They were very thorough in moving things at both ends. There were a few things broken and a couple of bed frames that were cracked. I have not yet finished opening all the boxes and so I have not made any claims.

Move went very well. They came when they said they would, packed the contents of the house and moved everything to Charlotte, NC, some to the apartment and some to a storage unit within 5 miles of the apartment. The move went smoothly, they were courteous and professional, and there was very little damage. The only minor issue was in getting the claim for some damaged lamp shades processed. I had to follow up several times to get it completed.

Nothing outstanding but they did everything they were supposed to do. They moved me about 40 miles. I compared the price and it was pretty fair. They were very careful with everything and didn't scratch anything at all. They were a little late but they did call and let me know they were running behind.

The owner works with the moving crew, he is in the job. They were being used by the people moving out of home. This was a surprise, but worked out great because the movers new not damage the floors and were familiar with the area and situation. I would certainly use them again. Excellent company.

I cannot say enough about the quality of the workers. They all had great attitudes & obviously enjoyed working together. They were all pleasant & hard working & got the job done in a reasonable amount of time. During our move, we got a torrential rain, complete with hail, & we had to stop moving items to the house from the truck. Instead of taking a break, the movers helped us put things away in the garage & kept busy the whole time. The workers were cheerful, polite, & never loafed. We would most definitely use this company again.!
Description of Work: Moved from a 2 story, 3 bedroom 2.5 bath home to a 2 story, 4 bedroom 2.5 bath home 30 miles away. They also stopped at a storage facility on the way & picked up some items we had in storage.

Overall the 2 movers were professional, friendly and did an excellent job. I was disappointed in the final charge however. Since it was such a small job Rob Sullivan agreed to charge me $240 if the job took less than 1 1/2hrs. The movers clocked the job at 1 1/2hrs, however I was billed the $270 full price since technically the job was not done in "under" 1 1/2hrs. I tipped the workers extra (they deserved it) since I felt I had gotten a good deal. I called to discuss this with Rob but he has yet to return my message. I truly believe I am correct here I deserve the break - the potential goodwill shown by "Act of Class" could've led to a fantastic review, recommendations to all my friends and future business. It's not even about the money, I just feel I have been mislead. Be sure to get all quotes in writing, specifically any "deals" that are offered with cutoff times.
Description of Work: 2 movers loaded 1 sleigh bed, 1 dresser and 1 end table and transported the items about a 4 mile distance to my home and unloaded them at my residence. Both moves were from second floor to second floor, 1 flight of steps each. Costs were $90/hr for 2 movers plus a standard $90 travel charge plus tips.

Act of Class was a great company to work with. They were on time which was wonderful. The movers are very professional and friendly. Several members of my family have used these movers and been very pleased. They did not break anything and were willing to move things around once we got to the new house. They work by the hour but they worked quickly and did not waste time. They come out and do an estimate which is nice although the cost was much less than the estimate because they estimated 6 hours. However, I was happy to pay less!

The guys they sent were very nice, polite and helpful. They did damage a table which they said would be repaired by the shop, but we have not heard from anyone yet. What really griped me is that once the job was completed, the head mover produced a contract showing our balance was in the $1100. range. We had to sign to authorize a charge to our credit card in that amount. However, by chance I was looking for a transaction on my Visa account and saw Act of Class actually billed my card $1,515. which was not the authorized amount. In looking at Angie's List reports I see they have overcharged other Angie's List customers without their authorization; so beware!!! I have reported them to VISA. The grades I give on this report are not reflective of the individuals who did the actual move; however, they are reflective of the company itself.

