I was not pleased with the service when the man asked what the problem was and I told him he replied by telling me, "It was normal" and rather than let leaving and saving us the money he said, "Well I'm here now so it's going to cost you anyway." He then proceeded to do a diagnostic check that I didn't feel was necessary. This is the 2nd time we've used this business and were were very unhappy.

After I had reviewed the 2 quotations, I called McClintock to advise them that I had chosen another company to do the work. They were courteous in their responses and thanked me for calling them.
Description of Work: Very professional representative, knowledgeable, with a quality product. I did not choose them based on price, all other factors appeared equal. McClintock was a larger company than the one I chose. No physical work was done.

I have used Mcclintock previously with great results, this was no exception. I hate that I had to deal with them and this problem but appreciate the fact they make it as stress free as possible. The technicians are great and very knowledgeable and really enjoy their work. I have recommend them to others and will continue to use them.

I never thought I'd spend over $5,000 unexpectedly and walk away feeling like I got a good deal, but somehow with McClintock, I managed to do just that. It started when our upstairs heating unit stopped working, and we needed to find someone to come take a look. We started with Angie's List (as we always do with this type of thing), and found McClintock had a) awesome reviews and ratings; and b) a coupon for $30 off the regular price of a service call. The guy came out, was in the attic for 30 minutes or so, then came down and said 'unfortunately you need a new furnace'. He couldn't give me pricing right there which was annoying at the time, but they quickly set up an appointment for their sales guy, Marlon, to come out and present us with options. They had 4 options from Trane (which is the only brand name I know in HVAC, and know it to make quality products), ranging from low end and inefficient to high end and efficient (and pricey!). We chose the 2nd from the top, at a cost of $4350. (2 Angie's List-related perks that lessened the blow -- the $69 we spent for the service call was applied to the total cost, and they also had a coupon for another $150 off). Since we were stuck shelling out a good chunk of our House Fund already, we decided to ask them for an estimate to realign a spiderweb of ductwork in the basement so we could start the process of finishing our basement. They came in at $700 to realign everything, and another $600 to add 3 vents and a return so that we'll have HVAC in our new basement! We thought that was a fair price so we moved ahead with that as well. The only 'snag' in the whole process was that the sales guy was out sick for a week and forgot to schedule our appointment once he set it up with me, but he was extremely apologetic, swore that in 15 years (or whatever he said) of doing business nothing like this had every happened, and they took $100 off the price for the inconvenience. Apology accepted. Once they came out, they were professional, efficient, cleaned up their mess completely, and everything "looks" to be of very good quality (though I admit I have no idea what I'm talking about, only that nothing was sloppily done). They also offer 12-months 0%-interest financing through Wells Fargo which we took advantage of to lessen the blow of a surprise $5000 expense. I will recommend McClintock to anyone who asks, and will most certainly be using them again (though hopefully not any time soon!)

Our family came home from summer vacation to find the upstairs temperature around 85 degrees. Turns out our compressor was bad. We called several local HVAC installers for quotes. McClintock had the best value for the money. They were not quite the cheapest (although they were close), but the additional services included in the quote helped us choose them. Plus, we found favorable reviews which made us feel good about them. Since it was summer and they were quite busy, as was most all HVAC companies, it was about a week or so before they could install the unit. In the meantime, they loaned us 3 window units for our upstairs. We were happy with the service. The installers were prompt and professional. I would recommend them.

I have been very pleased with McClintock's service. I have used other providers on Angie's List and I believe I get more for my money with McClintock. I feel the servicemen do a more thorough inspection and cleaning than other providers I have used. All of the support and service people have been prompt, polite, and knowledgeable. In at least one case they correctly identified a problem that the contractor that installed the system could not remedy.

Much better than I expected. The gentleman was here for at least 90 minutes, and explained in detail everything that was going on with our systems (they are both 20 years old). Despite our old systems, he did not try to sell us anything, and did not find anything "wrong". I was extremely impressed with his professionalism, and thoroughness.

My first call met a well informed and polite woman who scheduled service for the next day. Unfortunately, the technician was delayed. They did call to tell me I had to be pushed back to Wednesday which was fine since this was not an emergency call. However, an hour before the technician was to arrive an office support person called and said there was a problem. They couldn't see the Angie's list purchase and they needed the coupon code (which was provided during the original call) Since I was at an empty house with no internet service this meant a trip up the street to Starbucks. After I left there and was headed home they called back to say they needed me to print out the coupon. I was extremely frustrated. If they had asked for this originally I could have had it. But in the 11th hour it seemed quite unfair. The tech showed up and I have nothing but glowing remarks for him. He was polite, explained the problem in terms I could understand and was very efficient. In the end they worked out the issue with the coupon so the story ends well. I was expecting to be told I needed a whole new system and instead only had to make some minor repairs. A great job and I would definitely use them again....just make sure you print the coupon!

