The Grout Medic - Raleigh Durham & Chapel Hill

We contacted Grout Medic 2/1 for an estimate. Bruce responded quickly and we set up a visit 2/9 for an estimate. We were pleased with the estimate (the price quoted includes a discount for Angie's clients), and set up the work for 2/17. Jason called about 15 minutes before the scheduled time, and arrived right on time. He set up quickly and got right to work, explaining what all would be done. He showed us the importance of their cleaning out the drain and weep holes (which hadn't been installed correctly originally, explaining the cracked grout on the shower floor in a fairly new home). The finished job is beautiful. It does look like a new shower. Jason also explained the warranties included (5 years for the newly done floor,3 years on colored sealer) and how to clean the shower to extend the life of the grout. Jason was very good at his job in all aspects. We will call Grout Medics again if we need anything done to other tile in the house.

The entire job went very smoothly and was completed on time. Greg, Jason and Chris arrived on time as promised and worked all day one day and Greg came back the next day to complete the job. All three were very professional and extremely courteous. We couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the work and the responsiveness of these three gentlemen.

This was our second project with this company. They are clear and precise in all matters. Jim and Kevin did the work and it took them 5 days. They were excellent. They created minimal dust, cleared up every day before leaving, and reviewed with us all unexpected issues that arose. The construction is excellent, Jim's tiling is beautiful, and together they completed the project as anticipated. Bruce (the owner) talked me through some decisions we needs to make before we could start, and his advice helped us achieve this great outcome. Our new shower is beautifully integrated with the rest of the bathroom.

Bruce, Chris, and Graham did a great job. Bruce and I made an appointment for an estimate. We agreed on an amount and scheduled a time for Chris and Graham to come to do the work. They were on time, polite, and professional. Any glitches were resolved immediately and they finished the job in the time estimated for them to complete it. I would definitely use them for future work and recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

it did not go well. The clear seal did not coat the grout and water still penetrated the grout on the walls and floor of showers.The manager Bruce tried to blame the poor job on the tile installer or the plumber ...he was arrogant and very agitated that I was not happy with the work of his two employees. The gentlemen that arrived to try and recoat was very nice and apologized for his bosses behavior. I was so irritated with how he spoke to me that I have asked for a refund . I will use a more professional and qualifed grout company. Not resentful just learned not to ever use them again.

The shower repair was the first job. Greg removed our existing glass framed door and the tiles on the knee wall came right up with it. We knew we had a water leak at that knee wall, but really got lucky when the tiles came up because he was able to find the cause of the leak (faulty seal on the shower door) repair the water damage, re-use the tiles (blessing b/c we had zero replacement tiles and aren't original home owners so no clue who did original install) and he re-grouted, re-caulked entire shower area. We were referred 3 companies to call for a new shower door and the work is guaranteed for 5-8 years. The kitchen repair was done by Jim. He explained why the grout was failing over and over by showing me the subflooring and how it wasn't secured properly when the home was built. He was able to salvage 8 of the tiles and we had some extras in the attic for him to use for the ones that cracked when removed. He also feared that leveling the subflooring could cause other tiles to shift, so he sent his assistant to the store for some "stuff" that will help secure the surrounding tiles to the replaced ones. They steam cleaned the tiles and grout and hand painted the color-sealed grout. The kitchen looks like new. They cleaned up nicely when they left and were very knowledgeable. Also to note, we felt comfortable enough with both crews to leave them in our home unattended. We've called on a smaller, one-man tile company before to fix both issues and he didn't have a clue compared to how thorough these guys were. They were upfront and fair in their pricing and estimates and gave us the option to "bandaid" fix which was still a really viable option or to truly fix both issues. They stand behind their work and product with a lengthy warranty as well.

Bruce came and evaluated our needs and advised us on needed repaired to our flooring. He immediately prepared and then reviewed his written estimate with us. He was helpful and explained what needed to be done to correct problems with our floor. Chris and Richard worked tirelessly on removing the blue stains from our shower floor and wall tiles and regrouted. They showered looks terrific now! Jim then worked for the next two and a half days to replace the flooring in our water closet. He explained what he was doing as his work progressed and did a fantastic job! Everyone at Grout Medic was professional, prompt and pleasant. Our project was done well from start to finish!

They did a great job of scheduling and keeping me up to date on when they would arrive. They adapted to my schedule and showed up on time. Jim did our work for us and he was extremely professional and did an excellent job.

