Years of rains and blocked water exits (as well as a broken sump pump) damaged the basement and house foundation. Tony came by and had a look at all the drainage systems, the foundation, and looked at the dampness of the basement. This was important to us as we have an infant and when we pulled down one of the walls saw black mold and mildew, it was time to call in an expert. Tony had a list of things for us to have him do, do ourselves, or have someone else fix; but we ultimately decided to go with him. When mentioning Angie's List he even gave us a 5% discount on the work! When Tony came in to replace the sump pump and fog the basement, he was with Chris, and while Chris fogged the basement Tony helped rebuild on of our gutter drains and checked the drain system it dumped into free of charge. He continued to offer suggestions on where we should go next with our repairs and renovations and showed me exactly what he was talking about and how we could do some of the work ourselves to save money. He didn't try to add on anything and kept to his "I am offering these suggestions, you can let me help you or you can do on your own" stance. Loved it! Looking at remaining suggestions, plus our personal fixes, I will definitely go back to get some of the tougher stuff completed by someone as professional as Tony.

From start to finish it went perfect. Tony kept me well informed as to what he was doing and he did only what he said he would do. He saved me money by giving me options to something that I wanted to do and he didn't suggest any unneeded work. I actually had him come back and do another job (ECO system) before I could get this review written. He and his crew kept my basement clean the entire way. One day it was raining and my basement was still clean when they finished. I really couldn't speak on the price because I didn't call anyone else. I called him based on all the positive reviews from Angie's List and they proved to be most helpful. Tony is extremely pleasant to work with and very helpful. I would hire him again!
Description of Work: Installed a french drain in my basement, put up a vapor barrier, put in 5 steel beams where the walls were cracking and installed an ECO system.

The work went as planned and the team was on time, cleaned up and very courteous. I would recommend Soggy Bottom to my friends.
Description of Work: They added 3 support beams in the basement, treated a damp area in the basement and added 4 new drains to existing down spouts to push the water further away from the house. We have had heavy rain since then and my basement is completely dry!!

Tony crawled my entire crawlspace area (very uninviting area to be crawling). He assessed the drainage around the back and side of house. He had some recommendations, etc. He found some mold spores in several places which could develop into mold. He advised how to improve the ventilation, etc. I did not act on any recommendations but I was very pleased with his inspection and advice. When I'm ready to do some of the things Tony suggested I will certainly contact him to do the work. I will remember him for other problems or situations that may arise.

Exactly as it was explained and promptly. The 1947 built cinder block concrete floored basement is dry. The sump pump working without fail and very quietly. Pooling of water in the front and back yards has ceased to be a problem. Others who came and submitted bids for the job were as high as four times the price we paid for Tony Ferguson (Soggy Bottom) to rid the house of its poor water handling problems. The only change I would make would be to the material applied to the cinder block walls of the basement interior. We would most likely have selected a rigid material, more suitable for painting. The waterproofing material covering the two interior affected walls of the cinder block basement is similar to the consistency of a tarp making it not suitable for painting. If a tear should come to the tarp weight material it will be a challenge as the base of the wall covering is cemented into the floor.
Description of Work: Waterproofed the basement of a house built in 1947. Tony Ferguson installed an "in the cement floor" drain system along the walls that were the source of the water problem. He stabalized a cracked foundation wall with H beams installed from floor to ceiling and placed waterproofing plastic on the walls for directing any water that might enter the walls to run down to the drain system leading to an installed sump pump expelling the water to underground pipes leading away from the house. He also altered the grade of the front yard increasing the grade as it came in contact with the house. The grade was sloping toward the house and now is sloped away from the front foundation of the house (the location of the water entering the basement walls). Tony Ferguson also recommended all the downspouts be replaced to standard 4 inch downspouts. The down spout replacements were installed by a roofing company. Tony Ferguson then installed new round PVC pipe for directing the water from the downspouts away from the house. Tony removed all the landscaping from the affected front area of the house foundation, applied waterproofing material along the affected length of the foundation, increased the grade of the soil when it was returned to the area and replanted all the landscaping removed for the waterproofing project. To install the drain system in the basement concrete floor he had to open the floor and he applied new cement to cover the drain system when completed. Tony Ferguson also routed the condensation from the air conditioner to the floor drain system. As the summer season in North Carolina has had record rainfall the 1947 built basement has been dry for the first rainy season in 20+ years of our family's ownership. Prior to Tony Ferguson (Soggy Bottom Waterproofing) addressing the issue with a solution, a heavy rain would result in 1 to 3 inches of standing water in the basement with nor floor drain for releasing the water. We are delighted with his solution, his professionalism, and commitment to completing all aspects of the job as were recommended and agreed upon.

