Description of Work: They installed a new Trane heat pump. They were knowledgeable on local requirements and stocked the unit I desired. When the city inspected the installation his comment was that he wished all the installers hand the knowledge and skills of A&E. He said the installation was very professional. |The old unit was removed and the new unit installed in 6 hours.

I was quoted $1450 for the labor & refrigerant; no parts charge as the coils are under warranty from the manufacturer. They were willing to accept the problem diagnosis from another company and didn't try to gouge their own problem determination fee out of me, which was nice. They were also very responsive to my emails. In the end though the cost was significantly higher than another highly-rated company so I decided to take my business elsewhere.

They came out quicker than their competition. It was when it was really hot, and the other companies were too busy to come out quickly. Everything went well. They cleaned up after themselves, but they left a few minor things laying around, which wasn't a big deal. Also they were polite. They came out later on to install an extra blower because it was needed. They didn't have a problem coming back. They have good people and excellent service quality. Their prices are standard. They were very helpful with the paperwork for the energy efficiency rebates. They do my system yearly inspections.

I had the most pleasant experience with them than I ever had with a contractor in my life. I got them from Angie's List. They came out right away when I was having a problem and did the diagnostics. Tim said that I had a cracked heat exchanger and that I was having an enormous amount of carbon monoxide in the exhaust outside. He cautioned me about using my furnace. Tim called Chris and Chris came out while Tim was still working on it. He did all the measurements in the house to see the kind of unit that I needed and gave me a quote. I spoke to a number of people but I did not get a quote from the other companies because it cost the same for the heating unit. I tried my heating again during the day time as I was not using it during the night time. It seemed to be working okay if that really was the problem. I called the office and they sent Tim back again on Monday. Tim took an hour to open up the top of the heater and he actually found the perforations in the heat exchanger. Chris came out again and turned the gas off. He wrote on the receipt that they had turned the gas off and that they would not be responsible if anything had to happen. He said that it would be at my risk if I turned it on. Their crew came out and installed the furnace. Chris came out with them to get them started and David was the head of that crew. Tim came out shortly after that to help him. The thermostats were so complicated sometimes. Tim installed the thermostat while I was reading the instructions. He said that he would stand by me and that I could program it the way I wanted. He helped me understand completely and it was a wonderful thermostat. I could take that off the wall and program it while sitting on the couch. It was great. They did a wonderful job. They had to drill as they ran into a gauge with some wires in it. They had to drill a hole in my garage wall to take some of the board off to install a new unit in my fuse box. But, they would be sending a plumber and a painter out to re-paint it. It did not look that bad but they would be sending someone out. I wrote them a check for approximately $6400 but I would be getting $550 back. I could not have got it for any cheaper. I would recommend them to the other members. I have had a lot of work done here since July 2010 and I have had three different crews of workmen here. They were the first one and it has been by far the easiest situation.

The experience was great. A heating system is a HUGE investment. I felt the advise A&E provided was more than enough to feel confident in my purchase. They discussed every detail of the system including accessories I may need and those they felt were a waste of time/money. Absolutely, no pressure on the sales end of the transaction. It is nice to find a locally owned/operated company that still puts the customer first and believes in their products and people.
Description of Work: I was able to get a quote on a new heat pump after hours (6pm). This allowed me to have the install scheduled within 48 hours. A&E removed my old heat pump and duct work. They replaced it with new duct work and a new heat pump including the air handler. The also took the time to reseal all air returns. The crew was VERY thorough, and professional at all times. My house and lawn were near spotless after the job was complete. A&E helped me with financing by allowing me to utilize a loan program through Piedmont Electric Coop. The provided me all needed documents and made the application painless.