Grout Medic repaired or replaced and then resealed the grout and caulking in our Master Bath and three other bathrooms. They also replaced the marble entrance slab that was cracked and replaced several cracked tiles. The guys from Grout Medic showed up on time and finished the job on time. It was not perfect the first time but they made it right. Three of the bathrooms in our house are not used a great deal anymore since our kids are grown. I wanted these rooms cleaned very well and regrouted and sealed. My hope was that this would be the last "big cleaning" these bathrooms would need. The job in these three smaller baths, completed in November 2014, went perfectly and have held up very well. The Master Bath is used twice a day and really gets a workout. In the summer the bathroom is steamy, a perfect haven for mold. In November 2014 Grout Medic completely replaced the grout and caulking and the shower and tile really looked great. A few months later the shower floor did not look so great. I asked them to come back and Bruce, the owner, told me that they would redo the shower floor and reseal it. The technician came and started working. I didn't see the floor until it was done. He had redone it in a bold white rather than the soft gray we had on the floor originally. I told them I'd see if I could live with that color. Several months later I called grout medic and told them that I didn't like the stark white color and in September 2015 they sent in a technician and replaced it with a darker color that is perfect. I have found it very easy to deal with Bruce, the owner, Greg the technician and Melanie in the office. They have all been very polite and professional. Melanie went out of her way to schedule jobs at a convenient time and Greg was very careful to make sure that I got exactly the color I wanted when he redid the floor. Then new color seal has only been on the floor for a few weeks but I am happy with it.

I am extremely happy with the quality of this job! Greg started the job and was punctual, polite and very effecient. On the second day he was joined by Jason who finished the job. Both did excellent work and were very professional. I actually added something on at the last minute and they were very accomodating. I would recommend and hire again!!

The technician showed up on time, explained in detail what he was going to do, answered all my questions, and then got right to work. He cleaned up as he went. After he finished he explained again what he did and the warranties. The whole thing took 2 hours - less than I expected. The work area was clean when he left. All the seams are very smooth.

I just wrote a check for $370 to a grout company to correct what Grout Medic charged me $4,096 for. I?m not happy. I?ve taken a couple of weeks to get some perspective on this job and this review before I posted it. I wanted to calm down a bit and let some of the frustration subside. In a nutshell, I?m dissatisfied with the job I received, and I?m very frustrated with my communications with the owner, Bruce. He wouldn?t admit any mistakes, always had an excuse, and with each communication he made me feel as if I was wrong and he was right. This was frustrating at first, and then infuriating as the relationship collapsed. Here is a partial list of some of the things that went wrong: On job #1, they installed the glass tile on the back wall of the shower upside down (which they of course denied. When I showed a picture of the tile to Byrd Tile ? the tile company who sold me the tile ? they told me the ?repeat pattern? was obviously installed upside down). In addition, the glass tile was also very different in color than the sample I saw at Byrd tile, and since Grout Medic picked the tile up from Byrd, I had not checked it before installation (this was my fault, and from now on, I?ll monitor each job every step of the way?). Job #2 was to have them back to now install the porcelain tile and re-install the shower door. When they were done, the grout was (is) bleach white and doesn?t match the other marble tile?s grout at all. REALLY sticks out! When I called the company to complain about the obvious color difference, they told me it can?t be done (?Read the contract ? we don?t guarantee anything? was their answer). Now this is completely different from what they told me when they bid the job. They assured me they would ?match the grout color? and that they ?were experts? and that they do it all the time, and that I would be happy. Wrong. Next, they couldn?t re-install the shower door. They said a piece was missing. When I got the invoice, though, they still charged me $200 of the $295 quote for installing the shower door which they didn?t do! When I called to question the charge, they claimed they attempted to re-install it and that it would cost me $200 for their (failed) attempt. In reality, all they did was screw the two metal rails into existing holes and lay the top metal part on (that took 15 minutes max) and then give up. When I complained about this they put up another fit but eventually took the $200 off. I finally sent them an email saying I was not satisfied with their job and wanted to give them an opportunity to make the job right before I placed my review on Angie?s List. This didn?t go over too well with them. They became even more defensive, claiming they had done nothing wrong (oh, did I mention they missed a piece of tile at the bottom of the shower pan which they had to send someone over to re-caulk ? poorly, I might add), and in my last conversation with Bruce, he yelled at me saying he would be ?happy to come over and color seal it again ? but it won?t help and you won?t be happy ? but I?ll do it if that?s what you want!? O.K., now this is a perfect example of why it?s so frustrating to communicate with Bruce. First, it?s clear he wouldn?t be happy to do this. And second, he?s telling me it won?t help and that I won?t be happy, so what?s the point? It?s clear he just wanted to be able to say, ?We bent over backwards to make this customer happy, and I?m happy to go back and do what he wants?..? Do you see how infuriatingly frustrating this is? Every problem or complaint I had went this way. Lastly ? as a parting shot at me, when I called to pay the bill, I asked Melanie (the office worker) specifically what the total was ? even put her on speaker phone so my wife could hear ? and she clearly told me the total was $1,776. I then confirmed the total again before I gave her my credit card, and then I expected to pay that amount ? wouldn?t you? Nope, misrepresented again. When the receipt came back, they had charged me $1,829.20! When I complained, I was told in that I was paying a credit card charge of 3%. First of all ? when I paid the first invoice by credit card, I wasn?t charged 3%, and when Melanie told me the total ($1,776 clearly stated to me) she DID NOT mention this service charge at all! I find that sneaky and passive aggressive. If you?re looking for tile or grout work, my advice is to keep looking?

