished work on the house first, then would surrender the check. The company left town sometime in June. No notification was given to anyone in New Bern who allowed Statewide work on their homes. After I made multiple attempts to contact the owner, Travis Miller, Icontacted the mortgage company, who finally contacted the owner & informed him I still had the RCV check available. Travis Miller told the mortgage company that I still owed him money, so the mortgage company wouldn't reissue the check in my name only in order for me to find another contractor to finish the work. So in mid-August, I allowed the local contractor, Hugh Vernelson, who was still associated with Statewide, to continue the work. He assured me he could finish the work in 2-3 weeks, since my house was the only job being worked on at the time, & he would stay in the house to supervise when other workers were there. During the next 8 weeks, Both Travis Miller & Hugh Vernelson increasingly insisted that I surrender the RCV check in order to "financially finish the house". I was advised by my insurance company, the mortgage company, and my lawyer, to hold onto the check until the work was completed 100% to my satisfaction, & the final inspection with certificate of occupancy was done. When that was said, Travis Miller halted all work. My new roof has been leaking since it was noticed by me in mid-August, creating and increasing amount of damage to the new ceilings & walls. Both Hugh Vernelson & Travis Miller were aware of the leaking roof at that time. I had to pay out of pocket to move my furnishings out of the warehouse that Statewide rented (hadn't paid the rent since April 2012) The insurance had already paid Statewide to move my furnishings out & to move them back, plus storage rental, yet Travis miller refused to hire a moving company to move my furnishings. I still cannot get my clothing & miscellaneous linens/items from the cleaners because Travis Miller hasn't paid the bill in full. My insurance company also paid Statewide the money to pay the cleaners. To date, 16 months later, I still cannot occupy my home or have access to my clothing/linens, & I cannot hire someone else to finish the job because Travis Miller will not sign off on the contract that he has breeched.
Description of Work: Tarp was placed on the roof August 31, 2011. Removal of my household contents of the first floor and part of the attic, which was not done by a bonded & insured mover. Total deconstruction of the 1st floor of the house to the bare studs except for the main bathroom & kitchen. The ceiling started to sag, so the remaining household contents of the attic were removed, again not done by a bonded & insured mover. New wiring, sheetrock, paneling, insulation, ceilings, fixtures, painting of the walls, most of the trim, & metal roof placed. New HVAC & ductwork installed. A support beam was installed where the ceiling was sagging. The hardwood floors were refinished. The master bathroom shower stall was completed, but the sink & toilet are not. The tile floor was installed poorly. First completion date was around Thanksgiving 2011. Second completion date was before Christmas 2011. Third completion date was January 31st, 2012. Last email from Tom Simpson about completing the work & ready for me to move in was the first week of April 2012. Mid-August, Hugh Vernelson started to work again on finishing the house. Eight weeks later, the owner of Statewide, Travis Miller, refused to authorize completion of the work.
