Sawmill Fencing

Carpentry Framing - Install, Carpentry Framing - Repair, Interior Trim and Decorative Moldings Installation,

About us

To all, Sawmill Fencing Employs only five members or six to include myself. The due amount is to be payable upon the completed work and a walk around with all homeowners. The walk around would be conducted with either myself or a foreman that is on Site. Every fence install has at least one foreman on site. I want nothing up front as that is fraudulent in my book! I want all to be happy before I accept a penny from anybody.

Services we offer

All fences are screwed together not a nail one! Don't be fooled by other companies telling you that a shank nail will not pull out. IT WILL! That is why I screw. Each fence is my reputation! All gates have a caster wheel with a wooden deck built below. This presents a finished appearance as well as preventing gate sag. With the casters on the deck, all the weight from the gate is removed from the hinges.

I walked with Mike and showed him where I wanted my fence to be and, for whatever reason, he did not quote me to where I wanted it to be. When his "crew" showed up I noticed they weren't putting the fence where I wanted and so I spoke to them and called Mike. He proceeded to tell me he was going to have to charge me $400 MORE than the quote because of materials etc (no additional materials were ever delivered). The first day 4 workers showed up, next day 3, then 2 for a couple of days and, even though my fence wasn't even half finished, one guy came out for the last couple of days. Most of the time his crew sat on the materials on their phones while 1 or 2 of the guys actually worked (when there was actually more than 1 person here). Both my gates sag, one part of my fence had a 12 foot section with no 2x4 to hold it up, one section leans outward, not all the boards are attached properly. I alerted Mike right away and sent pictures regarding all the issues and Mike said he was going to have to charge me additional to come out and fix it!!!! WHAT?! I explained who I was and the issues I had during installation and he said oh I'll come and fix it when I can. It's been excuse after excuse of why he is unable to fix INCLUDING that he is busy with paying jobs (so my $4,700 doesn't count as paying?), I'm borrowing a truck for work because mine was totaled and I can't drive it everywhere. It's a business.... you borrowed said truck FOR your business. It has been 2.5 years and he has yet to fix my issues (so much for a life time warranty right?). I paid someone else quite a bit of money to come out and fix what Mike's company did wrong. He sweet talks you with fairy tales of quality materials and workmanship with lifetime warranties. He talks about how he donates to this and that and all he is is a scam artist. DO NOT USE SAWMILL FENCING!

Not well. Now a year later the fence is falling apart and the company refuses to come back out and repair the fence. The owner stated " What do you want me to do... come back out there with 3 screws". This company refuses to guarantee their work. The owner is very unprofessional. This company should not be on Angie's list. I am now figuring out how to get my money back from the company.

Not well. The new fence was completely different than the rest of the fence.

"Too bad you feel that way. How much money did you put down. NONE. I accept no payment until the customer is happy and a walk around has been done with the homeowner. Where this review comes from I DON'T KNOW and I really don't care. What was installed is what was agreed upon. If you were not happy with the install than you should have said something then so we could have changed it to your liking. To just run F's on everything shows your character."

Not good. The house has a fence on 3 sides. The original fence was a shadow box fence. Mike replaced the shadow box fence with a privacy fence and did not ask for permission. Now the property has 2/3 of the fence shadow box style and 1/3 privacy style. Needless to say my mother-in-law is not happy. I asked Mike to provide an estimate to replace the left side of the fence since it is leaning but the estimate was too high. By replacing the left side of the fence the property/lot would not look so strange. Note: Please remove your coupon from Angie's list because Mike stated he does not honor your coupon. Nice guy but bad decision on his part to change the style of fence without receiving permission.

I called Mike, left a message and received a call back within an hour.  We scheduled an estimate for a time when they would be in the area (I believe 2 days later).  It ended up raining, but he sent Mario to do the estimate.  He arrived early and we walked the entire property in the rain.   I told him what we were looking for and he gave some suggestions.  They came out as expected and my fence looks amazing compared to others.  The best perk is that this fence cost the same amount that the builder was quoting me to use Andy's.
He also did 700+ feet fence on my neighbors house and it looks great!

