Amazing. After several no call no shows with other pool people, I found Marks name recommended on a local FB page. I left a message for him and he called me back the next business day (which is amazing). He had his measuring guy out here the same week and Mark came by to double check the measurements and give me my price. He gave me a estimated time frame for my liner to be ordered and received and when he could get me on the schedule. I was surprised when he ended up beating his completion date by 2 weeks! His team was professional, clean and on time. They did an amazing job and my 30+ year in ground pool looks brand new again! Mark always responded to my texts or calls in a timely manner and was a straight shooter through and through! He was so personable and easy to deal with, it was like having a conversation with an old friend. He has restored my faith in pool contractors. When my husband and I sell this place and build our forever home, Mark will be the only person i call when it comes to designing our new pool oasis. If you want a fair price and a reliable contractor to give you a beautiful pool- call Mark at Gator.

There were some challenges installing the heat pump in my existing pool. Mark did a great job fitting it into a space constrained location. I was on a tight deadline and Mark worked me in even though it was a very busy time for him. I will use Gator for all my pool renovations in the future.

BUYER BEWARE. Obviously unless you're spending thousands of dollars with him he is not interested in doing any work for you. And if you can't do the little jobs you're not going to be my big jobs.
Description of Work: Mark came out two weeks ago to give me a price on repairing my pond filter. After explaining exactly what we wanted done Mark showed up totally unprepared to do any work whatsoever on this pond. He said that he would get back with us and give us an estimate for the work. We knew he was busy putting in an inground pool but we also thought that he would get back to us with an estimate knowing we were leaving on vacation and need to get this work completed the soonest possible. After three phone calls with him he then informed me that he was not interested in doing the work after wasting my time and my husband when I gave him two more days to get an estimate out to me

Response from Gator Pools & Spa
If your comments were to make me look unprofessional, you only succeeded in showing your own ignorance. Absolutely no pool professional could have known what parts or anything else to show up with when all you have is a "Homemade" water fountain, with only a return and a suction line. Nothing that meets pool code. It's just a water feature, nothing else. I was there only One week ago. I informed your husband that I was extremely busy and I would need to do some checking to determine what would be the best course of action to take care of the problems that the water feature has. You were obviously to impatient to have a professional to take the time to access the issues and make the decision that was best for your "Homemade Fountain". As for your claim that I only do "Big" jobs. In the last two weeks, I unstopped a clogged pump impeller, changed out a start run capacitor on another pool pump. Both of which jobs were less than $100.00 each! We here at Gator Pool do our best to treat every customer with respect, we do not appreciate personally attacking comments such as yours. Good luck in finding anyone else to help.

I hired a contractor to install a pool. When the liner was installed it was too big for the pool and was told the manufacturer messed up and a new one was on order. There was also problems with filter making loud noises and the plumbing leaking.Through some research I found that a new liner was never on order and when confronted the contractor refused to correct his mistakes. I was recommended to GATOR POOL and SPA's. Mark came looked at what need to be repaired , worked with the manufacturer to make sure the correct liner ordered. Redid the plumbing and correct the issue with the salt cell. I will definitely recommend Gator Pools to my friends and family.

I called Mark Saturday morning frantically explaining my situation as we were going out of town the next day! Another service had come out 3 days prior claiming they repaired my filter......they left me with tons of sand on the bottom of the pool, and sand still coming in through the returns. The Polaris was affected as well. Mark came out first thing Monday morning and took care of everything! He replaced the filter, cleaned the pool and got the Polaris up and running! He kept in touch with me by phone explaining what was going on. We got home today and everything is running smoothly and the pool looks perfect, thanks to Mark! I strongly recommend Mark Barbee and Gator Pools!

