Mr Hensley came out on Monday June the 4th and gave an estimate for 7 white pines and one dead tree. I was so pleased with the esitmate, I asked for additional work to be done. The crew came out on Friday June the 8th and started cutting down. Od course it took several days to do the job. They kept the debris cleaned up from the yard everyday. When they finished the job on Sunday I was so pleased I asked for another estimate for some shrub and vines to be cleaned out. They start on Friday the 15th of june.

They did an excellent job! There was very little impact to the yard and the clean-up was excellent. I would certainly use them again. My only complaint is that Mr. Hensley quoted the job to me from an onsite visit with no one present, and then refused to give me the Senior Discount he lists on his Angies List page that would apply as I am over 65. He stated that he quoted the job as "tight" as he could, which I understand. However, don't offer a discount if you don't plan to give it!!
Description of Work: Hensley cut down a very large dead tree close to our house, ground out the stump, and removed all of the debris.

I hired Hensley Tree Service in June 2011 to cut down and remove a large tree and found their dealings with me unprofessional, unreliable and dishonest. I am currently using the Union County Court System in NC to recoup monies the court ruled are owed me as a result. Three men performed the work on June 8 and 9 causing a large portion of the trunk to fall on my underground sprinkler system causing water to seep out the ground. At their request, I turned off the water at the well head and the crew dug up 12 feet of parallel pipe and wire and determined both pipes had been crushed to half their diameter and one of the two pipes was completely broken and leaking at a joint. They attempted the repairs using borrowed pipe and fittings and asked me to turn the water back on. The well head is approx 90 feet from the site and so I could not see the area of the break but took their word that the leak was fixed. They filled the trench and resumed their work. That evening I turned my irrigation system on and discovered that two zones in the area of the fallen trunk didn't work.I immediately left a phone message for Ray Hensley, the owner, who called me back the same evening promising both to send his team over to dig out the trench and to send an irrigation contractor to fix the problem the next day, June 10. No-one came or called and I followed up later that day and numerous times with Ray Hensley, because of the hot weather and my dying grass. In short I called him on June 10, June 13, June 14 because no-one came to fix the problem and Mr. Hensley would only speak to me if I called him. Each time we spoke he referred to somebody else who was coming : Bill from Overstream, someone called Don, etc. Finally on June 15 Mr. Hensley called me and said that Don was coming that day. He never did and I contacted Hensley later that day. I informed him I had an irrigation contractor I'd used in the past and Hensley gave permission to get them and agreed to pay the bill. That evening I advised Mr. Hensley that my contractor had agreed to come the next day. My contractor dug up the 12 foot area and discovered the pipe was leaking at the joint that Hensley's crew had repaired; that the crushed pipes were in danger of leaking; and that Hensley's crew had cut the wire in four places. My contractor performed all the necessary repairs and I informed Hensley that day that the repairs had been completed. I tried to contact Hensley again when I received the invoice on June 23. He cut me off three times, so I mailed him a copy of the invoice and finally upon reaching him, he said he was not going to pay the bill. When I informed him I would file against his insurance he said "Go ahead, I'll see you in court". I filed a claim against his insurance company and was told my claim was legitimate but they couldn't pay because the amount was less than the deductible. I therefore filed a claim with Small Claims Court in Monroe, NC and on September 13, 2011 the Judge awarded us $426.75 for the repairs plus court fees. Hensley misled the Court, wrongly claiming that I waited several days to inform him of damage to my irrigation system; that I had my contractor dig up and replace 24 feet of pipe rather than 12 feet; that two connection boxes were improvements to the system when in fact they were installed at the contractor's recommendation to help in locating the breaks if future problems occurred. At our request the Judge removed $20 from the claim for the boxes. Lastly, Mr. Hensley provided me an estimate for tree cutting on letterhead without an address, making it difficult to determine his full contact information to serve him court papers; his men requested payment prior to finishing their job. I also found that the Better Business Bureau had and still has an alert on their website about this company.

The quote occurred quickly and it was the lowest cost of the four quotes I received. After verifying insurance, I awarded the work to Hensley's and they were on-site within 3 days. I was very pleased with their work and would hire them again.

