+ -1 moreA complete intentional rip off of an African American female senior citizen. Paid $1,200 and Plumber tore up things to get more money. For example, plumber was supposed to fix the shower. Now the toilet backs up in the bathtub.Told me shower needed A new showerhead. He did not test to see if water came out of the showerhead. Complete fraud. Description of Work: Service tech was great. Person I talked to at office was at best impatient with me and at worst, rude. Terribly over priced. I know Roto Rooter is good, but they charged me 2 1/2 times what someone else had charged. I should have gotten a quote before the work was done. Had I done that, I would not have hired them.

Description of Work: Called provider at 8:30am with plumbing leak. Representative explained they would be out that afternoon. At 4pm, I called and a woman said she was sorry but they pulled all their trucks off the road that day for the snow. I am angry because they didn't call. I waited and waited. I finally called another company but by that time they couldn't come out until the next morning. Roto was not concerned with keeping me updated. When I called I had water flooding, and they didn't walk me through turning my water off or anything to temper the problem until they could get there.

+ 0 moreThe receptionist that answered the phone is very rude and unprofessional. I am asking her questions and she was expecting me to know my own answers. She was using phrases like "I said" and "How am I supposed to know." Is that not her responsibility to be able inform the potential client without being condecending? I will not call again nor recommend this company to anyone at all.
Description of Work: Asked if they install drainage systems in the backyard so that the area where all the water collects can drain away from the house.

+ 1 moreI was obviously bothering them by calling, which was evident by the tone when answering the call. I described the issues we were having with both toilets and was asked when I last had the septic pumped. I informed him it is a new house and we have lived in it for 3 years. He then proceeded to tell me my septic tank is full and I need to call a service for which he recommended 2 names. I explained there are only 2 of us living in the house and again he said it was the tank. I immediately called another plumber and described the symptoms. He told me to use a plunger in the shower drain, which loosened the hair blockage and fixed my issues. At a time when we are vulnerable, Roto Rooter chose to pawn us off on a potential $200 - $400 septic tank pumping. I will never call them again and I will also ensure the coporate office is aware of the representation.

+ -1 moreThe service was prompt. They came within 1 hour of me calling because they had a technician in the area. He was polite. I had already pulled everything out from under the sink and wiped it down for him. He told me what the problem was and I told him to go ahead and fix it. This is how they work. You are charged a $75 fee to get an estimate. If you tell the tech to go ahead and do the repairs, then that fee is waived. I had my Angie's List coupon all printed out and gave it to the technician. He called the office and they wouldn't take my coupon after all was said and done, so I had to pay full price. I am, of course, not thrilled with that. He told me that the owner is very picky about what coupons are used. Since there is a coupon for them at the top of my Angie's List page, I told him that is where I got it, but they wouldn't take it and since the work had already been done, I had to pay full price.
Description of Work: The provider came and looked at the piping under the kitchen sink. He found that one of the pipes was too short and cut another to size and replaced it.

+ -1 moreThey were prompt and arranged everything with my tenant to get the sink fixed. They gave two estimates prior to coming so that we would know the potential price range depending on what they had to do and what equipment was involved. They ended up charging the lesser amount. The only negative was that they required payment at time of service rather than billing us as the landlord, so we had to reimburse our tenants. Possibly could have been avoided if I had arranged payment with them prior to the service. I cannot comment on the price because I did not compare with other providers and I cannot comment on professionalism because I was not at the location at time of service.
Description of Work: The plumber fixed a clogged kitchen sink for our tenants after they had already tried Drano and several other products for eliminating clogs.

Description of Work: We had a sewage backup for the second time in our rental home. When the previous plumber could not be contacted, our renter went ahead and called RotoRooter. They responded right away, and arrived within the hour. The RotoRooter representative/plumber was very professional, and did what the other plumber could not. They were able to auger out the sewage pipes from the back of the house all the way to the street. ALL of the sewage/drain pipes were completely cleaned out. (Special equipment was used. RotoRooter might be a "big box" plumbing company, BUT they've got the equipment and know-how to solve the problem that we encountered.) The sewage pipes have not backed up since. RotoRooter also has a one year guarantee on their work. We were impressed at the responsiveness of the company, from the representative who originally answered our renter's call, all the way to the plumber who arrived on the doorstep. Kudos!