Mark came very promptly, gave a detailed description of what work he would do, and a maximum time frame. All was measured with in 36 hours of our deposit. The material ordered and over 10 days before promised, work began His crew was courteous, cleaned up everything and left no trace of being there, other than a beautiful new pool liner Mark came by daily as it was being filled to check on it, make adjustments and took care of all sorts of minor issues, and went above and beyond He is a true professional. Polite, respectful, and proud of his work, as well he should be We had other calls out, with contractors, who couldn't bother to return calls or show up when appointments. Mark one of the people in the service industry of which to set the bar by. I would not hesitate recommending him to anyone in need of his service

And what he needs to do to resolve the problem. The breaker was more than he anticipated, showed me the receipt so I wouldn't have any questions or doubts. I would highly recommend Gator Pool and Spa. Thank you Mark for being honest and providing quality work.
Description of Work: Faulty circuit breaker I contacted Mark on Monday because my pool pump/filter was not working. Mark said he would be out that day or the next to look at it. I told him the next day would be fine. Mark came, checked out the pump/filter and determined it was a defective circuit breaker. He contacted the electrician to find out if it was normal for the breaker to fail so soon and it was informed that it is was possible. Mark went to Lowe's to obtain the breaker but they didn't have the one he needed. He contacted me, indicated that he would have to go to another provider and would be out the next day. He came today and replaced the breaker. If I could give a service provider an A+ I would definitely do it. Mark is honest and upfront. He explains what's going on.

I contacted provider after seeing an ad in the Angie's List magazine. Provider returned my call within 1-2 days and I provided a description of what we were looking for over the phone (estimate for re-tiling and re-plastering 30yr old gunite pool). He said that he would be able to come out sometime by the end of the week. He was unable to provide an exact appointment time. I did not hear from him that week, but he contacted me on the morning of Feb 26th and said he was in the area and asked if he could stop by. I said that was fine. Two guys came by and took a look at the pool and pump and said they would get back to me with an estimate. I received a call early the following week that he wanted to have someone else come out and see the pool to provide an estimate given that we needed some bond beam repair prior to re-plastering. I received a call from a pool resurfacing company and made an appointment for Mar 6th. The guy came out on the 6th and showed me some samples and we discussed the plaster options and he explained that there were really only 2 plaster companies in the Charlotte area and they did the work for all of the pool service / repair / building companies. He said that he would provide an estimate directly to me for the re-plastering. I provided my phone number and e-mail and have not received any additional contact from either company regarding an estimate for the work. I left a message with the main number and did not receive a call back. I mentioned this to my neighbor, who said he had a similar experience when they came out to do an estimate on a new pool build for them last summer. Unfortunately this seems to be a trend in the pool renovation industry, as I have had poor responses from a number of companies. This is unfortunate because pools require a good bit of renovation and on-going maintenance. ****Response to Company **** I completely respect the right of a company to not bid on a project, for whatever reason. However, a customer centric company should at least inform the customer that they are not interested in bidding on the project. We finally received a call from the company after we posted the negative review, but have already moved on with another company, and don't feel any additional conversation is warranted at this point. It is poor customer service and does form a negative opinion when the last conversation from a provider is that they will get back to you within a few days and then the customer never hears from them again. On the contrary, if a company informs the customer that the job is not appropriate for their company, or they don't have time, or whatever reason, a customer can generally respect that and may reach out to the company again in the future either for the same type of work, or other work the company provides, or may recommend the company to a friend / neighbor because although the job didn't work out, the company's responsiveness and customer service was good. You are correct - we are looking for a band-aid because there are other issues with the house that are more pressing than re-plastering the pool, and have found other companies willing to discuss and work with us to figure out the appropriate band-aid given the amount we are able to invest in improving the current state of the pool.