Did a really good job. Real fair quoting. I noticed there was some confusion about where it was supposed to be, and I called him and it was fixed instantly.

"Matt, I did not even know that you were an Angieslist customer. This review is a HUGE SURPRISE! Thank you for the markings. I will always continue to do my best and ensure all are happy. We errored on the initial installation on the left side front. As you stated we jumped on it immediately! I thank you for pointing out a mistake on our side and making an honest review. That is how it should be and how this Site should work! Semper Fi! Mike"

Prior to this review being submitted a letter was generated, signed and sent to the provider.  The letter required signature upon receipt. However, the letter was 'rejected and returned to sender' on August 12, 2014. This review is the letter that was sent unabated.
Micheal Setzler,
Good afternoon. I would like to begin by stating that the fence
was put up in a timely manner and that your
staff was courteous and professional.
It brings me immense displeasure to send your company sign back,
every day that passes I cannot
continue to promote you or your company.
The way my spouse and I were treated
after payment was rendered, made us feel as if the ?investment? we
made was not worth the treatment given and we were forgotten by you.
With the amount of money ?invested?
one would expect the utmost customs and courtesies to be displayed. Were you
courteous and attentive at first? Did you show up to worksite when the fence
was being installed? Did you follow up with us after fence was completed? Yes,
however, everything you had praised and everything you projected changed, after
we had an issue with the (54) post caps and the discrepancies left behind.
The things that you post online do not
fall in line with what you do. The description of your company clearly
states ?Attention to detail is bred into him? which
refers to you not your staff.  However, when we spoke to you
about the boards that were unsecured, the fence board with
the red ?X? marks that needed to be replaced, and the exposed screws, unsecured
top boards, you called it ?nitpicking?. I know that our issues
were not small or unimportant errors. Furthermore, your
foreman stated he would come out and look at the issues, but never did. Several
calls were made to your foreman, which you stated
before ?My foreman can make the same decisions I can make, if you need
anything consult with him?.
We were patient and waited to hear back from yourself
or your foreman and no call was ever made. Our concerns fell on deaf ears. It
took two weeks to hear back from you in regards to the issues, t
he (54) post caps,  as well more than six weeks to clear some of the issues.
We understand that you do not make the post caps and that they come
from a manufacturer.  However, as the owner of the company, you are
responsible for items placed and how they are placed on the fence your company
builds as well as any issues that occur. After contacting the manufacturer and
speaking to Sarah at Lowe?s it was discovered that the (54) post caps were
installed incorrectly. Following numerous
discussions we initially decided to replace the post caps if they were installed
correctly. Unfortunately, we were discouraged after you called our issues
"nitpicking? therefore we decided
against re-installation of the post caps. In addition, you refused to clean up
the copious amounts of construction grade glue that was left
behind on all (54) posts. This is not a good look for
your fence or your company. In fact, we are providing you a service by not
keeping your company sign on the fence as people have commented negatively
about the way the posts were left behind as well as the discrepancies that can
be seen. Your justification for not correcting issues, you stated that
we were ?nickel and diming you?. You stated ?I would have
to send and pay my foreman fifteen dollars an hour for his time and work, I am too busy with estimates,
and we are costing you time and money?
. We were shocked to have heard this
from the owner of a company who guards his reputation.
One would ask, if Micheal Setzler made a several thousand
dollar ?investment?. Would you want to be treated poorly, ignored and not
have discrepancies fixed, not at all.