Our natural gas furnace wasn't heating our home well. Suspecting more than a tune-up may be in order, I called McClintock for their tune-up special anyway (on their web site), hoping that would solve our problem. I was pleased with the professionalism and courtesy of the service representatives over the phone. Technician Ryan discovered a rusted-out heat exchanger and took video of the unit and how it was malfunctioning, using his iPhone. He promptly confirmed that our Carrier unit was under warranty, but that we would need to wait several days for the replacement parts to arrive. A second appointment was scheduled after the parts arrived, and upon installation/replacement by techs Ryan and Rick, it was discovered that my condensate pump was also broken (probably what led to excess moisture--especially in summers when running A/C--that led to rusting out of furnace). The pump was not under warranty but easily replaced. Rick used his iPhone to video our newly-rebuilt unit after it was up and running, and showed us the rusted out unit after it was removed. After about 7-and-a-half hours of labor over 2 visits (and 6 days without heat), we now have HOT natural gas heat in our home again! I'm sure a few other companies could have taken care of the service work in just as timely a manner, but working with McClintock on a pricing arrangement really exceeded my expectations. I simply asked if their was any help they could give us on the labor estimate. I was given a 15% discount on labor in exchange for signing up for the annual maintenance plan (A/C tune up in spring and furnace tune-up in fall), and they applied my furnace tune-up to the plan price, leaving a small balance owed. I was planning on having my first ever A/C tune up anyway in spring 2013 on my 10-year-old Carrier unit, so that helped out a great deal. The labor cost was more than I wanted to pay, but I believe that business owners and their employees need to earn a fair wage, and I also believe that generally speaking, you get what you pay for. I didn't chose McClintock over "low price" ratings to begin with; I chose them for their reputation of quality and integrity. In addition, they took care of all of the warranty-related issues with Carrier on my behalf. I would highly recommend McClintock to any of my family and friends, and I will do business with them again in the future.
Description of Work: Natural gas furnace system inspection and tune-up led to discovery of rusted-out heat exchangers and a broken condensate pump on my nearly-10-year-old Carrier unit. The heat exchangers were replaced with parts under warranty, and the condensate pump was also replaced by a unit from McClintock.

They showed up quickly and on time and were professional. I had 2 issues. First was there was a coupon on Angies List that had the normally $99 diagnostic for $69. I mentioned the coupon to the technician who didn't know anything about it. I didn't realize that you had to purchase this through the website. When the driver than charged me full price it was $89. I was a bit confused and looked at the coupon the next day. They raise the price of the service to make the coupon look like a better deal. When I called the office to ask about the coupon the day after the service call I didn't get a very good explanation and they would not honor the coupon. I was surprised considering I was given a $1400 quote for the repair, $20 didn't seem like a big deal to try and get the job. After shopping around the quote I found theirs to be the highest out of 6 by a great deal. The next highest quote was $1100, but I got the work done for a great deal less. I felt like they were trying to see me a new furnace.

The coupon this member is referring to is an Angie’s List Storefront coupon. As with all Angie’s List Storefront offers; it must be pre-purchased on the Angie’s List website before service is provided. This information, along with other restrictions is clearly stated on the coupon on the Angie’s List website and all pricing in the coupon is accurate book pricing as required by our agreement with Angie’s List. In addition, our agreement with Angie’s List does not allow us to discount “on site” as this member requested.