Response from Gator Pools & Spa
Gator Pool did come out to bid a re-tile and re-plaster job for this person. I noted that the pools bond beam- this is the top portion of the pool, was severely cracked and had noticeable separation in several areas. The pool had also been painted which would have to be re-moved before any plaster work could be done. I contacted my plaster expert so he could access the damage and give me some idea of what all would be involved to make the necessary repairs. The home owner stated that they were probably going to sell the house in a few years and didn't want to put a lot into it. Gator Pool doesn't do band aid fixes. When my plaster expert informed me of this, I decided not to bid on the project. That's my right as a contractor. When I know it's a can of worms, I can choose not to open it. The home owner wanted a patch up job. Gator Pool does quality work only. I know for sure that I made the right decision. As a consumer I would value the opinion of someone I actually did work for, not someone who saw me for less than 20 minutes and formed a negative opinion.

Really not sure why this person is even posting on Angie's List. We have looked at our records and we have nothing on email or anything on our phone messages that we even talked to this person. If we had, wouldn't telling someone that we only did in-ground pools be enough information for you. If we don't know anyone in your area who does this, then how could we suggest someone. Just don't understand why people want to give you a grade over a conversation anyway. We apparently didn't do any work for this person, so how can you grade a B? This sounds like a person you wouldn't want to work for anyway! Thanks to all our customers who are happy with Gator Pool & Spa!

I posted a low rating previously because Gator never got back to us with a quote for repairs. But they did get back to us once they saw we weren't happy about not hearing from them. The definitely made it "right." Gator Pool came out within a few days of our telephone conversation and had a written estimate for us within 8 days which was totally reasonable because there was the Thanksgiving holiday in the middle of it. The estimate is reasonable and they talked with my husband about the best way to proceed with repairs. We now have to decide who we are going to use from the 3 estimates we have. After a bit of confusion initially, we would feel confident in hiring Gator Pools to make our in-ground swimming pool look new again. Good, knowledgeable guys.

Here we are again where someone can post on Angie's List when we didn't do the work. As again my instincts prove me right. I always think, wow - how funny that someone that I didn't do the work for gives me a bad report. Really? How do you judge Price, Quality, Responsiveness when no work was performed? The person here with the report and her husband live in a golf course community. They wanted us to do a patch work job. I don't do patch work jobs. I had my employee to let them know that if we were going to bid the job we would be doing much more work than they were willing to pay for. Instead of calling us back to ask about the job, I assumed they went with a cheaper bid and moved on. She really can't give any grade because we didn't choose to work for her.

Mark gave us a very good estimate that came in on the dot, assisted us in choosing liner and pavers, brought lots of samples by the house so we could decide, then installed new steps for our pool, new drain in the bottom, put in two hydrostatic valves where we had one, raised our overflow valve, put in appropriate jets and plumbing in the shallow end that were not appropriate from time of building the pool, put on a new diving board for us, installed new ladder in deep end, installed new skimmer because mine had a two foot crack in it, made a stone top to match my pavers to lift for the skimmer basket, removed old liner, removed old coping around pool, put in metal levelers around pool because my pool was not level at the top, put mesh on top of that to make sure the bullnosing would have something to attach itself to, put foam on the walls of the pool, troweled down new bottom of pool with vermiculite, kept my existing light in the pool, meticulously placed bullnosing around edge of pool and placed screening then pavers down around pool in large area and walkways, paying close attention to correct runoff for water, cutting the pavers in lots of exact pieces to fit, jackhammered up concrete where the pavers couldn't be placed directly on top of the existing concrete like at the gate, and did everything with a smile and great attitude.
Description of Work: Mark, the owner of Gator Pools, is extremely knowledgable about pool repair, pool construction, and can handle anything around your pool too. We just had he and his crew totally redo our pool and deck from the floor of the pool up. Mark and his crew are very professional, respectful of people and property, and very talented. Mark made several improvements to our pool which should have been done when the pool was built. He helped us design the pool and decking and we are thrilled with the outcome. They were on time, worked throughout the day except a lunch break, loved my dog, and did an excellent job on the pool and changing my deck of stamped concrete to pavers. All the details were noted and attended to. I have also used Mark for pool repairs, and he contacts you in a very timely manner, and comes out quickly. He stands behind his work. Well, I was digging near my pool return lines and managed to hit one and put a crack in it. The problem of repairing it was compounded by surrounding tree roots and a concrete slab that was in the way. Mark took care of it all, replaced the cracked section of pipe, left me in better shape to manage encroaching roots in the future. What a relief to have the job done so well. Thank you, Mark.

