It turned out time. They came out and I had them do some work. Some of the added work...the guy that came out...the crew did a great job but there was a lack of communication. They came and fix it...we were more than happy and made sure that everything was alright.

Cleaned out the crawl space and installed in a timely manner. Just be aware that initial deal will more than likely not cover all the sq footage you need so there will be add on costs.

It was easy to schedule an appointment and they arrived on time. I had purchased a Big Deal for the service, but they said that they provided this service at no cost. I had the Big Deal refunded after learning this. They were pretty professional. They did end up pressuring me into an extra service that I now am unsure if I truly needed it. My experience with the company was fine.

I waited to write this review until winter cold so I could accurately rate the performance gains by having this kind of repair service done to a house. My house is heated and cooled with a heat pump. Two of my 4 bedrooms would be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Not any more! The air temp for the entire second floor is uniform both in summer and in winter! The way the system works is that Peter Natland and his crew seal every air register in the house. They hook up a computerized monitor and are able to measure (in cfm) the amount of air leakage you have. My house started out with a total of 90 CFM of leakage. Then for the next 20 minutes, they inject a sealing compound into the duct system and are able to print out on a graph the performance gains as the sealer does it's work. When completed, I only had 4CFM of leakage! What this means is that the two bedrooms at the end of the line were now getting the air needed to cool and heat them. My heat pump also ran less often to maintain the temp in our home. All this was done without cutting holes or otherwise gaining access to to the duct system that was installed in the ceiling between the first and second floor. The last step was to disconnect the monitor, remove the seals from the ductwork throughout the house, in install the register covers. When they left there was no trace that they had even been there except for the fact that every room in the house was now the same temperature. Although this was an expensive project, in the end it was money well spent as the efficiency of my heat pump has been improved and the house is way more comfortable!
Description of Work: test the air duct system in my two story house for leaks and make needed repairs.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us. We apologize about the delay in installing the vapor barrier. Due to all the rain and humidity this summer; we were extremely busy with large mold remediation projects. We hope you enjoy the benefits of having a vapor barrier in your crawlspace and thank you for being a valued customer.

Would have given them straight As, but they accidentally cut my internet/tv cable under the house and, when it went out (I work from a home office) and I asked them whether they might have damaged it, the crew brushed it off and said it wasn't them. After a service visit from my internet/cable provider, it turns out they DID cut it. The owner came out and looked at it himself and apologized for the mistake. He offered to pay any expenses for the repair. Fortunately, there weren't any, but I was basically out of work for 3 days until it got fixed. A simple mistake - we all make them - but if the crew had just taken a second look under there, it could have been fixed more quickly. Otherwise, the service was just fine, and the price was great!

Thank you for taking a moment to leave this feedback. I sincerely apologize that the crew brushed off your question about the cable and did not go back underneath to check it. Since this incident; we have spoken to them about how to handle a situation should it ever happen again in the future. We are sincerely thankful that the cable was able to be repaired without expense, but would have absolutely covered any expenses occuring as a result of our crew. Thank you again for your feedback.

Scott was very thorough. Called several weeks in advance to set up the service, and coordinated everything smoothly. The day of the job he called an hour before and let us know he would be a few minutes late, always keeping us in the loop. He gave us an excellent and complete report, delivered to my email by the time he left the house. No hassles, no upcharges. Just straight talk. Very useful, so we will go from here with future work to make sure our spaces are as efficient as they can be to save us money in the long run. Thanks Scott, great work!

The guy came by and we talked a while. The problem for me was my contract ended in July and even when I called them, I told them that there was no way that I could do anything at this time, because I do not have a job right now. I looked at their pricing. They do know what they are talking about. I know that some of the work that they were talking about does need to be done. I would use them again.

