I researched several companies before making the decision to use this company. The company had many positive reviews and appeared to have a commitment to customer service. There was a "red flag" during my initial contact with sales inasmuch as the initial sales quote, which was supposedly valid for 30 days, was increased after the salesman discovered, based on later contact with a company technician, that additional installation adjustments would be necessary. The increase was "negotiated" with me paying for half of the increase, although I should have insisted that the initial quote was binding. On the scheduled date of installation, a second "red flag" went up after the installation crew arrived with the wrong furnace brand. The installation crew checked their order....the fault was with what was written up by the salesman. Nonetheless, if I had not been keenly observing, the wrong furnace would have been installed. Of course, this error resulted in valuable time being wasted since the salesman had to then arrange for the correct furnace to be delivered. I wish I could say this was the worst part, but trust me, things actually got worse! During the installation, a hole was cut in my roof for installation of a new roof vent. No one ever explained that this would be necessary, which led to a later issue about removal of the existing roof vent. The installation process was not completed until appropriately 8 p.m., due in part to the earlier delay caused by delivery of the wrong furnace, but also due to many communication problems between the three separate crews (sales, installation, electrical). After the installation was completed, a friend who previously worked in the HVAC business checked the area where the furnace had been installed and discovered a multitude of problems, including ducts from the former unit that had been "hidden" and stuffed into a larger duct resulting in improper air return. After calling the company owner and then being redirected to the installation supervisor, another installer was sent to make corrections a week or so later, with full acknowledgment of several significant installation errors. To correct the original errors, a new air return vent had to be installed, which then left me with TWO return ducts, the first of which had to be blocked off due to insufficient air return (all of this supposedly should have been explained by the salesman, but it was not). Again, I'd like to say this was the end of the problems, but it was not. The next issue was that when the county inspector came, the installation failed inspection. So, then weeks went by before the company returned to again make installation corrections. At this point, an unresolved issue was removal of the extra (old) roof vent. After speaking to the installation supervisor, he insured me that a the company would coordinate and send a roofing company to remove the old vent and complete related repairs. Another wait....but, eventually, a roofing contractor showed up one day, completely unannounced. These two guys arrived with basic low quality shingles which they acknowledged did not match my existing architectural shingles and were also not a matching color. Unbelievable....but, oh so true! After telling me they would obtain the correct shingles, we scheduled another appointment. On the date of the rescheduled appointment, the roofing company owner call and advised that due to staff sickness, the could not come. Well, John, it's now been almost ONE YEAR since I put my faith and trust in your company and this matter still remains unresolved! I purchased a quality unit, expecting the best with good/excellent customer service, and was even hoping that your company would be the one I called for all future HVAC needs. I waited and waited before writing this review, hoping that your company would honor your commitment to make this right. I have NEVER posted a negative review about a company, but I do feel that other potential customers should be informed as I cannot adequately begin to share my disappointment in your company.

The work started off ok. But now they are on day 11 of a job they told me would be completed in 3 days. In fact they haven't been back to finish the job in 7 days and counting. 90+ degree days with no AC. Not happy. Made several calls and no one will call me back.

