Response from Kitchen Tune-Up
Oh...this is frustrating. The only thing this client did with us was get a kitchen design and renderings, she never did any actual work. She was extremely difficult to work with because she NEVER had the common courtesy to return any of our numerous phone calls (which we keep a record of). I did a site visit, created a design and color renderings way back on 5/19/2013. We called and left her a message that it was on her email. When we followed up in June, she said she couldn't open the files. Why she didn't call us is beyond me. We resent it to her in a simpler format. We also send out 2 subs to give her a quote on moving her laundry appliances to a new space that we would build out (we were hoping to do this after she approved the kitchen design, but she requested we get the "non kitchen" construction quote to her also so we accommodated her request). Again, we sent her that quote and called and left a message that it was on her email. We followed up on a regular basis but NEVER got so much as 1 phone call back. In October, we reached her live and she claimed once again that she didn't get her renderings. This went on 1 more time. In the end, we tried to get her to come to our showroom where I could display everything for her on our big screen TV and she could see her kitchen design and touch and feel the product we were proposing. Each request was met with some excuse why she couldn't come and she asked that we call her back at a later date. We put in a lot of time on this project but we can't be the only one interested in getting it done. The homeowner has to put in some effort and be somewhat responsive. In the end, I just left her a voicemail that explained that it appeared she may not have much of an interest either working with us or doing the project and I told her we would leave the ball in her court....but if she did have an interest, just to give me a call personally and we'd be happy to pursue it with her. She never called.

Description of Work: We purchased a Kitchen Tune-Up Big Deal believing that after consulting with their representative, they would provide us with a color rendering of what our kitchen would look like. Tom was on time for the pre-scheduled appointment. After an hour or so of generalized talking (cabinet colors and counter materials),I asked Tom about about when we would get the rendering of our remodeled kitchen. We were told that for the work we wanted done, they would not do one. The only visuals provided was a brochure containing different colors and cabinet facings that was sent in advance of the appointment. When we asked to see samples and photos of other projects, we were told he did not have them and that we should visit their showroom. Tom did take measurements of the counters and cabinets and provided us with a cost estimate before leaving. We would classify this experience as a bust and one would could have lived without.

I must say it is very frustrating when a client does this. She purhased a kitchen design and rendering. This is clearly stated in the offer. That means a NEW kitchen layout. What this client wanted was to have their doors painted. I clearly explained that this was not the intent of the offering because if I replicated their existing kitchen on my design software I could only put the cabinets in colors offered in new cabinets (rather than custom colors we can spray that they can select). All they would see is their existing kitchen in a cabinet color offered by a cabinet manufacturer. In addition, we the design software to show kitchen layouts and approximate colors and NEVER allow a client to select their kitchen colors from a computer drawing because they will differ from one monitor to the next...so we ALWAYS have our clients select colors from actual samples. This is the only way to do it. So, a rendering would not accomplish anything, be a waste of my time and their money. I also explained that since what they needed didn't really match the offering they had 2 options. They could get a refund from Angie's list with no problem OR if they did have us spray their cabinet doors, we'd just deduct the $49 from their bill. Both offers are extremely fair so I don't see why this client would rate the experience as an F. [member name removed] did call me back and asked if we would write her a check from $49 if they decided to use another company for the cabinet spraying. I told her I could not do that as we receive zero dollars from her coupon purchase, but I was sure Angie's list would have no problem issuing her a refund. They simply didn't understand the coupon and since they can get a full refund, I truly don't understand why they would give us an F. Knowing that a rendering was not going to give them any value, I wonder what they wanted me to do?
