I called this company because the reference stated he provided emergency or same day service which he did. He called to let me know when he was in route to my house and gave me his estimated time of arrival. He arrived in a timely manner, politely introduced himself and promptly started work. He needed to find the source of the problem (e.g.There was electricity to the front half of my house, but no electricity to the back half of the house.) He located the problem and began working on correcting it. He had to move a lot of heavy furniture in order to get to some of the wall sockets and upon completion of what he needed to do he put all the furniture back in place and thoroughly cleaned up any debris that was present. At all times he was very cordial & professional in all he did. He needed to return the second day because of the size of the job. I was just so grateful that he was able to immediately respond to my need and able to fully restore electricity to my entire house. Without reservation I definitely would hire him again. In my book he gets all As.
Description of Work: He had to re-wire my electrical box in the garage which carries all the electricity into the house.

Amped Electrical was punctual, worked quickly and with high quality. He communicated very well and in advance so that you knew what to expect. He stayed very late to finish his part of the overall project and made a special trip with something shorted and worked until it was resolved which turned out to be a fan malfunction and thus not his fault. However, he advised us on what to do and how to do it to exchange the fan and he offered to come and install it when the new fan arrived. We're very happy with his work.

As always I want to thank this member for the excellent report. The fan issue was a unfortunate one but other than that , the project came out perfect as usual. These were also some of the nicest home owners I've had the pleasure to work for and I hope they enjoy the porch for years to come. I have a lot of reviews concerning beautifully constructed sunrooms and porches. My product can only look as good as the structure they are installed in. I have to give recognition to Exterior Additions for allowing Amped to be a part of their A team. If you are reading this report and in the market for any addition, porch, sunroom, kitchen remodel, bath room remodel etc....You need to look no further than Exterior Additions on Angie's List.

We were very pleased with Steve's work and will use him again when we redo our kitchen. All was installed and cleaned up without any problems.
Description of Work: Steve did a wonderful job install new circuits, bathroom ceiling fans, TV cables, stero speaker wires. He worked with another contractor to install the electrical while the other contractor was installing walls. Steve then returned to install lights, plugs, breakers and did a very professional job.

Steve was prompt and on time for the estimate. I described the work and Steve quoted his rate, which I thought reasonable since it included a new box, breakers, and a 1" feed cable from the old panel across a 20' span and included work on two additional circuits. The work was scheduled and Steve and his team actually showed up a bit early for the work. He communicated his planned downtime and managed to live within his downtime estimate. While Steve had the main panel open, he started to hear buzzing and crackling from the main 200 amp breaker. Steve immediately notified my wife and showed her the problem, when you touched the main breaker, you could hear the buzzing and crackling. Only problem was, our home and electrical panel are 25+ years old and main breakers for the panel are no longer available. After discussing this with Steve, his assessment was that while not required for him to complete the job he was working, it was unsafe. He was comfortable with a second opinion on the problem, but ultimately Steve and I worked out a price to replace our existing panel to eliminate a potential risk for what I thought a reasonable rate. Steve scheduled the work very quickly given the circumstances and showed up on time again and let my wife know how long the expected outage would be. His communication was great. The quoted rate included new panel, main breaker and all new breakers. About half way through the work, Steve again called my wife and showed her yet another problem, our AC installer, a big name in town, had installed wiring for a new compressor several years ago and rather than running a new 4 foot cable, had spliced a three foot piece to a 1 foot piece and taped the ends between the main panel and an outside box, which were apparently working themselves loose and were buried in the wall invisible to both us and the electrical inspector who reviewed their work. One slight pull and the splice separated. Steve pointed it out and quickly fixed the problem correctly, with no fuss or additional cost. This eliminated what I consider another electrical problem waiting to happen - at a minimum an inconvenience and an electrical fire in the worst case. Scary stuff. Steve's work product is excellent, he works hard, on time, hits his time estimates! The amount I ultimately spent with Steve included replacing the main panel with all the breakers which required a lot of work to enlarge the panel space and recable every breaker, add new cabling to the expansion panel and its associated work. All work was fully inspected on completion. A good guy that can be relied on to get a quality job done on time and will provide an honest assessment of other problems.
Description of Work: Added expansion breaker box, which required a fair amount of work to pull a sizeable cable and the relocation of 4 circuits to this new box, through a small gap above a sheet rock ceiling to the location for an expansion box. Not an easy piece of work and about 25 linear feet of cabling. Steve also rewired two circuits for us to the new expansion panel. This work ultimately represented only a small piece of what Amped did for us and shown for the cost I showed above. See below for full story.