This was a rather unique situation. I had hired another independent contractor to inspect my unit in December. He said it was too cold to inspect the AC (which was confirmed later by other companies). He said the heating unit was fine. The funny thing was, he never sent me a bill! I called him 2 or 3 times to request a bill and he said he just kept misplacing my address. After the third time I decided if he wanted to be paid he would have to contact me. I wasn't going to chase him down and throw money at him. He was supposed to come back in the spring to check the AC. A friend had said she and her husband had used Eanes for years and since Angie's List had so many good reviews I decided to try them. I have to be honest, I was concerned that with a bigger company would come a bigger price tag. First, they were supposed to show up between 10 and 12 that day. I received a call shortly before 8 saying they would be there in a few minutes. I had to ask them to delay 20 minutes because I had just gotten out of bed. I couldn't believe they were going to be 2 hours earlier than scheduled. It actually worked out better for me because of my full schedule for later in the day. However, if you have a job and had arranged to take time off to meet them at your house it might be a problem for you. For me, it worked out great. The two men were there almost 2 hours. They first checked the heating unit in the attic and discovered the capacitor was almost shot. They showed me with their instruments how to read the charge. It made me glad I had called them because I know it hadn't gone bad that quickly since December and the first guy either didn't check it or didn't have the parts, or didn't want to be bothered. It could have led to major repair bills or failure of the heating unit. Then when they checked the AC they had bad news that the capacitor there was going bad. It was not as in bad a shape as the heating, but was headed there. My unit is a little over 11 years old and after the first couple of years I had not had it serviced for other reasons. They spotted where the heating unit drip pan had overflowed years ago. I told them that happened the first month in the new house and it had leaked through the bathroom ceiling but the builder had had the repair done. They assured me there was no blockage but that would have been what originally caused the overflow. I signed up for an annual contract. I didn't use the Angie's List deal because what I have read about Angie's deals it appears that you pay but are moved to the end of the list. I have had far better luck contacting the companies directly. Often I get just as good a price or better. This time it was a little more expensive for the inspection ($118 vs. $94 on Angie's List) but I chose to sign up for the semi annual plan where they check the heating in the fall and the air in the spring for $169. My total bill was $447.41 for 2 capacitors, the inspection, a second inspection in the fall, and cleaning the outside unit so it looked like new. (No one had ever done that before.) I know that capacitors don't cost anywhere near what they charged me ($180 and $203) BUT I personally don't mess with electricity and it was worth it to have someone check the unit that knew what they were doing without being electrocuted. They told me it was good thing I had called because when the old capacitor failed the units would have failed and I would be looking at replacing both units. They assured me the heating unit would probably last another 10-12 years as long as I had it serviced regularly and the AC about another 5-7 years. I might have found someone who charged less, and I don't have the knowledge to know if I was vastly overcharged. I do know that going with an independent business man who cost less, might have cost me more in the long run. This is probably far more than most people will read, but I felt overall I received excellent service. Even though I could personally have bought the capacitors for less on Amazon, I know businesses have overhead, they have to have the training to know which parts to check and replace and you are paying for that knowledge. For me to assume they should do it for just 20% over the cost of the capacitor is foolish. In my profession, teaching, everyone thinks they know how to teach because they once sat in a classroom. I spent tens of thousands of dollars getting advanced degrees and thousands of dollars in training to do my job. So I assume I am paying for not just parts and labor, but for their knowledge. They also said that by purchasing the annual contract I receive a 10% discount (which I did) on that visit and future visits, no overtime charge if they have to come out on weekends, and I would be moved to the front of the list for future repair visits. The young men even swept the floor where attic insulation had fallen through the attic opening. I was very pleased with my visit and the time the men took to explain what they were doing and why they were doing it. They also left 2 filters for my unit. They would have installed them but I had just changed them myself the week before. All in all I was pleased with their professionalism and the job they did.
Description of Work: Inspected Heating and Air, provided an annual contract, installed 2 capacitors-one on heating and one on air and cleaned outside unit. Next visit is included in this price.

The guy shows up 15 minutes early for a 12:30 appointment and is agitated because I am not there, because he has scheduled a 1:00PM appointment in Winston-Salem, 20 minutes away. He is getting angry at me for poor planning on his part. Regardless, I get to my house before 12:30. I describe that I want a Steam Humidifier added to my HVAC system and he flat out says he is not interested, which is fine. I ask for a reason why, and he says I would not understand. I press him but he flat out refuses and takes off in a hurry. Eanes did not want to bother with a small fish like me. I was so angry I called the guy's supervisor. I believe his name was John. He does not bother to call me back until after 5:15PM, after I have gone home for the day. Disrespected by both contacts of EANES. Insult on top of Insult. If he and/or Eanes is not interested in my business, that is fine, but don't waste my time. If you want a company to do HVAC work for you, do NOT call EANES. If you want a company to waste your time and disrespect you, call EANES.
Description of Work: A technician from Eanes Heating and Cooling came to my house in Kernersville. We talked for 10 minutes regarding a steam humidifier I wanted to have installed. He said he was not interested, he would not tell me a reason, then he left. It was a total waste of my time.

