The planning and design service was excellent. Mapped out exactly what we were looking for and was very easy to work with. Liked the mock up designs as to how the project would look with existing house and landscape. The demolition , construction and building was planned out and went smoothly despite having to deal with 2 hurricane events during the process.. The payment schedule was planned out across the project and was easy to follow by using the online planning tool. They were very easy to talk to and discuss changes as the project progressed. They kept the changes and cost updated on the online tool so there was no big surprise at the end of the project. We were very happy we selected DiFabion to build the garage and would look to them again for future remodeling needs.

Mike is a designer and does not know construction. Mike provided very general quote, required a non-negotiable $1500 design fee, missed several design elements we discussed, and when asked to consider these and provide some critical details that would impact price, he simply disengaged and told me to go elsewhere. He did advise that he would provide a general quote to be following by a more specific quote. However, this level of inflexibility is a warning to anyone considering large complex projects. A Designer and General Contractor must be willing to engage in discussion.

Response from DiFabion Remodeling Inc
Hello Mr. [Member Name Removed], Thank you for your feedback. Since [Member Name Removed] is busy taking care of our clients, I will respond on his behalf. Although design is a big part of what we do (and enjoy), construction is the field in which we excel. Specifically, residential remodeling. This is evident by a 17+ year track record of producing beautiful new home transformations, large and small, for hundreds of clients and their families, most of which are direct referrals and repeat customers. Our knowledge in the field of construction is further supported by years of continuing education and several of the highest industry certifications including Master Certified Remodeler, Certified Remodeler, Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler, Certified Green Professional, Universal Design Professional, among others. With our extensive knowledge and experience in the industry, we have developed a time-tested, design/build process for our clients that provides an exceptional remodeling experience built on Trust, Vision, Pride, and Family, our company core values. This process has not only contributed to the success (and reputation) of our company, but it has allowed us to exceed our clients' expectations in almost every way. However, we realize our company and process may not be the best fit for everyone we meet, which is typically determined in the consultation phase of our process. At our initial face to face meeting, we gather information about a particular project, uncover the specific needs and wants of a client, and present our process to see if we're the right fit to move forward together. In many cases, we have the opportunity to move forward to this next design phase, but there are some who do not see the value in our process, which we absolutely respect. This was the case with your project, which was determined after our initial consultation. Even though we will not be working together, we greatly appreciate the opportunity and your willingness to give us an A rating for our Responsiveness, Punctuality, and Professionalism. We wish you the best of luck moving forward with your project. Sincerely, Michael DiFabion (Jr.), CR, CGP, UDCP, LRRP

We started with an informal “sit-down” – what were we trying to accomplish. And, more importantly… WHY? How did we like to live…what did we do every day, what did we like in our current home and what would we love to have going forward? Essentially, they wanted to design a home around how we lived, rather than simply renovating what we had today. After a nominal up-front payment to complete the plans, Mike and his team spent weeks designing and estimating an ideal plan for us – they had so many creative, transformational ideas….and when we had thoughts as well, they incorporated those that made sense – and (rightly so) challenged us on some of our ideas that were a bit…”misguided”. Anyway, when all was said and done we had a design that flowed naturally for every “use case” we could imagine: Thanksgiving dinner with our 5 kids and (someday we hope!) dozens of grandkids; alumni club BBQ’s with 60-80 people; large team dinners and neighborhood block parties; and perhaps most importantly, everyday life of breakfast, getting kids off to school, lunch and snacks at the counter, Sunday night dinners with the family. In hindsight, after being back in the home for 6 months, we can honestly say that there is NOT ONE THING we would do differently….incredible. On to the construction phase. First, Mike and the team sat down with us and gave us a week-by-week plan on what would happen and when. And given the size of the job, it was amazing that everything went so well, and on time! Of course, in any significant renovation, stuff will go wrong. And the sign of a great builder is what they do when that happens – and Mike does whatever it takes to make sure that everything is 100% perfect! How does he do this so well? A lot of it comes down to his contractors – either they work for him directly, or he has worked with them for so many years, it’s like they are “part of the family” – and you always do right by your family! And so the result – the level of detail and perfectionism in the finished product is literally flawless. My father (now retired) stayed with us for a week and all he said was “Wow – I’m impressed”. And that’s saying something! Finally, I want to say a few words about the team. Mike has literally hand-selected every person on the team and each one was so good at what they did. Especially Sara, the designer – she really felt personally responsible for understanding us, our family, our lives – and how to design the house (especially the kitchen) to fit the way we lived. By the time we were done, all of them – Mike, Sara, Scott, Rick, and Doug – truly felt like part of our family. We almost did not want the job to be over (wait what?!?). And when we offered to throw them a housewarming party, to show our appreciation for all of their hard work over the 9 months, they said – “Great idea – bring all your friends and neighbors, and we will host it.” I mean, who does that?!? Without hesitation, would definitely recommend DiFabion Remodeling to anyone and everyone – small jobs or big jobs …. you’ll be writing a similar review when he’s done!!!
Description of Work: First, some background on the reviewer. My father owned a construction company and built multi-million-dollar homes in Fairfield County Connecticut; I spent my high school summers helping him and his contractors - and learned the right way and the wrong way. I personally have renovated a condo and a single-family home – some myself, some using contractors. I know when people “cut corners” to save time and money – and when people do a quality job because, simply, it’s the right thing to do. Mike DiFabion and his team are the perfect example of what you get when people know what they are doing and love to do a great job for their clients. Our relationship started with a small job several years ago – take out a wall to open up two rooms. Simple and straightforward, but we got the full deal – a clear and comprehensive estimate, on-time performance (start and finish), continuous communications, and such attention to detail that you would have sworn that the house was originally built that way. Most contractors would have sent the “B” team for a job like that – Mike does not have a “B” team. So when it came time for the full-house renovation, we knew whom to call.