Lastly, we asked that you send us a corrected invoice as you refunded
us the money for (54) post caps. All we asked was that you correct our
address listed on the invoice and the amount we paid to reflect the refund. We need
this information for tax purposes and records. Your response was ?that it was better for us to have an
invoice with the original amount for a greater tax write off and an incorrect
address does not matter?.
We asked you again for a corrected invoice and
your response was, ?you were stressed out, furthermore having to deal
with all matters pertaining to the job and that you were not spending another
stamp mailing a document out?.
We simply asked that you e-mail it to us.
We are content that you returned our money back for the post caps,
but we are dejected how everything was handled, what
it took, and everything involved. Enclosed are print outs from
various websites your company is
tied to.  I have highlighted what you have written as a reminder to
you that what you write does not coincide with
what you do. I would encourage you to take into consideration the
time utilized to write directly to you about our experiences.
With the years invested in your reputation it would be wise to pass the
knowledge on to your staff that attention to detail is paramount.
I have enclosed the pictures of the post caps, discrepancies
that remain, post cap installation guide plus an email from Brenda Hines.
Moving forward, all we have asked from you was to
do the right thing when no one is looking. You are a retired
Marine therefore understand the meaning of it.
The description of your company states
?this is a company aimed to please?.
In our case you did not ?shoot the target, you shot the berm?.

"This individual can call someone else to come out there! I wanted to say something much nastier but I figured I should still be professional with this individual and not let it upset me. Yes he his trying to nitpick! I will continue to use that word! After having been there numerous times, all the texts, all the e-mails, all the phone cons with he and she!!!! I WILL NOT GO BACK!!! I REFUSE TO BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF!!! He does the walk around with us every time and he sees nothing. Then I get a call, "Well Mr. Mike my wife seen this" or "I seen this after you left". I have given this couple WAY more attention than deserved!!! I will not return! Keep the review as you will I don't care. They can not be pleased and it will reflect on them when they need work on their foreclosure. I will not cave to a review by someone like this. If I am wrong on a project, I am wrong, I'll fix it! Nobody's perfect! My reviews are as they are because life is simple and people make life hard. I make it a goal to keep things simple for everybody. I have tried and tried with this couple to no avail. I QUIT ON THEM! At least I know in my heart I did everything to try and please the impossible. I will take no further steps to correct their issue. The glue that is left on those posts is from the fence that they ordered. The caps went bad and I was replacing them (after a two or three week issue with Lowes). I was there reinstalling the next day after I spoke with the wife where she stated "yes we want to put the caps back on". OK, I am putting caps on when he rolls up and states "We decided after my wife spoke with you not to put the caps on". Really, now you want me to do what? Swallow all the labor and fuel cost? Scrape glue off your post for free after your wife told me the night prior to reinstall new? Let's get real here! According to the company (Newport) they claimed they fixed the problem with the caps. Yet, I refund his money for the caps, spend (4 hours at Lowes getting new caps ( I was there also with my foreman) 1 hour on the jobsite for the reinstall and walk around with the homeowner for other "Perceived Issues". Am wrong not to go back to the inevitable? If we walk that fence with a owner/builder, that should be it. I have done it 4 times and my foreman twice. It won't happen again. Every contractor that he has come to that house that contacts me, I guarantee, that contractor will not be working there after I tell him the story. He is not hurting me, only himself."

I see why my realtor referred me to this company.

The fence looks solid with very straight, clean, lines. My favorite feature (that set them apart from the other fencing companies I visited with) was their fence gate. The gate actually rolls open/shut on a wood platform that the company installs into the ground - so practical yet so necessary to prevent the usual warp that happens with fence gates. Quality!

Called them on Friday, had a quote by Monday, and the fence was finished by Wednesday! They are efficient and seem motivated (it rained for a little bit but the workers waited out the rain in their cars and then jumped right back on the job until they finished.

 I am impressed!

Once again, Mike and his crew have outdone themselves. Mike quoted me a ridiculously low price per square foot because I was a repeat customer and since I had seen his company's work, it was a no contest on who to go with. Mike started the job himself and did an awesome job, but due to running a company he brought in two of his crew to do the rest. Arnold and Scotty were consummate professionals, extremely hard working, personable, and worked with us every step of the way to make sure things were to our liking. Whenever they would run into a tough spot (and there are a lot with this house) they made sure to get my input before going ahead with any plan that they had for it. They made sure not to waste any materials to save me money and in the end I was able to return over $300 in materials. The attention to detail was more than I've ever seen from anyone doing flooring before. The final product was a floor that covers the entire house and only had to use 1 transition strip! If I ever end up coming back to this area and doing floors again, I'm definitely requesting Arnold and Scotty to do them no matter what the price per square foot is.
This is the flooring that they installed: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/cocoa-walnut-laminate-flooring/prod9040473.ip?navAction=push

