Chuck was quick to come out, made a good first impression, put together a good plan for gates; prices were high, but he said he wasn't cheap. Gates and control systems were installed quickly, looked good. Chuck insisted on immediate payment though I was not available to witness final test. One of the photocells didn't work; Chuck's brother fixed it promptly. Soon after, a metal detector didn't work. I called once a week for 8 weeks, asked if he could fix it; he promised he would each week, never did. The last time I called he cursed me, called me a liar, accused me of breaking it, told me never to call him again. I paid someone else to fix it--repairman said sensor was wired wrong. I paid someone to replace the hinges after they broke multiple times. Chuck had said his uncle made the gates; company that repaired them said they had made them, they didn't know him, and he had used hinges too small for that gate.
Description of Work: Installed two large single-leaf aluminum automatic gates across a split driveway. Included control systems, two photocells, two metal detectors, two operators/motors. Gates looked good and were installed well using good materials, though later problems surfaced with control systems. I gave him a C on quality because the gates are very solid and were installed well, but the control systems and hinges had multiple problems I had to pay someone else to fix. Price was very high (Chuck said he would not be the cheapest). Initial installation was prompt, follow-through was good on first problem encountered, but his service and responsiveness quickly became very poor.

I was in a tight spot as my builder abandoned his obligation to provide fencing of a pool when I was expecting to get a C/O. I called a number of companies and was referred to Chuck by one guy I called. Chuck was responsive and available to provide me with basic aluminum fencing around two corners of a pool that involved two gates and about 60 linear feet of fence. He was very responsive and assured me he would take care of the job and his guys did the work when he promised so that was positive. The price he quoted was quite high (more than twice what others would charge me) but I needed it fast and I agreed to it as I was in a bind and the other companies could not move as quickly as they were backed up for a few weeks. The work was done timely but I had to call them to add one more length of fence which was missing and also to put caps on several posts which were missing and adjust a couple of them to make sure they were squared off. They came back and addressed the missing fence but still missed one cap. Further his guys left a wooden pallet from the packaging laying the the yard. I called a second time and they added the cap but didn't square the post. When I contacted Chuck he was on vacation but said it would be taken care of. A couple of messages later and no response. Finally I sent a note of disappointment and received this reply: "No, didn?t forget been out of town and my employees were supposed to resolve this. However your comments are not substantiated and quite unappreciated and most of all?you?re being EXTREMELY picky and I believe you?re aware of this. Regards Chuck." What an awful response rather than taking pride in doing a good job. For a job that cost me $2400 and only took a couple of hours, I believe I should be entitled to have the square posts be positioned squarely and consistently with the other posts. Apparently this is too picky. If you are looking for attention to detail in your work, you may want to look elsewhere. If his response had ended with a comment that he would ensure the job was well done to my satisfaction I would have not submitted this review.
Description of Work: Chuck was being hired to install about 50 - 60 feet of aluminum fencing with two gates around a raised pool deck. He scoped the job as requiring a couple of hours and performed the work on time as promised.

They were quick to do the job and ask for payment, but when we discovered there were portions of the fence they did not stain, Chuck refused to complete the job. Even after I texted him a picture of one of several posts that were not stained on one side, he said "That's the best I can do."

It went great! I contacted the office and Chuck returned my call within a day. He came out that very same day while I was at work and called me back with an estimate to remove the posts and surrounding pickets, replace the post and reuse the pickets. Chuck had repaired the split rail fence at the back of my property two days after I moved in 5 years ago and had been recommended by a co-worker. He's actually the person who told me about Angies List and I joined and have used their services ever since. He did a great job, was very personable and professional and I would definitely use his services again.
Description of Work: One of the posts that supports my 6 foot privacy fence was leaning from the base and causing the fence to curve outward.