I live in an upscale neighborhood and the job was not difficult. Tech showed up 10 minutes early for estimate to have a steam humidifier installed on home HVAC system. My wife said he seemed agitated. He had to be in Winston in 40 minutes and he was annoyed I was not there 10 minutes early. I showed up exactly on time, explained what I wanted, and even before we went to job site, he said he was not interested. I said fair enough, but at least tell me why. He flat out refused to say why he was not interested. It was a total waste of my time. Eanes HVAC does NOT deserve a good rating on Angie's List or anywhere else. I am happy for them that they can turn away customers without even hearing them out. This made me so angry, I called the guy's boss. The guy's boss did not bother to return my call until after I went home for the day. This added insult to injury and just made matters worse. I felt totally disrespected. You want to be blown off more than once, give EANES a call. You want HVAC work done, call someone else.
Description of Work: Provider did nothing. He said on the spot he was not interested and left quickly.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. [Member Name Removed], I sincerely apologize for the inadequate service that you experienced with our estimator. That frustration compounded by a return call later than you expected would understandably leave a bad taste in your mouth with our company. We would like a chance to redeem ourselves if you are willing and the humidifier has not already been installed by another company. Please let us know if we can send a different estimator to your home to provide the positive service experience our company is known for. We would love to assist you with the right steam humidifier for your home. Again, my apologies for your initial negative experience. Thank you for your feedback as we seek to continually improve our service.

While working on a remodeling job our electricians notified us that they smelled gas while in the attic. I called the gas company last night and they informed me that we had two small leaks and would need to turn the furnace off until we could get it fixed. (Side note: We have had an annual service contract with another company in the area but have been less than satisfied on more than one occasion) We opted to call Eanes based on previous recommendations and were not disappointed! From my initial contact with Pam to our service call with Eric, it was an awesome experience. Not only did they come earlier than expected (within two hours of my call), they found a total of 8 small leaks that were simply the cause of pipes not being tightened properly to begin with. It seems to me (and I'm obviously not an expert) that some of these leaks, which surely did not happen all at one time, would have been discovered on service calls from our previous company. To make a long story short, they were here approximately 2 hours, completed all repairs, I have my heat back AND we asked to be set up with an annual service contract. If this call was any indication of our future calls with Eanes we will be VERY satisfied customers.

Eanes installed a new A/C and gas furnace for me. The communication to me from the start was poor (sales man Doug Powell). But the install guys showed up and got the job done that day, all though it took till past midnight for the start up man to finish his job. Did not bother me much but the wife was upset about having to wait so late. As part of the install new system, a city inspection is required to make sure the new install meets code. This is where the majority of my problems arise. DO NOT PAY UNTIL AFTER PASSES, or suffer my fate you may. The city inspector failed the install for 3 reasons. I expected Eanes to call back to arrange a time to fix the problems, but they never did. So I started calling them, but was told that the inspection failed because I was not at home for it.. humm, strange that I would have met the guy and him told me the reasons, but ok. Finally they figure it out and agree to send a repair man back out. I had already fixed one of the issues my self, and the repair man worked on the other two. The city inspector approved one of them, but failed the other. Again I wait for a call to arrange the fix of the last problem, again I am disappointed. Eventually I am able to get them to come out again, and the repair man assures me that the problem is fixed, yet it again it fails. Again no call back, so I call and ask for help again. Dates are promised, and come and go with out being met. I am a patient man (you can see install in 5/15, this post is 1/16), but for real this is the worst customer service. So if you use them, avoid Doug, and don't pay the bill till the City says it is OK.

Eanes did a fantastic job on our installation. We were happy with the work. The technicians were very punctual, and they've always been responsive when we have had to call for service, even on our older unit. The only thing I don't like is how hard they push you on the maintenance contract. They send you an invoice for it after year one, as if you had already agreed to buy an annual contract, and they're requesting payment for something you agreed to purchase. We did not like that, and subsequently did not purchase the maintenance contract. Having said that, I just scheduled another appointment to have them quote me on another new unit for an additional property. I cannot overestimate the value of their responsiveness, and quality of the installation. I am wary of budget installers, and based on my limited knowledge, I think the quality of the install is even more important than the brand of heat pump selected. That's why I like Eanes.