THANK YOU FOR THE FEED BACK. IN OUR DEFENSE, ALL BILL OF LADINGS ARE STAMPED "ALL INVOICES WILL BE AUDITED ONCE REVIEWED BY OFFICE" AND THE DRIVER MISCALCULATED THE TOTAL OF HOURS AND CHARGES. THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN THE PAPERWORK WAS BROUGHT TO THE OFFICE AND CONTACT WAS MADE WITH THE SHIPPER GOING OVER ALL OF TEH CHARGES AND EXPLAINED HOW THE ERRORS IN CALCULATIONS WERE MADE. WE DO NOT EVER OVERCHARGE SHIPPERS OR EXPECT TO BE PAID FOR SERVICES THAT WERE NOT RENDERED, HOWEVER, WE DO EXPECT PAYMENT FOR SERVICES RENDERED EVEN IF TEHRE WAS AN ERROR IN CALCULATION IN THE ORIGINAL SETTLEMENT. AGAIN, AUDITS ARE DONE IN THE OFFICE POST MOVE. WE REGRET THAT YOU WERE UNSATISFIED AND APOLOGIZE FOR ALL INCONVENIENCES.

Let me start by saying everyone was a pleasure to work with, however, our move was a nightmare. They promised to wrap everything and wrap door frames in order to take care of our furniture. This is why we chose them. This did not happen. The guys ran out of pads when the truck was not halfway loaded. We have a number of pieces of furniture all solid wood and stained cherry that were damaged with large chips of wood taken out, including two sleigh beds, a china cupboard, entertainment center, coffee table, bureaus and much more. They left our old house without actually getting all of our belongings. We had to take a few extra loads after the move was over. They dropped a quilt rack out of the truck and broke it. They punctured the water line and dented our stainless steel fridge, and we had a flood of water all over our new kitchen. My daughter's crib was reassembled improperly and has gouges in it. They took chunks out of door frames and walls in our new home.
Description of Work: Act of Class moved all of our furniture a total distance of about five miles and supplied boxes for the move. They did not move clothing, wall hangings or lawn equipment. They also took care of hiring someone to reassemble our pool table that we had already disassembled. We reserved an initial move date, and our closing fell through, so we had to postpone the move four days at the last minute. They did not penalize us our security deposit. The guys were courteous but did a poor job and damaged the majority of our furniture as well as damaging walls and doorways. The supervisor that checked us out gave us a receipt for approximately $300 less than what they charged us. Rob was able to repair some items but not everything, and nothing looks like it did before our move, which is extremely disappointing. Although everyone was very nice, the bottom line is we hired them to carefully and safely move our furniture, and it didn't happen.

PLEASE DO NOT THINK THAT WE HAVE TAKEN ANY OF THESE COMPLAINTS LIGHTLY. REST ASSURED THAT ALL PARTIES INVOLVED HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED BY ALL OF THESE MATTERS AND ALL APPROPRIATE MEASURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO PREVENT ANYTHING LIKE THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. AGAIN, WE APOLOGIZE FOR ALL INCONVENIENCES AND HARDSHIPS ENCOUNTERED IN YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH OUR COMPANY. WE WOULD LOVE AN OPPORTUNITY IN THE FUTURE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH AN ACTUAL MOVE THAT IS AN 'ACT OF CLASS' AND WE ARE WILLING TO GO THE DISTANCE TO WIN BACK YOUR BUSINESS AND SHOW YOU WHAT A PROFESSIONAL MOVING COMPANY SUCH AS OURS STRIVES TO BE EVERYDAY. The owner that completed the estimate was very informative and really did a great job of selling their services. Unfortunately I should have followed my sister's lead, who opted not to use them for her move. Even though this was only a 3 hr. job, the movers who arrived @ 9am decided they needed to take lunch right @ 11am. They took a 1.5 hr. lunch and then the other owner expected me to pay for 1 hr. of travel time when it should have only taken them 10 min. to arrive at their destination. There were 3 movers but only 1 seemed to realize he was on a job while the other 2 stood out by the truck and chatted. I had to ask them several times to turn do their music. there was a huge dispute about my bill, considering that I got so mad that I started to help them move and unwrap my stuff. I should have gotten paid for doing their job. This was crappy service, and as I told them, "Really bad business". I would rather carry my belongings on foot before I would ever use their services again.
Description of Work: The was a 3 hr. job to move several large pieces for furniture from one home to another. The homes were approximately 2 miles apart (if that much) which equated to a 5-10 min. drive. This job was scheduled in March 2007. Sounds really simply right? Well it turned out to be a nightmare and a headache that I simply could have done without.