They were supposed to come out and seal up the crawl space. They have poor service. A 5-6 day job turned into two months. I still have high humidity levels and water in my crawl space. The CEO Jay Lanzy has admitted to all of their mistakes they have made in the past two months. He agreed to pay me back 100% of what has gone out and then went back on his word last night. Response - I submitted pictures, 3rd party inspection reports (3rd party inspection on May 30th, 3rd party re-inspection on Sept 5th) , submitted e-mails from Fresh Air to the Better Business Bureau. From July 25th to Sept 30th, Have wasted time, energy and money. Still have high humidity, water in crawl, sump pump installed that does not function, nor installed in agreed upon location per proposal from Fresh Air, per inspection on May 30th and inspection on Sept 5th. Now Oct 8th is the first time Fresh Air mentions that they installed in high part of my crawl space due to field observations. Fresh Air had around 2 months to correct and did not correct even though their proposal stated to locate sump pump in right rear, the inspection and re-inspection as well. Fresh Air installed dehumidifier that the specs state go up to 2200 sf. Specs for dehumidifier were provided to me by their CEO (Jay Lanzy) on Sept 30th. My crawl space is about 2,503 SF. Does not make any sense.

Response from Fresh Air Technologies, LLC
Homeowner contacted me the morning of September 30, 2013 to go over the inspection results of a second company that he hired to critique our work. No report of findings from the second company was provided to Fresh Air Technologies. All the information from the second inspection came directly from the conversation with Homeowner. Wood moisture or relative humidity readings were not collected as a part of their assessment. The company did not comment on the condition of the mold abatement, insulation, debris in crawlspace or vapor barrier observed. The company indicated that the dehumidifier we installed was undersized for that size of crawlspace. I provided Homeowner with documentation from the equipment manufacturer stating that the dehumidifier was in fact sized properly for the size of Homeowner’s crawlspace. I asked Homeowner point blank if this was the company that he intended to hire to “rip everything out and start over” and he said yes. As the conversation continued and I pointedly asked him that if he did not think that is was a direct conflict of interest to hire the company that told him to remove everything, without direct evidence, to hire them to complete the job. He backtracked and said he would get three estimates—to completely undo and redo everything we recently completed per the terms of his signed contract, minus the entire mold remediation that was successfully completed. During the telephone conversation, I informed Homeowner that a refund was possible after I review the work that we completed and if the current conditions observed inside of the crawlspace are not up to our specification. In no way would I (or anyone else for that matter) offer any kind of refund without seeing the completed job for themselves. On Monday, September 30th, 2013 at 5pm I arrived at the property to evaluate the work that was completed and to document the conditions that were observed. Wood moisture readings were collected using a Delmhorst BD-2100 wood moisture meter. Relative humidity readings were collected using an Extech 445580 relative humidity meter. Both units are considered standard for the industry. A map showing the location of the readings was created and photographs of the readings in the sample locations and others were taken. Six wood moisture readings were collected throughout the crawlspace during our site walkover. The readings range from a low of 9.3% located near the dehumidifier to 13.2% near the front left of crawlspace. A reading of 11.7% was recorded near the right rear corner taken near the sensor. The average wood moisture readings collected during the site walkover was 12.02%. This wood moisture reading is considered low for this time of the year. The wood moisture readings collected on June 10, 2013 (as depicted in the proposal dated June 28th prepared by Neil Dixon and signed by Homeowner) indicated a high wood moisture reading of 26% which is considered high for that time of year. This represents a 100% reduction in wood moisture since undertaking the job. Seven relative humidity readings were collected throughout the crawlspace during the site walkover. The readings ranged between 52.9% located near the dehumidifier and 69.9% near the right rear corner near the sensor. The average relative humidity reading in the crawlspace during the site walkover was 58.81% which is considered normal in a crawlspace for this time of year. No relative humidity readings were collected as a part of the original site walkover on June 10, 2013. Only one relative humidity reading collected during our site walkover (right rear) was identified above the arbitrary 60% threshold. The location of this sample is considerably far away from the current location of the dehumidifier. The further the distance, the longer it takes for the dehumidifier to remove moisture from an area. Please note that the wood moisture reading in this area is an acceptable 11.7%. We have already demonstrated that we have effectively reduced wood moisture and relative humidity readings throughout the crawlspace with the exception of this one area. To quickly enhance the effectiveness of drying in this area, we proposed to simply increase the setting on the dehumidifier to operate with more frequency therefore a higher drying capacity. By doing this, it would increase the sphere of drying influence in the crawlspace. I also proposed installing another duct from the dehumidifier to this area to speed up drying—without cost to (removed member name). These rights to cure were denied by Homeowner. We also informed Homeowner that we would relocate the sump pump to the right rear location as he requested at no cost. The crawlspace is relatively flat and we used field judgment for the placement. The topography on the right hand side was observed to trend from the right rear to the right front corner. This was pointed out to Homeowner during the site walkover. I told him again we could deploy immediately for both fixes and he again refused our right to cure. During the site walkover on September 30, the crawlspace appeared dry and in good condition. The insulation was in excellent condition and was installed properly within the cavity of the floor joist. The vapor barrier was installed correctly with the appropriate overlaps and pinned using soil pins. A small amount of dried silt was observed near the sump pump. All of the issues Homeowner listed in the complaint document pertaining to the insulation, vapor barrier, debris removal & dehumidifier ducting were resolved by our company on September 20th before the site walkover and negative review. None of these items were mentioned by the second company during their assessment. I initially took homeowner’s word about the quality of the work provided in our early conversation, as tact and grace would dictate, until I could review the work personally. I do admit that we did have a few hiccups along the way but we diligently made adjustments to anything homeowner requested. He will not let us make the final simple modifications necessary to totally complete the job. We have clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of the repairs that we completed at his property. I do not think that Homeowner deserves a refund for the work that was provided to him whatsoever; rather, homeowner should fulfill the contract he signed by paying us the remainder of the agreed upon price. The vehicle that we deployed was an empty chevy Silverado pick-up truck with a large fiberglass “bubble” situated on the back. The empty weight of our truck is approximately 6,200 lbs. We know this because the truck is weighed empty on a regular basis at the landfills that we frequent. The weight is comparable to the large SUV that Homeowner drives. I am not denying the brick coping along the asphalt driveway was damaged. Upon closer observation of the area, it is apparent that this portion of the driveway was repaired several different times using several types of materials. At no time did homeowner tell us not to drive on any portion of the driveway with our vehicles. We contacted a third party structural engineer to provide an assessment of the construction of the driveway. He informed us that the driveway was not constructed properly and it has the potential to fail in this area. We just had the misfortune to be the one that Homeowner is blaming for the poor construction of his driveway.