After finally deciding to allow Eanes to perform the work, I called them back on August 6, 2015 and advised the very nice lady in the office that we would like to proceed with the work. She indicated that since Mr. Purgason had provided the estimate, we would need to talk with him to schedule it but he was on vacation and would return on Monday, August 10th. She indicated he would call us on Monday to schedule our work to be performed. We waited through Monday and Tuesday. Finally, on Wednesday, August 12th, I called back and spoke with Pam (also a very nice lady). She indicated that Mr. Purgason was there but was in a meeting so she put me through to his voice mail. I left a very detailed message for him and asked for a return call as we were very anxious to get this work performed. Mr. Purgason did not call back on Wednesday. So, again on Thursday, August 13th, I called back and talked with Pam again. She was appropriately embarrassed but said she would page him to see if he was in the building and get him to call me back. I left a home and a work number where I could be reached. Today is Friday and we have still not heard anything back from either Mr. Purgason or Eanes. I will not make another phone call to Eanes as I refuse to try to track someone down to do a job. There are others who will be more than happy for our business. After reading all of the positive comments from customers, we are so disappointed by the lack of courtesy and professionalism exhibited by Mr. Purgason. If he or Eanes did not want to perform this work, we would have preferred that he had been honest with us and simply said "I/We don't want this job". I would have respected that. Instead, I have lost a full week waiting on call backs that never came. Clearly, our business was either not important to Mr. Purgason or he didn't feel that the money was worth the effort to do the work. Also, if I remember correctly, Mr. Purgason has a management title with Eanes and if this is true, this makes our experience with Eanes so much worse. You don't expect service like this (or the lack thereof) from a member of a company's management team. So unprofessional...so disappointing. Other Angie's List members - take heed.
Description of Work: We called to get an estimate for replacing all of our duct work. Mr. Purgason with Eanes came at the appointed time and provided a written estimate of the cost. We obtained several estimates and while Eanes was not the cheapest, they were not the highest either. We chose to have the work performed by Eanes since their ratings and comments on Angie's List were so good.

I have used Eanes since they did the original inspection on my house HVAC prior to closing. They have never had to fix anything twice! They have fixed various leaks over the past 5 years including 1 compressor. The technicians are pretty thoughtful and when addressing a compressor issue (on my third for a heat pump) they suggested an alteration to the system which has proved beneficial. While not the cheapest guys around - you pay for what you get. Having suffered through 2 years of a home warranty where you are forced to use their providers, I was glad to return to Eanes. Now my system is dead and no longer worthy of additional investments and they are on the top of my list for replacement.

I have been a customer of Eanes since 2012. The technicians have all been very knowledgeable and professional with excellent customer service. My issue is with their clerical staff. One in particular,Amy, was so cold and disrespectful that I changed HVAC companies. Mr Eanes contacted me by email to express his concern and denied having an Amy in his employ. He even offered me the possibility of a free service. However, I opted not to continue with Eanes. Customer service staff are the face of a organization as the first point of contact for the public. I have mixed feeling about Eanes H&C. The service desk and technician were very friendly. My appointment was for 3pm, but no one came until 4:15-4:30. I was then told the appointment was for arrival BETWEEN 3 and 5pm - I did not know this. If they are giving a window, it would be nice to know when they are coming when they leave the previous job. When the tech arrived, he used his plastic shoe covers and did a walk through of the house. Checked all the inside air filters and took notes on the system. We just moved into the house and talked about checking out the furnace as well. This is when he presented the "service package" where you pay up front for 2 visits per year. We signed up and he agreed to give our furnace a quick look over that day as a courtesy. After we signed up, he began explaining how capacitors go bad on the blower fans causing them to burn out - I thought this was a bit weird because it came out of nowhere before he even looked at my AC or furnace. Next, the tech went into the crawlspace to check out the blower and 15 mins later I am told that I need a new capacitor for $80-90. He gave a very thorough explanation about why I needed one. I told him I would think about it while he checked out the AC compressor. (While he checked the AC compressor, I went inside and Googled furnace capacitors only to find out they cost about $9.99 on Amazon and take 45 seconds to install.) He called me outside to show me the AC capacitor and proceeded to tell me it needed replaced, but had life left in it. Basically, the capacitor should read 40 mf +/- 5 mf (some techs say +/- 10%). Mine read 38.5 mf, which is well within the suggested limit. When I confronted him about the cost of the furnace capacitor and amount of work it takes, he dropped his price to $60. I again passed saying I will just replace it myself for $10. There was no arguing or anything and he was very respectful the entire time. Eanes will be back out in the fall to service the furnace. Since the visit - I have checked the capacitance of the furnace run capacitor. It is a 4 mf capacitor and has checked out 3 different times at 4.06 mf. Almost perfect.