It was the worst move I have ever had and I have moved many times. They overcharged me on the time they spent moving and the travel time. They would not move items at the second location because they were not noted on the paper work. They did not know about rearranging items at the final location because again it was not on their paper work. I am 8 months pregnant and they were very uncooperative and not helpful in the least bit. I finally had to call the main office to get them to move the items at the last location. I put a stop payment on my deposit because of being overcharged and they turned our account over to a credit agency. We were then forced to have to pay the balance they say was due in order to resolve it with them. They have terrible customer service skills, and Andrea Sullivan in particular was one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with in my life. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: The movers were to move items at two different locations to a final destination. They moved the items at the first location, did not move items at the second location and delivered them to the third location.

Act of Class provided the most realistic quote in terms of trucks/men/hours AND they were the lowest quote. (Honesty AND Fairness -- pretty tough to find these days!) The other companies' quotes were much higher for fewer man-hours and only 1 truck. Act of Class was the only company even willing to consider 2 trucks. On moving day, there was a miscommunication, but they corrected it quickly and without hassle. With one truck at each location, this crew of 5 guys had us loaded by lunch and then everything in place at our new home by dinner!! Watching these guys work was impressive! It was pretty obvious that these guys do this for a living and weren't hired out of a hardware store parking lot. They were all very respectful and careful with our furniture and our new home. When they were done, the bill PLUS a generous tip was still less than the original estimate! I don't plan to move again anytime soon, but if did, Act of Class would be my first and only call.
Description of Work: I moved from a large 3 Bedroom apartment AND 2 10x10 storage rooms to our new home approximately 30 miles away. (We had previously moved from a 4 bedroom home into the apartment until construction was completed on our new house.) I had 4 companies provide estimates for our move.

Move was not smooth. Size of truck was underestimated, moving was delayed so that extra truck could be found, on the move out, they were understaffed. On the move back in, three of the guys didn't know what they were doing and cracked the face of our washing machine, damaged furniture, and walls and doors. They would put boxes that were clearly marked "this side up" and electronics, upside down in the bottom of a stack. Both the owner and some of the movers constantly hinted about getting tips (cash only). We thought it was extremely unprofessional and would not recommend these movers to other Angie's List members.

WE'VE CHECKED OUR FILES AND HAVE FOUND NO CLAIM REPORT AND/OR ANY DISCREPANCY ON THE BILL OF LADING STATING ANY OF THESE STATEMENTS TO BE TRUE. THIS MOVE WAS DONE IN AUGUST OF 2006 AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY PHONE CALLS OR GUYS MENTION ANY OF THE ABOVE-REFERENCED STATEMENTS AND TO THIS DAY HAVE NOT HEARD FROM MEMBER. FYI: THE OWNERS @ ACT OF CLASS DON'T HANDLE ANY OF THE MOVEMENT OF FURNITURE THAT'S WHY WE HAVE EMPLOYEES. Office staff was very helpful and friendly. Out of 5 companies I called, only 2 were willing to do an internal move (about 30-40 minutes of work) without charging me a 3 hour minimum. Although another company was slightly cheaper, I felt more comfortable with Act of Class. Movers arrived on time, were friendly and professional. On the day they came to move the furniture back, it was snowing, so they were a little late, but they called the night before to let me know that was a possibility, so that was no problem. My only complaint was that after they did the work on the first day, they wouldn't accept a check and wanted cash. This was inconvenient, especially since no one from the office had told me that I would be expected to pay in cash. As for overall price, I feel like I had to pay too much considering the small amount of work that was to be done, but Act of Class's price was only slightly more expensive than another company, and was much cheaper than many others I called.
Description of Work: An internal move: moved furniture from several rooms to other areas of the house (we were having our hardwood floors refinished) and then back again about a week later.

