The Grout Medic - Raleigh Durham & Chapel Hill

I found Bruce to be dismissive of myself and my partner because we were unmarried, liberal, young 20-something with a child. In making small talk, we discussed the upcoming election. Bruce told me that he completely disagrees with homosexuality and thinks it's disgusting. I sent him this email (direct quote, in it's entirety): Dear Bruce, Thank you very much for your time and estimate. I am sorry to inform you that we will be remodeling with another company. With all due respect, I cannot patronize a business that supports Amendment One. I hope you have a nice day. Sincerely, Nicole Dautel He sent me this reply (direct quote, in it's entirety): You are determining my ability to perform my job based on my political affiliation. Now that's liberal tolerance. You will tolerate anyone's beliefs and or ideas as long as they are not Christian conservatives. You should be ashamed. The Grout Medic Needless to say, I found this behavior highly unprofessional on several levels. I am disappointed in a company that has received such high reviews on Angie's list.

They did a real good job for us. They charged around $1000 for the service. If there is a need, we would use them again in the future too.

They were great. The gentleman who came to do the work only put the grout that I decided on around a couple of the tiles. When I got back, I realized that the grout was a different color than what appeared on the charts. He worked on the rest of the floor, and I got to look at it. The tile floor looked better than the day it was installed. The price was fine.

This is actually two reviews in one. The first job was to regrout the entire master bath. This was done in September 2011. When Bruce came out to quote on the work, he was extremely thorough in explaining the regrouting process. He was patient and answered our questions. We had scaled back our initial remodeling plans but were still intending to replace the shower enclosure. Bruce referred us to another business for the shower enclosure. We were very happy because the cost was considerably less than other companies. The regrouting job took two days. The worker was very focused on the task and was detailed oriented. Some tile had to be replaced when the old shower enclosure was removed. While effort was made to keep dust contained in the bathroom, some did get into other areas of the house. But this was not a big deal for us. The end result was a fabulous job. The tile and grout looked like it was just installed. The caulking overall was ok but there were some questionable spots. But we were very happy with the work. Once the new shower enclosure was installed and we completed the remaining cosmetic work such as painting, new plumbing fixtures and mirrors, our bathroom was warm and inviting. From quote to finished work, Grout Medic was a pleasure to deal with. And we saved a lot of money by not having to replace the existing tile. In December 2011 we had Grout Medic come back to repair some loose tiles and cracking grout in our kitchen. The worker was very diligent and courteous. Holes were drilled into the grout so the rebond material could be injected. The worker indicated that he used more than was needed. Every time he poured it in, the excess on the grout surface would quickly make its way under the tile. The next day he filled in the holes with new grout. Then the color match sealer was applied. This is when I got concerned. The color was very light but he said it would dry darker. The next step was to apply the caulk. The color of the caulk was correct and I figured that he noticed the difference. But if he was not concerned then I would wait to see how the grout looked once it dried. Unfortunately, the color did not darken. This was brought to Bruce's attention. He was very accommodating and came by to check out the job. It was obvious to him that this was a problem. That was a relief to us. Bruce sent two workers out to remedy the situation. The problem is resolved and the floor looks great. We all make mistakes. But it is what one does to address them. Bruce and his staff at Grout Medic strive to meet and exceed a customers expectations.

You couldn't ask for better workers than Bruce and Rick. They arrived promptly and worked through the day. Both were polite, gentlemenly, and informative. Bruce went above and beyond the work order, even accompanying me and my husband to Lowes' to pick the right tiles. The screen door to the porch was accidentally ripped and Bruce immediately took it to the hardware store to be fixed and then reinstalled it. The finished work was just as I hoped it would be. Two thumbs up!.

