The initial visit wasn't especially warm and fuzzy, according to my son, who did the "interviews". What I mean by this was that there wasn't as much information or explanation as with some other companies. But we went with McClintock, because they were a registered Trane dealer, and seemed to be in line as far as price. The installation did not go without a hitch-- the installation team, youngish men, initially wired something incorrectly and the AC would not start, but they called in someone more experienced who soon corrected the error. All my contacts with the women at the office were completely pleasant and efficient, and we're happy with the unit.
Description of Work: Installed new AC unit, removed old one.

I am very impressed with the service we had today. The technician was here for 2 hours -as opposed to the rushed 20 minute service we usually have had in the past. He took time to explain everything in detail, - we took a laddert to the vents we needed opening, he recommended where was the optimal placement for future items i,e thermostats, co2 monitors etc. We have had the AC units looked at for 2 years now and yet it was today I found out we have had damage incurred by a dog urinating on the unit. This has never been picked up - not even by the initial check up prior to buying the house either! I feel very comfortable with what I have been told and for the first time feel like our check actually was deserved! Thank you. Mrs J Bareham

We had three reputable companies from Angie's List quote on multiple options. We then decided what we wanted to do and did an apples-to-apples comparison. One company (with whom we had a very satisfactory service contract for several years) was over 20% more expensive than the other two. McClintock and another company were very close in price. McClintock had a slightly higher Angie's List rating and McClintock people acted more professionally during the evaluation and quotation process, so we selected McClintock. Every aspect of the installation went perfectly. The showed up when they said they would, kept one HVAC system up at all times, finished on schedule by bringing in an extra crew on the final of the three days, cleaned up completely, provided the necessary training, provided the needed rebate information, and provided the warranty documents. Every person we met acted professionally. Those people include Rob McClintock (owner), Randy Race (sales - Comfort Consultant), Brian Davis (production manager), Frank Lopez (installation team leader), as well as the lady in the office. Randy Race's professionalism and thoroughness were the key factors in selecting McClintock over their competitor whose price was very competitive. The thoroughness and competence of Frank Lopez were above reproach. In summary, McClintock and every employee with whom we dealt met or exceeded our expectations for both timeliness and quality. The Mecklenburg County inspector was pleased with the job and approved it without modifications. We had no experience with McClintock prior to the evaluation and quotation processes. We would now recommend them without reservation for any HVAC project. They met or exceeded our expectations during every step.
Description of Work: Get permits. Remove two16 year old systems (gas furnaces and electrical AC units). Install two new Trane 95% gas furnaces and two Trane 18 SEER AC units. Install a high efficiency filter (99.98% Trane CleanEffects filter) with one of the units (bedroom area). Install new wiring, electrical breakers, 2 new programmable thermostats, and new flue piping. Increase the size of one air return duct. Install one new supply dust and register in master bath. Repair one damaged air return duct. Provide training on new systems including thermostat usage. Provide info needed for utility company rebates and certification necessary for tax rebates.

sorry, I can't remember the date, but I have to give McClintock the highest rating again for service excellence. I had another problem with my air conditioner after they serviced it and I called the office and bam!! James came out to look at the air conditioner and fix it again. He is so nice and very knowledgeable. Everyone there, from the women who answer the phone to James and Kevin are very polite and professional. I highly recommend them for service and they can surely use me as a reference if need be. Thanks again.

I called McClintock to check out my HVAC issue, and they said that I needed a new circuit board for my furnace. The guy that came out and checked things out was very nice and professional, and even oiled the fan while he was out there. He quoted me $620 for the part and installation, which seemed really high. So, I started calling around to get other quotes for the same part, and another Angie's List comapny (B&E Heating) quoted me $297 for same job - a MUCH better deal than the original company quoted. I went with the other company b/c their quote was less than half of what McClintock was going to charge. When I called McClintock to cancel the appointment, the person on the phone was rather unpleasant and tried to charge me $80 for the 'estimate' even though she said that they did free estimates when I initially called them (and didn't provide any additional information when i asked if there were any stipulations regarding the estimate).
Description of Work: AC fan would cut on but no air was blowing out of the vents.