THEY ARRIVED APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES LATE, BUT THEY DID CALL TO LET ME KNOW THEY WERE RUNNING LATE. THEY HIT A U HAUL TRUCK THAT WE RENTED WITH THEIR TRUCK BECAUSE THEIR BRAKES WENT OUT ON THEIR TRUCK. THEY BROKE AN ANTIQUE ROCKING CHAIR THAT THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO REPAIR AND BRING BACK AND THEY DAMAGED MY GRANDFATHER CLOCK, BUT THEY WILL NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALLS, AND HAVEN'T RETURNED MY ROCKING CHAIR OR PAID FOR ANY OF THE DAMAGE THAT THEY DID. THEY DAMAGED MY HOUSE I WAS MOVING INTO AND THE ONE THAT I HAD SOLD AND WAS RENTING BACK FOR THE DAY. THEY OVER CHARGED ME FOR THE WORK PERFORMED AND CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I WAS WILLING TO PAY THEM FOR THE 4 HOURS THEY WORKED AND ONE HOUR OF TRAVEL TIME, BUT THEY WERE DISHONEST ABOUT HOW LONG THEY WORKED AND CHARGED ME FOR INSURANCE THAT THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE. I HAVE LEFT MESSAGES REQUESTING THAT MY ROCKING CHAIR BE RETURNED BUT NO REPLY AND HAD TO GET MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY TO CORRECT ACT OF CLASSES UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES.
Description of Work: In response to the false allegations that have been written about me by Mr. Steve Sullivan, that they have not been paid for the so-called move, I have proof that Mr. Sullivan and Act of Class have been paid in full by my credit card company and I have the statements to back up that fact. Also, Mr. Sullivan does not have "my" initials on any Bill of Lading, because "I" did not sign anything such as a Bill of Lading because I disagreed with what his employees had written down and asked for Mr. Sullivan to call so that we may discuss the bill and the damages, but he never did. Also, my family and I were in Disneyworld in middle to late July, and the so-called move took place April 27th. If they indeed called me while I was in Disneyworld about my rocking chair, it definitely was not a week after the move. Perhaps Mr. Sullivan needs to learn how to count, because that is almost three months later not one week since the move.

Response from ACT OF CLASS RELOCATION INC
We arrived late in prime season, but did call. Being late put us in a rush to get the job done for the cust. & we forgot to put the truck in gear. It rolled back into the Uhaul. The walkboards met & I went to look @ the job & no damage was done to either truck. The collision caused damage to a chair. I had the chair fixed a week after the move. We called to let her know the chair was ready & she stated she was @ Disney World & would call us when she returned. That's the last we heard from her until now. We went through arbitration through NCUC & no mention of a clock or floor damage. As for the billing, she initialed the B.O.L. stating she would be required to pay charges shown on the contract. We charged the same card used for her deposit. We disc. the B.O.L. 1 hour to try & compensate for being late. When I went out to the home 1 of my guys & I moved things free of charge & she has made no payment for her move at all. She owes for the job before we do anything else for her. As for as being dishonest, she is the one being dishonest. We've made every attempt to resolve this situation & gone above & beyond considering she's not even paid for the move. We back our statement & our work. We do accept responsibility for our part, but she has added things not mentioned when I came to her home or during arbitration & we feel there is nothing else we can do. She needs to accept he part of responsibility & pay for services she received.

Once again, Act of Class did an excellent job! This is the second time I've used them. They showed up on time. All 4 guys worked very hard and only took about a 15 minute break for lunch. They were very careful with all of our belongings and did not break anything. They were within their original estimate. I would highly recommend Act of Class for your next move. They are very professional, honest, and hardworking.
Description of Work: The company moved us from a 3-story, 3 bedroom townhome to our new 2-story home. They used 4 men and took approximately 6.5 hours.
