All went well, but we kept smelling gas. Called the gas company (Piedmont) at 9 p.m. on a weeknight to find and fix the leak. They found the leak was caused by a valve that had not been properly installed/tightened by the McClintock installer. McClintock was very responsive when we called them with the report the next day, and worked with us on a suitable solution. We are happy with their response, but would have of course preferred that their installer would have done the work correctly to begin with.

The service was good. They were on time, did the job, gave me some advise on what the problem was, and he was very helpful.He was friendly. My AC wasn't working, and so they were able to come out, and fill up freon, and it was a great deal for $99.
Description of Work: We had purchased a big deal for McClintock Heating Cooling & Electrical Inc. They serviced the AC. They came and fixed the AC, it wasn't working.

This is an exceptional group of people. They replaced one of our units a few years ago. We have an maintenance agreement with them. We have never in the many years we have used them for service ever had an issue. They have some of the best people that do great work without making a mess in your house. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing AC work.

It's going great still with McClintock Heating Cooling & Electrical. It's all been going great. They were very professional and they seem to be a local contractor instead of one of the big local chains. They don't have any downsides. They seem to know what they were doing, I didn't have any issues with them and I would recommend them.

Consultation & Estimate: this was a very pleasant experience with no pressure in the sales. Ample time was spent explaining the product and process in great detail. I felt very comfortable right from the start. Office Staff: the office staff has was very responsive and accurate with paperwork and scheduling. Plan: I was told the project would take 3 days. I was told who would show each day/time and what they would be doing. The plan was executed exactly as was initially described. Management: on separate occasions both the owner and managing engineer made in-person visits to ask me how everything was going and to personally inspect the work being done. There was also a follow up post-installation inspection to ensure final quality. Work site: the work crew was very friendly and answered all of my questions during the process. They also kept the work site clean and they were very considerate of their impact on our home and personal space. Final product: our new HVAC system works great! Problems: 1. A couple of small screws were left in our at the end of the first day. I picked them up and mentioned this to the crew the next day. They reacted very well and they made sure there was no further garbage left on site. 2. Two months after installation our AC started coming on as it became warmer outside. We noticed the downstairs floor was vibrating a bit and made some noise within the house. We contacted McClintock about the issue and they came the next morning (less than 24 hrs!) with a two man crew. Spent half a day working on re positioning the AC line and sealing the foundation exit to reduce the vibrations. This was a "cosmetic" fix, NOT a functional one and yet still McClintock responded quickly and under full warranty to correct the noise issue. We could not have been more pleased with their response. Summary: McClintock isn't the cheapest option; however, their responsibility to care, quality and follow up are very evident. They are worth every penny. We look forward to continuing our business with McClintock int he future.

The service technicians had a cancellation that morning and came right over to our house. They inspected the unit, let me know what the problem was, got my okay, and fixed it with parts they had stocked in their truck. They were professional and polite and the heat works again! Excellent experience.
Description of Work: Our downstairs heating unit stopped working at some point during the night. We called McClintock's office first thing in the morning and the technicians were assigned and came and fixed the problem by 10:30 or 11:00am. Very prompt and professional.

