The later part of last year Angie started a new website page and it caused many problems. We weren't getting our messages like we were supposed to. Steve was the first electrician to return my call. We discussed my needs and made an appointment for him come out on a Monday to look at the job and provide a quote. On Monday, he called to ask if he could reschedule for Tuesday. On Tuesday, he didn't show. When I texted him, he asked if we could reschedule for Wednesday. On Wednesday, he sent me a text an hour before our meeting to ask if we could reschedule again. I didn't feel he was reliable enough to consider for the job, even if his quote - if I ever got one - was acceptable so I told him I would not reschedule for a third time.
Description of Work: I am redoing a room in my house, turning it into a theater room. To do so, I needed a couple of outlets relocated, some sconces installed and a new outlet installed.

While investigating why half of my garage outlets and lights weren't working, Steve discovered that my main electrical panel needed to be replaced as part of it was burned out (non-technical term I'm using!) and potentially unsafe. The old panel also didn't have a main breaker to shut off all power if needed, nor was it properly grounded. Steve immediately fit me into his schedule to do the work. Since I work from home, Steve made sure that I had power for my laptop/phone/internet when he turned off all power to the house so that I would be able to work while power was out. Great work overall, very professional and courteous. I'll definitely call Amped the next time I need electrical work done in my home.

I would just like to thank this member for the wondering report he took the time to do on our services. We wired a new porch for this member and while on site I discovered the faulty panel. There were no ground rods, main breaker and the bus bar had over heating damage on it from a faulty breaker...very dangerous! I made a few changes on my schedule so we could return the following day and we got started replacing the service. We installed a new 200 amp panel, breakers, meter can and ground rods. Stephen arrived on Thursday and removed the panel cover and inspected the work on the previous electrician. Based on the work that needed to be done as outlined in the home inspector's report, ALL repairs had been completed correctly and in accordance with code. To ensure that he had covered all of his bases, Stephen turned on ALL of the lights, appliances, etc. to see if there were any "hot" wires from something that was on when the home inspector was here that was not on now. NO HOT WIRES. Stephen contacted the home inspector and asked him if he was missing something and questioned the home inspector intensely. After Stephen interrogated this home inspector about how he came to the conclusions that he did, it came out that he was drawing major, dangerous conclusions about my electrical panel by using a "hotstick", and was picking up electrical impedance and NOT live wires. Stephen told the inspector that he was extremely uncomfortable having to charge me $125.00 for doing nothing and that the first electrician had done a good job. The home inspector stated "I guess I was wrong". Stephen asked the home inspector if he was going to reimburse me the $125.00 that he had to charge me and that if HE was wrong about something like this, the first thing that he (Stephen Neal) would do would be to step up, admit he was wrong and reimburse me immediately. In summary, Stephen Neal not only performed a critical service for me which I gladly paid him for, but he made my being victimized by this incompetent (and arrogant) home inspector his PERSONAL cause. I can readily recommend Stephen Neal of Amped Electrical as a skilled professional, a good man and one of the most ethical service providers that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Thanks again Stephen!!!
Description of Work: I hired an electrician to make repairs based on an assessment made by a home inspector in conjunction with the sale of my home. The electrician came to my home, worked in my electrical panel for an hour or so and stated that the repairs were complete. When the home inspector came for the re-inspection, he stated that the repairs had NOT been made and there were wires that had not been properly capped off and "hot" wires in my panel that could cause a fire. This inspection was on Wednesday and we were supposed to close on Friday. I called Stephen Neal on Wednesday night after the inspector left and asked if he could come out and check the work of the previous electrician and make any repairs. Stephen was incredibly responsive and said that he would make a point to come out the next day.