The provider was very professional , quick and thorough. The project was quickly identified and the area was clean after completion.

The technicians (Shay, Cris and Jim) were very courteous and professional. Each introduced themselves upon arrival. They were open to any questions and provided explanations as the work progressed. The company graciously accepted the coupons I had and also provided a discount for large jobs. They arrived on time and the estimate of job duration was spot on. Everyone from the 'job estimator', office staff and technicians were customer oriented and provided excellent service. Information regarding the extent of the job was precise and clear. All questions were answered to satisfaction. Reminders of the date of service and time of arrival were appreciated.

They did a great job. Greg and Chris showed up on time, reviewed the work and got started. When the first bathroom floor was done, I was not satisfied with the color of the grout color sealant. They stopped the job and helped me pick out a better color choice, Shay brought them over and I am very happy with the final result. They handled the situation in a kind, calm and helpful manner, clearly very concerned that I would be a satisfied customer when all was said and done. The job was done carefully, neatly and hopefully will stand the test of time. I will definitely recommend The Grout Medic to my friends and have them request Chris, Shay or Greg.

He showed me where the grout was really thin and can eventually leak. He gave me prices to clean but I ended up spending more. The tech, Lee, that came out was awesome! It looks like my bathroom is brand new! He explained things to me and very helpful. I also have an 8 year warranty. They gave me a detailed work order.

Based upon his performance on an earlier job, we asked for Grout Medic technician Jim. He arrived on-time, went to work and once again quietly and quickly got the job done.

The job lasted four days. Jim, the Grout Medic installer, consistently arrived on-time and clearly explained what he was going to do and what we could expect. He showed us how the underlayment had been incorrectly installed when the house was built (no thinset applied to the sub-floor before the underlayment was screwed down) and then he proceeded to use the proper materials and techniques to correctly install the new tile floor, He worked quickly, quietly and efficiently, took a minimal lunch break and was thoroughly professional and personable during the entire process.

Wow! Terrific company to deal with. Each call and/or email was answered promptly. The areas were estimated and within a few days, the work commenced. Each day the worker(s) called to say they were on their way. They arrived on time and worked steadily and hard the entire time they were here. All were professional and friendly. Overall they cleaned up all the spaces upon completion as well as answered our questions along the way. We would certainly recommend them to anyone who wants the same services done. It is hard to find workers who respond as these do.

The finished product is beautiful! The job was well done and we are very happy with the results.

Bruce showed up on time for estimate. Clear details and explanation of warranty. We accepted the bid, and scheduled date within 1 week. The technician Jason called in advance to confirm arrival time. Explained the process (removing grout, regrouting, caulking). Answered any/all questions. Job was done within 6 hrs. Shower stall looks excellent.

Lee Williams was excelllent. This is the 2nd time we have used them in 3 years....just solid reliable work. Was neat and clean; explained all work and purpose. Will use them in the future for all of our tile and ceramic maintenace work.

Lee showed up on time,assessed each area that he would be working on,told me the plan then executed it.He had a second employee join him 1/2 way thru 1st day (he was here a day and a half).Exactly as how the sales man presented it.They were professional.End of 1st day,Lee said to look at current completed work,if I saw any flaws he would correct on day 2.We walked thru each completed job on day 2,I was pleased ,only a few minor flaws he corrected.Completely happy with service.

Lee Williams was the technician assigned to us. He arrived on time and completed the job in a timely manner. The work done met my and my husband's satisfaction and expectations.