Response from McClintock Heating & Cooling
We appreciate this member taking the time to express her comments. It must go noted however that we only use “factory replacement parts” which carry an original factory design and at least a 1 year warranty. Many companies use “universal” parts which often carry 90 day (and at times no) warranties, and do not operate the equipment at its originally intended design. Factory parts (especially circuit boards) are more expensive because of their proprietary design and warranty. Additionally, we got the member temporary cooling at no charge. We do regret any miscommunication and certainly hope that this member has a wonderful experience with this repair and hope that we may be able to help her in the future.

The next morning our air conditioner was frozen up again. We called someone else for a second opinion. We were told that the unit that the freon had been poured into was totally rusted out and full of pit holes and the freon he had put in the evening before was totally gone. I called McClintock to apprise them of this information and to request a refund of the $187 they had charged. My husband also asked them for a quote on a new system. They kindly obliged on the refund. The sales rep is another story. He was haughty and arrogant. So long McClintock, we got our Trane system elsewhere. I did give them an A on the overall experience because they did immediately refund my money. They are a reputable company. Also, I have to give McClintock a bit of a break, especially the serviceman. It was hard to see the containment unit under the house because it was overgrown with weeds, etc. He should have seen the condition it was in, but he didn't. Not ENTIRELLY his fault. More due diligence. Also, their service calls and freon are by far the cheapest of most of their competitors. I think this was probably an isolated incident on a 35 year old home.
Description of Work: The gentleman that came out was very courteous and friendly and tried to revive our 15 year old system by filling it with freon.

I am very pleased with the outcome of the service call, from the beginning to the end, the staff at McClintock were professional and James Dyckman (serviceman) was very knowledgeable in his field. He was professional, polite and most of all honest. I highly recommend McClintock HVAC to anyone who may need service.
Description of Work: I came home from work on the hottest day of the year only to find the temperature in my house was hotter then it was outside, so I ran outside and found the fan wasn't turning on the air conditioner unit and it was very hot. I am now thinking the worst....I need a new air conditioner :( Being a woman and not knowing diddlysquat about HVAC, I joined Angie's List bc I wanted a reputable company to come evaluate the situation and after looking at the list decided on McClintock, their ratings were high and there were a lot of them. The women who answered the phone were professional, polite and courteous. They asked me a few questions and scheduled my appointment. The serviceman arrived on time, was so nice and professional, he took his time to explain the problem to me in a way I could understand, located the problem with the fan, fixed it, did the diagnostic test which turned out good and proceeded to tell me a contact was going bad, not bad yet, didn't try to sell me anything, wasn't pushy. I decided to go ahead and repair that piece while he was there and now I can use my air conditioner this summer without worries. James Dyckman was the serviceman and I have to say he was nothing but professional, polite and truly honest. I work in the local hospital system and asked him for a bunch of his business cards to pass out to my coworkers and friends because I think it's really hard to find honest and professional businesses out there today, especially when you are a woman who doesn't know much about HVAC. I would definitely call them and recommend James Dyckman and MCClintock HVAC to anyone.

My AC wasn't functioning so I put in a call to McClintock on Tuesday afternoon. The woman on the phone was very cordial and said that they were pretty busy but would let me know as soon as possible when they could come out. Less than 24 hours later she called to let me know they could come out later that day. The technician arrived in the time they said he would, looked over the system inside and out and diagnosed it as a lack of freon. He added a few lbs. of freon and then inspected an area where I had experienced leaks. He cleaned out a pipe of blockage and left me a tool to clean it out in the future if I have a leakage problem again. I was able to use my Angie's List coupon without a problem and enjoyed using McClintock.

These guys are fantastic - I could not be happier. I had some low readings on my carbon monoxide detector and they worked me in right away - on a Saturday in fact. They found not one but two culprits of the CO. One was an easy fix and the other was a bit more difficult. They made a small error on the fix and when I called they came back to correct it. They also did a thorough inspection and cleaned the system. They were prompt, curtious and very professional.