He was supposed to come at a certain time on a Saturday. He called me and said he was running late and will be at my house as soon as possible. He said the appointment ran over with his last customer and I appreciated the fact that he called to let me know what was happening. He was very very nice to me over the phone. He came driving up in an old work truck and tried to parked it in my driveway. I had people come out previously to do service work around my new home and oil from a truck was spilled all over my new driveway. This is why my husband stopped him from parking in that area and asked him to park his truck in front of the house. Apparently, he picked up some kind of attitude because of this. My husband and I, I believe, were treated unfairly because we are an interracial couple. His whole demeanor and attitude was poor.

In response to the report made on Feb.2,2012 to a customer looking for a new pool.My grandaddy told me years ago "If you look for trouble-you'll find it"When the customers husband stood at the top of the driveway smoking his cigar and shaking his head no and waving me out I knew then that my equipment, dump truck, crane and concrete truck would not be welcomed either. They could of politely said on the phone while making the appointment to please park on the street or could of been met at the end of the driveway if they were scared of any oil leaks. We would of been glad to park there.I did call the customer because my first appointment ran long.By the way,I did sell that job.She was fine with me being about forty minutes later than planed. My truck is not some"old" klunker either. It is a well maintained 2006 Ford 250 Power Stroke and has never leaked oil.If it did,I would never park it in a customers driveway.Building pools require access to the property. The driveway at these customers house is the only way to the back yard.I chose not to bid on their job based on their attitude.I know now that I did the Right thing.Gator Pool takes pride in their work and we make a lot of people happy.Gator Pool will do work for male, female or any color of race. These customers should grade on work that was actually done for them.As you can read other reports-Gator Pool has a A grade for jobs done!

High "props" for Gater Pools & Spas. The pump on my system was failing and I ordered another. I called Mark (after being referred by Carolina Pools & Spas) at 9 AM and he showed up a little after 10! He replaced the pump, gave me some advice on maintaining my pool and is estimating refurbishing the pool. This is an outstanding company to do business with and Mark does beautiful work. Thanks!
Description of Work: Pool pump was failing fast. I called Gater Pools & Spas and talked with Mark about replacing the pump which I had ordered on line. Mark and his assistant, Jimmy, replaced the pump and got the system up and running in under an hour. Work was done carefully and I appreciated the compression fittings which will make future repairs easy.

Mark and his crew did an excellent job installing the pool. He is very conscientious and takes pride in the work that is performed. He has great interaction with his sub-contractors and his crew. The pouring of the concrete was delayed a few days because of the weather. Mark wanted to make sure there wouldn't be problems later on so we decided it would be worth the wait. It didn't stop of us from using the pool. He did a great job of cleaning up the area when he was finished and also had several good suggestions as to where the pool should be installed and the pouring of the concrete. I would highly recommend Gator Pool and Spa if you are considering a pool, you won't have any regrets about the job or the contractor. Mark is not only the owner of Gator Pool and Spa's but rolls up his sleeves and does a lot of the work, he is much more than just the sales person.

Our pool is an in ground pool. My husband put a fence post in popped it straight into the pool. He came out in 20 minutes and pool was fixed the next day. He had to dig down to 3 feet make a large hole and replace the pipe. The pool company had to determine whether it was the main line or the return line or one of the other lines. So he had to close off certain things in the pool and it took him some time to figure out which one was broken. The pool had water and it kept coming up. I would this company in the future.

I called Gator Pools and they agreed to come out and look at our pump that day. They showed up exactly when they said they would and were very professional. They were able to give me an estimate on all the items I needed as well as make suggestions on how to keep a certain problem from occuring again. I would definitely use them again in the future!
