This was not a good experience. I called Carolina Appliance Service on 5/13/2011 to schedule service. The guy that took the call was courteous as he took my information and the model number on my microwave, I tried to give him the information on the oven and dishwasher too but he said that the service tech would just look at those other two things when he got to the house. He called me back later that day to tell me that the handle had been ordered and that it would be in around Tuesday or Wendnesday of the following week and that he would call me then to schedule a day to install it. When I asked him how much it would cost he only gave me the price for the part, not the part plus labor. A week and a half later a different guy called me, Kevin, to let me know that they had not forgotten about me and that the part was on back order. Kevin called a couple days after that to schedule the install date of 6/1/2011 between noon and 3pm. I still did not know what the price would be and I had not recieved any itemized quote or anything so after leaving messages I finally get a call back from Kevin at 11am on the day of service and he quotes me some outrageous price for everything. It sounded like he was making the prices up in his head as we were speaking especially since he had no idea of what parts would be needed for the stove or dishwasher because he had no model numbers nor had he even looked at the appliances. The entire deal felt a little too shady for my liking so I cancelled the appointment.
Description of Work: I did not allow them to perform any services because their pricing had too many gray areas. I called them to have the broken handle on my microwave replaced, to take a look at the elements on my stovetop and oven and to fix a leak on my dishwasher.

The tech arrived within the last 15 minutes of the two hour appt. window. His diagnosis was a bad magnetron and capacitor. He had to order the parts, which would take a couple of days arrive. The tech said he would need a couple of hours to fix the problem and verbally quoted $260 for all parts and labor. The tech was professional and efficient, but it was clear he was in a hurry to move on. He did not give me a written quote. I called two days later to set up a return visit. The (male) office person could not schedule the appt. and said he would leave a message for the tech. Two minutes later, the office person called back saying the cost would be $360. When I asked why it would be $100 more than quoted, he said the parts cost more. When I asked for more detail, he could not tell me why the parts cost more except that they were ?special? order and the tech did not know this. The office person seemed to take offense at my questions and copped an attitude. At this point, I told him I had agreed to $260 and that was what I was willing to pay for the repair. He responded with ?I?ll cancel the service call and I won?t even send you a bill for the trip charge.? Thus, I did not pay the company anything. Immediately after that conversation, I went to the internet, looked up the part numbers for the microwave, and then searched for pricing. Depending on the vendor, magnetron prices ranged from $140 - $175. Capacitor prices ran $ 30 - $40. Between the office person?s attitude and the part prices, I felt that this company was trying to just get an extra $100 out of me. This instinct was confirmed when a different appliance repair service (also found on Angie's List) arrived on Friday with parts in hand. The tech fixed the problem by replacing the magnetron ONLY (capacitor was working just fine) in 45 minutes. The magnetron cost $149. My total bill for parts, labor and trip charge was $233. Maybe the office person who talked with me was just having a bad day, but that conversation, his attitude, and $100 bump in price makes me question the honesty and integrity of the company. I will not call them again. If you choose to hire them, insist on a written price quote so you can avoid any unpleasant surprises when the job is done.
Description of Work: I called this company to look at a microwave, which is part of an GE oven/microwave combo built into the wall. It was running, but not heating.

You can use a after market magnetron which would be cheaper. When we deal with a combination oven microwave unit we get the part from the manufactor. The cost for the parts are alot m ore expensive. We do not want to go back in 6 months to replace it again. I understand he thought it would be cheaper. That is why I called him back to tell him it was going to be a higher price. I would rather not do the job then to do it and go back in a short while. The oven cost 2600.00 why put an after market part in. We do it correctly the first time. We did not charge him anything.

We had the dispenser tube replaced by CAS in August 2007 and because we kept the light on all the time, it became brittle and cracked again. We have learned a valuable lesson and won't keep the light on all the time or maybe switch to an LED bulb. The service was superb just as it was the first time we used this company. I used the Angie's List coupon which was nice. I was surprised to find that the tubing went from $5 to $22.11 since the last time we had this repair done. The technical charge has remained the same, however. I would use Carolina Appliance Service again. Joel was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions.

Saturday Morning we realized that our fridge was not as cold as we thought that it needed to be so we turned down the temp and waited. when on Sunday am it was still not getting colder we called CAS. Some one came out at 9am on Monday morning to look at that problem. He told me that fan was broken with in 10 seconds of being in the kitchen and honestly, 30 min later he was done and out the door. I was so pleased. The service tech. was on time, very polite, very clean and super quick. He was very nice to my 12 month old son and talked to him as he watched. We were very pleased with the work and will use them in the future.