We obtained estimates from 3 heating and cooling companies and went with McClintock because they offered the best price. They came on the days they said they would be here, were punctual, cleaned up after themselves, and did a great job. They followed up afterwards and arranged for the inspection of our furnaces. They did all of the work while we were at work ourselves (We gave them our key.) and were extremely trustworthy. Not only did they replace our furnaces and do everything they had agreed to do in the estimate, they even raised the ductwork off the floor of our attic for no cost. We were very impressed by the quality of their service and would recommend them to anybody who needs heating or cooling work done. When it's time to replace our AC units, they're the company we'll call.

He was on time and very courteous. This company was very professional. They did not ask what the other companies name was or put the other company down at all and they did not charge me anything. I am going to go with their maintenance program, it does cost a bit more than what I paid with the other company, but I will be getting what I need and not oversold for something I do not.
Description of Work: They came out to give a second opinion. They came out immediately. They said that if it was over a certain amount for repair the second opinion did not cost anything I told him I was told I had a cracked heat exchanger and I wanted to know if it was really cracked. He spent over 45 min to an hour and took it apart and then brought the exchanger to me and we went outside to see if there were any cracks in the sunlight and we did not see anything anywhere. He reinstalled it and got the heater going and then checked it again and again no crack. He said that the other company probably looked at the rust line and thought it was a crack and you really cannot see it unless you pull it out to examine it.

I called McClintock and Charles called me back almost immediately. He came out and provided a professional presentation. A friend of mine used McClintock and highly recommended them. I referred them to a co-worker who replaced their HVAC system before I did and was very pleased. Ryan and Joel, who installed the new system, were very professional and personable. Brian, the Production Manager and Rob McClintock came out to make sure all was going well. Ryan and Joel cleaned up/vacuumed every day. The total installation took a little over two days. Everyone at McClintock was very easy to work with, from the lady who answered the phone to Rob McClintock himself. I highly recommend them.

I received friendly service right from my initial phone call. They sent out a technician within a couple of hours of the call. We did not have gas supply to our downstairs appliances. He found the issue and provided a temporary fix. He gave us an estimate for a permanent solution. He then came out about 10 days later to permanently fix the issue after contacting our furnace manufacturer, finding out the details of our warranty, and ordering the appropriate parts. We did not have to do a thing in that whole process - it was a completely stress free experience. Everyone we spoke with was friendly and seemed to be honest and straight forward. The cost seemed appropriate to the services rendered.

A well informed and competent team of people worked for us like clockwork. Charles came out and provided a description of our options and the various estimates. He was very helpful in clarifying options, giving pros and cons on options, answering our questions, and checking in at later points in time. Paul and Frank, the installing crew, did an excellent job of installing the system and working closely with us with regards to scheduling when they would come, answering questions, and keeping the house clean. Brian came out when the county zoning representative visited regarding the permits that are required. He also made minor changes in the system in response to the county's request. Even the owner, Rob McClintock, made a visit when the system was being installed to make sure all was going smoothly.

I bought my house in May 2009. As part of the negotiations, the seller provided a home warranty. After using the gas furnace a few times, it would not turn on. The home warranty company sent out a heating company to assess the problem. It was determined that the unit needed to be replaced. Rather than replacing it with a comparable unit, I wanted to take advantage of the $1,500. government tax credit and a $300 Piedmont Natural Gas credit for a high energy efficient unit. The company sent out by the warranty company gave me an estimate to upgrade to a high energy efficient unit and I immediately turned to Angie's List to get the names of other Heating companies to get more estimates for comparison. I called McClintock Heating & Cooling which was the company with the highest rating rating on Angie's List AND they also had a coupon on their website. I set up an appointment with Charles Gravely. He came out and looked at my existing unit and gave me an education on gas furnaces and variable speed. He showed me articles from the Charlotte Observer to back up his advice. He also showed me McClintock's Better Business Bureau rating (which is also an A & which I independently verified myself) and their practically perfect code inspection installation rate. Since my air conditioner is a Trane unit, I also wanted to buy a Trane furnace which is what McClintock specializes in. The first company's quote (who the warranty company sent) was $600 more than McClintock's quote. Because of McClintock's current Angie's List rating and after talking wth Charles, I knew I wanted to go with McClintock and did not call any other company for estimates. I took the cash option from the warranty company and then called Charles. After signing the contract, Brian Davis, the project manager, came out to verify the new furnace would fit in my existing space and to assess additional work that might need to be done. The two workmen showed up promptly at 8am on the date scheduled. They were very professional, knowledgeable, courteous and thoroughly cleaned up their work area after the installation was completed. They went above and beyond what was expected. For example, they labeled the different parts of the furnace for me (intake pipe, exhaust pipe, gas line, drain pipe, etc) and added insulation to a couple places that had not been previously insulated. Rob McClintock, the owner, even stopped by to check on everything. The whole installation process has been problem free and stress free. The new furnace carries a 10 year all parts warranty and a lifetime warranty for the heat exchanger. Although I do not expect any problems with the unit, I feel confident that if there is one, I can call Charles or even the owner, Rob, at any time and will get excellent customer service and immediate results. Another example of going above and beyond is that the company immediately mailed me the Piedmont Natural Gas rebate application with the furnace information filled out so that I only had to fill in my Piedmont Gas account number, address, sign it and mail it off. All information required for the rebate to be processed was attached as well as the Tax Credit Certification needed when filing taxes. I highly recommend using this company and will use them again, especially when the time comes for a new air conditioner.

