Response from John Star Electric Inc
What the customer failed to mention was the light fixtures were in fact old, the wires were very brittle, and we had fluctuating voltage at the fixture, we did in fact test voltage leaving every circuit breaker, each circuit breaker tested for proper voltage, we in fact removed each breaker and conducted a visual examination of each breaker and the busbar in which they were plugged in to. After installing the new light fixtures the fluctuating voltage stopped and before we left the site, there was no flickering at the fixture.(the Customer stated that the light fixtures were old and needed replacing). The customer made the decision to replace the fixtures, before we completed any more work. JSE Inc. received a call several months later from this customer, stating that he just had some remolding completed and that he had several breakers replaced, and was requesting a refund from us, (although for several months after we completed the job, there was no flickering at the light fixtures we replaced). We here at JSE Inc. value all our customers, and try to follow the spirit and intentions of the electrical codes as they are written "for the safety and welfare of the general public" We only wish the best for this customer, we hire highly trained and educated electricians, we have a training program and policy and procedures to follow. Thank You. John Starzynski, President John Starz Electric, Inc.

Had a problem with our business sign not working, called John Starz Electric and he came out right away to look at it and let me know what he could do to get it working again. We scheduled the work to be done and it was completed in a timely manner and at a fair price. The technicians were very professional and cleaned up after the work was completed.

The installation was set for 3/17/14 at 1300. The electrician, David, called at approximately 1230 to say he was on Piney Green and should be there, our home, within 15-20 minutes. He arrived promptly and introduced himself and, prior to coming in, made sure his shoes were clean. He was very polite and wasted no time to start the work. Throughout the time he was here he was constantly working, very polite and well mannered. His work was very professional and clean. He made sure that the room was clean before leaving and we would definitely call John Starz first for all our electrical work.

I was sent a text (yes, a text) from the owner telling me what I owed. I insisted on an invoice and received an invoice a couple days later with a complete list of the repairs each listed as costing $0.00 dollars but somehow adding up to $225. At the end of the day, expressing my frustration with everything he let me know that I could have been charged $500 for services rendered but he was doing me a favor of some kind...wow. Oh, and don't forget to add the 8% surcharge for paying with your credit card. It took nearly a week of back-and-forth to acquire any kind of official inspection report that I would need to get the power turned on or sell to the next prospective buyer. If you prefer and can afford to do all your business on a wink and a nod then perhaps this company is for you. As for me, I've never had such a poor and unprofessional experience. Update: Although I've paid the bill despite the incredibly inaccurate invoice, the owner of the company has threatened to and quot;contact my commandand quot; as though I've done something illegal. I give up.
Description of Work: I hired John Star electric on a referral from my realtor while purchasing a foreclosed home. I needed an electrical inspection to have the power turned back on. John, the owner, quoted me at $125 for the inspection, plus any repairs; I agreed. There were only a few repairs required. He installed an outlet cover, disconnected a dangling light fixture, replaced a breaker and repaired a ground wire. All seemed leg... view moreit. At the end of the day those repairs cost me an additional $100 dollars which seemed too much to me given the time it takes to perform those repairs and considering the cost of what little materials were required.

Response from John Star Electric Inc
In Response to your False accusations, first we discussed in detail the price you were to be charged. Our prices are pretty standard; as follows $150.00 Visual Walk through Inspection; $125.00 Local Jurisdiction Electrical Permit Admin Fees. You were given a quote over a phone call on the items needed to be repaired, you gave us authorization to proceed on the repairs, we suggested to you a solution on 2 items to just disconnect the wires in the Electrical Panel (in order to reduce the cost, on which you agreed to) due to the fact you could not provide a key for us to gain entrance into the "out building and determine if there were any violations" in fact you yourself stated that you "broke into the building by climbing through a window. That in itself should of raised a "red flag" as to the integrity of the person we were going to be dealing with, But we here at JSE, Inc. do our best to not judge our customers and try to deliver the best possible service to our customers. I will agree with Mr. Sorg; we did in fact communicate through text messages, a primary way of communication in todays busy world. We do in fact send out Estimates, Invoices and Reports, upon request. By the way, we have not received Payment as of Today 2-10-2014, and the State of North Carolina allows us to use a "surcharge on all Credit Card Transactions

The technician did exactly what I wanted done and was extremely professional. He explained what he had to do, kept me aware of his progress, and stayed on task. He moved furniture as needed and cleaned up his work areas once he was finished. He left to pick up pats at one point but was back when he said he would be. I am satisfied with the project and the cost, as he spent nearly 4 hours on the job and had to purchase some electrical equipment and light bulbs.
Description of Work: Installed boxes in the ceiling for mounting light fixtures in two rooms and a bracket and box for a ceiling fan in another room. The technician also ran wire for the new boxes and pulled wires to existing switches as well as changing the wiring to three outlet boxes. He also installed two light fixtures and the ceiling fan and light kit.

