we were told by dotson that we just needed to replace our entire gas water heating system because "it was old" and there were "no parts for it anymore" and that he had a great deal on a tankless system (but just one left). he left some brochures to some tankless systems (but not the brand that he was offering to us) at a BIG discount. He called several times to see if when he could put in the system all the while leaving us with cold water and not doing anything to our current water heater. I tried to get a little more information about the unit he was going to install something just basic like the model number so i could compare cost on the internet. He became very defensive but reluctantly gave me the tankless system model number and kept on the high pressure sales tactics. I really feel sorry for elderly people who might just fall for this crap and hope folks take note. I eventually got a second opinion from baretech heating/plumbing who simply replaced a gas valve and cleaned our burner for $330 on the same day they came evaluate. If we had gone with dotson we'd have been out several thousand dollars and a bad deal. Just watch out don't be scammed by this company. Make sure you have all your questions answered preferably in writing. If he tries to unload some special 1 time limited deal on you I'd really take precautions.

Description of Work: Called in March 2013 wanting to have a water softner installed. No quote was needed! Called around lunch time, the person who took my call was not even in the office was "running errands". Never asked for my phone number for a callback. Was told she had the number that was displayed on her phone. Got the impression the receptionist really could have cared less. Needless to say, never got a callback. By the way the water softner was installed by another plumbing company for $125.00. No quote was needed.

I was directed to Dotson by my home warranty company. After reading past reviews I was a little nervous about using them. Spoke to Callie in office and explained my problem. She rearranged her schedule to accomodate me. David showed up and took charge of the problem. He snaked out a plugged drain pipe from the basement to the kitchen and he offered helpful advise about our spetic tank which we have taken based on what he said. I am very pleased with them and would not hesitate to used them again. From start to finish the problem was resolved in a timely, professional manner.
Description of Work: Cleared drain pipe from basement to kitchen sink which was backing up.

My home warranty company, 2-10 Home Warranty, sent these folks out to my house for a clogged drain from the kitchen sink. I was leaving for D.C. on a Friday when this problem occurred. The lady on the phone assured me the problem would be taken care of and told me to enjoy my vacation and they would call if they needed anything. So I received no calls over the weekend in D.C. and figured the problem would be fixed upon my return, as Dotson Plumbing had promised. To my dismay, there was no work done on my house, which they had access to the entire weekend. So I called them on Monday to see what was going on. They told me that they sent a plumber out to snake the drain, but he couldn't get it unclogged with the snake. Upon speaking to my tenants who rent that portion of my home, I found out that they only tried to snake from the sink drain, and not from the full accessible drain pipes in the basement. The plumber who responded, David, was poorly dressed, not very well spoken, and didn't seem to know Jack about plumbing. All he kept telling me is what he couldn't do, rather than how to solve my problem. I was there with him to show him the access to the plumbing from the basement. This man was so out of shape that he couldn't lift the snake up to ceiling level to snake the drain pipes in the basement. so I had to lift this 40lb peice of equipment up to the ceiling level and crawl in the ceiling space with it to get it aligned for the snake operation. While performing the snaking, this genius broke off one of my drain pipes in the wall. Granted these are older pipes, but this is all under the home warranty, so no worries right? WRONG!!! The plumber constantly was calling 2-10 home warranty to see what he could or could not perform to solve my problem. After he broke the pipe, he took off for 3 hours, leaving my basement a mess with broken piping and drain sludge everywhere. This looked and smelled horendous! When he finally came back to the house, he stated there was nothing he could do because they would not cut access to the pipes behind the walls. I told him that he broke it, so he should fix it. This did not happen. The plumber, David, left my house in a complete mess (I will post pics), didn't finish the job, and this cost me $200. In addition, I did most of the work for his sorry a**. I was so fed up with the home warranty company and the plumber, that I just took a day off work and performed the repairs myself. This included cutting out the wall behind my kitchen cabinets, replacing old metal drain lines with new PVC, and securing a loose vent pipe in the attic. All very simple stuff for a professional plumber. In the end, my efforts resulted in the job being completed in 4 hours, leak fixed, and everything cleaned up. I wouldn't trust this plumbing company to do my dishes. They are unprofessional in their business practices and their employees are just shy of retarded. There is no way in h*** these folks will ever work on my house again and I would steer clear of these idiots if you have a choice. Never been so disappointed in all my life. The really hilarious thing was that the plumber they sent out said they charge a flat fee of $50 per hour, or somewhere close to that. I have an MBA and a bachelors in business, work full time, and I still don't get paid that much. I have no idea what these companies are thinking when they are pricing their services. I wouldn't have paid them a dime if I had the choice, but I had to pay the home warranty service fee up front. Thoroughly disappointed with these worthless plumbers!!! Terrible would be an understatement...
Description of Work: Fix a clogged kitchen drain in the rental side of my home, which I had to perform because these folks are so incompetent.