He came on time and on the day agreed, very knowledgeable and polite. Our basement had flooded from the garage because the rainwater drainpipe had backed up and water pooled in the driveway, we needed a solution to prevent that from happening again, he gave us his solution and his estimate in a timely manner. Although we did not choose him for this particular job, if we decide to waterproof our basement, I will call him for an estimate and possibly hire him for that.
Description of Work: Gave estimate to dig up yard and replace rainwater drainpipe with larger more efficient pipe and re-route front gutter through brick retaining wall to properly drain rainwater away from property and prevent basement flooding.

The work crew was polite, courteous, efficient and effective. I sat about 12 feet away from them during the whole day-long project (we all took a break for lunch) and watched them every step of the way. We had used Soggy Bottom a few months earlier to install a sump pump and drain system inside the crawlspace of our home and we were familiar with the quality of their work and had complete trust that they would again do an excellent job. They did. I have nothing but good things to say about them, and their prices were much lower than some of their competitors. Both drain systems that they have done for us have worked fine and have given no trouble. The outdoor one, in front of the garage door, has been especially welcome because it solved a potential problem during heavy rain storms, by preventing rain from entering the garage and basement of our house during very heavy rain storms. There was already a drain in the driveway leading to the garage, but during very heavy storms it could not handle all the water by itself and we had to constantly check that drain for leaves, twigs, pine needles, etc. so it would not be blocked and thus cause water from the downward-sloping driveway to back up and start going into the garage. The floor of our garage has no drain inside the garage and the same is true of our basement (the finished part, not the crawlspace).....the previous owner of our home told us she had been flooded twice with up to 8 inches of water during heavy storms, so the new outside-the-garage-door drain put in by SoggyBottom has taken a great worry off our minds and functions just fine. Bravo!
Description of Work: in front of our single-car garage overhead door, Soggy Bottom removed non-functional steel grid drain; they then dug a trench where the grid had been (the full width of the overhead door) and deepened the trench so it could hold a heavy-duty plastic trough which had a perforated (slotted) cover. This trough and the trench were slanted downhill towards one end of the garage where there was already a functioning gutter downspout connected to a buried 4-inch plastic drain pipe that went out to the storm drain at the street. The crew connected the new drain trough to the existing drain line to the street, sealing all connections; Then the trough was cemented in place with ready-mix concrete. The finished appearance was neat and clean in all respects.

I have a mold problem, part of which may be from ground water. Tony provided me considerable time on the telephone helping me understand what he could do for us and also explained that I needed a mold remediation company first. He was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. Once I deal with the major mold issue I plan to call him in to see what has to happen next.

Could not have picked a better contractor. Tony came out and we discussed how to fix this problem. When we built this house in 1977 we discovered the lot used to have a stream running through it. We built back away and found solid ground and had no water problems until this past Christmas. Had to use shop vac to suck up the water off and on. Finally I knew I had to call in a professional and solve our problem. Soggy Bottom Waterproofing was the highest rating firm according to Angies List. Tony came out and saw where the water was coming into the crawl space. He dug down below the foundation re-waterproofed, laid a French drain, clean stone and plastic covering the entire crawl space along the wall separating the crawl space from the finished area. He then installed a sump pump to stop any water that seeped in the crawl space. In less than 24 hrs my basement floors where dry .They were extremely professional and did an excellent job.

He was great. He came for an estimate on a foundation leak two days ago on short notice. He assessed the problem and then explained to me how to patch it myself and save money. I showed him an issue with mold in the other room and he arrived on time this morning to spray the area to kill mold. He was in and out incredibly fast and was a pleasure to speak with.