I quoted four local and highly advertised companies to replace our HVAC system and ductwork. McClintock was by far the only company who listened to what I wanted and required to make my assessment, and gave it to me. I don't spend this type of money easily and without research in knowing what I'm getting for those dollars. When quoting this kind of work, and determining what system you need, I found I wasn't getting apples to apples for comparisons when putting quotes side by side. I went back to two other companies 2X for more information and still didn't get what I wanted. Perhaps I'm not your typical customer, in that I had an energy cost assessment done based on my last year's energy bills to determine how large a unit and what type I really needed. The CEM I had do the assessment and quote comparison was thorough, and when he raised questions, McClintock answered them promptly and logically and accurately. Randy came for the initial walk-thru and asked to see the drawings of our home, and took photos of those drawings and used that information when preparing his quote. Everyone else quoted 400 sq feet more of heat/cooling space than what was needed -- those 400 feet were my garage. Randy knew I didn't need to heat/cool my garage. We discussed several options for our needs, and Randy quoted them all in detail. I requested the model numbers, manufacturer info, ratings, calculations, duration of work, etc. and he gave me everything I requested the first time. The other quoted companies ignored my request for more information, or feared I would use their calculations and give them to a competing bidder. Or they didn't want to do the initial calculations prior to my quote and would "hone" them after I'd made my decision to go with them. While I was trying to make this fair across all bidders, that would be unethical on my part. In McClintock's process I appreciated this was a respectful process between provider and customer and that I was treated as such. McClintock wasn't the least expensive quote, nor were they the most expensive quote, but they were the most thorough and transparent with their information. McClintock said this work would take a full 5 days and they were right. We had special circumstances, my husband works 3rd shift, so working thru the morning and early afternoon relatively quiet was important too, and McClintock's crew honored and provided that as well. They were professional, clean, wore covered shoes in the house after working outside in the mud, etc. They cleaned up every day and took my old insulation / ductwork with them. No trash was left behind or blew around the yard on a daily basis. A full explanation of the system that was installed was given at programming. They are available for questions, if I have any, even now. Scheduling of post-installation inspections went smoothly too. Our home has been warm throughout this bitter winter and when I consider the total experience with McClintock, I can honestly say their quality of work and professionalism throughout the process exceeded my expectations. After 19 years of service we decided to replace our old HVAC system. We contacted 4 reputable local companies within the Charlotte area for inspections / quotations etc all submitted same but we felt very comfortable right from the start with McClintock heating and air , they took their time evaluating our needs and Randy the comfort consultant explained any questions we asked. McClintock was not the most expensive nor the least but there again we felt very comfortable. After we signed the contract the production manager Brian came out to assess the job re- code and permits etc all of which they dealt with. On the scheduled date the two techs Joel and Simon arrived bang on time and went to work pulling out the old system and installing the new one, again Brian came out to check that every thing was going to plan which it was. Right from the start this job was to be a two day job whereas the other companies said one day and I can see why it was two days, as to the difficulties of our crawl space and attention to detail of the two techs. As it was very cold and snowing they provided us with temp heat which was great. On the second day the installation was completed including installing lights in the crawl space for future service calls, they reinsulated our existing ductwork where needed replaced the crawl space door which they had to remove to get the air handler in and did a great job on cleaning up. Even though our old system was working with no problems we immediately could feel the difference in comfort with the new one. After 30 days and six months McClintock will perform a performance evaluation to make sure everything is upto capacity and efficiency. McClintock does everything to code and does not cut corners also keeps you informed every step of the way Special thanks to all the McClintock team, both in the field and in the office for a job well done. I must say McClintock went out of their way to help keep my family warm. They came and replaced the furnace on a day where we had snow and ice on the ground and were able to get everything finished and provide heat to my house on a day when we really needed it. I have used McClintock to replace both furnaces in my home in the past few years and their service is outstanding. I would recommend them to anyone.

I purchased a big deal from Angie's List. I was out of refringent. I had two options, either a refill or to have the unit checked for leaks. The check for the leak was $200. It was a leak and I had had it pumped up before. It was a downstairs unit. Basically it was very expensive; roughly $160 a pound. The option was that I could pay $200 more and they would find the leak, but it did not mean they could repair the leak, and that might cost an arm and a leg if they found it. They even said that they did not know where it was going to be. So, I ended up spending $500 to pump 3 pounds of refrigerent into the unit and then only six weeks later it was gone. The leak that I had was much greater than I had anticipated. So, here I was having spent $500 on the Big Deal and it was all gone. Then I used somebody that a friend had recommended. He came out, looked at it and checked the leak before they pumped anything in and before they did that they said 90% of the time it is in the coil unit. He did not charge me anything for checking the leak, as it was $200 to figure out the leak, whereas the McClintock representative charged me $200 for the same. The leak was exactly where he thought it would be, so he said okay here it is. It would be $1400 to change the unit and then pump Freon in, and all went great. The guy came the night that I called him and he was also there the day after with another man. They fixed everything and I had a chilled unit once more. So, I go back to this McClintock as they wanted $200 to find the leak. They charged $160 a pound and this guy that came and fixed it for me, he actually charged me a third of that per pound. So, McClintock had got my $500-600 and did not explain the issue. The second guy came and said I am going to do the leak for free, you had it before, we have been here before, you are a good customer and I spent only $500. I am not going to use them again. The process was probably followed, but whoever came out here was not looking necessarily out for my best interest. I felt like if he would have gone the extra mile and would have at least educated me a little bit better I could have been able to make a better decision as a customer. So, after I had seen what somebody could do when there is a good service, I was really disappointed with the service that I had received from McClintock. They were punctual. Regarding responsiveness, they did not explain things thoroughly enough based on the experience that they have in the field.
Description of Work: McClintock Heating Cooling & Electrical, Inc fixed a leak for me and gave me an AC inspection with cleaning, tune up and up to 1 pound of refrigerant included.

