DELIGHTED! During a thunderstorm last night, a couple of circuits in our house blew out. After checking for tripped circuit breakers (the extent of my 'expertise'), I searched for an electrician on the Shepherd's Guide and found Helms Electrical. Then I checked them on Angie's List, confirming their great service record. Responsiveness & Punctuality: I dialed the company at about 6:15am, realized their hours of operation are 8-5, and hung up before anyone answered. The owner dialed me back a few minutes later, listened to my description of the problem, and committed to squeeze me in prior to lunch. As it turns out, the owner called me at 7:45 and arrived at my house at 8:15. Professionalism: Mr. Helms kept me apprised of his work throughout. He showed me the damage inside the circuit breaker panel, letting me know how long the work should take (after his original assessment), and that he needed to leave to obtain a part. Based on the type of damage to our system, he suggested (but in NO way tried to 'sell') a whole-house surge/lightening protector system, explained what that system would (and would not) do, and left me plenty of time to do some research and make an informed decision (we decided TO have the device added while he was there). Quality: The work appeared well organized, and Mr. Helms cleaned as he went. I viewed the work he did in the breaker box and it was very professionally done. Price: This was NOT money I had planned to spend this week (!), but the labor cost was very reasonable, and I found the additional lightening/surge protector installed was very well priced. In summary -- I was simply DELIGHTED with Helms Electrical -- and I'll absolutely call them again for any future electrical work.

They arrived exactly on time, were efficient, quick,. fastidious and friendly - couldn't ask for more. We have used this company when we first moved here and wouldn't hesitate to use them again... a great find!!!

Overall, they responded very quickly and identified my issue right away. It took about 80 minutes from start to finish to remove something out of the panel and put it back. Essentially my panel was bad and needed to be replaced, something he couldn't do until later due to parts. I was shocked by how much he charged for the 80 minute visit involving a fairly simple diagnostic issue - $180! I should have asked about price before I hired him, I just assumed it was reasonable/market price, but this is $120 per hour! When he told me I needed a new panel, I assumed he might deduct the $120 from the price of the panel ($1200 price tag on the panel replacement). He did not. I received another quote from Providence Electric and they were $900. I gave Helms a chance to match the price but he didn't even budge an inch. The only other thing about the experience is that he rides around in a regular truck with "stuff" in the back of his truck - doesn't come across particularly professional, but was able to get the job done, which in this case was diagnostics only and a fairly simple job at that.

Helms came to our house 2 hours after we called. It was a difficult problem to diagnos due to the way the house is wired. After the second visit he was able to determine the problem and recommend ways to obtain cost savings. He was very professional, prompt and friendly.

This company and their employees are courteous, prompt and very professional. We were very impressed and would definitely use their services again. In fact, we have already recommended them to friends.

We have used their services in the past and they do really good work. They are definitely expensive but they are worth it. The quality of their work was excellent. We will definitely use them again in the future.

They were very good. The owner answered the phone when I called and he sent someone right away. I wasn't really there, but they seemed to like them very much and they would definitely hire them back if they needed. They showed up when they were supposed to and actually looked at the area. We were a little busy so they came back later and did all the repairs in one shot. They didn't have a problem with that. It was the first time we hired an electrician, so I don't really know how to grade them. The quality of service was very good.

Mike was on time, professional, he explained everything to me clearly. I was very impressed with his knowledge and service. We will definitely use them again.

They responded promptly and were very clear on what was being done and the reasons. I will likely be using them again in a few days to do some installation of child proof outlets across the house. I also received $10 off by being an Angie's list member.

They showed up on time. They did a very good job, and cleaned up once the job was done. Their pricing was competitive as well, and my overall experience with them was good.

The worked was performed very proficiently and professionally. That actually had to bring in another person to help the initial electrician. That person was only minutes away and it cut down on the overall cost of the project. One gentlemen had to go under the house and drill while the other guy directed him where to drill the whole. They had to cut a hole in the wall and fish the wire through the existing wall. Then they reattached the thermostat. It worked out great.

Helms was a good company. I have been reaping the benefits of their fine work in my home for three months now and have had no problems. Our electrical work was subcontracted out by Ryan Homes. I paid Ryan Homes, so I can not comment on what they charged. Ryan would have paid them out of what I paid to them. I liked the employees from Helms. They always showed up on time, and their work is very accurate.

I am completely happy with my new home. The work has been done for awhile now and the wiring is just fine. All of the outlets are still working and so does the lights. There is just nothing bad to say about them. My builder paid them and hired them.

We don't really have any complaints at all with them. We really only had dealings with the one boss and he was very kind and able to answer all of our questions. He did let us know that if there was ever any problems to call him right away and he would have someone sent right out to address the problem. I really can't say for sure how much the real price was but I know we did not think it was all that bad. We are very satisfied with the job they did.

Their work is not cheap but their work is impeccable.

I ALSO ASKED ABOUT A MORE PERMANENT SETUP-HE SAID HE COULD DO IT SOON AND WOULD CALL TO DISCUSS. NEXT DAY, WHEN HE WAS OUT AT MY HOUSE TO DISCONNECT THE TEMPORARY CONNECTION, I WAS INFORMED HE WOULD INSTALL PERMANENT SOLUTION THE NEXT DAY (HE HAD NOT CALLED FROM OFFICE TO DISCUSS FURTHER, I HAD NOT APPROVED) WHICH WOULD BE A FULL DAY JOB. DOES NOT SOUND LIKE SOMEONE WITH A BUSY SCHEDULE REQUIRING PRICING ''ADJUSTMENTS'' IN NEW JOBS. ALSO, ESTIMATE FOR JOB 2: $2300 VS OTHER ESTIMATES $500-600. HELMS QUOTE DID INCLUDE A SIGNIFICANTLY MORE EXPENSIVE TRANSFER SWITCH, BUT ACCORDING TO OTHER QUOTES FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO USE/NEED THAT SIZE SWITCH, I WOULD NEED A GENERATOR SEVERAL TIMES THE SIZE OF MY ALREADY POWERFUL GENERATOR. BUT EVEN MAKING AN APPROXIMATE ADJUSTMENT FOR LARGER TRANSFER SWITCH, IT APPEARED THERE WAS STILL A FAIRLY WIDE GAP BETWEEN HELMS ESTIMATE AND OTHER ESTIMATES. I KNOW I PAID TOO MUCH ON JOB 1, AND WAS NOT GOING TO PAY TOO MUCH ON JOB 2, ESPECIALLY TO SAME COMPANY.

MET WITH THIS COMPANY TO GET AN ESTIMATE, HE GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON THE SPOT. I DID NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY, BUT WOULD CONSIDER THEM IN THE FUTURE.
