Description of Work: We started out with a kitchen renovation, then decided to also renovate the bathrooms and outdoor deck.

Description of Work: We needed a new master bath. The old MB and deck were demolished and a new bathroom was built along with a closet addition. Kevin Carpenter designed the new addition. He, as well as, the other members of the group are architects and they all were active in the construction. When we started, all we knew was we wanted a larger master bath. Kevin helped us identify what we liked and wanted for this new addition. He listened to what was important to us and his design was perfect and the final room is breathtaking. He also accompanied us to look for tile , granite and cabinets to lend his expertise. When it came time for construction, Kevin and his partners were the ones who did the framing and most of the construction. They have great subs for tile work, electric, plumbing, etc. They are perfectionists in their work and want everything precise. Their goal is to make the customer happy with the results. We wouldn't hire anyone else to do future work.

Description of Work: Trace and remediation of roof leak and water damage.

Description of Work: My wife suffers from dementia and uses a walker to avoid falling. Our water closet doorway is only 24" wide which is sometimes an issue for us. Simply replacing the door with a larger model will not work.

Description of Work: We spoke at length with the provider about a house we were thinking of buying that needed extensive repair. After considering the job type and scope, the provider recommended that it may not be the best fit for their firm, but was very generous in providing recommendations for other vendors that could help us.

Description of Work: My wife and I were looking for alternatives to outright moving from our neighborhood which we love, so we asked Masterbuilders to provide ideas for an addition above our garage. Not familiar with the Masterbuilder Fellowship way of doing business, i have to say i was blown away by their knowledge and professionalism. These are true architect/builders and one needs to accept that one will pay a bit more for their expertise and quality - some of these other reviews complaining about higher bids seem to neglect this point. Not to mention the fact that our representative (Chris) spelled this out clearly over the phone before he even came to check out our house. Anyway, Chris came by and gave us some great feedback which helped us make our final decision.

Description of Work: I was thinking of buying an older home which had been vacant for some time. Before purchasing the house I wanted someone to take a look at it and give me a general idea of how much it would cost to get it back in habitable shape. Sean Murray and the Masterbuilder Fellowship Crew looked at the property for me and gave me enough info to make my decision. Once the purchase was complete he went in and got all the major systems going, put in gutters, took out an unnecessary bathroom and took care of other things I needed.

I have had the pleasure of working with them on multiple occasions over the years to do a variety of repairs and renovations to my home. They are the only company I trust and recommend them unhesitatingly to other potential clients. Unfortunately, during the fall of 2012 I had to ask them to come in not for the usual, joyful home improvement project but to supervise, coordinate, oversee, diagnose and repair damage due to mold growth that I found in my house and in order to make it habitable once again. They retain a serious knowledge of potential environmental threats to the structure of a home and are able to assist clients facing such situations. I hired them based on my wonderful past experiences and the care, sensitivity and quality of work they maintain, all of which far surpass anything else I have found.

Description of Work: Masterbuilder Fellowship for the built environment assisted us with a complete renovation of our home, and a conversion of a garage like space into an office bathroom and mudroom. A large part of the project included remediation for mold and air quality issues. Due to the the many factors involved in the air quality issue, It was a very complex project involving many different aspects of our home including water drainage, crawl space science, soil science, Hvac systems, air flow patterns, landscaping, termite protection, Material selection, the reorientation of living patterns in our home to prevent future contamination, and a complete kitchen and first floor renovation.

Description of Work: We had a very nice experience with Masterbuilders. They were prompt and very professional. We were looking for proposals from different vendors for building out a 4th bedroom in the attic over the garage. Masterbuilders delivered (by hand mind you) a very nice proposal that was very thought out and took the time to explain each phase of the proposed work and the costs.

Description of Work: Master Builders designed and implemented the renovations of my master bathroom, kitchen and built-in cabinetry in the living room. When I purchased my home, I knew I wanted to complete some renovations so I contacted and setup appointments with various contractors recommended on Angie's list as well as a contractor I used in a previous renovation on a prior home. Master Builders was my first and ONLY appointment. Their experience, knowledge base and ideas were exceptional!! I should mention my boyfriend builds homes for a living and deals with various contractors; he was speechless after speaking with John Franco. I canceled my other appointments as I knew Master Builders was the perfect fit. Before a contract was even signed, they sent me a list of questions to answer, which seemed a little unorthodox, but it was their way of getting to know me. Based on my answers they designed the most beautiful master bathroom, kitchen and built-in cabinetry. It was exactly what I wanted!!! I did not make one change to their design!!! They provided me blue prints on each part of the renovation so I could visual see how it would turn out! It really was so easy and painless. It was nice to have a contactor finally listening to what I wanted and see them implement it in their design. In addition, with the designs, I received a schedule of payments and when the work would be completed. So we were off!!! So on the first day of demolition, I was expecting Master Builders to supervise or delegate, but was I surprised!! Those men, who met with me in suits and ties, were now in my house with a tool belt. MASTER BUILDERS, Richard and Kevin, were the ones doing the work!! They were at my house every day, on time, without fail!! They were always available to answer my questions and provide me with updates. If they out-sourced any function, electric work or plumbing, they hired the most knowledgeable, capable, respected men in that trade. Richard designed and BUILT my built-in cabinetry in my living room. They look as though they were always there!! I could not be more pleased on how they turned out!!! He also designed and BUILT the peninsula in the kitchen. Kevin designed and BUILT my master bathroom, which required new floor, new walls, wainscoting, trim, tiling...etc. Again, BREATHTAKING!!! I could not be more pleased!!! The renovations exceeded my expectations!!! To give you a idea of all that they completed, I decided it would be easier to list out each item: Living room: Designed and built a wall to wall, floor to ceiling unit, which houses my 55' TV with sliding doors and all my books, decorative items, DVDs..Etc. It is probably my favorite part of the renovation! Description of Work: We did get them to do an estimate in early February on a remodel on a 2 car garage addition and closing in a great room.