After a string of bad hvac contractors (all of which I found on here) I think I have finally found a good one! I wish I could remember the guys name I was speaking to. On Friday December 31, 2010, I got up to a now working furnace. When increasing the temperature at the thermostat nothing happpened. My husband said that he felt that it could be the fuses. So he sent me under the house to pull the fuse box to check it out and relay to him what I found. (He just had knee surgery and could not go himself due to the height of the crawl space). I pulled the fuse holder out and as I did one of the 60 amp fuses fell out and basically turned to sand. He tells me to insert the two new fuses in and replace the fuse holder back into the fuse box, which I did at least I thought that I did. We then go back into the house and turn the thermostat up and nothing still happens. Since it was a holiday and my both my regular HVAC people were closed we decided to call someone else that was open and close to our residence. A&E fit the criteria. I was told by Mr. Ron Walters that someone would be there by midmorning. Midmorning came and went so I called to find out when the technician was coming for sure. He was already close to 2 hours late and we had not gotten any updated ETA call. So I called and the technician said he would be there in about 30 minutes. After 45-50 minutes the technician shows up. No apology for being late or explanation. Anyway I show him the thermostat and tell him what my husband had me do. He goes under the house and comes back out and tells me that the disconnect for the air handler was bad and would need to be replaced. I assumed it was another part, not the one that I had replaced the fuses in and described to him. He called it something different and did not mention anything "fuse nothing". I ask how much would it cost to replace and he says $300. I asked could I use the internet coupon for $35 that I read on their website and he said I could. Here I go again assuming that it would cost $300 that he said - 35, which would be $265. He asked what I wanted to do, so I told him that it had to be fixed. My husband could not do anything to help and my 6 year old grandson was there and we needed to keep him warm. So I tell him to go ahead and fix it. Then he tells me that he don't have the part and that he would have to go to Home Depot to get it since the supply house was closed. After he left and I told my husband what had to be done I remembered that we get a 10% discount there because of him being a veteran. So when the technician returns I tell him to give me the receipt so I can get the discount. There again I am assuming that the part costs 75-100$ based on the total quote. The technican returns about 1 hour later and goes under to replace the part. He then comes in and I ask for the receipt of the part and he tells me he will get it. He gives me the bill which is $300 after he deducts the $35 internet coupon. I ask him for the part that he took off and he goes out to get it and shows me what he replaced. I am so surprised that I say hey that is the fuse thing that I replaced the fuses in. He tells me that it had to be replaced because it was burnt and shows me dark place on the metal. While showing me he tells me that the fuse holder was not set in good and could have caused it. I did not exactly understand what he meant so I assumed he meant that is why it burned. I did not ask anymore questions but did tell him that I appreciated him fixing it and I felt that he was being honest and I would like to get a replacement quote for new units. He then leaves and I remember that he did not leave the receipt for the part. I call and leave a message that he did not leave it and I would like for him to return with it or mail it/fax it to me. I decide that I would look up the price on the Home Depot site. Boy was I shocked when I pull it up and it costs $9.95. For just a little bit more it could have been replaced with a breaker style which my husband had said that when we have the whole house electrical redone he was going to have that replaced as well and have no fuses. I called and left a message on the answering machine at A&E and ask Mr. Walters to give me a call to discuss the charges. He does call me back and I tell him my concerns for the charges and that the part was only $9.95 and I could not see where he could justify charging that much. He said that he had to charge and cover for the warranty of the replacement and did I expect him to warranty it for nothing. Which I did not expect him to do it for nothing, just a fair price which he adverstises in his ad. He was very argumentative and he even did not know what his technician charged me. I asked what his trip charge was and asked for an itemized statement and he would not to commit to how much a trip charge was or that he would send me an itemized list. During the rest of the weekend I kept thinking about it and talking with family about it and the charges and the cost of the part and how I felt that I had been taken advantage of and no cooperation from Mr. Walters about it...satisfaction guaranteed and this was definitely not the case. I was not satisfied on many ways from this transaction. Later during the weeked I was asked if showing the part to a NC State Electrical Inspector with the DOI and a county electrical inspector would make me feel better about the charges if they felt that it was burned etc. I agreed to let them show it. I did not like what I found out. Both said it did not appear to be burned just discolored and that more than likely I had not pused the fuse holder into the socket. I called Mr. Walters on Tuesday and had to leave a message that I wanted to discuss the charges again because I just did not feel that I had been treated fairly. In addition, I called my normal two HVAC companies and told them what I wanted done and ask what would be the total charge. I them called another just off the internet. I then had someone call him to ask his charges for coming out initially and he had to be asked 3 different ways before he would finally say he charged $96 very put out that someone would ask him his charges. One was $145 and the other was $152 and that would be to even install the breaker kind of disconnect and not the fuse kind. Mr. Walters has not called me back. I left work and home numbers. After his not willing to talk with me I felt it necessary to alert others what had happened to me. No I will not recommend him and I will and have told 18 people here at work that live in his service area. So he may have kept my money and raped my wallet, I have been telling folks about how he did me. In the long run word of mouth is better than his ad.

I woke up in the morning to find my heat not working at all. I called several other heating/ac companies on Angie's list that had the "star" rating and they all had long waits for service and could not give me a definite time when they would be available. I have two small children at home so fixing the heat in a timely fashion was imperative. I called A&E Heating and within 15 minutes they had a service technician named Michael who fixed the problem. He located a problem on the circuit board, fixed it easily, reset the circuit breaker to the unit and then taught me how to fix it myself next time. He also installed a new electronic thermostat. I was more than impressed with the service, the price, and the outright professionalism shown by this company and by Michael. Thank you so much.