Communication was great. We had a schedule and had weekly communication on status of materials, work schedule, etc. If there was a delay, we knew in advance what was happening. The people that worked on our house were professional, cleaned up daily and were a pleasure to talk with. We would strongly recommend DiFabion for consideration on any remodeling project.

Let me preface this by relating I have a project management background, so I'm hyper critical when it comes to, well, everything. From the initial meeting with Michael DiFabion our remodeling project has been a pleasure! Extremely prepared, professional and detailed oriented, the entire Difabion team exceeded our expectations. Communication is a priority with this firm; we were kept up to date throughout our project. And, when the inevitable glitch/issue reared its head, we were informed immediately, and provided options on the way forward. Our project was completed on schedule and within budget. I can't say enough good things about Michael, Scott, Sara, Rick, Susan, and the rest of the Difabion family! Without hesitation I highly recommend DiFabion Remodeling Inc. for your home improvement or remodeling projects, and plan to use Difabion again in the near future. Sincerely, S. Barnes

When we began searching for a remodeler for our project, we knew that we wanted someone with a good reputation, a willingness to communicate openly with us, as well as recognize and respect our budget. Basically, we were looking for the right "fit" for us. We were trusting that was something we would know when we found it. We had been in our house for 10 years prior to this remodel and knew exactly what we wanted to achieve in the space from a design perspective as well as materials used. We interviewed several well known remodeling companies as well as one lesser known company. We presented each of them with our very detailed wish list as well as our ideal budget. Several companies blatantly disregarded our wish list and/or budget but not DiFabion. We met with Michael (Jr) and Sarah. They listened to all that we had to say, took notes and then asked us "What is most important to you?" We responded by telling them communication, first and foremost. We knew that when we opened up the walls to our 30+ year old home, we might discover some more work, we just wanted to know about it, all of it! We had a cabinet maker all lined up and they were willing to work with him because it was important to us. We felt extremely at ease with the meeting and quote we received from DiFabion. Initially, we decided to go with a friend of our cabinet maker to do the job and informed DiFabion that we would not be using them. As the start date of our project approached, we were growing very uneasy and realized that we had made a huge mistake not choosing DiFabion. We called Michael back and asked him to requote the job and he graciously agreed to (at this point, about 6 months had elapsed from our initial visit). We signed the contract and about 3 months later began the work. Every aspect of our experience with DiFabion far exceeded all of our expectations, from their communication with us, to their respect for our home, to our lead carpenter Doug, to Sarah helping us choose materials that kept us on budget not to mention the finished project! This was the first time we had ever dealt with a contractor at this level of involvement. All we had ever heard were horror stories. Nothing could be further from our experience. We won't be bothering with other quotes on our next project. DiFabion will be the only call we make. The only delays we encountered in this project were from the two contractors that WE brought to the table (cabinets and granite). DiFabion even helped get these issues resolved for us, when it wasn't there battle to fight. The only overages we experienced were from work that we asked them to do as "add ons" that weren't on the initial contract. They finished on time AND on budget! Amazing experience! Our new kitchen and laundry room are beautiful and are so much more user friendly! DiFabion was the perfect fit for us and our project!