It went very well. Tony and his crew showed up bright and early on day one ready to get to it. They decided that they would dig by hand since there was no access for any kind of power equipment. This involved digging a trench across the entire front of the house (41 feet) as well as an additional 10 feet or so down the south side of the house. I estimate the average depth of the trench was around 9 feet or so. They then poured a false concrete footer to use as the base for the repair. After that came the application of the sealant, membrane and foam board. They laid in a 4 inch PVC French drain to carry the water away from the house and off to the property edge and covered that with compacted #5 stone. Finally refilling the trench with the excavated earth. Sounds good right? And it was exactly what he said he would do, however, there's more. In addition to the promised work, Soggy Bottoms also - 1. tied our gutter drains into the French drain that would carry water away from the house, 2. used the excess concrete from the false footer to secure a drain that had been installed by a previous contractor since the heavy rains were eroding the soil around it, 3. removed a poorly placed shrub ,which was not necessarily in his way, but one that we expressed a desire to get rid of, 4. used the left over #5 stone to level off the transition from the end of our driveway to our side gate in the area of his dig on the south side of the house and finally 5. he restored the grade in front of the house and applied a cover of mulch to make it all look extremely nice. Now don't get me wrong, Tony doesn't throw in a whole bunch of freebies just to impress. What he does do is he goes that extra mile to provide a professional finish to the task at hand and makes very good use of the materials left over from the promised repair, which, is more than fair in my book. I apologize for taking so long to complete this review but please know - Tony and the Soggy Bottoms crew performed in a truly professional and capable manner. They completed the job on time with no additional costs, they were pleasant to deal with and willing to explain to us what was being done at any step in the process. We would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: We had a serious water problem in the lower level of our home. It was entering in a corner of what is basically a storage area but we feared it would spread to the living area. Tony inspected the area and proposed two solutions - 1. an interior solution involving a sump pump or 2. an exterior solution using concrete, two coats of rubber sealant, two layers of membrane and protective foam board. Tony opted for the exterior solution and he outlined it in his detailed estimate. The result was the elimination of our water problem.

I obtained 5 quotes for the job including one from Tony with Soggy Bottom Waterproofing. Tony was the most economical and was very responsive to our needs. I called Tony several times after receiving his quote with follow questions and he answered all my question in a timely manner. I decided to go with Soggy Bottom Waterproofing after meeting with several companies and could not be more pleased with my decision. Tony and his crew were very proffesional, timely and went out of their way to make sure I was happy with the job. Had the first rain last night since the job was done and I have a dry crawl space. Could not be happier!

Soggy Bottom Waterproofing was fine. It's just a little pricey but I may still do it. I think the guy knows what he's talking about, he knows what he's doing. I haven't personally seen any of his work but I do know a little about the subject and his recommendation made a lot of sense. I called him up, he came over, looked things over and he gave me a written estimate. He's just a smart guy. He sized-up the situation and I think he was thorough in looking what was needed to be done and he made a reasonable recommendation. He didn't try and sell me a bill of goods.

Tony Ferguson came out and gave us an estimate in January. He explained exactly what we would need to do to keep our crawl space dry. When we called back on March 28th to arrange the time to do it, he set up a time the following week but actually worked us in even earlier than originally planned - right before some big rains! I was impressed that he saw things that the other two (more expensive) companies did not see when he originally came out. He channeled the water from the gutters away from the house so that we wouldn't have as much water coming in underneath. He also installed a french drain system and a sump pump. The work was completed in about a day and a half. The two men he had working with him wasted no time getting the job done. I am very impressed and wouldn't hesitate to deal with Tony again. He was pleasant and explained everything that he was doing.

Very good experience. I was getting estimates for fixing a water problem in my mom's basement. We had several companies look at the site and provide estimates, but Tony from Soggy Bottom was the only person who suggested that the leak could be from the roof and not the ground and actually went up into the attic to check for leaks in the roof. Tony was very professional and came out to give an estimate within a day of us contacting him. My mom was impressed with his detailed explanation of the work to be done and with the price provided. I could not be at the house when Tony arrived, so he took the time to call me and speak to me about what he found at my mom's house and his recommended solution. The team arrived on time and completed the work on time. They cleaned the debris in the basement and there was no mess left in the house. Tony came back a day or two later to check the work and to follow up with my mom. My mom was very impressed with Tony and with the whole experience. We have been very pleased with the work done and would use Soggy Bottom Waterproofing again.

His crew arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled work appointment, and completed the job in about half the time I had anticipated. I was impressed with the care they devoted to minimizing the disturbance (trenching) to my yard. They walked me through the locations where the new drainlines would be installed, asking for my approval of the planned work. The trenches were filled enough to allow settling of the dirt, seeded with grass (fescue) then covered with straw. Before leaving, they did another walk-around to verify that all clean-up work met their standards. The work performed was exactly as described to me. After a couple of rain storms which would have caused water to enter my basement before they replaced the drainlines, and my basement remained completely dry.