The process from beginning to end could not have gone any smoother. We scheduled a visit from McClintock's representative to provide us with an estimate and recommendations. We were emailed the rep's name and picture prior to his scheduled arrival, along with a description of what he would do, approximate time required and things we might need to have available for him (for example - a floor plan of the house.). His name was Randy Race and he arrived right on time. Randy is not only an extremely personable gentleman, he's also extremely knowledgeable regarding all aspects of design, engineering and installation of HVAC systems. He first performed a diagnostic load calculation which requires a considerable effort involving measuring and diagraming. This information is then entered into a laptop computer which generates a printout from the printer he has in his truck. He then went under the house to inspect the ductwork and then into the attic. He took pictures and then printed them, in color, on the printer in his truck. He reviewed the pictures with us explaining any changes he recommended. Some were to correct mistakes made when the original system was installed. Randy stated when providing us with his estimate that they did not seek to be the low cost bidder for a job, but to provide the best and most complete service possible, resulting in a more pleasing experience for the customer and a more efficiently operating system. We told him that's what we were looking for. We obtained one other estimate which was considerably higher and did not include a load calculation unless you purchased one of their systems. Also, when presenting us with his estimate, Randy provided "good, better, and best" scenarios with a range of prices. We told him it was our intention to get the best we could get and that was why we selected McClintock for consideration. I emailed him and told him we had decided to use McClintock's services. He responded with a couple of proposed installation dates and scheduled a return date to bring the contract to us for execution and payment of the 50% deposit. He also had the Production manager Brian Davis meet him at the house to review the installation site and diagram it for the service team that would be doing the installation. The installation crew arrived promptly on the scheduled day. They came to the door and introduced themselves and immediately went to work removing the old system. They worked steadily through the day with no complications. Around mid-morning, Rob McClintock, the owner of the company, stopped by to introduce himself and check on the progress of the installation. He gave us his business card and encouraged us to call him personally if we had any concerns. He also called back the day after the installation to make sure we were completely satisfied. We purchased a ComfortLink II digital thermostat, which is WiFi capable. A separate installer showed up mid-afternoon to install and program it. This was after the new system was up and running, allowing a test of the thermostat as well as the heating and cooling of the system. All work as well as cleanup was completed by 5:00 pm. They even spread new pine needles around the unit to match the area around it. A few days later, Randy returned for a final inspection and to discuss with us any concerns or questions we might have. He also took more pictures under the house to allow us to see the completed work (without crawling under ourselves.) It's now been one month since the new system was installed. As is their normal practice a service technician is scheduled to arrive this afternoon to perform a complete service check to make sure the system is performing optimally. As I started out by saying, it couldn't have gone more smoothly. Spending that much money is not pleasant, so if you have to do it, it's nice to have it be such a pleasant experience, dealing with such nice people. All the individuals we met seemed to be ideally suited for their respective responsibilities. Especially Randy, a genuinely nice man.

From start to finish a very professional company. Everything came together as outlined by their account rep on their proposal. From financing, hauling off the old system, installing the new system, clean up, checking operation, and instructing us on operation - all was performed as layed out. The monthly savings on our electric usage is very satisfying - we save an average of 50% of our monthly finance payment. This is one company that in our case, delivered exactly what they promised - we highly recommend their service.

I am very pleased with my entire experience with McClintock. I highly recommend them to anyone. This is a company that is truly interested in doing everything right with the highest level of professionalism from top to bottom. They are not the cheapest, but the slightly extra cost is absolutely worth it in my opinion. It has been a year now since the installation, and I have definitely seen a savings in my utility bills. I hardly ever adjust my thermostat now. It switches automatically between heating and cooling, and I have the parameters set almost perfectly for different times of the day throughout the week. I love it.

We were about to close on our house when we learned that we needed to do repairs to satisfy our FHA loan. Usually, the seller would do these repairs, but since it was a short sale, the seller was broke. We called several places begging for their first available appointment. McClintock was the most responsive and moved things around to accommodate our rushed schedule. They got everything finished the day before the final inspection and were near, orderly, thorough, and professional throughout. When the inspector said she was going to fail us, they were ready to send someone out within an hour to investigate. (It turned out the batteries in the thermostat had died and their work was flawless.) We have called them to schedule the replacement of our hot water heater to a tankless model and plan to use them for the foreseeable future.

I was very pleased with the services I received. He was a little late in getting there but it was due to traffic coming from Charlotte on the interstate, not a big deal, only 30 mins after I expected him. When the serviceman showed up he was very friendly. He asked to see the unit and got to work. Once he was able to override the inside system and saw that the unit functioned correctly he went inside to diagnose the problem. He quickly determined that my thermostat was bad. I told him I would replace it and walked me thru what wires would go where in the one he recommended. We chatted a few minutes about our families and he left. But his professional services did not end there. Before leaving he told me to call if I had any issues installing the thermostat. I bought the brand that he recommended and started to install only to realize that some of my wiring did not match up. After looking on the internet and playing with it I finally got it to work appropriately. But on Monday I called to talk to him to verify what I had done and if I had programmed it correctly to the rating of my heatpump. The serviceman once again spent about 15 to 20 mins of unpaid time, by myself, to walk me through what wire color went where and how to properly program it. I will soon be in need of a new unit...they may have just got a new customer for life.
Description of Work: My heatpump was not putting out any heat when in the "heat" function. The serviceman came by did a check outside on the unit and then inside with the thermostat removed. He was able to successfully get the unit to run. It was discovered then that my thermostat must be bad. He asked if I would like to purchase one through them or install one myself. I told him that I would install it myself. He put everything back in the order that he found it and left. Before going he talked me through what brand he recommended buying and what I needed to do to install.