From start to finish, a very satisfactory and professional experience. McClintock came out to the house to the estimate and did a very thorough inspection. Mr. Gravely gave me a competitive price with a detailed estimate and answered every question (we had three estimates total). After we agreed that they would do the work, Ryan showed up on time and started immediately. He kept me updated and called with questions and installation options when needed. It was great dealing with Ryan who did an excellent job as well as being speedy and clean. (Several neighbors commented that they saw Ryan and he was always working hard and how clean he left things). He even installed a light up by the furnace so that I don't have to haul up a flashlight when I crawl up to change the filter! Supervisor Brian came out with the County Inspector and followed through with any questions that we may have had. It was a very nice buying experience and we are happy with the service and the equipment that we purchased from McClintock.
Description of Work: Removed our old furnace, a/c, and duct work. They replaced the system with new furnace, a/c, duct work, and programmable thermostat. They also updated the electrical wiring to get it up to code and arranged for the inspection. They ran new vent piping for the exhaust for the furnace.

I scheduled the annual service after reading an article about the benefits of having these units serviced regularly. After installing the programmable thermostat I had purchased already (and programing the unit for us, a huge help), the McClintock representative identified a hole in our heat exchanger that was unsafe and required immediate repair or replacement. By law, we were required to have the heat off until the condition was repaired or the unit replaced. Fortunately, the temperatures were quite mild but I was a little miffed by having to call the company to prompt them to give me pricing and other information rather than their having been responsive to me immediately. Nevertheless, I did get information and a quick quote on a replacement unit. I thought their quote was very fair but ended up using a family friend to replace the existing unit. I would use McClintock again to service and for repairs if needed.

Furnace would not go on. Called and was able to get a technician scheduled the next morning. James came out first thing in the morning and took care of the problem at a very reasonable price. He then showed me how to fix the problem myself if it ever occurs again. He also removed some insulation that was causing my furnace to run rough. Very impressed with James and Mcclintock Co. He took the time and answered any questions I had. I will definitely use McClintock Heating and Cooling again for all my heating and cooling needs.

They were excellent and we were very happy with them. They were very professional. The representative came over and didn't try to sell me an entire unit, until I had to tell him what I needed. Originally we were going to put in a heat pump, but then the furnace went out and we had to replace it, so we just also got a new air conditioner. We got a rebate back because it was high efficiency and they also gave us an Angie's List discount. I think the price was fair and we would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: We used McClintock about ten days ago to put in a new furnace and air conditioner.

From start to finish was GREAT.They said that they would show up at 8:00am & pulled in our driveway at 7:59am. Wes asked if i wanted to watch,so i said yes, i did not know anything at an HVAC unit, I came from up-state NY where we had oil furnace & hot water heat. Wes explained what her was doing & why, said the company would call us in the spring to check out the AC unit. Was very happy with the company,i highly recommend
Description of Work: Wes checked out & serviced our heating system, Wes took readings & pressures, & removed the blower to get inside to check for cracks in unit and coils.
