It was a disater from the start first off he wanted to save the effort of the job and decided it was not nessacary to tear of the old roof, save some work and money, grandpa agreed. First day on the job I noticed he had no tar paper which would have added $500.00 est to the project if that. ( I was a professional roofer for 2.5 years but due to my busy schedule I was not able to do the job). While I watched Joe start the roofing I noticed he was not even installing a starter course as well, When I asked him he stated "awe you don't need that I never put that down it's just a gimmick. I pointed out to him that it clearly states on every package of shingles that you must lay down a starter course or the warranty would be voided. He agreed to lay the starter course down. It took him over 3 weeks to complete the job and when it was finished we were just glad to see him gone. Well when the rains came this fall you guessed it roof leaking, called him he showed up within a few days stating that he would look to see what was leaking, Well he stated it was a loose nail that never seated into the roof right and was causing the water to leak in the nail hole????? but stated it was fixed. A few weeks later guess what leaking again, this time when he first walked in the door he states must of been because of that earthquake we had a few weeks again loosed up the roof around the chimney. I was home and never even felt the quake, yeah right...well he looked it over determined that it was leaking he states through the side of the motor in the chemney and then getting into the house and coming out of the chimney onto the wood causing the leak. He then stated that if it does not leak after the next big rain he will be charging us for the repair call. What you're going to charge me for a bad job that you should be responsible for. Fist off you should have put new flashing around the chimney and sealed it properly so it would not have leaked. Now I have to replace the ceiling in my kitchen which was just repainted cuse of the water damage a poor roofing job caused. I WOULD NEVER USE JOSEPH CAVALCANTE FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN TARGET PRACTICE.
Description of Work: Our house was in need or a new roof. Mr Cavalcante stated he can roof and quoted a price to my grandfather that was 2 times cheaper than the previous estimate.
