Our 8 year old Sears LT1000 riding mower had been performing poorly this season. I had been changing the oil and doing PM on it (blades, belts, etc.) but it began running rough, cutting off. Then it began to be impossible to crank, but would after turning the engine past "top point" a couple times. I thought it was a bad starter, but then it began to blow white smoke, choke down and backfire. Checked the oil and there was gas in it. Thought gasket had blown. We checked Angie's List for small engine repair in the Hickory NC area and found only Charlotte businesses listed. A neighbor recommended Mt View Home and Garden. What a find! If you need work done in this area, this is the place. The mechanic in back was finishing my sentences before I was halfway through explaining the symptoms: Carbeurator. He promised it in a week, then finished it in 3 days (even though it was the week before July 4th!). A very detailed WRITTEN explanation from the mechanic on what exact problem(s) were and what they did to fix it. Emptied all fluids out of engine, pulled and re-built the carb and gasket and replaced oil all for less than $80! The clogged carbeurator was blowing by gas, causing the cylinder to flood and "lock up" hydraulically, then flood the crankcase. Good news is the starter was fine; These folks work on everything from large farm tractors to weed whackers. Quick efficient service, no slick talk or price jacking.