Description of Work: MF designed and built an historic preservation renovation with green elements on a 1935 Colonial Revival cottage in the Elizabeth neighborhood of Charlotte. They researched the standards for historic preservation (they prior related experience), made all communication with the state-level officials responsible for certifying historic preservation renovations under the US Secretary of Interior standards, and completed the necessary paperwork in its entirety for Part A approval. They also did the cost analysis for Part B submission. For the renovation, they did the entire design for the renovation and expansion of a 1600 SF cottage into a 2800 SF cottage, including exterior decks and exterior hardscapes. The also produced the entire set of construction documents, procured all necessary permits, interacted entirely with agency approvers, and secured and managed all subcontractors. As a design/build firm, they did notable portions of the work themselves, with transparent pricing and clear benchmarks for competitiveness.

Description of Work: Masterbuilder Fellowship for the Built Environment designed and remodeled a new art studio at my place of residence. I am a teaching artist and have been working and teaching out of a 150 square foot studio in my home for the past 12 years. As my need for more studio space grew and my class sizes increased I decided to remodel a 600 square foot detached storage building into a new art studio and classroom. Masterbuilder Fellowship did both the design and remodel of the project. This is a unique advantage they are able to offer the client. It was a tremendous benefit to me to have one company run the entire project from start to finish. It made the entire process very peaceful and gave me such a sense of rest knowing one caring and knowledgeable partner was overseeing all aspects of the work. I love being able to work from home and greatly appreciate the way Masterbuilder Fellowship took not only my occupational work but also my personal life into consideration when designing the new studio. What was once a very non-descript building in the yard has become a vibrant and lively art studio. The remodel has provided enough space to expand my business by being able to increase the amount of equipment I can have and thus enabling me to offer new classes for my students. I have also been able to increase my class size which is making my time more profitable. The new studio has been a tremendous benefit to my home and living environment as well. A large concrete patio connects the beautiful new studio with the house. During the day mothers use the patio to wait for their children, spend time together and work. I have also begun to use the patio as a quiet place to plan for classes and an area in which to dine and spend time with friends. By remodeling the detached storage building into the new studio I have gained not only a more wonderful place to work but a more gracious home in which to dwell. In addition to the studio Masterbuilder Fellowship previously designed and remodeled my original 1970s kitchen. They designed and remodeled the dark, outdated space into a bright and open room with wonderful work flow. The most dramatic aspect of the design was a large arched opening that was added to the wall that divides the kitchen from the living room. The living room was once a detached space with limited access to the rest of the house. The new opening connected the two rooms and took this once unused space and made it a vibrant part of the house. The large opening also faces the front window in the main room. This allows for natural sunlight to stream through the house into the kitchen and allows those in the kitchen to participate in life that is going on both inside and out. The whole project dramatically impacted life in the house. Upon its completion I felt like I gained not only a beautiful new kitchen but a new living room as well.

Description of Work: They repaired wood damage caused by termites on an existing home. I've also used them to build and remodel other homes in the past.

Description of Work: We hired Masterbuilder Fellowship to completely remodel a master bath, add a deck off that bath, redo another deck, another bathroom, and build an outdoor poolside structure. We started with a 1980's bath with a lot of wasted space and not much style. We now have a one of a kind masterbath with a deck that makes us feel like we're on vacation every morning. Some features include a walk in shower that requires no door or curtain, two custom sink cabinets with storage towers, a window seat, double tier vanity with more drawers and cubbies than I can fill, a separate toilet area, superior lighting, two dormer storage areas, custom shelving. The design encorporates three kinds of tile, slate, granite, art glass, wood, and wrought iron. The structure they designed and built for our poolside gets more use than any other room in our house. It features a soaring peaked ceiling, metal roof, brickwork, fine wordworking, expansive storage for pool equipment, lighting and ceiling fan. No cookie cutter spaces for us; our new areas may look straight off the pages of design magazines but they are different from anything we've ever seen. When I wanted to surprise my husband by adding a fountain to the outdoor structure but couldn't find exactly what I envisioned, one member of the team designed one. When we decided to add a door to the master deck, they suggested a curved top to echo a feature existing window. They took into consideration design elements throughout our house in order to make the new parts fit with and complement the whole. They noticed areas where we could get more efficient use of space and took care that practical, necessary aspects of the design could also become occasions for nice touches. (The support posts for our poolside structure needed to be sunk in concrete, some of which would show. They suggested using a rock or pebble finish and encouraged me to practice a little bit of creativity by using some stones my sons had collected when they were young.) The additional bath remodel took some space from an adjacent area, added a shower (where we feared there was not enough space), a sauna, and custom slate and tile work. The deck is completely resurfaced and old railings replaced with custom wrought iron. An unsightly outdoor area that housed pool and hvac units is now concealed behind a curved brick wall with a wrought iron gate.

Description of Work: Installed five double hung windows as part of a bedroom/bathroom renovation/addition. Total cost of addition was approximately $103,000 of which about $3,000 was attributed to cost of windows.