I contacted Mike when I was gathering estimates from different companies and he was by far the most personable and most forthcoming of all the companies that I dealt with. He went so far as to show me all the prices that he gets for materials, which is rare to get that kind of upfront honesty these days. When I found out I was moving and I needed the fence put up quickly, Mike was the only person I contacted out of the 5 companies that I had measure and price me out. The quality speaks for itself when you see the fence. The crew were great and friendly, answering any questions that I had while they were building the fence. It only took them a day and a half of total work time, no shortcuts were taken and the quality is great. The pressure treated lumber used was without cracks or flaws and the use of screws instead of nails will ensure that the fence boards will stay intact when nailed fences will fall apart in a few years. The wooden platform supporting the castor wheels on the gate is an awesome feature that will prevent gate sag and stress on the hinges. If I ever buy a home in this area again, Stetzler Sawmill fencing is the first and only company I'm calling.
I marked the price as a B because they do charge a little more than the other fencing companies around, but remember that you get what you pay for and Stetzler Sawmill fencing's record and Angie's List awards speak for themselves. I can't speak highly enough about their work.

Though nothing is perfect, something tiny can always be improved upon be reading every report!"

There was no question%2c i wanted this company to do our fence from the start.look around mattocks avenue%2 in maysville c every fence that wasnailed nailed%2c instead of galvenized screwed secure, all those corners are splitting and popped off. We have had some hurricanes, so u can understand, however the house i moved ot from was a rental, the neighbors had sawmill do thier side, and i dont know what company did ours, but we were examining the whole fence, because the new house we bought needed a fence built so we wanted to see the thickness of wood, and poles, gauge howmuch this progect would cost diy... long story short this is how we noticed, that the sawmilsawmill side (neighbors side of fence built sametime when the whole neighborhood was built most likely)used galvenized screws, and our side the side that bowed up and buckling, used nails. After renovating thehouse we were about to be moving to, i knew my husband just couldnt handle the sd. have tress of building a fence by his self. Didnt have the tools, the auger, the help, or the time, because we have 4 dogs and a pregnant women does not want to walk 4 dogs. So i called after reading the good reviews. Sawmill was 700.00more than the other places, but the other places used nails, and didn't have any appointments open til july, and i was caling mid month MAY.

The owner gave me a quote without having to come out, promised me more than 2 workers would come, and had a utilities company come spray paint the lawn where the water lines, cable and electric lines were (by the way never even thought of that!! my husband was very happy they did that. it was rainy off and on but i explained my lawn was dry, so they bumped me up a couple of days (he said he would if he could when he sent the quote but i thought he was just bsing)

7 guys came out at 9am, set out thier tool boxes, they had a high tech tractor, not a hand held auger to dig all the wholes super fast, my dogs peed right into the guys toolboxes they laid out but they thought my dogs were cute... they never asked touse the bathroom which was comforting because we had just moved in, and i was pregnant trying to nap, since we spent the whole night before that day, doing the "infamous jacksonville move out clean" that all the realty companys have you do, its so thorough we had had no sleep the night before.

I went back to sleep they knocked on the door not for payment but to ask us if we were satisfied?! 430pm yes we were satisfied we paid the money and they were gone. Such a lovely fence, that is so very sturdy, and professionally put up.

if you have a bunch of friends, and tools, and materials, try to do yourself, but we had the money in the budget, and though it would have been nice to keep the money for decoratng or a big flat screen, we just didn't have the resources to DIY it. and thisis the only company we would trust to do it right or do it ourselves.

They did an excellent job.  I had a chaining fence and they came & took it all down.  He took it away and then put up the 6-foot wood fencing that was beautiful.  I got to choose from all different kinds of fencing.  They came in and it was a two-day job.  It was beautiful.  They did exactly what I wanted.  The fence is a little bit odd shape and they took care of it.  I have been very happy with it.  The people who did the work were very professional and very friendly.  They came and did their job.  Their price was very reasonable as fencing could be so expensive.  The owner is a retired marine and he is out here trying to make a living.  He did an excellent job.