The guy who came out was very professional. He walked through the entire crawl space and inspected it for leaks, mold, etc. However, here are my issues and the reasons for the negative review: 1- The "inspection" that we paid for was really just a foot in the door for him to pitch more work to us. To his credit, he sent us an estimate in writing proposing additional work. 2- In addition, he also stated that one of our pipes was leaking sewage and that we needed to have a plumber clean it up and then have a new vapor barrier installed. Because of this, we had two different plumbers come out to look for the leak, and no one found anything!
Description of Work: After lots of rain and issues with our sump pump, we bought the big deal on Angie's List for this provider to come out and inspect our sub basement. We'd already gotten a new sump pump, but we were interested in having the area inspected for mold and potentially making improvements to the space to prevent mold, flooding, etc. A provider contacted us almost immediately after purchasing the deal and came out promptly. He walked through our sub basement and said he'd get back to us with a plan to reinforce certain areas, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We pride ourselves on being fair and honest when it comes to these inspections. We would never recommend or push work to be done that was not a factor potentially leading to poor indoor air quality. We apologize that you feel this way, however, Alan has been with Fresh Air Technologies for 10 years and has always had an excellent reputation with our customers - both new and recurring such as real estate agents and contractors. We are not a company that makes an attempt to get a foot in the door to pitch unneccesary work like many other companies. These inspections are to identify potential problems contributing to short and long term mold, crawlspace moisture, and poor indoor air quality. If anything was found that could cause issues down the road, we would always propose solving now to avoid large scale problems in the future, but never push or demand that the homeowner follows through with our recommendations.