Overall, the work was scheduled and completed in a very timely manner. The one complaint I had about the work was that after the repairman left, agitator lid came off easily and I noticed a lot of grime inside. I would have liked the repairman to mention that to me so I could have cleaned it instead of him just putting it back on as it was found. The thing that has bothered me since is the overage they charge for the parts. One part, the lid switch costs $38.00 at the supply store and they charged me $69.12 and the biggie is the agitator dogs which come in a package of 4 costs $4.02 at the supply store and they charged me $39.42. When I called to complain, the person on the phone was trying to convince me that they have a better service call deal ($89.00 flat fee) from everyone else (this hard sell was also presented to me when I originally made the call for service and I should have realized as hard as he was trying to sell the business there must be a gimmick.) So I called Metrolina Appliance after the fact and asked them their charging system and they informed me that they charge $69.00 an hour for labor and they only charge you what the parts cost them. So basically this service call cost me $145.00 plus parts (a total of $195.00) instead of the approximately $120.00 it should have cost. I felt like I was robbed?Beware. It's one thing if you know up front they are charging that much over for parts but it is another if they just hoodwink you.
Description of Work: I had already basically diagnosed the problem that the Lid Switch needed replacing due to water not draining from tub and that my agitator was sluggish due to agitator dogs needed to be replaced. I had called to check on parts pricing to see what the cost would be, thinking my husband could possibly do this but he was out of town so opted to go with a repairman.

I do not know anybody doing service work that will charge you what they paid for it. She had to misunderstand them. Metrolina charges 69.00 trip charge plus labor on top of that. How much labor did they tell her they were going to charge? If it takes them two hours to do it how much did she save? If you get your car worked on or you buy tires those company do not charge you what they paid for it. We carry 15000.00 dolaars worth of parts in our trucks that is why we can charge less then everybody else. If we charged like that we would be out of bussiness. We charge what SEARS charges for their parts but we do not charge their labor prices of 185.00 plus parts.

I was very pleased with the service I received from Carolina Appliance. They came out the same day and quickly diagnosed and repaired my oven and refrigerator. The technician did not have the part to fix my refrigerator but returned the next day and quickly put in the new water valve. He was courteous, and professional. He also called to let me know when he would be here and he was here exactly when he said he would be. I could not ask for more than that!

They always respond promptly and their technicians are always knowledgeable. They always have spare parts in the trucks so they can usually can repair things right away and not have to order the parts and come back to do the repair. Their pricing is a bit higher but that is usually because they can come out the same day.

I was in the process of doing laundry @ 7:30 AM when my washing machine began to make a very loud sound and upon inspection I noticed the agitator was moving as if in slow motion. I went on-line and did some research to identify possible causes and 20 minutes later determined that this was going to be a situation where a repairman would be needed. A review of Angie's List id'd Carolina Appliance as a likely candidate based upon grades and proximity to my home. I made the call @ 7:50 AM and by 9:00 AM Bob had arrived. Quck inspection of the damages followed by grabbing of a part from the truck and the machine was running again within 15 minutes. I was very pleased with the response time and ease of doing business.

Fast, efficient, polite service. I think that $140 is a bit steep for replacing a wire, but that is due to the service call fee of $99 before the part. I'd have been more comfortable with a bit lower price but they are always spot on with their service.

My wife called for washing machine repairs. The woman who answered the phone was on a cell phone running a personal errand. We were promised that a repairman would be call us between 8-9am the next morning. When that appointment was missed, we had to call back twice to get a response. They finally called back when we had an repairman from another company already finishing up the job.

Called company on Saturday morning because their information on your website said they worked 9AM-3PM on Saturdays. They arrived on time and replaced my "Computer Board" which they said was faulty. Several hours later, I noticed that the refrigerator/freezer was still not cooling. I called them at 2PM knowing that they stopped working at 3, and I wanted to be able to have them return before they quit for the day (and the weekend). I was told that the repair-person who performed my "repairs" had already left, but that sometimes it took "awhile" for the system to cool back down after replacing the Computer Board. They took my number, and told me they would call back on Monday morning to see how things were. Needless to say, they weren't good because now all the food in my freezer had melted over Saturday and Sunday. They returned on Monday, and again replaced the Computer Board (the one they installed the previous Saturday was faulty), and things started working-- but 48 hours too late. No apology-- no nothing. I wouldn't have been so disappointed if they had not posted their hours as 9A-3P! That's the main reason I called them---- and then they couldn't/wouldn't respond to a repeat call at 2:PM.

The whole process from start to finish was over in about 30 minutes. The technician was very professional and thorough. I would definite use them again.