I don't remember the exact dates I met or spoke on the phone with Mr Star. I had to reschedule our original consult date. At that time, it was understandable because of the holidays. When we had the consult, Mr Star took notes and I provided a list of requested services. Mr. Star said he would write and estimate and send it in an email. He stated he currently had jobs on base for the new housing construction, but that he would be able to have a couple of his guys come from the base to work at our home. After a few days had passed and I had not received the email, I contacted Mr. Star. He asked for a reminder of the work and address. I provided the information during our conversation. He then said he would write up and estimate and email it to me. I I had the impression that the work was too much, that he would prefer new construction, or that he would prefer smaller jobs. Again, several days passed and I did not receive and email or phone call. I decided that it was not a good idea to persue hiring someone when it starts off this bad. I made no more attempts to contact John Star Inc..
Description of Work: No work was performed. The requested work was for a home about 15 years old and the following was discussed at our consult: Take smoke detector off GFCI in upstairs guest bathroom and put it on a reliable circuit. Seperate the outside outets, master bathroom outlets, and garage door opener off the GFCI in upstairs guest bathroom. Add dedicated circuit and outlet in crawl space for dehumidifier. Add outlets next to stove, behind entertainment center, in the garage, and outside.

The two craftmen [I'm sorry to say that I've forgotten their names] arrived about when they said they would be there. We were introduced and shortly after their boss, John Star, showed up to confirm what they were supposed to do. They were very professional, well dressed and friendly. It took them right at 3.5 hours to do their work and after cleaning up their small mess, departed. I was very pleased with their work and price, which was somewhat under the estimated initial price. I would definitely recommended them to someone else, or use their service again, if needed.

Rob and Jay were both polite, personable, respectful, thorough and knowledgeable. When they moved furniture to check the outlets they put the furniture back and nothing was damaged. We did use John Star Electric about a month ago and the 2 electricians were equally polite, personable, respectful, thorough and knowledgeable. John Star will always be the electrical company we call, no one else come close.
Description of Work: Original call was to find out why some of our outlets trip the circuit breaker. The electricians, Jay and Rob, checked all of the outlets throughout our home and the breaker box and the electrical box outside. Both told us they could not do anything nor increase the breaker power without redoing the whole breaker box. They "schooled" us on voltage and found out that particular breaker is a 15 volt. When we plug the vacuum into that particular outlet it trips the breaker. The vacuum is rated at 12 volts and the outlets on that particular breaker, if used and then we plug in the vacuum, it trips the breaker. We just have to be aware of volts used in that outlet and use another plug for the vacuum. Both stated the outlet is safe, which is the reason we had them come and check it. Rob indicated the kitchen should have GFCI outlets, which do not. We remodeled our kitchen and the outlets were changed from white to beige. Rob checked his van and had no beige outlets. So, he went and got 2 GFCI outlets. Now the kitchen is GFCI as well as our bathrooms.

The estimate was done in a timely manner. They were 1 of 5 estimates. They weren't the cheapest, but John's attitude won the day. Came to a start date and the guys showed up right on time. The guys he has working for him had personalities, they didn't just robot around but actually answered numerous questions as they went about doing the work. The quality of work is outstanding and they didn't waste time doing it. There was little to no clean up when they were done, they picked up all the trash, which was appreciated. There is no doubt they WILL be hired for our future projects!!!!! By the way, the total bill came in under the estimate!!

This is the third time we have used John Star Electric. They have always been responsive in starting the jobs. The electricians are punctual, courteous, professional, conscientious and thorough. On one visit, on a day that was cold and rainy, they went outside and under the crawlspace to continue to search junction boxes for the source of a short. If they had not done this, I would never have known it was necessary. At the same time they voluntarily performed safety checks, replacing older outlets with newer, more reliable ones. It was reassuring to find that they were as concerned as I was about the safety of my family, I have more electrical work to be done and John Star Electric will be the company I call to get it done.

Great!
Description of Work: My project was to swap out chandelier with ceiling fan. My problem 20ft ceiling. After being told by Lowes Home Improvement installer that the ceiling was to tall and he would have to rent scaffolding and charge me $200.00. I was beginning to think that maybe my project was going to have to be put on hold. I called John Star Electric, explained my situation, and was told no problem. This was exactly what I wanted to hear. We scheduled the project, the electricians called prior to arriving, and they were done in less than an hour. No scaffolding needed. Great job.