I would like to thank this member for sharing his thoughts regarding our visit last summer. It is true that Freon (R-22) prices last summer where the highest this industry has ever seen as reported in this Angie's List article. (http://www.angieslist.com/articles/what-fair-price-r-22.htm) Depending on when a contractor purchased the Freon had a huge impact on the end sale price as the prices fluctuated wildly as we had times when our end price was under 1/2 of what this member experienced. It is unfortunate that this member had this experience and hopefully in the future we can assist him with his HVAC needs again. Rob McClintock

The repairman from McClintock told me I had two problems with my furnace, a switch and a control board, one cost $440 and the other $468. The control board was going to have to be ordered and would take 2-3 days; oh, and I also had to pay $89 for the service call. My Angie's List coupon was going to provide $35 off the cost of the repair. When I remembered I had a home warranty policy and called them, they told me I had to use their company to do the repairs. I paid McClintock the service call fee and thanked them for coming out and they left. Today when Airmarc came out the repairman told me I did NOT need a new control board, and that whoever was working on the system last had wired it incorrectly. He was here 45 minutes and replaced the switch and the heat was fixed and he left. Before he left he did say he hated when people ripped off customers and asked me how much McClintock was going to charge me for the control board. He told me that was why he opened his own company; because he worked for two previous companies who ripped customers off and he didn't like doing it.
Description of Work: The repairman only inspected my furnace and told me what was wrong with it - halfway through I recalled I had a home maintenance warranty that covered this type of repair and called only to find out I had to use their repair company.

Thanks to this member for bringing this to my attention. I have since visited house to inspect the furnace and verified the claims of the 2nd company personally. The Igniter that our technician condemned appeared to have been replaced with a part by the warranty servicing company with a date code of (0524)2005. The circuit board had not been replaced, however the symptom that our technician experienced was not present and the furnace seemed to be operating normally. I make no excuses, apparently our technician made a mistake and that is not acceptable. I accept full responsibility for this apparent over sight. I apologized to the member and refunded all amounts paid to us. Rob McClintock

Installers did a great job and very courteous, and careful. It took them 3 full days and part of another to complete the job, 1 day for the upstairs system in the attic, and the rest for the downstairs system in the crawl space. But I was glad they took their time and did the job right. The new system has performed very well so far during some of of the coldest winter weather we've had in years. My gas bill and power bill are lower thanks to the more efficient systems.
Description of Work: Replaced my 26 year old gas furnaces and air conditioning with new Trane 95% efficient gas furnace and air conditioning unit downstairs and new 80% gas furnace upstairs.

We awoke the morning of 01/08/14 to a very cold house. Our furnace was not coming on. I called McClintock and they were able to get someone to our house within an hour who was just finishing another job in the area (otherwise it would have been the next day because they were so busy dealing with the problems caused by the record cold). Darren arrived as promised and promptly went to work. After about 30 minutes of testing, he came to the conclusion that the mother board was bad. Then, in a moment of inspiration, as well as conscientiousness, he thought of one other thing that might be happening: the pressure switch was dropping when the flame tried to light due to a build up of water in the trap due to a frozen drain. He drained the built up water and the furnace was fixed. All this for only the cost of a service call. His extra thoughtfulness and dedication saved us a lot of money. Darren is a star and I would opine that McClintock is fortunate to have him in their service!