Two more weeks go by and we still have not heard anything. This is now 4 weeks with no contact from him, yet he cashed our check immediately after receiving it. I called back again and was told the same thing, in fact she said he was in the field and she would have him call me. Again, I was not called back and we were not added to the schedule. At this point she says she's going to have him call me on Monday (I called on a Wednesday). I waited until the Wednesday of the following week before calling back and on that Wednesday I was told there was a death in the family and that's why he didn't call. She said she'd have him call me by Friday. I waited until the following week to call. I let them know I was irritated because it has now been 6 weeks and we still have no installation date set up or call back from Mr. Conner. At that point I told them I needed to hear back from them immediately or I was going to cancel. I then did finally receive a call from Chuck on the 26th and he left me a voicemail saying he promises to call me Monday and that they would be out the week of the 29th. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday came and went with nothing. Thursday, October 2nd Chuck called and left a message at 8:45am stating that they would like to get started tomorrow and that location markers had been set. At this point we have decided we won't be using them because we are completely dissatisfied with them and no location markers had even been laid! He said he did 2 location surveys since we talked, but not one survey marker has been laid. My fiance called and spoke with Chuck and told him we would be canceling our contract and requesting a refund minus the amount for the survey. Chuck advised him to put it in writing and send it to the office and also state that the cancellation was contingent upon the refund of our deposit. Patrick called Misty at the office and relayed this information to her. She told him all she does is scheduling and that we should email Chuck. I wrote an email, stating why we were canceling and gave the exact amount of our deposit minus the survey and I also let him know no survey markers had ever been laid. I said we expected the exact amount of $1,216.00 to be refunded and I also asked for an email or fax copy of the plot survey and the original to be mailed to me. I sent this to the address given to me. I received an email back from Mr. Conner in all caps stating that these accusations are false and he would discuss them with us if we wanted to make an appointment to review paperwork. At this point I responded with another email detailing everything again and let him know there were no property markers and I wouldn't pay for services that hadn't been rendered. I also tried to call him in the mean time, but I didn't leave a voicemail. He did return my call, to my business, but he talked in circles and wouldn't answer my questions directly. I hung up with him at this point because we were getting nowhere.
Description of Work: We were interested in putting a fence in our backyard. Our new neighbor's dogs are very aggressive and have jumped the fence several times. We called several companies from the list and Chuck Conner's company was the last we contacted. He came out and was very friendly and comparable in price so we decided to go with him. Then we decided perhaps we didn't want to do the entire backyard, but instead the back line only. We let him know this. At that point I was expecting some kind of updated quote for the backline. I have never received this. I called Mr. Conner again and let him know we wanted to do a survey and I asked him to meet us at our property. My fiance went to meet him at the property and they discussed the installation of the backline fence. At that point Mr. Conner made it sound like he had given me a quote with all the numbers, when in fact I didn't know any of the numbers. Patrick, my fiance then signed the contract under the assumption that I knew the pricing they were talking about which I did not. It actually ended up being double what I thought it would be. I called Mr. Conner and asked him why the price was so high for an even smaller amount of fence (we went from doing the whole backyard to just the backline). We told him we needed to discuss this among ourselves and that we would get back to him. At that point, about a week or two tops passed. We called and decided we'd go ahead and move forward with the installation of the backline of the fence. He said great and that he would have Misty from his office contact us to set an appointment up. Two weeks went by and I heard nothing so I called Misty and told her we were supposed to be put on the schedule, but had not been. She said she would contact Mr. Conner and one of them would contact us.

Overall unhappy with the work they built this time, and unhappy with chuck's attitude and demeanor. We used him at our last house, but after his experience, I would not use him again.
Description of Work: I had a privacy fence built along the property line. There was a large tree on the line and bumping out on our side would have encroached on the driveway, so I asked that they get as close to the tree as possible and build rails/pickets out to it. They left nearly 5 feet on each side, it looked unfinished. Chuck was anxious to get started as they had an opening in their schedule, but I explained I was waiting on my tax return. He agreed, the second half of payment would come in 2-3 weeks when I got the refund, but then demanded payment the day the fence was complete. He was very threatening and rude. Completely unprofessional.

The owner was there every day. The workers were kind and courteous. I felt safe with the workers here. They were pleasant people. Our neighbors were also impressed and they made sure their yards looked good too. They were so attentive to detail.
Description of Work: The owner was here every day. They ripped out the old fence and installed a wood privacy fence with some arches. They fence in about half an acre. They worked around some things that weren't easy to work around. It looks great. They took everything and hauled it away. It looks like a brand new yard.

