Called to check on getting a tree taken down that I knew was dead because I was afraid it would fall on my fence. Another nearby tree was pointed out that was also in bad shape and close enough to damage the fence if it fell. I had both taken down. No problems at all, very pleased with this company, and would certainly use again.

On Good Friday I picked up our brand new travel trailer and pulled into our driveway to load up for our first camping trip as a family. As I negotiated a turn in my driveway I quickly realized that the trailer was too long to make the turn needed to straighten out and exit. The large natural area island in the center of the driveway would allow the turn, I thought, and as I attempted to swing around the trailer became stuck in the soft ground, The more I worked at trying to get myself out of this ticklish situation the closer the trailer slid toward a large maple tree in the island. I finally threw my ego in the trash can and was able to drive my car out of the driveway and straight toward the only company I knew of that could possibly help me in time to get to the camping area before dark. I pulled in to Southern Carolina Treeworks and explained my situation to Jim Williams, who told me that all his staff was off for the holiday but he would be glad to come out and see what he could do. He arrived within a few minutes and immediately offered several options and, as I listened to Jim, I became less nervous about the possibility of damage to our brand new camper which sat only 18 inches from the tree. Jim laid out the game plan and confidently went about his work and, with the precision of a surgeon, took down the tree and landed it exactly where he planned. As I had a saw of my own I told him I would clean up all the debris but he insisted on cutting and limbing the tree to clear the entire driveway. I can't adequately describe my relief at having the tree out of the way so that we could still make our reservation. Jim's compassion, understanding and sheer skill literally saved our vacatoin. To leave his own family on a holiday to help another family make memories is something that I'll never forget, and his response when asked what I owed him for his work was the proverbial icing on the cake. Suffice to say that Jim's desire for our family to keep our schedule outweighed the monetary value of his work. I subsequently used Southern Carolina Treeworks to have additional trees removed and am planning on using them to re-design the island natural area to increase the turning radius. Many thanks to Jim's son Michael for his efforts on suggesting designs and for his skill in removing additional trees. It's nice to know that when problems arise there are still folks around who truly care about their customers and place the building and strenthening of relationships above all else.

We had used Jim previously in 2005 and was fortunate to find him on Angie's List. The work he performed in 2005 was primarily limb removal/pruning but I recall how little deadwood or limbs came down for quite some time after. That past experience and the recommendations of what to keep and what to remove sealed the deal for us. Mike and crew arrived on day 1 and were joined by Jim on days 2 and 3. There was a cluster of 5 very large trees near the home that came down first and required a great deal of precision to safely remove. The job took a total of 3 days and required the use of heavy equipment. For the amount of work that was needed and the equipment used, the yard was left in pretty good shape. With the removal of the trees and shrubs, we will now be able to increase the size of our lawn while maintaining shade, privacy and curb appeal with the trees that remain. I would definitely use their company again as they were very efficient, had good equipment, and were interested in making sure we were satisfied throughout the project.
Description of Work: Cut down and remove approximately 30 trees, including approximately 10 very large pines Cut down and remove multiple overgrown shrubs Limb up/prune approximately 5 cedars Grind stumps and root systems

I have used Carolina Outdoor Services for several years. I call them almost annually since I live on a densely wooded lot and it seems at least one tree needs to come out every year. They have all the proper equipment (cherry picker etc) and experience to do the job right without scaring me to death that the tree might hit some important structure (like the house). Jim Williams started the company and is semi-retired although he has been here every time I've called them. His son, Michael, I think is now the owner. For the amount of work they do and the care they take I think their price is fair. I have been approached by guys in the neighborhood who want to do tree work for less but I have seen some of the work those folks do and would rather pay a bit more and have peace of mind. I have also had them come grind stumps for the reasonable rate of 8-10 for $100. I will continue to call the Williams's Carolina Outdoor Services for my tree work.
Description of Work: Cut down very large old Oak tree, moderate sized Maple and 6-10 small (6-8 inch diameter) trees Cut felled trees for firewood and stacked logs on wood pile (which was a distance from where the trees fell)