Steve was the subcontractor who handled the electrical portion of project to build a roof over our back porch (this is the reason I'm not sure of the exact portion of his part of the work). We had 4 recessed lights, a ceiling fan, and an exterior floodlight installed in a new shed roof. Because of our brick exterior, there was a challenge around placement of the switches for the lights and fan, which Steve talked us through in detail, laying out the options and what he recommended. The only very small thing I might have done differently in hindsight would've been to have the floodlight wired to the same inside switch as the other rear flood and also to replace both floods (one of which was reinstalled on the new roof) with sensor lights; I simply didn't think of these things at the time, and Steve probably didn't think to raise it since it would've involved additional cost. However the work we had arranged to do was done correctly, expertly, and in a timely and professional manner. We would use Amped again for any electrical work we needed.

Amped Electrical was very good to work with. They showed up on time on the day that work was to be completed. The work was completed on time and is of excellent quality. This was originally to be a one day job. However, while installing our ceiling fan (Hunter, Concert Breeze with wireless audio technology) an issue was found and the ceiling fan had to be returned and replaced. Normally, the electrician would need to charge in order to come back out to complete the work. However, Stephen simply asked us to notify him when we received the new ceiling fan and he would come back out, free of charge, and finish the installation. Sure enough, when the new fan was received we called Stephen and, as promised, he returned to finish the installation; free of charge. Would highly recommend and will use again if we need future electrical work.
Description of Work: Amped Electrical performed all of the electrical work as part of a recent screened-in-porch / patio build. Work completed included new ceiling fan, 4 recessed lights, 2 GFCI outlets, exterior spot lights and ceiling fan.light switches.

It didn't go that well. Initially, it all sounded great--competitive pricing and great response time, and they took credit cards (as noted on Angie's List). But once the electrician showed up I encountered a big problem--they only took cash or check. I was in the middle of a home renovation and never carry cash on me--which is why I chose a contractor from Angie's List that took credit cards. But, apparently, (according to the electrician) their page on Angie's List wasn't updated to reflect that they no longer take cards. When the electrician noted that he wouldn't take cards, I replied that it was listed on Angie's List that he did. He replied (not very nicely), "why didn't you ask me?". I didn't ask--because I didn't think I had to, since the information was listed on their page on Angie's List. All the other information was correct on their page--phone number, name, so why wouldn't payment information be correct as well? So, I had to leave the house and drive to an ATM, with the electrician following me, and withdraw the cash. All in all--about 2 hours of lost renovation time. And a heap of inconvenience. A few days later I was farther along in the project and I needed an electrician again--so instead of calling Amped, I called other Angie's List contractors. After receiving 3 separate estimates from 3 different contractors, they all said the same thing--the wiring that was installed by Amped wouldn't allow the correct voltage for the Hot Water Heater. So, I wasted over 2 hours of my time, and $250 of my money. And I have to have the wires re-done so that the hot water heater can run properly. Thanks Amped, you've officially created a really unhappy customer. Oh, and one more thing. The electrician's famous last words that still ring in my ears, "You aren't going to give me a bad Angie's List review and ruin my ratings are you?".
Description of Work: The electrician supposedly put in new wires for a new hot water heater.

Response from Amped Electrical Inc
First and foremost, I would like to thank this Angie’s member for their input. At Amped Electrical we pride ourselves in continuing to improve and refine our client’s experience with our company. As well defined in our three dozen plus reports below, client satisfaction is our utmost priority and as mentioned in this client’s statements above I do not want anyone “ruining” that. Regrettably, with the exception of their final statement the balance of this report has it’s fair share of inaccuracies. This member contact me via phone and inquired about a price to have a water heater connected, he elaborated on what sounded to be a straightforward project. I did quote him $250 to perform the work. Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent this member was a house-flipper (regrettably notorious for sourcing the quickest and the cheapest). The home was in a state of disrepair, the existing panel was in poor condition and there was a multitude of corrections needed in order to insure a positive outcome to his water heater install. I brought ALL of these items to his attention and felt I made it very clear that problems could arise should he choose to install the heater without the noted repairs. He chose not to perform the repairs and insisted I continue with the install. In retrospect, this is where I made my critical mistake in that I should have left the site and not performed any work, lesson learned. As the project was pre-agreed upon, I felt backed into a corner and just tried to help this member out, which in retrospect was a bad idea. I would like to also add, this member NEVER contacted me post completion to tell me the water heater was not working. I also find it interesting that he has had three different electricians make service calls to his home to “look” at the work. One would assume that if you are in home renovation business you would have vendors you have worked with in the past and have a good relationship with, unless of course you are unreasonable. In regards to the credit card issue, this member is correct. Due to the logistics of on site credit card processing and the associated fees, we had suspended accepting credit cards. I neglected to reflect this change on Angie’s in a timely fashion. I apologized to this member multiple times as well as offered to bill him for my services. As he was an out of state (living in a motel) “contractor”, I did mention we had a $300 minimum if I had to send him a bill, which he opted against, which is our company policy. I would like to add that his trip to the ATM took about 15 minutes, of which I gave him a $10 discount to cover his ATM fees. What he did for the other time I have no idea. In the end, much like having a nice shiny new car, the first ding always hurts the worst and I regret this member felt the need to leave this report. Had this been brought to our attention we would have sourced a quality resolve for all parties. We will certainly learn from this experience and continue to strive to provide the best client experience possible. I welcome any perspective Angie’s clients to call me and I would be happy to further elaborate on this issue. Steve Neal-Owner

