Kitchen Tune-Up

The timing just wasn't right for our project but it was a good way to dip our toes into the serious considerations of remodeling. Tom was very nice to work with and very patient with our special requests. Although the design wasn't quite as creative as we'd hoped, it would have worked very well if we'd been able to implement.

It was an average job. I was not impressed by the unprofessional ism of the workers. The owner had promised to follow up and never did.

The plan given was adequate, however the printed schematic of the renovation was amateurish and had serious computer errors that he said were "a program glitch". I had Lowes in after this provider and they were so helpful and gave me a detailed schematic with dimensions for free even before I had agreed to use them for the renovation. Tom of Kitchen Tune Up told me if any of the cabinets came in with poor quality as far as the grain goes, I would have to replace them at my cost. Lowes and Kraftmade replaced 5 doors at their expense merely because I didn't like the grain. I also found out Kitchen tune up was selling me cabinets with veneers on the doors while I got Kraftmade cabinets from Lowes that were all wood construction even the doors. I paid less for the job to Lowes and the service and completed kitchen were exemplary. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Another thing, when I was honestly discussing the fact that I was torn between Kitchen Tune Up and Lowes, Tom was very vocal at maligning Lowes as a whole. I found that silly and unprofessional.

I bought the "Big Deal" because it seemed a good way to find out if I could really swing a partial remodel for the kitchen of my 1956 house. Response was good, and they even reminded me when I had not set up an appointment after a month or so had passed. Tom Taube was punctual and professional. He is very knowledgeable about a variety of vendors, and it sounded like his organization is quite capable of handling all aspects of the cabinet/peninsula portions of the job such as additional plumbing and heat duct relocation. The price quoted proved to me that I was not being realistic about what I could afford so I did not pursue the job.

Tom was prompt and personable. He helped me select cabinet doors, and then referred me to his contacts to pick out granite (Harkey), tile (Tile Shop), appliances (Plaza) and a faucet (Majestic). Most give special pricing for KTU customers. Tom and his wife Debi served as project managers and scheduled everything. All the workers did a good job and cleaned up each day, so I was able to use the kitchen even while the work was in progress. I would definitely use KTU again.

KTU came to my home and brought samples of cabinet doors and an outline of their whole turnkey operation. Tom Taube listened to my wishes for the kitchen remodel and made suggestions for how best to implement them in a cost-effective manner. He subs out some of the work, but he stayed on top of the subs, and there were no issues at all with scheduling and installation. His workers and the subs all came when they said they would, finished on time, and cleaned up after themselves. When the granite was installed, KTU came that morning and tore out the old laminate. By suppertime that same day, my new granite countertop was completed and useable. Same with the dishwasher: old removed and new installed in about 3 hours. The whole remodel, including major electrical changes in the ceiling lighting, was completed in about ten days. One of the reasons I had put off doing such a large job was that I dreaded my kitchen being torn up for weeks. It didn't happen that way! I was never without access to my kitchen! Tom and Debi, who does most of the scheduling, communicated well with me and let me know of any changes to the schedule. I received a printable schedule via email, and any changes were also noted on the schedule. This helped me stay on track with what was happening and to be ready for the workers when they arrived. I am thrilled with my new kitchen and with the service provided by KTU.

I appreciate the information that Tom provided me. We were not in a position financially at the time to proceed with the work, so it was mostly an information gathering exercise for me, It seems like Kitchen Tune-Ups is mostly focused on cabinets. He said they could sub out other work, that would be needed. Tom was very professional and knowledgable. When we were ready to re-model our kitchen, we ultimately used another contractor that seemed more full service and that could also handle some other, non-kitchen issues at the same time.

Franchise owner Tom Taube made 2 visits and his brother Tim made an additional visit during the planning stage. Everything was completed in a timely manner. Easy to work with and eager to please!

I was able to pick out everything. They had pictures and showrooms they sent me to. He talked to me about different price-points because some things I wanted to go high-end and some things I didn't, so he had different options. The experience with them was very easy. They're very clean and they didn't trash my house though it's on the second floor. They were very diligent about trying to keep the dust down so they shut the doors when they worked because they were ripping everything out. I felt like they did everything they could do to keep the mess down. At first they put cloth down and then they would vacuum on their way out, which I appreciated. They had to put new lighting in. I wanted pan lights, but I didn't have them and I wanted plugs moved to be more logical with the new configuration, so they had to do all that. I love it. I'm jealous because it's my kids' bathroom. My bathroom's about three times as big so we're saving for a few years and then we're calling them back. They didn't do one bad thing. I checked around and they were competitive in the pricing. I paid in thirds.

All I got was the same free estimate that got for other companies. They didn't include the blue print they said they would

The company was very responsive and worked with me on timing. Unfortunately we did not use the drawings or do the work to update the kitchen and so cannot speak to anything beyond the initial consultation and drawings.