Description of Work: We bought an old house with a basement - great basement; we love it - but crazy issues with flooding, especally after hurricanes. Over the years we have spent a fortune on ALL kinds of recommended fixes -wish I could have that money back - money spent, but problem never fixed. Anyway, in June 2012 our water-heater broke and flooded the basement, so I desperately searched online for someone to repair heater, and found Roto-Rooter. The technician came out the same day. What a champion he was!!! He changed the water-heater (the old one was kaput), and called his boss to come out to look at my basement drains because they were not draining the water out. The boss (owner of the company) recommended a sump-pump (why didn't those "experts' I had used before EVER give me this recommendation??). The Roto-Rooter technician stayed THE ENTIRE DAY working in my basement until the sump-pump was fully installed. In spite of being tired, hungry, dirty and frustrated, he took the time to explain the workings of the water-heater and the sump-pump to me. Summer and Fall of 2012 brought heavy rainfall, but not one drop of these downpours entered my basement. It's like heaven in our house now!!! When it rains I can be happy for my garden, and have no stress about my basement. i used them again to repair a toilet that was constantly running, and I was not very impressed by that tech, though a very nice young man. He overcharged me, but the company called me about the mistake, and sent me a check for the overcharge. The toilet stills runs occasionally, but I just need to make the time to call and have them adjust it.

+ -1 moreWe had an emergency when somebody ran over our water main and broke it. They were so pricey. They had to come out and repair the water line. It was just a PVC line, but they ended up charging us $200 to fix a one-foot piece of PVC because they came out to fix it. They got out here in a timely manner and they were responsive to our calls and stuff like that, but they were just extremely expensive. They charge $75 even to come out just to do an estimate. The quality was good and they did take care of it. When the water main broke, it washed away all the dirt around where the water main would be, and they actually made sure that not only did they fix the pipe but also filled everything back up so that it looked normal. They were very quick, and we originally went with them because they could get out here as fast as possible while everybody else would have taken some time. They were very professional. We may probably not use them again because of the pricing.

+ -1 moreI called Roto-Rooter today, March 7, 2012, and spoke with John the owner. I told him of my problem and he said it would be $65 to come out only if they did the work. I believe I was misinformed by this and was not happy that the flat rate was $130. The young man, Chris, that came was very polite and was able to fix our problem. He served us with good customer service but we are still unhappy about the misleading of the price.

+ -1 moreI made the initial consultation with them to come out and give us an estimate to do the plumbing on a first time dishwasher for our home. The consultation fee was $75 which would be applied towards the job if we hired them. We decided we would hire them to do the job. They were supposed to come back a few days later, on a Saturday morning. I waited hours for them to show up, they never did. When I called they said another job was taking longer than expected and they would come at 6 that evening, well, no one ever came. No one called. So we are out $75 and they will never be called for our needs ever again.
Description of Work: All that they ever did was charge us $75 for a consultation and they never showed up for our appointment to do the job. They never called and flaked twice.

+ -1 moreI scheduled an appointment on the morning of 3 June. I was told that someone would be at my residence between 2-4 pm. I was to receive a call 20 minutes prior so that I can make it home. Here it was 3 pm and still nothing. I left my place of employment and then called at 3:30 pm. I was told that as soon as the repairman was done with his current job, he'll be on his way. I called again twice before 5 pm and was told the guy was gonna be there in about an hour. FINALLY at 6:30 pm. I canceled the job! So ridiculous!

Description of Work: The pipe for the hot water in the master bathroom shower was leaking. Called Roto Rooter to have them give an estimate. After replacing a seal, the repairman stated the pipe would have to be replaced. He further stated that in order to fix the pipe, the entire tub and surround would have to come out. When asked what the cost would be for parts and labor, approximately $2,000. Had another company come in and made the repair plus changed the shower from dual to a single handle for about half the cost without having to replace the tub.