Stephen worked closely with our building contractor so that his rough wiring, finish wiring, and followup all occured in a timely and efficient manner. I really appreciated his timeliness as we had to be ready for the Mecklenberg County Inspector twice and were hoping to complete the overall project just in time for my mother's 94th birthday, all of which we did exactly on schedule and everyone loved that finished outdoor room at the party. We use this room nearly every day and enjoy it tremendously. I would gladly use Stephen (Amped Electrical Inc) again and recommend them to anyone else needing electrical services or repairs.
Description of Work: Stephen Neal and his crew performed all the electrical work for our outdoor room addition which included: 2 tv cables, tv wall mount, 2 ceiling fans with slope kits, 5 GFCI protected outlets, 4 recessed lights on dimmer switch, new outside floodlight and remount existing 2nd floodlight to new location. Stephen also noted that the home's ground connection had been damaged and he fixed that as well.

After arranging a time to do the work he was prompt, courteous, and completed the work quickly and professionally. He even had to work in the rain for the outdoor portion of the job with no complaints and suggested a recommendation for the speaker wiring to improve the sound. I am really happy with the work Stephen and his team performed for us. Stephen's company were the electricians assigned to the sunroom/porch that we had built via a different company. From the beginning, Stephen and his team were courteous, clean and really cared about making us happy. As part of our contract with the other company, Stephen installed 6 recessed lights, 4 premium in wall speakers, 2 outdoor rated fans, wiring/connectivity from our outdoor plasma TV to our components in our living room (HDMI, optical, coax for satellite), and 2 outdoor floodlights. I was really impressed with their focus to ensure everything would exceed code - they installed GFCI outlets with outdoor covers and the light switches are covered as well. I did not expect that level of quality and it feels very safe. Outside of our contract with the other company (which reflects the price I noted above), I had Stephen replace our outdoor electrical/circuit box to ensure I had dedicated circuits for our sunroom and future landscape lighting, etc. We also had him to relocate ugly coax runs on the exterior of the house and have them properly run in the interior walls and/or crawl space. Lastly, we had him add an interior outlet in our laundry room (which required significant effort under an unforgiving crawlspace). Stephen and team were extremely patient with us as we added/deleted items from the job and took time to advise us on the pros/cons. After all this work, we finally have an electrician we can call "our electrician." It is nice to say that as you would with a doctor, dentist, auto mechanic, etc.
Description of Work: Replaced our circuit/electrical panel; added multiple interior and exterior electrical outlets; ran cable (HDMI, optical, antenna, coax) from outdoor room (and attic) through interior walls. Installed flood lights and (3) sconces.

Stephen was subcontracted by the builder of our sunroom, Exterior Additions. This builder only uses the very best and all of his workers were remarkable. It was no surprise when we saw how professional and experienced Stephen was. When he arrived he worked fast and well, rechecking with us to be sure we were aware of what would be done and helping us select the proper places to install the fans and lights. Then, when last minute, I wanted to make some changes and additions to what was contracted for, he had no problem doing exactly what we wanted. His prices were very fair and his work was excellent. He was very helpful and has a great personality. We will definitely use him again and would recommend him to friends.

Overall, it went well. When I described the situation over the phone, he told me what I would need to get ahead of his visit in order to minimize his billable time. He replaced two light fixtures, and some bad switches in the home, and then based on his recommendation, did a full house sweep of our outlets (there were enough signs of sloppy work by the original contractors that he thought it would be wise, and we agreed).

The electrical work on the project went really well. Stephen Neal kept me informed about all of the steps involved, was punctual, and very professional. I'd eagerly contact Amped Electrical in the future for any of my electrical needs.
Description of Work: I had a patio cover installed and Amped Electrical did the wiring for it. They ran power, installed recessed lights, ceiling fans, and electrical outlets. I didn't enter an amount spent because Amped Electrical was a sub-contractor on the project and I don't know how much of the total cost went to him.
