+ 5 moreFor the large size & scope of this project, things went very well, overall. There were some issues that had to be resolved, but we managed to work through those. EFC provided a time line upfront and we were able to hold them to that by not making substantial changes once the demolition/rebuilding started. Deborah and Geoff are honest people that want to do their best. The job superintendent was diligent and stayed on top of the subs so things moved along without periods of no activity. EFC provided detail on construction costs-to-date.
Description of Work: Complete home renovation; took interior down to studs, moved walls, rewired electrical, new plumbing, new HVAC system, added additional floor space, replaced all windows, changed roof-line and reroofed. Changed exterior elevation.

+ -1 moreDefective repairs. The cabinet subcontractor did not adequately repair the damage. Billing problems and cost overruns. EFC failed to provide acceptable explanations to our repeated requests about certain charges that far exceeded what they bid and what we were promised. Invoices included hourly charges that exceeded the time worked. Failed to complete the job. After having paid EFC almost $45,000 they stopped working and used as their excuse that invoices for approximately $2,500 remained unpaid, even though they walked off the job before the amounts were due and they failed to provide an acceptable response to our repeated requests for explanations. Our offers to deposit the disputed amounts into escrow so that EFC would return to complete the job were rejected. We reported our problems to the BBB. EFC ignored the BBB offers to arbitrate this matter. The BBB now shows that EFC has failed to resolve complaint issues through the BBB voluntary and self-regulatory process.
Description of Work: We hired EFC to custom remodel our 700 sq.ft. attic in Sept 2005. The project was supposed to be completed between Jan. 26, 2006, and March 26, 2006, but was never completed by EFC. EFC stopped working on the job in Apr 2006 and has neither repaired damaged work nor completed the job. Part of the job included building and installing custom stain grade wood cabinets. The cabinets were ruined by unskilled subcontractors hired by EFC. Our problems with EFC and their subcontractors included: Defective staining. Just about every imaginable problem including bubbles in the polyurethane, significant dust and other foreign objects trapped in the polyurethane, visible runs in the polyurethane, rough finish and feel to the polyurethane, visible and uneven brush marks in the stain, visible drip marks in the stain, and visible runs in the stain. Damaged cabinets. Stain subcontractor attempted to repair the problems and caused more damage by over-sanding and removing the natural wood grain.