A & E HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING INC did a superb job! They were always completely professional, from their initial evaluation of the equipment we needed, to their diagnosis of the problems we had encountered with our previous system, to their bid that described the equipment to be installed and services to be rendered, to the installation itself and the final cleanup and review. Each person associated with this company was extraordinarily knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant. They came on time and did everything they said they would do and more at a very fair price. In sum, I believe that they are the most professional group of people we have ever used. I would strongly recommend them to anyone and everyone who needs help with their HVAC systems.

Ron returned my voicemail within 10 minutes was able to schedule an appointment for the next afternoon. The next day Ron called me to let me know they had an opening and could move my appointment up a few hours if I wanted. The technician Tim evaluated my cooling system and cleaned the outdoor unit. Everything checked out okay and Tim explained everything he was doing and was generally very professional and knowledgeable. Also, he gave me some simple tips I could try to improve my system's efficiency and lower my heating/cooling bills.

David checked voltages high and low at the thermostat, there was no voltage that registered. Then he checked the furnace under the house and found a loose connection and fixed it . Then he checked the pressures on the airconditioner outside along with the wires etc. all checked out . all the while he was explaining what he was doing and why. David also encouraged me to get a lock for my crawl space. I appreciate that and now am sitting in a nice cool house. Thanks A&E. I highly recommend you.

He had just become Trane certified to offer extended warranties, so I worried a bit. He explained every bit of the job, to the point where I could tell he loved his job. It's a family tradition and I could tell that his work means a lot to him. He sized and installed a unit that ended up cutting my electricity costs in half. I always read that the most important part of a new HVAC is the installation and for 9 years I've had only expectable problems. Ron and his employees do my regular maintenance. I am about to buy a new house and have already had Ron price a new system. I don't want to chance my job with anyone else.

I found them to be very attentive to the schedule we had to have to make everything work. They actually were here on heir own initiative, in order words, ahead of the game plan. The worked very well with other subs and just made the whole process very pleasant. There was no complaining nor any mention of additional costs which they could have easily had reason to request. The day they switch from old to new system went very smooth with us having no heat for only about two hours on one of the coldest days of the winter. This required very exact timing with getting inspectors to job for approval so that we could avoid having to stay in a motel. Can't say enough about how pleasant they were to work with and would highly recommend them to anyone. I have been in the design business for over 35 years and wish I had know of them earlier because they would have been a great asset to my business.
Description of Work: We were demolishing an old addition and constructing a larger one. A&M was contracted to install new furnace and air condition for entire home but leaving the existing system in tact so we could live in house during construction. This required extra work on A&M's part because proper staging of project was essential . They also did venting for cooktop downdraft, dryer and tankless hot water heater. They even did venting for future completion of second floor so that vent holes could be cut prior to new roof being installed. This was something that I had not even thought of but they knew it should be done. Gas lines required for their project was included.

A&E is by far the best HVAC service team that I have ever dealt with. They were on site immediately after I called, as a working furnace was important to resolve (important to us meant important to them they said). They had a very experienced technician working the installation. He went into great detail about the proper care, and including an explanation of how the system works. He was very friendly and professional. We have requested that they come back to service our air conditioning unit. They talk straight and do great work. A+ from me.

The guy was very polite, knowledgeable, and punctual. We're hiring the company to come back and replace all of the ductwork under the house, something that we've been wanting to do for a long time (we live in a 40 year old house with original, failing and falling ductwork). We'd highly recommend them, and look forward to working with them again.
Description of Work: We had A&E come out to talk with us about options for our HVAC. One thing that we asked him to do was go under the house to check out the ductwork. One of our ducts had fallen away from a vent sometime ago, so the duct had basically fallen apart, and we had not been able to fix it on our own, no matter how hard we tried. He reattached the disconnected duct on the spot! He also cleaned the fins of the outside compressor, checked the freon pressure, checked the electronics (finding a switch that needs replacing). Inside, he cleaned out the air handler (including the coils,) inspected the heating system. We consider it an overall health check/tune-up/cleaning, preventive maintenance. He was very thorough, even unbolting the blower to inspect it. Inside, he found fallen insulation which was blocking the airflow, hence decreasing the efficiency. Total bill = $297. For the first time ever, we're looking forward to our next PSNC bill. I know it will be significantly less than usual.