The job Mike and his crew did is of quality and his crew showed up on time ready to go.  I had some warranty work done several months ago and that went well it was do to craftsmanship.  The only downfall is that he forgot to put a caster wheel on the fence door which is indicated on his website "that all doors are provided with a caster wheel to keep the weight off the hinges to prevent the door from sagging.  This issue was address to his foreman the day he came out to conduct warranty work and I thought he would take care of it and to this day I have no caster wheel.  Another issue Mike was drinking beer on the my property when installing the fence and also  having phone conversations with him on random times he seemed to be impaired and I could not get straight answer from him. So I had to call back the following day.  But, the fence is straight as a arrow and seems to be solid.

Mike still haven't came out to install the caster on the fence door as mentioned.  I guess he was having a few beers when he wrote his response and forgot the next day....  The contractors in this town are full of empty promises...  Beware!
Response from Sawmill Fencing
"I am sorry for your experience with Sawmill Fencing. You are correct with the caster wheels on the gates! The statement should state " all wood Fencing" . Indeed that needs to be corrected! When you and I spoke over the phone, I gave and we agreed upon a time. We were on time and rang the door bell to let you know we were there. I received a call from you a couple hours later stating that you were never informed that my guys were there and that they should have at least rung the door bell. I called my Foreman and he called you. That is when you recanted your statement. I did have a beer at your house and I had many more when I got home. That was the date I lost 12 of my best friends in Iraq. That is no excuse to be at your house with a beer, I was wrong!! All I ask out of anybody is that one accepts responsibility for wrong doings and that one never passes judgement without know the full story. With too much on my mind, I still wanted to ensure you were taksen care of as well as my guys. I had alot going and was wrong for having a beer! I will continue to celebrate the lives of my friends and Marines every year! I am sorry for the unexpected experience. NO EXUSE!! I just ask people not to judge others when they do not know what is going on in their lives. Again, NO EXCUSE!!! The goal was ultimately achieved because I care about my company. After a couple months or so and us coming out three or four times we are completed. Bottom line is, if there is a craftsmanship issue that arises, please call and we will handle it!"

I first contacted Mike after finding his company through Angie's List. He was able to give me an quote over the phone, I already had an idea of the footage of the fence. On the same day he also sent Jon to get the measurements for their records. I worked with Jon with planning, measuring, and figuring out how we wanted the fence. Jon came out a few times making sure that the fence came out correctly and high standards. They also recommended a lot survey, which was done by a separate company. As soon as the survey was done, the fence installation was scheduled, and then adjusted to an earlier date. They came around 7am and was done by 2pm, the whole fence installed! They provide treated wood and all screwed on.

The job they did was amazing. They are very professional and highly recommended.

There is no military discount like the other companies only because Mike does something better -- 1% of the total cost of the service goes to the Wounded Warrior Project.

"Wow, All I can say is thank you for posting a response on Angies List. It means a lot to me for people to take time out of their schedule to comment on my company. It, in all actuality, makes it harder on me because I have to push harder and harder to maintaine these great reviews. That is work that I am happy to do though. Once one gets complacent in their buisness, things begin to go down hill. You and all customers who post keep me in line and focused. I thank you for that."

.Well first I saw the Sawmill Fencing sign on one of our neighbors fence. I then went to Angie's list to see what reviews Sawmill received, since they seemed to be the company of choice in my neighborhood. What I noticed first was that they were the highest recommended Fencing company on the list. After reading their reviews I immediately called them to get an estimate. And the rest is history.

The owner Mike was excellent to work with from start to finish.  He was prompt, professional, courteous and willing to work with an out of town home owner.  The quality of the fence was exceptional - all boards screwed in rather than nailed which is important in a hurricane prone area.  He also cleared a good amount of overgrown shrubbery that was in the way.
