Timetable provided at beginning of construction was followed with exceptional attention provided to detail. The work exceeded my expectations.

From the outset and throughout out the project Larry was open and honest, knowledgeable and a great problem solver. When he did not have an immediate answer, he found the right individual who could help. Larry is an excellent communicator. He is also a good negotiator with the subs, keeping the owners interest his priority. He scheduled the project well, coordinating all the work to minimize down time. He ran a clean and safe project, minimizing impact to the neighbors. He provided great advice to me with regards to the many issues that had to be more fully defined or in resolving the surprises uncovered in such an extensive remodel/addition. Larry was always even tempered, patient and driven to get the job done and done correctly. All the work was installed very professionally, passed all permit inspections and to date there have been no warranty call backs. Larry went so far as to actually install a number of interior trim alternatives to allow us to make the final choice by looking at the end result. He is a very talented carpenter. The end product is a quality project that we are very pleased with. I highly recommend Harkness Builders for any home remodeling, addition and new construction. I would certainly use his services again when the opportunity might arise. He made our construction project enjoyable for both my wife and me.

They were good enough for me to use them again. I got a quote from them to do remodel a bathroom in fall. They are going to do everything except installation of the cabinets as I would use the same cabinet supplier that I used before. They always come and take care of things that need replacing. Larry is a former art major and so everything he does has an artistic hand to it. He is very particular. He did my kitchen. He laid a lot of the tiles himself and then he did a design in my tiles. He is very particular. He actually does more than he needs to and I don't have a problem with that. We have a big courtyard and he did that. He put sand in the walk area space so that there is no mold or rot that might occur. He put drains on the terrace and all kinds of stuff. He is just very particular. He considers the job directly related to him. He doesn't do anything that won't seem right because that is a reflection of him. We will use him again as we had no problems with him before. I think he is fair and he is very particular. He was here on time and finished his jobs on time as much as possible. If I wanted something done at a particular time he would do it. He worked with my cabinet guy so I didn't have any problem with them. We get along okay. Sometimes it helps when you have someone around your house for about 4-6 months and you have to get along with the person. I think you should have a sense of humor and go with the flow. I am getting ready to work with him again. His price is little on the higher end because of his attention to detail but what I am asking for is upscale things. The kind of things that I want like the tile, cabinet, fixtures etc are upscale. He knows what I want as he has worked with me before. It might be considered pricey for some but not for me because what I am going after is kind of pricey. I feel I get what I pay for. He is lower than other people I have priced for the same thing. The quality of his work is excellent. It is just very good. He gets back to me really quickly and he follows up on any concerns I have. He is very professional.

They were professional and their follow through with the quote was timely. I would consider using them in the future if necessary.

We were very satisfied. We were having company so we needed it to be finished. This company altered their schedule because some of the fixtures were back ordered. When they did come in, they called and they came and finished it.

Larry advised me that this project was not a good fit for his company. He advised me to find a handyman. Larry's first question over the phone when I called to schedule the appointment was, "What is the scope of the project?" I told Larry that the bathrooms needed a complete update. I felt that Larry would not perform the work because I do not live in a subdivision, and I am not installing granite tops, marble floors, porcelain tub and shower, cherry-wood bath cabinets. etc. I live on a nice street; however, the house is small. If I used fine materials, I would price myself out of my neighborhood's market, and I would not recoup the money upon selling the house. I have made several updates/improvements and have scheduled a new roof to be installed in a couple of weeks and new floors to be installed in late January 2008. The bathrooms need to be updated, and I want to use the best company that I can find to do it.

Harkness were liked by us from day one. They gave us a good evaluation for the job and I highly would recommend them. They did a very good job installing the porch. It looks beautiful and it was worth every days work put into it. I could not be any more pleased. I am quite satisfied and would definitely call this company again for anything in the future. I am not sure of a total price, but, it was quite a few thousand dollars. Probably over $75,000.

Larry, the owner is a wonderful guy. He has two employees and uses almost no subcontractors. We trust him completely. We went on vacation and left him the key to continue working while we were gone. Our bathroom is just beautiful. There has been no problem with anything at all. They were so nice to us. We really got to know them, we saw pictures of their children and they are like friends now. We knew that he did good work because we saw other renovations that he had done for friends and they were just beautiful rooms as well.