***Update*** About 6 months after the original service was performed, I had some additional unrelated work done in the crawlspace by another contractor. At the conclusion of that project the contractor informed me that there was a lot of dark colored insulation along an interior wall of my crawlspace. I was obviously concerned since I recently paid to have the basement insulation re-done and a vapor barrier installed, but more concerned that there may be mold in under my home. I emailed Fresh-Air that evening and within 5 minutes I had a response (8pm on a Sunday Night), the next morning a Manager was out on site at my house to evaluate the problem, and the next day the problem was fixed....and after additional investigation, this wasn't even part of the original scope of work. So imagine my surprise when the guys at Fresh Air told me that they were doing this at no cost because they wanted me to have peace of mind. This is the level of service that just doesn't exist anymore - these guys have earned my loyalty to say the least. **************************************************************************************************************************************** Went great, team arrived on time and completed quickly. Cleaned up after they were done. I feel comfortable going into my crawlspace now that it is clean and tidy.

Estimator actually arrived ahead of schedule. The technicians arrived on time, used a drop cloth to protect our flooring, worked efficiently and hauled off the refuse. Once the fumes from all that plastic subsided, we were pleased with the result. The exterminator who does our annual termite inspection asked who had installed the vapor barrier. He said they had done a really good, thorough job. The only glitch in the entire process was that we had to phone the provider after purchasing the deal. They did not make the initial contact. This was my first Big Deal purchase, and I did not know exactly what to expect.

I was a little worried they would not be responsive based on some reviews, so I called first to see how long it would take them to come out. I got a quick return call and they seemed very responsive. I forget the price - $49? $89? It was a good value for the amount of time spent on the audit. The audit was very comprehensive. They did a door blower test, looked at ventilation in the house, completed an extensive questionnaire about our energy usage. They also looked in the crawlspace and attic. At the end, they prepared a report with detailed recommendations (the final report and estimates took a long time though). I'm thankful they came out, they identified a few loose boots (where the AC enters the house) that I was able to repair. However, the other recommendations didn't really seem worth the expense. I think these companies would do well to provide a cost justification for their recommendations. In many cases, the improvements would save most homeowners money - but this isn't the case for me. The energy consumption in my house is not primarily related to heating/cooling, so the suggestions for radiant barriers and other insulation don't really make sense financially (especially with a heavily shaded tile roof). The point of energy improvements should be to make the house more comfortable, improve air quality and lower heating/cooling costs (and these should result in cost savings - so the improvement should pay for itself within X years). In my case we had no comfort issues, very little air quality issues (just the crawlspace discussed below), and low heating/cooling costs. They spent a lot of time recommending a sealed crawlspace, but again, the justification isn't there to do it. My crawlspace was wet - we had an incredibly wet spring and later I discovered I had a leak in a hose along the house that was putting water under the house. We shut off the hose (and sealed one plumbing penetration that they identified for us) and now have a dry crawlspace - and it's didn't cost $12,000. Maybe long term a sealed crawlspace would be nice, there's just no compelling reason to do it. I had a few people come out for estimates and a couple guys said "really, it's not that bad, why do you want to do this?". To be fair, I fully expected them to present a long list of recommendations - that's the point of getting into your home for an energy audit. However, I hope that other homeowners are savvy enough to weed through the comments to get at the real improvements that are needed, particularly the ones that are cost effective.

Alan Shorts came and did the inspection that we paid the $49 for and then sent us an estimate the next day for what he thought should be done for the moisture that seemed to always be in the crawl space since we moved in at the end of April. We talked to him while he was here & got some good pointers from him on other possible reasons for the moisture with the biggest issue seeming to be the way the landscaping is on one side of the house. He estimated that we needed a drain installed in the crawl space with a sump pump. At this time we are going to try & take care of the landscaping on our own & wait to see how the moisture issue reacts going forward. We realize that this past spring has been extremely wet so before we pay almost $3k we will see if better landscaping will take care of the issue.
Description of Work: We used a coupon for $49 crawl space water proofing & foundation drainage inspection.

I am planning on him doing the work but have to wait until I can afford it. I was very pleased with him and he is the first person who has admitted that my ducts are leaky which I have been asking people to inspect for years. Everyone else said they were fine and I was pretty sure they weren't!
Description of Work: He came and inspected my crawl space and then we discussed options. Later he sent me a detailed estimate of services.