They were excellent. They came out and gave us a great estimate. We enjoyed everything they showed us. We decided not to go forward with the work.

We are preparing to put our house on the market. Our kitchen was renovated 25 years ago and is in good condition, but was showing a little wear. Two years ago we replaced our appliances and the installer told me about Kitchen Tune-Up. When I called, Tom was very responsive. Within a few days he had come to my house and explained everything they would do and gave an estimate. I paid a deposit and within a week or so my job was scheduled so that it would be finished before the holidays. One worker did the entire job and was a pleasure to work with. I think his name was Bobby. The entire job took 2 days. I only had to empty the cabinets or drawers which required interior adjustments and clear off the countertops. He was very neat and cleaned up after himself. The cabinet exteriors were thoroughly cleaned and polished and look new. The drawers and pull-outs he adjusted work like new. He explained everything I needed to know about caring for them and promised to come back if anything needed more attention. There was some odor from the products he used, but he ran an exhaust fan and opened windows. All odors had dissipated within 2 hours of the job being finished. I am very pleased and strongly recommend Kitchen Tune-Up.

Even though this is what the deal's description made it sound like, this is not what they intended to offer. They were very helpful and apologetic this, though. They seem to be a good, cordial company, but the the Big Deal does not do them justice, since they do not do kitchen design consultation. Apparently it was supposed to just cover a kitchen demolition and complete revamp.

The bathroom looks wonderful. Had some 'issues' with subcontractors that could have went smoother. Based on the situation we were really disappointed that a more heartfelt apology or some time of customer perk was not provided based on the huge inconvenience we had to deal with. No follow-up calls have been made since the project was completed to confirm we were happy with the end result. Again the overall results of the bathroom turned out beautiful.

The process was easy and not at all disruptive. A woman performed all the sealing processing. She was very meticulous and very neat. A great product and great experience.

I found Kitchen Tune Up on Angie's list, along with 2 other contractors. Tom Taube, with Kitchen Tune Up, was very prompt in coming out to give us an estimate, as a matter of fact he was always on time. We chose Kitchen Tune Up for this very reason. Tom was very courteous and friendly and worked with us to give us the kitchen of our dreams. He turned a 1978 sows ear into a 2012 silk purse. From the sub contractors, to Debi, his wife, who dose all the scheduling, all were very professional and caring. They cared about our family situation, we care for 2 elderly family members in our home, working with us to make the remodel as smooth and fast as possible. We did some of the work ourselves, like demolition of an old pantry, to make room for the fridge. But the overall work was done by Kitchen Tune Up. The walk through, at the completion went well. All that needed to be done was a few drawer and door adjustments, they were taken care of promptly. Many thanks to, Danny, Leonard, Keith, Dana, Holly, David, Angie, Tim and of course, Debi and Tom who made it a very GOOD experience. I say your company is only as good as the people you hire to work with you, and they were all excellent. I will contact them again if I need any remodeling work done, God Bless you All

Mr. Taube returned my call within 24 hours after I contacted him to make an appointment. Angie came at the agreed upon time and sealed my countertops. When she left the countertops had a glass top appearance and water beaded on the surface. The next day I noticed some areas where there were water spots and some streaking. (Please note that my countertops are black and depending upon how the light hits them determines what you are able to see on their surface.) Kitchen Tune-Up came back out and fixed the problem. My countertops look as new as when we moved in.

The overall experience was very pleasant. Mr. Taube was prompt coming out to give us an estimate and we also ordered new knobs and pulls to be installed at the finish of the job. The young man who did the work arrived on time and worked all day cleaning, tinting, sealing and polishing the cabinets. It actually took two days to finish the laundry room, kitchen, and master bathroom. He had to replace wood where the chewing had taken place but you would now never know it had been there. Bobby cleaned up any debris or mess before he left each day and made an extra trip back the second day to install the knobs that had just arrived at the shop. He was a very nice young man and new a lot about woods. You could tell he enjoyed his work and seeing the results. I could not be more pleased with the results of the work. They don't look worn or old and dry anymore. They actually shine! I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody and have praised them to my friends.

Tom came out to the house twice to measure. We wanted to get the remodel done before Thanksgiving, so he ordered the cabinets, doors and shelves in time to get them in two weeks before Thanksgiving. They started on a Friday, and with the least amount of disruption, his crew installed the new cabinets to replace the desk, new cabinet doors and drawers and island, installed new sink and countertops and everything except the backsplash was finished for Thanksgiving. The best thing for me was the spreadsheet schedule they gave me before the project even started so that I could see exactly what was going to happen each day of the project.

Our experience with Tom Taube and Kitchen Tune Up was terrific. After 12 years of use, everything needed to be refreshed. The number of cabinet surfaces was somewhat surprising - we didn't realize we had so many! The work took 2.5 days, exactly as estimated. The workman was punctual, diligent and very pleasant. Our kitchen & bath look like new again, and we're very happy with the results.