Had it been an option, I would not have entered a grade. But since it's not an option, I gave a grade of C because that's half-way between an A and an F. Most of our experience with McClintock has been very good and would easily have earned an A. But a recent aspect of it was terrible--had we heeded the advice of a McClintock technician, we would have replaced a furnace that doesn't currently need replacement and spent several thousand dollars doing so. This recent aspect clearly merited an F. To be more specific: we have been doing business with McClintock for more than five years. It provided us with a new air conditioner at a price that was lower than that of any other company, and over these years has done a fine job of providing routine service. But during a recent winter tune-up, the tech said that the carbon monoxide (CO) level in our bedroom was so high that he had to shut down the furnace immediately (which he did) and that we needed a new furnace. We received a proposal from McClintock for a new furnace and then asked another service provider to also give us a proposal as well as to confirm the CO problem. When the person from this other provider turned the furnace back on, he said we didn't need a new furnace because he couldn't detect any CO. Since that opinion was the opposite of what McClintock's tech had told us, we then asked a third company to test for CO in the house and the furnace. The tech for that company also said there was no CO. Moreover, we bought a new digital CO monitor and placed it directly in front of the vent in our bedroom for several days during which the furnace was operating. This new detector, too, indicated that there was no CO. When we informed Mr. McClintock that--contrary to what his company's tech had said-- there was no evidence of CO in our house and that we didn't need a new furnace, he came to our house along with the company's service manager. They confirmed that there was no CO problem and that we didn't need a new furnace. Mr. McClintock agreed to reimburse us for the cost of our getting second and third opinions from the two other companies. Moreover, to compensate us for all the inconvenience and time we spent as a result of the McClintock tech's erroneous report about dangerous levels of CO, Mr. McClintock also offered to waive the fee for next year's service contract if we decided to continue doing business with the company. We have accepted his offer and hope that the service will be as good as it was until this recent terrible experience.

Our second year in our new home our AC had to be replaced. We decided it would be best to split our home into 2 zones and replace the entire unit with a TRANE (both heating and air). McClintock had the best deals and best accreditation. The service personnel were prompt and courteous.

They respond very quickly. I think they are very honest and do not try to sell or push parts on you because you have an older system. We have used companies in that past that will do that. Years ago we used Hackney heating and Cooling until the owner retired. Hackney ran a very honest business and we are pleased to have found a company that operates the same way. You hope you don't have to call heating and cooling but with a large 22-year old house with two units, you know you will at some point. So we are glad we have found this company.
Description of Work: Furnace went out on 12/10 provider came out tried to use a universal part without success so came out next morning with correct part.

It was a very unpleasant experience. The service call was made on a Monday with service promised for that afternoon. We were called to say that the tech could not make it until the next day. The next day we were callled to tell us that the service tech we requested would not be coming, but another tech was coming. Tech said that the heat exchanger needed replacing. The part would have to be ordered and it would take a day or two to get it in. It was finally installed two days after the initial call. Kathy called the owner of the property six time to get a credit card number for the repair when the owner was in a meeting and could not come to the phone. She was very rude. I asked for the old part to be left at the property, and this was not done. The part could not be returned to me for one week.
Description of Work: Person, Kathy, who answers the phone is very rude. Service was promised for one day and was delayed until the next day in the coldest week of the year. The service tech requested did not do the job, as I was told he would. It was scheduled with another tech I have used this company on a number of occasions for various properties and the service is getting poorer and poorer. I will not be calling them again.

I appreciate this member taking time to post their thoughts concerning our visits last week. With the volume of calls and the extent of the repairs (and parts) needed, I am happy that we were able to complete this in a couple of days. This member does insist on having one particular tech at every visit which can be challenging during high volume call times such as we were experiencing.