2-10 Home warranty company REQUIRES a "ground level clean out access" for us to rooter the line.Sounds like the tech went overboard to help you to me.I am sorry he wasn't dressed well enough to do a sewage job for you. He has been in the rooter business 20 + years btw.We CANNOT do anything without the home warranty companies permission.Sounds like you are mad at them to me...Don't take it out on us

I submitted a request for service through my home warranty company on Sunday (10/23) when I discovered that a drain pipe was backing up and flooding my basement any time I ran my kitchen sink, clothes washer, or dishwasher. Sunday afternoon, I received confirmation from the home warranty company that Dotson Plumbing would be assigned to my service request. While this was an emergency to me, I knew it was Sunday, so I decided to try and work on snaking the drain myself but ultimately sit tight until Monday morning to hear from Dotson Plumbing. Monday rolled around, and I was hopeful that I would hear from Dotson first thing in the morning so that my situation could be addressed that day -- after all, plumbers that I've worked with in the past, even through the warranty company, have always been quick to respond to leaks and flooding situations. I didn't receive a phone call until shortly after noon, and my relief quickly turned to disappointment when the woman on the line told me my appointment would have to wait until the next day. In other words, I couldn't wash dishes or laundry, my basement was sopping wet, and I still had to wait another 24+ hours for service -- not very helpful if you ask me. But I held back my protest, scheduled an appointment for between 1 and 3 pm Tuesday, and decided to order pizza for dinner since cooking was out of the question. So now it's Tuesday, my house reeks of stagnant waste water, and my full-but-unusable dishwasher is starting to smell bad too. I've been telling myself that this will all be over soon, that someone will come save the day, but that doesn't seem to be happening. My appointment time has come and gone, and my plumber in shining armor is nowhere to be found or heard from. I'm starting to wonder whether I should stick this one out (because, let's face it, I'll save a LOT of money by going through this home warranty), or give another, more responsive company my money. Either way, I will be recommending that my warranty company look elsewhere for its plumbing services.
Description of Work: No service was performed because the plumber failed to show up.

The Warranty company Requires that we start a job 48 hours after recieving a work order and 24 hours on a emergency call BUSINESS hours.Alot of time I agree with you that they should make it a emergency call but don't want to pay the extra to us "Priority Status".So we are stuck.Sounds like your mad at your warranty company but we aren't the warrantry co....we are TOLD what to do by them. I am sorry you were not treated right.

We have a home warranty and this company was scheduled to investigate the leak. Regrettably, the warranty only covered damage done by the leak. No dame was sufficient to be covered by the warranty. We proceeded to allow the company on site to do the work in the interest of stopping further waste of water and possible future damage to the foundation. The leak was fixed and we are back to normal except for the leveling and reseeding required through our front your and removing the damaged scrubs that cannot be saved. Joy.
Description of Work: The main water line form the meter at the street termination under our house had developed a leak near the foundation. The pipe used in the original installation was of a brittle, plastic nature and after 23 years it failed. The plumbing company recommended that a completely new line of better quality be installed to replace the old line. We concurred. The work was done in a rather reasonable time-frame but I believe that a lower price could have been found through a different provider based upon follow-up conversations with other plumbers. Shame on me for not doing that research earlier. Well, live and learn. Overall, I would not recommend this company to do major plumbing work for you - A) attention to cosmetic detail.and B) Price.