I called and left a message - they got back to me shortly after. I had to schedule for Chuck to come out a week later, since they were so busy - it was just going to be the small repair and an estimate. He called me to let me know he'd be coming and even offered to pick up anything I needed from the store. :) It made me laugh, how nice was that? He showed up - and I proceeded to show him the broken piece of fence (it's my neighbor's fence but a tree fell in our backyard and broke a bit of the top split-rail) and it was such a minor job he said he didn't even know how to price it - he jokingly said we could buy him a pizza. :P He then went on to tell me how much it was per foot of installed fence I was interested in, but that I should really take care of the drainage problem in my yard before I think about fencing. We scheduled the fence repair for the next week. Basically with his friendliness, candor and genuineness, he guaranteed our future business!

Chuck and his office staff were very good with communication. He originally provided a general estimate by phone and later measured the job for exact cost. We ran into one challenge with an area of the yard, and Chuck provided some solid alternatives. Work began right on schedule and was completed in a day and a half. The crew worked hard, was very good in responding to questions and tweaked some things as they went along. I would definitely use these guys again.

Chuck came out and gave us a prompt estimate for the work. We wanted a privacy fence with "craftsman" style details. He showed us an example of the desired fence from a photo book he keeps of his work. After we decided to use Forge Fence, Chuck scheduled us within a few weeks. Chuck showed up with his crew the morning the project started, to lay out the fence and checked in with them several times both days. Upon completion, we noted a few items that needed to be addressed (gate spacing and one slightly warped panel) and he had them corrected immediately. We and our neighbors love the fence and have recommended Chuck and his crew to everyone who has commented on it. Please note that the photo attached to this review was taken before the fence was completed and there are a few boards that have not been cut down to the final profile and the finishing caps have not been placed on the posts.

Work took 2 partial days -- less than promised. Cleaned up well after themselves. We had 2 special requests. We asked that they leave some of the old rails. They left the number we asked for and stacked them nicely. We also asked that they replace a fence that we shared with a neighbor on the same day they removed it. They did.

Chuck called back promptly. Within 3 days, he came, measured, gave me layout suggestions and gave me a quote. On the 3rd day, the fence was erected. As questions came up, Chuck was good about returning my calls to him. Several weeks after installation, one gate warped. I called and the next day a bad board on the gate was replaced. Chuck was pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable. He helped us decide on proper placement for the fence by giving us ideas about gate and post placement. The fence installers were clean, polite and quiet. The installation took two days. The installers cleaned up at the end of each day.

The estimate didn't go too good. The estimate was exactly $1000 more than my other two quotes. The quote lacked any detail at all as to what they were going to build. We have a large yard; the fence quote was a 2" x 2" sketch on a 8 1/2 x 11" blank piece of paper with hardly anything written but the lengths. We got the feeling they were in a hurry. Estimate $5300.

I waited for approx 45 minutes after our scheduled time to meet before finally receiving a call from Chuck saying he was late. I ended up waiting another 45 minutes until he finally showed. We had a great conversation overall about his product and philosophy and I was all set to use him until I had to virtually beg for the quote in writing. He promised me a quote within 2 days and I still had not received it a week later. When I received the quote it was the highest quote received. See above for what happened next. Once Chuck questioned my integrity and showed a complete lack off flexibility I went with another company which was approximately $1,200 cheaper and gave a beautiful quality fence without all the aggravation! Bottom line is Forge Fence company should show more professionalism, provide more competitive offers, be more respectful of their potential customer's time. I would not waste your time here and would call other companies.
Description of Work: We met with Chuck, and four other fence companies. Forge was the most expensive. When told of this they failed to lower their price for us and said they only would consider it if they saw it in writing otherwise they weren't moving their price. The project was to install approx. 500 feet of 3 split rail fence with one double gate and two single gates. ($6500)

I met with Chuck on Thursday, August 16th and after spending at least 45 minutes discussing an automated driveway gate with him, he promised an estimate on Friday, August 17th. It is now Friday, August 24th and I've heard nothing. I don't believe in chasing down a company to beg for an estimate. A customer/potential customer should be important enough for a company to NOT forget. Apparently, the company is too busy or my request must have fallen through the cracks. Glad I'm not a customer! Chuck wasted my time and I will not call them again.

He was great but we decided to wait on the fence project. It was more than we were expecting to spend even though his prices seemed reasonable for what he was going to do. He had design ideas and it would have been beautiful. If we decide to go with the fence, I will definitely use him. The price was for a 6 foot high solid wood fence to go across the property down to the road (the height would vary based on the slope of our yard).