I first contacted Michael DiFabion over 3 years ago when I was considering a master bathroom remodel. I did not end up doing that project at all but was VERY impressed with DiFabion Remodeling from our meeting, so I kept them in the file for ‘one day'. Well, that 'one day' arrived when we realized we needed alternative access to our home from the pool for our children and their friends. The kids were having to enter through the screened porch, and go across the kitchen, to get to the bathroom--all in their wet bathing suits. DiFabion was the only company I contacted about this project because I knew they were all we would need to get the job done. Michael DiFabion and Sara Almond worked for weeks coming up with design possibilities for our new space. They were always so helpful and worked with us at every turn to be sure that the design we came up with would satisfy all our needs as well as keep within a budget. Sara worked through many revisions with me to be sure we had just the right drawers, shelves and storage for our needs. She even measured my laundry detergent containers to be sure they'd fit on the shelves! She came with me to pick out tile and hardware. We exchanged many emails to be sure we got just the right sink and faucet for the new laundry room. Having Sara walk me through all of the decisions that had to be made was invaluable. The work was outlined in a detailed plan which provided a time line for each phase of the project. My biggest concern was keeping my washer and dryer functioning during the project since I have 3 young children. I am happy to report, that I did not lose even a single day without my machines! The crew, which included a project coordinator, a lead carpenter, and two other carpenters, were by far the most skilled and professional craftsman I have EVER had work in my home. In addition to the folks who work for DiFabion, the subcontractors they used for electrical and plumbing are also the best I have ever experienced. The entire crew went above and beyond our expectations in every aspect of their work. Before they left each day, the work area was cleaned and made usable so that I could continue to do laundry. They also kept the outside of my home clean by sweeping and straightening up daily before they left. I could go on and on about the quality of these men--their work and their work ethic was beyond reproach. It was also very nice to know that Michael DiFabion was never more than a phone call away and he was always on the job site inspecting a couple of times per week. The job was done on time, and we could not be more pleased with the results. During the design process, we also included a new design for our kitchen. When we are ready to do that project, there is no doubt in my mind that DiFabion Remodeling will be doing the job!

Mike Difabion Sr. was fantastic! We did a major remodel and actually moved out for 5 months. We gutted all the bathrooms, enlarged interior doorways, crown moulding installed all over the house, built a huge storage closet in bonus room, new hardwood floors almost everywhere. We took one of our downstairs bedrooms and built a beautiful office with custom cabinets ,new floor in laundry room and redid our screened porch. I have nothing but fabulous things to say about this experience. His entire crew could not have been more talented, professional and we all got along so well. At the beginning ,Mike gives you a complete timeline of what should happen each week. It was updated usually about every 2 weeks and he literally met the timeline and was finished at least 1 or 2 weeks early. We didn't move back in for a couple of weeks so our floors could cure. The only problem we ran into was a support beam was missing and we got an engineer to look at it and we put in the new beam and things moved along. My husband and I and Mike decided what needed to be done and we did it! I strongly recommend everyone talking to him if you are thinking of a remodel of any size. You absolutely cannot go wrong, Terrific people and we LOVE our house. Lynn

My apologies for being so late writing my review. My husband and I are very pleased with how our master bath turned out. Mr. Difabion meet with my husband and I to discuss our project. He gave us a written time line and also references we could call if we needed to. After our first meeting with Mr. Difabion, my husband and I knew right away that his company was the one we wanted. He may not be the cheapest company, but his company does not do cheap work! You do get what you pay for. I have never met a more professional person with such a very high work ethic than Mike Difabion. The people working for him are also great! Sarah, his designer is awesome! I encourage everyone reading my review to go to his site and look at his work. Beautiful! Sincerely, Deanna

My original plan was to remodel my kitchen using the same floor plan to save money. My kitchen was very closed in, but I was reluctant to make drastic changes due to the cost. DiFabion took the initiative to provide an additional estimate to remove a wall and completely change the floor plan. I was blown away by the design, so I decided to get outside my comfort zone and go with their recommendation. It was the best decision I ever made. Rather than spend a large amount of money on a kitchen remodel that would just give me an updated look but with the same closed in feeling, i now have an open kitchen that just blows me away every time I come into my house. The designer was perfect for me. I feel overwhelmed by too many choices,, so Sara netted things down for me and made it a much easier decision. She also pushed me o consider things outside my usual selections, which yielded some amazing combinations of colors and textures. The lead carpenter, Mike, was such a professional. He made sure that everything was done right, and on schedule. He clearly had pride in his work. And it shows. All of the contractors without exception were polite, on time, and conscientious in their work. It was a pleasure to work with such a talented and amazing group of people.