I'd thought I was going to have to have my shower stall tiling completely replaced because it had large areas of missing grout and caulking and I couldn't control mold in these areas. It smelled of mold and was generally gross. Tiling in my 2 bathrooms flooring and bathtubs surround was in better shape, but grout and caulking had shrunk and was discolored. I came across the Grout Medic in Angies List while researching having retiling done in the shower and thought I'd check into whether this might work as a solution. Blane came for an estimate and assured me that regrouting and caulking and replacing the shower door while keeping the existing 4" ceramic tiles would solve my problem. He gave an estimate for this job and also for grouting of all the tiles in both bathrooms. I decided to do it all. The job took 2 people working 4 days to finish. They reviewed the work to be done, were polite, very neat and cleaned up after. Taking out the exisiting shower door damaged some of the tiling, and also it was found that minor repair work needed to be done to the rotting wood under the curb. This added $180 to my estimate. I was able to find a close match at Home Depot to replace the few damaged tiles and they blended in well. Everything else went according to plan. All grout and caulking was replaced sealed, tiles cleaned and sealed and the shower door replaced. It was fairly expensive to have all this done but I feel as if I have new bathrooms and am very pleased with the job.

It was a great experience! They provided an estimate and specified exactly what they would do and how long it would take. The service went exactly as expected and I’m very pleased with the work overall.

Bruce Lane (owner of Grout Medic) came to my house to give me an estimate. He gave me two prices, one being a "worst case" scenario, in the event that the pan under the shower had to be replaced (which is common in older homes, especially in Cary, NC, for some reason). Bruce did a good job of explaining the "hows and whys" of the various components of the estimate. As it turned out, we did not need the pan replacement (which saved us $1,000). On the first day, Wes and Greg arrived right on time and got to work. Greg's part of the job only took two days, but Wes was with us all week, doing the larger of the two jobs (demo and tile replacement). Greg did good work on the grout and tile repair. Wes also did excellent work. He paid a lot of attention to detail and seemed very committed to doing a quality job. Both men were pleasant and professional.

Wesley did a great job, very thorough arrived exactly at 9am and finished up aound 3:30.

I was very pleased with the Grout Medic experience ? from the initial estimate to the final completed job, everything was professional and of the highest quality. The owner, Bruce, did the initial estimate and was very thorough. He measured carefully and even suggested some additional services ? color coordinated caulking ? that could be done at the same time to improve the overall look of the kitchen. The estimate outlined exactly what was to be done and the price was fair. On the day that the work was done, the technician (Rick) arrived on time, knew what needed to be done and got right to work. Throughout the process, he was very friendly and helpful, answering our questions and explaining what he was doing. The work was high quality and completed as promised. Our rejuvenated grout looks great! We are very pleased with Grout Medic and will use them again.

They did a great job. This the second time we used them. Update - after while we noticed there were some low spots around the drain so water can collect and not finish draining. No big deal so far, but a little concerning.

Bruce, the owner of Grout Medic came to our home promptly to assess the job and quote. I mentioned Angie's List and the past responses and asked that he personally do the work at our home. He said that would be highly unlikely, but to my surprise, when my date of service arrived, Bruce was the one doing the work. I must say that I love my floor. The kitchen had become very dark after 12 years of use. They look so much better and I am once again proud of my floor. Felt the cost was quite high, but that is life. I highly recommend Grout Medic if you feel your tile needs help.

It was very, very good. It was excellent. They did a very nice job and they were very responsible.

The work turned out pretty good, but I had to call them back just to do some more touch-up work. The workers were professional and polite. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

Bruce arrived quickly & promptly to measure; he was able to give us the estimate before leaving. We negotiated a couple of items and settled on a date. The technician (don't know his name, but he looks a little like Will Smith) arrived promptly even though the roads were icy that day. He was very good to put up with two dogs (one very noisy!) and worked most of the day, even though I had to go to work. He did an excellent job and cleaned up perfectly. The shower looks almost new. Although I am not pleased with the color of the grout around the bathtub, that is due to my wanting to save money by having it cleaned & sealed rather than changing the color. The technician called that evening to check our satisfaction and was very helpful discussing the job. He did a wonderful job and I will definitely have this company back to re-grout the tub surround!

