John has done a number of projects for us. He completed all his tasks ahead of time with outstanding results. John is punctual, precise, and detail-oriented. He thoroughly explains what he is planning to do, and then he fulfills his promises. John is a professional who can be trusted to do the work the right way the first time.

John is the best! I think he loves the challenge of doing a job right and will not stop till he figures out what that takes. We had old and rotted windows and door leak issues on a 27-year-old house -- John figured out the best way to replace and repair them, and then got everything installed and repaired perfectly. Second time we have worked with John, and we would go to him first for any subsequent work. Very highly recommended.

We met with the owner. He stated that we should get a quote in a week. After numerous attempts over 6 weeks we have not heard back from him. Extremely disappointing!

John took a moldy, decrepit, falling-apart workshop and turned it into a clean, highly functional workspace with high resistance to flood damage, great moisture-resistant custom shelving, and a clean and attractive look. He offered great suggestions to our original plan, and was excellent about consulting us for his suggested changes. He might not be the cheapest alternative on a per-hour basis, but he was absolutely great value -- he worked efficiently, showed up exactly when he said he would, and above all was a true craftsman who took pride in doing the job right. We will consult Locklear Construction first on any future home renovation projects.

This job was done perfectly! We had several screens that were torn due to the strong winds in our area from the ocean, and Locklear Construction removed the screens, and rescreened them and they turned out perfectly! Also, our screen door had a damaged screen as well and they were able to remove and replace the screen as well. Everything came out perfect and we would highly recommend them!

We are so pleased with how our sun porch turned out. Our sun porch had some very old walls and planking that needed to be removed, and rebuilt due to their age. Locklear Construction gave us suggestions on what materials to use to help keep with the character and charm of the house (as it is an older home), and would stand up to the harsh weather of the Outer Banks. This work also required residing the outside of the sun porch area and patio areas as well with new red cedar shingles. In addition, we also had 2 old windows in our patio area that needed to be replaced as well. Everything that was done exceeded our expectations on every level, and we would absolutely use Locklear Construction again for any remodeling jobs, and would highly recommend them! Friends that have seen the sun porch and patio have also complimented on how nice it turned out!

Excellent! Locklear Construction did an amazing job at bringing our ceiling back to life! The ceiling had old, and flaking paint on top of it that started to peel due to how old it was. Locklear Construction scraped away all the old paint, and put 2 new coats on it. It came out perfect! We also had damage to one of our doors by a dog, and Locklear Construction did an excellent job of repairing the damaged area, and repainting the door. We highly recommend them for any paint jobs!

Locklear Construction has recently starting doing the monthly yard work for our home, and it has turned out great! They mowed the backyard and did all of the trim work around our fence, removed cacti from the backyard so you don't step on them and get a thorn in your foot, and removed all the vines/weeds trying to grow on the side of the house. They have done an excellent job, especially given all the rain we have had this year! We would highly recommend them for any yard work and lawn services.

All furniture was carefully removed from all rooms without scuffing the walls or damaging the furniture, the new flooring was installed without any gaps, and all molding was installed perfectly...even around tight and small corners! We couldn't be happier with how the floors turned out and would highly recommend them!

A+ across the board! Excellent experience - I highly recommend Locklear Construction. My experience with John and his wife Karen was the best experience I have ever had working with a home contracting/construction company. John is a master carpenter and has expertise in all aspects of home building, repair, and maintenance. His wife Karen is an excellent communicator and manager, always contacts you, follows up on all emails and phone calls, and explains the cost and timing of when things can be completed. With the work they did for us, every phone call, email, or text message was promptly returned. Every project came in at the cost they estimated or less. Every project that was done was repaired or completed to our utmost satisfaction. The house and yard were completely clean of all debris when each project was completed. Also, there were a couple of items where there was a "deadline" because renters were coming and Locklear Construction completed all of the projects, and honored their commitments to ensure that the projects were done before the renters arrived. What I know to be true based on my experience is that when John Locklear looks you in the eye and says he can do the job, it costs this much, and he can have it done by this date....that you can trust him and count on it. My opinion is that Locklear Construction is honest, dependable, authentic, and highly skilled at what they do. It is so rare to find this combination of company, and people these days.....we plan on using them for all of our projects and property maintenance in the future. I highly recommend them. I also attached 2 pictures. One picture shows the new cedar shakes for the sunroom, and the other picture shows the new captains ladder that was completely built from scratch with wide steps, etching in the steps to grip it easier, hand rails, and securely anchored to the loft.

John was professional and gave us an estimate ahead of time for the work. Although I'm not sure of the going rate in the area, we thought the labor charge was reasonable, so we engaged him. Work was done in three phases, and each time we received an itemized list of charges, along with receipts for materials. The initial estimate suggested we would need quite a bit more work than was actually necessary. However, the job was less complicated and time-consuming. When we got the bill from Locklear Construction, it was less than the estimate. That enabled us to go ahead with some other work on the house. John did an excellent job of communicating with us, and he was prompt in completing the work. We would *definitely* hire him again, and we have recommended him to several others in our neighborhood.

The process was very easy. We dealt with the owner John on what we needed to begin living comfortably in our home. John was very helpful in what was needed, gave us constructive suggestions and a timely detailed quote for all the proposed work. Each day we knew not only who, but at what time the workers would arrive. If John could not be on site all day, he was there in the morning to start the crew off and at the end of the day to check the work and let us know what would be done the next day. There was an issue with post being exact and they were redone immediately. Our fence is great, meets our HOAs approval, we couldn't be happier. Work was completed a head of time and we will definitely be using Locklear Construction in the future.

This company provided reliable, competent, courteous and on-time services. Each step was discussed and options were provided. Crews were polite, trustworthy and never failed a day of work, except for rain, when we were called and told. Work sites were cleared and cleaned regularly. We would employ them again without any trepidation. An excellent company. I will let friends and business associates know of their competence. All in all, a disastrous housing situation saved and expertly handled by Mr. Locklear!

John did many miscellaneous "handyman" jobs for me over three days. He first inspected the separation of interior window trim. He immediately knew that the problem was a water leak from the outside of the window. He replaced the caulking of the exterior window trim and then repaired the interior trim and repaired the wall that was damaged by the water leak. He also did some touch up painting around the house. He cleaned up some moldy exterior siding on my garage exterior wall that I hadn't noticed. I had a broken seal on a roll out window. He arranged to order a new window and installed it within a week. He replaced a deck board and nailed down a lot of nails that were sticking up on outdoor furniture and decking. He offered to remove some old lumber that had been laying on a deck for a year and to remove an old broken charcoal grill for me. I will call John in the future if I need any assistance with home improvements.

John did a great job with the project and running his crew of guys. John always kept me informed of progress and was always waiting in my driveway when I was leaving for work. He was very punctual. All inspections went very well with no issues at all, John knows what he is doing. There were issues with the existing house, crooked walls, things not square, etc. So as the siding and windows were going in there were challenges getting everything to work and look correct with a house that was not really built well to begin with but John did a good job getting everything to look right. Even if the existing part of the house is not built very well I know that at least part of my house is right, the part John and his crew built.