We are repeat customers of DiFabion Remodeling, having benefitted form their home remodeling services multiple times over the past 10 years. They have helped turn our house into a home. Our home was built in 1993 and the master bathroom is large and was in need of work. Mike and his team met with us to learn what we wanted out of the project and helped us by offering helpful ideas. They helped create a beautiful solution to our needs and delivered on the promise, much as they have through our other remodeling projects with them. The project was completed on time, for the the agreed upon price, and with our entire family being very happy with the results. We offer DiFabion Remodeling our highest recommendation.

Sometimes the best way to evaluate the reputation of a contractor is often how they perform after the work is done and they are gone. About nine months after the completion of our kitchen remodel by DiFabion Remodeling, we developed a problem with our backsplash. The sales person at the tile vendor allowed us to purchase a natural stone tile for our backsplash. Despite numerous coats of sealer, the natural stone began to show and hold grease splatters and water marks. When we spoke with Sara Almond, our advisor at DiFabion, she immediately asked what DiFabion needed to do to make us happy. We selected another, this time glazed, tile and DiFabion went about removing the old tile, replacing the damaged sheet rock and installing the new tile. All this was done at no cost to us. This speaks volumes about DiFabion Remodeling and how they back the work they do. We continue to be exceptionally pleased with DiFabion and will not hesitate to recommend them or use them again in the future.

DiFabion Remodeling did a great job constructing a new free-standing garage on our property. We had very specific ideas about what we wanted and how we wanted the new building to tie in with our existing house. DiFabion immediately understood what we were looking for and produced a design and estimate that we hardly had to alter. After that, DiFabion produced a detailed schedule on what work would occur when and what would result in delays (weather). A few details changed along the way, but DiFabion always kept to their overall plan and finished on time, on budget. DiFabion always was responsive when we had questions. The quality of the building is very good, and the design tie-in were exactly what we were looking for. Our experience with DiFabion was so much more positive than any other experience we've had with a contractor, and we plan on using them again on some future projects we have in mind.

Unfortunately we cannot be all things to all people. We have a preliminary telephone discussion to determine if the project is good fit for both the client and our Company. If it is, we schedule an appointment to review the proposed work. If it is not, we graciously explain it would be to the client's advantage to look elsewhere. Don't see why we would get an "F" for being honest? We sincerely hope this client finds the right fit. Sincerely, Michael T. DiFabion, President

Our project involved replacing our entire kitchen cabinets, countertops, tile backsplash and appliances. In addition we had gas installed for a Wolfe oven range and installed an external exhaust hood fan (and requisite duct work) to improve ventilation and exhausting of cooking fumes. DiFabion did a fabulous job. We selected them out of three highly rated contractors on Angie?s List after interviewing all three candidates. Our initial planning meetings were with Michael DiFabion and Sara Almond (their design consultant). We were impressed with their thoroughness and professional approach to our project. Sara was invaluable in helping us through the selection process and keeping us on track throughout the project. Sara did a great job at expediting when required. She is an absolute pleasure to work with and was one of the deciding factors we chose DiFabion. We also had a fantastic lead carpenter, Mike Cole, who was the consummate craftsman. Mike was professional, timely and very responsive. He and his son did all of the non-sub contracted work ? demo, cabinet installation, trim replacement/installation. He handled the subcontractors ensuring they completed their tasks timely. His handiwork on the project made all the difference in how the project flowed, progressed and ultimately turned out. DiFabion also has an outstanding stable of sub-contractors ? HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Tile Installation, Sheetrock, and Countertop Fabricator. Each did a great job and, where necessary, coordinated their work with other subs. Its no fun living through a kitchen remodel but DiFabion Remodeling made it as bearable as possible and surprised us by bringing the projection to completion at least a week ahead of time. it goes without saying that we are very pleased with how our kitchen turned out, will use them again and are already thinking about a master bath renovation in the spring. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND DiFabion Remodeling to anyone considering a home construction project.