We hired The Grout Medic solely on the recommendation of other Angie's List subscribers who gave them positive reviews. We were originally not satisfied with the work done. While the steam cleaning worked well in the kitchen, it did not do well in the bathroom where we had epoxy grout. Some of the staining in the kitchen was not carefully done. In the bathroom, a white haze from the sealer was left on grout not cleaned very well. Update: 1/5/11 I have received a call from the owner of this company with an offer to come inspect the work himself and do what he can to fix the problems. I have agreed and will update this report accordingly. Update 1/18/11 Bruce came out and spent the afternoon touching up the kitchen and stripping, cleaning, and re-sealing the bathroom. He explained some things he saw that had been done incorrectly and he spent the time necessary to make it right. We were impressed by this willingness to fix a problem and grateful for the improved results.

Technician was prompt and courteous. I was very pleased with the steam cleaning. When job was completed the bathroom looked like new. Screws in the shower floor drain had rusted and tech could not remove it because he didn't have a drill. Another date was agreed upon and other techs with a drill came and completed the job.

They were very courteous and professional both when Rick came out for the estimate and when they other guy (sorry don't remember name) came to do the work. He did a great job of replacing the broken tiles, even when I ran out of whole extra tiles he rearranged things to minimize the showing of the broken ones that had to be reused. The next day he re-grouted the whole kitchen and cleaned everything up very nicely. The kitchen is a galley style 1'0x12' (approx). I gave price a B because it just seemed a little high, but I don't really have anything to compare it to. Their work was top notch though.

From start to finish the entire team was very professional, cleaned up everything and I am ready to hire them again to replace the tile grout in our bathroom.

The grout in the bathroom was in good shape, but was dirty and unsightly due to not being sealed. The workman did a wonderful job, even removing my previous unsuccessful attempts. The bathroom floor looks remarkable! He even called to let me know he could start the job early if it was convenient for me. Easy to work with and great service.

I would heartily recommend this service and company to anyone who is looking to restore and refresh old tile in a bathroom without the expense of actually renovating with new tile. We were looking for a way to minimize the financial outlay but still bring the bathroom up to date and new-looking. Grout Medic did the trick. In addition, the original quote I received included re-grouting the floor tiles which would have been very time consuming since they are the original hexagon type tiles. The technician tried applying just their cleaner to the floor and it made such a huge difference in appearance that re-grouting wasn't necessary. This saved me about $200 off the original quote and I'm very happy both with the results and the fact that I was given that option. The technician was prompt, professional and efficient. Couldn't ask for a better experience. So far all my experiences with companies I have found on Angie's List have been top-notch.

Absolutely a fantastic job. Looks like new. Very friendly and professional. One person, took a full 8 hours. Explained the process very clearly. I have a new shower! Would definitely recommend.

All of the grout work was fine. The people are very friendly and seem responsive while on the job. If I was just grading the grout work I would probably score them an A. It is the other work that I have to score a C (or lower) which drops my overall evaluation. In general, they seem to lack attention to details. Also, it seems like they just want to provide anything that seems to work while on the job, hoping they don't have to come back to really provide an adequate fix. The master shower door was installed ($200), but not quite right the first time. At my request they came back in an attempt to fix it--but they ended up with a simple bandaid (they really seem to like silicone which does not work as an adhesive) that was not at all satisfactory; It looks like I will have to get this fixed by someone else as they really seem to have no idea how to properly install this door. Also, they returned at my request to properly fix the drain screen in the master shower, but ended up using screws that they happened to have on their truck rather than getting the proper flathead screws. I would consider using them again for grout work, but I think I would go with someone else to handle the hardware (for $200 I'm pretty sure I can get better work).

Great. Bruce did the work himself. The tile is nice and clean, the shower floor looks great, the other bathrooms grout on the floor looks great too. He was on time, did an excellent job, trustworthy, did not jerk us around and did what he said he would do and did it well. Very excellent job! Would contact him again and would recommend him.

A gentleman spent most of the day here performing the task noted. He cleaned up and did an excellent job. It was much better than I expected.
