Recently retired from the military and relocating back to NC, we decided to "support local" for an AIA accredited architect to help design our custom floor-plan for our retirement home in the outlying New Bern area. What a HUGE and COSTLY mistake we made. We gave Sarah, from GO Architectural Design complete architectural freedom to help design our forever home based on our design criteria which was specified on her designated form. We also sadly learned through this process, that her preferred communication is via email which is exceedingly problematic, and has been proven to be inefficient and extremely costly to us, as a consumer, when designing a custom home. After over SIX THOUSAND dollars ($6,000) of her "billed time” as well as over the course of more than 8 months, she failed to deliver ANYTHING close to what we wanted. We were completely astonished as she constantly blamed us, the consumer, for her failures - going so far to belittle my spouse on several occasions. Never before in my U.S. Army Corp of Engineers career, have I ever dealt with such an argumentative and dismissive business "professional." If you're looking for a simple remodel, then maybe this company might work for you, but if you're looking for a custom home design, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend finding someone else for your forever home.

Sarah and Irina at Go Architectural Designs did a great job interpreting our goals and helping us design the dependency/studio added to our New Bern house. They helped us visualize how to integrate the structure and other added elements into our courtyard and made sure that it would be in keeping with the overall architectural appeal of our house. As they have a full understanding of the requirements that must be met in New Bern's historical district, they navigated without problems through the City's approval processes. We highly recommend their work.

Overall, it was a very good experience. Rather than trying to fit our requirements into a pre-existing building, we had the space custom-fitted for our needs. GO Design + Build and their subcontractors did good work, on time, and the entire project cost less than I expected. They took ownership of the project and we didn't need to worry about the quality of materials or the subcontractor's work.