I was extremely happy that I chose Eanes to install my cental air and heat. My house is 51 years old and has never had central air or heat, so there was no existing duct work of any kind in the house, nor any floor or ceiling vents. Due to having a garage door in the basement, all my duct work had to be metal to meet code, and due to my respiratory problems, I needed all the duct work to be insulated on the outside of the ducts, which is a much bigger and more complicated job than having the insulation installed on the inside. I also needed 2 return grills and requested 6 transfer grills be installed in my inside doors. By the way. I have 9 cats, so I couldn't have installers who were allergic to cats. I got 6 estimates and Eanes was in the middle with their estimate. I found that some companies wouldn't put the duct insulation on the outside, and one company told me that I would have to board all my cats for the entire 8 days they would be installing, plus an add'l 2 weekend days for a total of 10 days at a cost of about $1,000 to me, plus a lot of unhappy cats. I ultimately chose Eanes because, Doug Powell, the estimator showed up on time, was friendly and knowledgeable in discussing several options, said they would have no problem working with me to move my cats out of their way, and was quick to get back to me with an estimate (one company took 3 weeks and numerous phone calls). Doug kindly answered my countless questions, before I committed to having Eanes do this job. There were a couple of extra things I wanted done after he gave me the estimate, which he included at no extra charge. The 1st day, Brian, the lead installer, and Terry showed up on time to start cutting holes for the vents. Brian was extremely nice about completing the work he had to do in one room, before moving onto the next one, so I could move my cats into the finished rooms. Both Brian and Terry answered all my questions and explained what they were doing as they went along. They also told me at the end of each day when they would be back the next day. They were extremely professional and moved right along with the work. I not sure I ever saw them take a break. After the 1st 2 days, 2 additional installers came to help complete the job, so it would be finished in a timely manner. They were all friendly, quiet and cleaned up each day before they left. Roger Moody, the electrician that Eanes uses, and his assistant were also extremely professional and very good about explaining what they would be doing and how everything would work after they replaced my old fuse box with new circuit breakers. There were a couple of snafus along the way, and you might expect in a large 6 days job like this, but they were resolved very quickly and to my complete satisfaction. The Friday before Memorial Day they were trying to finish up before the 3 day weekend and Doug, the installer, came out and helped them for the last half of the day. They all were going to wind up having to stay late to get everything completed and in good working order so I could start using the A/C, but no one complained. I found out late in the day that Brian, the lead installer, was getting married the next day in Sapphire, NC, but he stayed til everything was completely finished. I was very impressed with his dedication to quality and his commitment to the job the entire time that he was here. I really can't say enough good things about all these guys. They were great from start to finish--friendly, knowledgeable, helpful in every way, and extremely professional. My new A/C works great and I love it. High praise to everyone at Eanes.

They were friendly and they were good. They answered all questions and they took time if I had any questions. I didn’t say anything bad. I just assumed that they would change my filter. They didn’t have the filter so I made a little note on their Facebook page to make sure they have all the supplies ready for their customers, which is not the service providers fault. They said they just run out of stock and they had ordered. He came in a few days, put it in and everything was fine. It was a bad thing I had to say but other than that, they were good. I decided to go with them because I had a coupon. I would say that they are friendly and that they’ll do a good service. They’ll take time to answer all your questions. They had to come back but they kept their first appointment instead of they did what they could do. Eventually they did come out so that was good. There are cheaper people out there.
Description of Work: I used Eanes Heating And Air. They just did servicing on the air conditioner and they changed the furnace filter.

They put in my Carrier central air/heat over 10 years ago. Have been maintaining it on yearly contract. They have prevented major problems with the unit by catching things early. They clean the filters and even take the extra time to quiet my now aging unit with rubber rings even though I didn't complain about noise. They pay attention to detail and give me a report when done of the state of the unit and anything they had to do. My unit has handled the summer heat waves in the 100s and the polar vortexes with no problem. I attribute it to the great care Eanes does in inspecting and servicing it twice a year.

They did a really good job. They came out and they fixed it. I submitted a request to come and fix something and they did that really quickly. It was good service. They came to provide the service within a couple of days I purchased the big deal. They scheduled pretty quickly for me. A couple of days after that, I had an issue with the heater and they took care of that for me as well. Everything worked. They did the whole thing that I asked them to do. I was happy with them. They did whatever they were supposed to do. They were very friendly. They were very prompt. I really felt that they have done a good job. Their customer service is good. I felt that I had a good deal. They came when they said they were going to come. They came at the end of the day so for me it was very convenient. They accommodated my schedule. They were very professional. I used them again within a couple of days.