As always I would like to thank this member for the wonderful report on our services. When I arrived on site this member told me there were some hot wire inside his panel that were not on a breaker. I removed the panel cover, tested said wires and found none of them had voltage on them. This member paid one electrician $125 to correct the problem. In my opinion the first electrician found no hot wires but claimed he fixed them in order to get paid. Then this member also had to pay this home inspector another $125 because the inspector told him the wires in the panel were still hot and he would have to return once the problem had been fixed. The inspector was using what is commonly known as a "hot stick". This device can pick up what is called imedance (small amount of voltage feed back on a wire). This inspector cost this member $375 for no reason, so yes I called the inspector to let him know just that but the guy didn't care and said I was being rude. This shows that you really have to be careful who you hire. Always hire top rated Angie's list and this won't be your experience. Regards, Steve Neal-Owner

Seeing all their positive ratings and even awards from Angie's list led me to select them. I contacted them at 1:23 pm on 4-15-16. I was assured by the recording the call would be returned in 24 hours. Since i called on Friday, I assumed that meant Monday the 18th. No such luck. Tuesday the 19th still nothing. It is now 1:35 on Wednesday the 20th...you guessed it nothing. I don't how good someone is at their job, or how reasonable the price is, if they are inaccessible they are of no value whatsoever. If they are swamped with work, fine just call and tell me it will be a couple of weeks. To not call at all is very unprofessional and frankly downright rude.

Everything went extremely well. On any construction project there are always some small hiccups and this project was no exception. However, with this team these were barely noticeable and were fixed quickly and explained very well. The team was flexible and always willing to work with my schedule to make sure everything perfect. Electrical is one of those things that's tough to rate because you don't really see it the same way you do structure but this team is top notch.

Steve was very professional, he called when he said he would and let me know he was running a few minutes behind. Called company to get an estimate on an electrical project. I need the pole attached to my electrical meter moved since it currently goes up through my gutter. The person I was speaking to said that he could do it for $600. His explanation on what he was going to do made it clear that he did not understand my problem, (said that he would add to the height of the pole) I suggested that it would be easier to give me an estimate if he actually came to the house and looked at the situation. He said that he would have to charge me $75 for the visit even though his website said free quotes. I asked him about the free quote and he said that everybody says that but they add it to the price. I've had enough work done that I know that this is not true. I was uncomfortable agreeing to a fixed price knowing that his proposed solution would not work. Bottom line: He gave me a price not understanding the scope of the work and wanted to charge me for coming out. Meaning he would not see what needed to be done until he sent his crew out, which he would then probably change the price or not do what needed to be done. Thanks but no thanks!!

As usual I would like to thank this member for the feed back. I am sorry to say this but the method that was was given to this member was the correct fix. He just wanted it done his way but as he is not a licensed electrician, I have to do the repair up to NC code. I told the member I was sorry if he didn't agree with my opinion but coming on site would not change a thing. He wanted us to run unfused wire through his attic so he wouldn't have to have a pole coming through his roof but there is no way to make that safe nor pass inspection. When asked to come on site, I knew it would be a waste of time, so yes I told him it would be $75 to do so. I had already sent 20 minutes tn the phone trying to explain how the repair should be done and this member wasn't hearing it. I knew if I went out to this members home, he was just going to disagree and call someone that will do it his way. After telling this member it would be $75 to come out on site, he insisted I had to come out for free because my site advertises free quotes. I reminded the member that I already told him he was looking at $675 for the repair and I would put in writing....that is his free quote. I tried my best to help this member but if he can't trust me when I tell him I am positive how it has to be done and I offered him a quoted price in writing...I'm not sure what else I can do. I am sorry this member felt the need to leave this report but I assure any member reading this that I 100% guarantee my quoted price. I was trying to get another plumber I have used before but not on Angies List and due to the emergency nature I called Amped and within 2 hours he was here and fixed it and saved me from buying a new water heater. We both learned how to drain a water heater and determining how much was drained in order to remove element.