Michael DiFabion came to my home and discussed their company, how he got into the business with his father, his schooling at UNC-Charlotte. Presented a brochure of actual jobs that were done for other customers. It seemed the company was very efficient & thorough. But never heard from him after that one meeting. I told him which specific tub I wanted" Kohler Elevance". I was so disappointed to never hear from him after that very professional presentation. I thought based on Angies list reviews and his presentation that I had found the company to remodel my master bath to make it accessible[tub]. It is something I really desire, and need but finding the contractor to install has been a struggle to say the least

Hi [Member Name Removed], I apologize for not getting back to you. About a week after we met, I actually composed an email estimate and thought I sent it over, along with several others that day. After looking back, I discovered the email was still in my "draft" folder, which was obviously an oversight on my end. There's no excuse for my carelessness, and I completely understand your frustration. I can still send it to you if you'd like, but I'm sure we're past the "too little, too late" point. Nonetheless, please feel free to contact me if you would in fact still wish to receive the estimate. Once again, my sincerest apologies, Michael DiFabion

I ended up not using this provider only because their price was so high. this was a quote for a 8'x6' master bath that did not include redoing the attached walk in closet or relocating major fixtures. Was way more than i was willing to spend on this update. On a positive note, they did appear to be very professional, the pictures of their work were lovely and I'm sure for someone with a huge budget, they would do great work - just not for me!

Response from DiFabion Remodeling Inc
We agree that we are not the Company for everyone. Our clients are looking for outstanding value. In reviewing this report, we pulled our paperwork and discovered that we were not given the opportunity to create a design and detailed proposal. This perspective client was given some ballpark figures on historical similar projects. The average master bathroom project has 52 decisions that need to be made. While it is a "small" space, it is by far the most "complicated" small space in the home! For this reason and others, it is very difficult to give a final price until a plan and specifications are created. While we are sorry the perspective client decided not to proceed with a formal design and proposal (possibly due to the cost), we appreciate the kind words regarding professionalism.

The process was as easy for me as it could be, given that my house was torn up for weeks with the bathrooms being redone one at a time. All workers showed up on time, were considerate and cordial. Each day, they cleaned up and left as little debris or disturbance as possible. All the workers did top notch work. They stand by their work. Several months after one bathroom was completed, I had a problem with the faucet, and they fixed it. Some grout needed to be touched up in another bathroom and they did that, too. This is by no means the cheapest outfit around, but you get what you pay for. You know the work will be done perfectly, with all details tended to, including permits. DiFabion uses true craftsmen who take pride in their work. You have peace of mind dealing with these people as you know the job will be done right and they will stand behind it.

I didn't use them. The quote was about half a million. They were very nice and personable. Their quote was just a little high. Their ideas were good. I liked everything about them except for the price. I would definitely give them a chance to quote again.

It went good. They were very prompt and professional. They were a bit pricey but for the work they did it was worth it.

My home was built in the 1960's and had a very boxed flow with small and dark defined rooms. I wanted to open it up and let in a lot more natural light with additional lighting. From the first visit with Michael I knew that I would be using DiFabion for the remodel. He was on time, very professional and understood what I was hoping to accomplish. I saw one of my friends on their reference list, called and got a glowing recommendation which absolutely sealed the deal. The next visit included Sarah their wonderful designer. We talked about what I wanted and they came back with 3 floor plans. After discussing the plans, I selected items from all three designs and Sarah came up with a final version that was perfect. Next, I met Mike C. (project lead), Ditto and Mike P (they were all awesome to work with) and the demolition began. They put up thick plastic walls with zippers (I loved the zippers) that really kept the dust to a minimum in the parts of the house that were not under construction. It was amazing to watch my tiny little kitchen/dining/den area take on this brand new look. After demolition came framing with the same team. In fact the same crew did most of the construction. DiFabion does sub out the electrical, plumbing, flooring and tile work but all of their subs were great - professional and easy to work with. My construction took place over Christmas and I had set up a small tree in the front room plus I had an electric heater to keep that room warm enough to watch TV. One evening (after working hours) when it was extremely cold outside I kept tripping the breaker and called Mike C. for help. He got in touch with Randy the electrician who called me back within 30 minutes. Randy came first thing the next day and fixed the issue - the electric heater was using all the amps so he wired a temporary fix to a different circuit which kept me warm and able to watch TV with the Christmas tree lights on! Sarah (the designer) went with me on all of the "shopping" trips and provided samples so I could look at them in the actual light of the kitchen. She was a joy to work with and helped me with a lot of my decisions - I could not have done it without her help. Having a professional designer on the team made a huge difference. Before long, it started to look like the designs. I absolutely love the changes and the craftsmanship is superb. The crews were professional, helpful (one example - they did their best to keep my washer and dryer available for as long as possible by moving them multiple times), and cleaned up everything before they left every day. The project completed on time and very close to on budget (budget differences were due to additions/changes I made to the original plan). I will definitely use DiFabion for my next remodeling project!
Description of Work: A complete remodel of the kitchen, dining room, den and mudroom. Including new patio door, new front door, and tankless hot water heater.