Danny came to our door and asked us if we would like an estimate on cutting down the dead pine tree in our yard. He gave us a reasonable estimate for cutting it down and grinding the stump. We agreed later by phone when he would come back and I mentioned that we had two more trees we would like for them to cut and grind. They came back at the agreed upon time and did all the work quickly and for a very reasonable price. This is the second time we have used them and would do so again.
Description of Work: We had one tall pine tree and two smaller trees removed and stumps ground on all them. They gave us a very reasonable estimate on the work. When they arrived to do the work, they were on time and professional and did exactly as was agreed upon. We also had them cut down another dead, very tall tree a couple of years ago and had a good experience with them. I would use them again and recommend them to others. For tree removal services, be sure to discuss whether or not you want the stump(s) ground as you are requesting estimates.

I called on a weekend because they were listed on Angie's List as available 24/7. They came out the next day delivered a quote that was slightly lower than a competitor. They came two days later and did the work meticuously. I was very happy that they did everything as we discussed and cleaned up afterwards. They showed up an hour later than I was told they may arrive so they get a B on punctuality. Very friendly and competent. I would use again.

Mr. Hensley stopped by our house mid-morning looking for work during a down period. I asked for an estimate and looked the company up on Angie's List at the same time. Satisfied with both, his crew immediately went to work, spending the rest of the day doing an excellent job of trimming dead branches, opening-up the trees so that winds could go through them better and significantly improving the look of the trees. The crew was careful not to damage surrounding plants and did an excellent job of removing the waste.
Description of Work: The company trimmed and "opened-up" four large trees and cleaned up after the job was completed.

Went very well. Ray arrived at the promised appointment time, to give me a quote. After I okayed it, he had his crew there in about ten minutes to get started. They took very good care, not to damage my yard.

My next door neighbor was kind enough to give me Ray's contact info. I called him on a Friday morning and made an appointment for the following Monday. To my knowledge, he showed up as scheduled (my wife and I had already left for work). He did an absolutely amazing job on the trees. He took the trimming up much higher than I would have expected which really opened up the yard. When completed, I don't think there was even an extra leaf in the yard they cleaned up so well. Additionally, I had wanted him to clean up two crepe myrtles. He strongly recommended against doing that while they were in bloom, as the risk of killing the tree greatly increases. We agreed that he would return in January for that service. I didn't get quotes (the $500 seemed like a fair price), so I'm not rating this category. Also, I wasn't here when they were scheduled to arrive, so I'm uncomfortable rating that category either. My assumption, however, is that they arrived on time.

OVERALL, I WAS PLEASED. WHILE THEY WERE AT MY HOUSE, THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL AND CAREFUL. MY CRITICISM IS TWO-FOLD. THE INITIAL ESTIMATE DIDN'T INCLUDE A CHARGE FOR STUMP REMOVAL, AND THIS FACT WAS NOT MADE CLEAR TO US. SO WE ENDED UP WITH A LARGE STUMP IN THE FRONT YARD AND WERE TOLD THAT TO CLEAR IT AFTER THE FACT (I.E., AFTER THE ORIGINAL VISIT) WOULD COST US MORE THAN IT WOULD HAVE WERE IT BUNDLED WITH THE INITIAL WORK. ALSO, WHILE THEY WERE STILL ON SITE DOING THE INITIAL TREE WORK, I ASKED THEM ABOUT CUTTING THE LARGE STUMP IN THE FRONT YARD DOWN CLOSER TO THE GRADE (IT WAS STICKING UP ABOUT 8 INCHES) AND THEY ASSURED ME THEY WOULD DO SO BEFORE PACKING UP FOR THE DAY. WELL, THEY FORGOT, AND IT TOOK 4 ADDITIONAL PHONE CALLS AND 6 DAYS BEFORE THEY CAME BACK TO DO IT.
Description of Work: 4 TREES REMOVED, MANY OTHER TREES CLEARED OF LOW BRANCHES AND DEAD WOOD.
