Charles Woods Builder

ALL sub-contractors (Raleigh Waterproofing, Hays HVAC and Pickard Roofing) selected and supervised by Charles Woods thus far have done EXCELLENT work. And Charles has been incredibly responsive; replied to my e-mails ... while he was on vacation; after his return, had a small problem fixed within 2 hours of my call .... I've also found his "opinions" re my selections in terms of materials and MANY other matters EXTREMELY valuable. Plus he's "GREAT" guy! While he may be more expensive than other General Contractors, I believe "you get what you pay for", and so far Charles has proved that belief to be true.

As stated in the "what did the provider do" section of this document, I only got an estimate from Charles Woods. Let me say that he appeared very competent when I spoke with him about my house projects. However, it never hurts to get more than one estimate, and last October I got two general contractors to provide estimates for the same project (three, actually, but after claiming he'd respond just after Halloween I never again heard from Red Dot Construction). Charles Woods' estimate was above the 120k mark for a scope of work that the other guy quoted as 67k. I've no idea what caused that drastic a difference between the two estimates--maybe the other guy gets all his materials off the backs of garbage trucks, or Charles Woods has a comprehensive health insurance program for all his subcontractors. Dunno. The point is just that if you're considering using CW as a contractor, get multiple estimates for the same job and make sure you're not over-paying.

Everything went fine. All work was reviewed by him and his crew were great. Job time estimates and cost were spot-on.

We had an excellent experience with Charles Woods Builder. Mr. Woods is very friendly and helpful. The subcontractors hired by Mr. Woods were all very nice and very responsive to our needs. I believe he had subcontractors for the floors, electrical, painting, cabinet making and plumbing. The reason I did not rank the price is that this is the first time we have made significant repairs/changes to our home (other than the roof) in the 20 years we have lived here, so we don't really know how the prices compare with other builders. We kept adding things for them to do, so the original estimates were not particularly useful. Mr. Woods told us he did not want to work with a contract. We agreed to this system, so he submitted a bill at the end of each week describing the work that had been done. We paid on a weekly basis throughout the job. Communication was very good during the process. Mostly we communicated by email and then either Mr. Woods himself or his foreman would get in touch with me if there was a problem. We would either meet or talk on the phone if necessary. The job did take much longer than I expected, but perhaps this was partly due to naivetand eacute; on my part. We expected about a 6-week job (not including the crawlspace work), but it took almost 4 months. I think part of the reason for this was that we ended up with custom cabinets, which we hadn't anticipated at the beginning of the job. They are beautiful and very functional, but I assume the process of making them, installation, fixing small problems, then getting the correct stain took longer than getting pre-made. Nevertheless, the final result is excellent and having them custom-built gave us some options we otherwise would not have had. The floors also came out looking beautiful, although we had to insist on another coat of polyurethane and you can still see a few sanding marks etc. I don't know how that compares with the results using other flooring companies. Mr. Woods and his subcontractors were also very conscientious about trying to keep dust to a minimum and about cleaning up after each part of the job. We are planning to hire Mr. Woods again to redo the upstairs.

Charles is an absolutely top notch individual. He is extremely good at what he does. He does a lot of work on older homes in the area. He does a phenomenal job. The craftsmanship is great and his communication is very good. The crew that worked on our house was also extremely nice and courteous. They were also good at communication. They are the best crew you can ask for which living through innovation. I have used him several times and I have referred him numerous times to other people.
