We had the carpet in the bedrooms pulled up and hardwoods installed prior to moving into the Covington Oaks Dr. home. Everything seemed to go well minus a few communication gaps. No big deal. The floors had the beautiful texture and the matte finish we were looking for. The only issue was many short little pieces. Unfortunately the honeymoon did not last. After about 5 months we noticed that the floors in two bedrooms looked wavy. One of the bedroom doors would not open fully due to boards being raised so high. We later learned about cupping due to moisture issues and we have some severely raised boards. We had a NHWA inspector in the house today. The cupping is happening because the concrete was not moisture tested and not treated to prevent the moisture from the ground/slab seeping into the wood. It could have been prevented. There is no way to sand it down. The floors must removed, proper seal applied to the concrete, and new wood installed. The inspector is also questioning/looking into the grade of wood used because it does not appear to be what was requested and agreed upon. Now that we have moved in, we will be living through the process and must move furniture out to have the floors ripped out and new installed. Disappointed. The house was cleared of all furniture for initial installation because we had not moved in yet. Now we will need to store furniture in order to clear space for the floors to be ripped out and reinstalled. That means a POD or movers. S. Storage unit. All a hassle. All an expense.
Description of Work: Remove carpet from three bedrooms and install white oak hardwood floors over slab. Not certain we received the proper grade wood.

Price was similar to other contractors but not the cheapest. The new floors had to match the rest of the floors that were 5 years old. Job was well done and fairly quickly, overall I am happy with the results.
Description of Work: Sand and finish wood floor, 3 rooms.

Valentin is really one of the most professional people I've ever dealt with. I am pretty handy around the house and as an unfortunate consequence - am very hesitant to bring people in to do work for me. But hardwoods are best left to the pros. Heard about Valentin from a friend (sorry Angie!) and have had him in twice - very little carpet remains! I won't list the superlatives - this guy is great! Wouldn't hesitate to hand him the keys to the house and head to the beach while he works!
Description of Work: Removed carpet and installed solid oak hardwood floors.

the price was 4000 for the first job. I called him back later date to do another job for which he only charged 600. After second job completed, I decided to pay him more than 600, because I thought he undercharged. Of all the renovations I've had done to my house, Valentin's work is the only work with which I am completely happy. My floors were absolutely stunning when he was done. Without fail, it is the first thing people comment on when they walk into my house. I have a decent-sized 1930s house with dark wood floors originally. Definitely had some damaged wood in certain areas. He refinished almost entire house, including stairs, 4 bedrooms (1 very large with a lot of water- damaged wood), very large living room, library, dining room, large foyer, long hallway, stairs, and 1 bathroom. Even the details such as installing the shoe molding were perfect...it was sealed perfectly along perimeters of rooms. He suggested a natural stain, which he insisted would still have a lot of color...I was so worried it was going to be too light, but he knew what he was talking about ...the stain on the old wood made for a beautiful warm honey color with all kinds of variatons in depth of color. Gorgeous! There were huge dark stains in a lot of areas...he was able to remove most stains almost completely, but there were a few areas where it wouldn't completely come out....well, inthe end, it did not matter!!! it was just enough to add "character" to the old floor without looking like a big stain. I called him back a few months later to get a quote on refinishing wood in small bathroom, and removing several layers of ancient linoleum, adhesive, and God knows what else on kitchen floor, then refinishing wood underneath. His quote was 600 to do both kitchen AND bathroom. My bathroom floor is tiny, and my kitchen floor isn't huge...maybe 5x9ish at most, but I thought that was a great price...too cheap really. The other guys working in my house at the time didn't want to do the work of removing linoleum...were trying to tell me to just stick some more linoleum on top of what was aleady there, that the wood underneath would be no good, that I would never find anyone willing to remove the linoleum layers, and so on.They also wanted to charge 700 to stick a few tiles (did not include price of tile)on top of wood floor in my very tiny bathroom. Well, Valentin came in and had linoleum off within 1-2 hours. The floors underneath were sanded, buffed, stained to match rest of house. then polyurethaned...he also replaced some of wood in bathroom, then refinished those floors as well. End result....BEAUTIFUL!!!! I know times were hard for those in home renovation business at that time, so I'm sure he was just making sure he got the job with his low quote. Well, he did get the job,,,and how great for me that he did! I paid him more than he requested in the end because I thought he undercharged for all his hard work. I plan to call him back soon to tackle my sunroom floor. Valentin is a very professional, kind, humble man who clearly takes great pride in his work. How very refreshing!!!! It's been 2 years, so I no longer recall how long he was there...maybe a week? I just know he showed up everyday and worked all day until job was done. His workers he had with him on first job were very kind and professional as well I wrote a report on Angie's List about Valentin a while back, but I received a request for more info, so writing another longer report. I really hope this man gets the business he deserves.
Description of Work: He sanded, buffed, stained, and polyurethaned (either 2 or 3 coats...can't recall) all floors, provided shoe molding, which he stained to match and installed. He also refinished all old curved molding around steps in various areas...at least 4 or 5. He replace all damaged wood with new wood, and actually made it blend in by moving planks around so there wasnt a big block of new wood. He removed at least 2 layers of very old linoleum and adhesives from wood floors in one room and beautifully restored that wood as well. Dates of 1st job perfomance: approximatly JUNE (possibly JUly) 2008, roughly one week to complete job. I don't recall exact date, but definitely JUNE OR JULY 2008. Second job was roughly September or October of 2008.

Valentin had been recommended to us by a friend who had also used him. We had an excellent experience and will recommend him to others..
Description of Work: We had Valentin install hardwood floors in our upstairs to match the wood floors in the rest of the house. This involved removing carpet from the 4 bedrooms, hallway and back stairs and adding wood flooring.

He did a beautiful job everywhere. He's very professional. I have nothing but good things to say about him and the guys working with him.
Description of Work: He refinished the floors in my entire house. He did a lot of repair on damaged wood on the floor. He completely sanded and re-stained. In my kitchen there was a lot of linoleum layers and he was able to get that up and salvage the wood underneath.