We have used Steve and his team for several projects on new home we are remodeling. He gave us a fair price for all services, and they always showed up on time and did the work as promised. He was also very responsive when we had to change appointment dates due to other contractor scheduling issues. Any time we call him, he is quick to respond. As always I would like to say thank you for the wonderful report. These members were some of the best home owners I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They had quite a long list of work they wanted to get done but in a few trips out we managed to get them squared away. We ran a 100 amp sub panel out to their detached 3 bay garage. We installed 6 lights, 10 outlets, 2 coach lights and 2 flood fixtures. We also ran new circuits to their pool pump and storage shed.. The previous owner had the power for both ran like drop cords on top of the ground, never a smart idea! We also updated a lot of their lighting inside the home. They bought some of the nicest chandlers I have ever installed. They were some of the heaviest too LOL but we got them in place with out issue. Last but not least we did a full rewire of their kitchen. We added 5 under counter lights, 30 amp circuit for a new wall oven, 15 amp circuit for a garbage disposal, 20 amp circuit for an exhaust hood, 20 amp circuit for cook top and additional counter top outlets. The recess can lighting in the kitchen was installed in a not so attractive way, so we tore all but one out, added a few and reinstalled the old ones in a more symmetrical pattern. When everything was done, it was amazing! These members knew exactly what they wanted, which made my job much easier and their projects got knocked out fast. I am very dissatisfied with them. I did not know he was a member of Angie’s List until I used him. He is an excellent electrician but his follow up service is lousy. Once you get him here he is good but his scheduling is terrible. When I called him to back to check something he said that he was going to do it but he kept putting me off. He goes wherever he is going to make the most money and just when he doesn’t have any work he will call you. I will never use him again and he doesn’t value his customers. If he is not going to make much money he doesn’t bother with you. I told him that eventually his bad behaviors will catch up to him and he won’t have any customers and he told me in nice way to let him worry about that, he will do what he does and I should do what I do. He redid the electrical in the master bathroom that we had done because it had to be inspected. When we needed he to come back and he said he got better jobs to do. Every time he had to come here he was late.

As always I would like to thank this member for the feed back. I do hate that this member felt the need to leave this report but I have to say there were a few details felt out. The day we scheduled the initial install of the upgrades for her bathroom, we were 10 minutes late due to traffic. I did call this member to tell her know while we were in route to her house. Once on site we completed the scope of work and had it inspected the following day. Everything passed without issue. A few weeks later this member called me claiming the LED indicator light on her bath fan stopped working but the fan itself was still operational. She me to come back out to check it and I agreed. This was at the peak of the summer and I was booked up for two weeks. I told her this but sense the bath fan was working we agreed there was no hurry. So in two weeks I returned. I checked everything and it looked ok. The problem was the bath fan and not the wiring. I advised this member to contact the store she purchased the fans and get a replacement. She asked if I would return to install the replacement and I told her I would but I would have to charge and labor for the time it took to complete swapping it out. Her view was I should do it for free. My view was and still is that I already came back once for free and I don't think I should have to do that twice to fix something that franky was not our fault. I did not return to do the repair and this member felt she needed to write this report. Again I am sorry this member feels she did not get the service she felt she deserved but I do feel I went over and beyond the call of duty to complete my end of our agreement. I invite any Angie's member reading this to continue to our over 150 A ratings. I would recommend this company but the estimate was very high for the correction of the suspected problem. It was going to have to be a two man job.
Description of Work: I was happy with same day service but stovetop reconnection could not occur as an additional greater problem was identified. So the repair turned out to be a diagnostic service.

As always I would like to thank this member for the great feed back. I would like to mention that when this member called, I was asked how much it would cost to reinstall an electric cooktop. They had a recent kitchen remodel and the contractor told this member to hire a electricIan. I quoted $75 trip charge and $125 to rewire and install the cooktop. This member agreed but once on site after installing the cooktop, I discovered that one of the hot wires some how was dead. I spent and extra 30 mins. trouble shooting the problem and only charged an extra $20 for my time. I told the member I felt pretty sure that when the new countertop were installed, they must have drove a screw through the wire. The cooktop was on the same circuit as a separate wall oven. The oven would have to be removed and that is a two person job. I told the member if she liked, I could return the next day with help to take care of the repair but she declined. I am very sorry that this member felt it necessary to give us a C for price but as I stated above, I only charged $20 extra for the time I spent finding the problem. The cooktop got installed and wired so, I did not feel that I needed to reduce my rate because her contractor damaged the wire. Regards, Stephen Neal-Owner.
