I was driving home and 1 of there work trucks backed in to me. He was a shorter hispanic man and seemed to be impaired. He started cussing at me saying he didn't hit my car. He walked back to his truck and I thought he was getting his information. He jumped in it and took off. When I called the office, they were not helpful at all and the woman at the front desk was rude. I would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: None but they need to fix my car.

We wanted to do some major renovations to our NC vacation home (i.e., kitchen, powder room, master bath, new windows, new flooring throughout, etc.), but due to recent tornado damage needed to start with the roof first. As such, in late January 2018 we contacted Gene Glaze and explained that we wanted to add a cantilevered roof extension of our front entry overhang to create a more protected area for parking near the front door. We needed this roof extension done without columns so as not to lose the use of any portion of our driveway. Gene arrived at our house with his colleague to discuss our ideas. Again, we were adamant that we wanted the roof extension done with cantilevers and NOT columns as we couldn't afford to lose any space in our driveway. We explained to Gene that if the roof extension we wanted was not structurally possible that we'd be okay with that. Just tell us as much and we'll scrap that idea and move on to our other renovations. Gene and his colleague took multiple photos and measurements of the front of our house. Gene advised that he required a $365 up front fee for his conferring with an engineer about our project and for creating renderings of his concepts. So on March 30, 2018 we sent Gene a check for his fee and got busy waiting for his creation. And we waited. And we waited. And we waited. Several emails & phone calls (from us) later it was revealed that Gene was awaiting our return to NC to personally show us his renderings rather than simply emailing them to us. On May 24, 2018, we met with Gene at his Hickory, NC office to see what amazing concepts he had designed for the front entry of our home. Imagine our utter dismay when Gene handed us three color photocopies of a photo of the front of our house with a drawing of a front entry roof extension perched on columns sitting right in the middle of our driveway. He literally designed exactly what we explicitly told him we DIDN'T want! When we asked Gene if pushing the columns back closer to the house and spacing them further apart was an option he advised that it might work, but he would get together with his engineer again to find out for sure and he would let us know. Needless to say, we left that meeting feeling completely ignored, disappointed and $365 poorer. As of the date of this review (July 17, 2018) we still have not heard from Gene Glaze with the answers to our questions. He did not keep his promise to "get with his engineer" and attempt to tweak his designs to our specifications. He makes promises to call or to have his interior decorator call, but never follows through. The three photocopies of the drawings he provided us were not worth more than $50, so I'm not sure where the $315 we paid went and I doubt we'll ever know.

Description of Work: They had a good reputation as far as ratings went, but they only seemed to call back after hours and only left a general office phone number. One time I called back within a couple of minutes after they called but were routed to their voicemail. Hence, it took more than a month to actually talk to someone (Gene). If Gene would have left his cell number on his first call back, we possibly would have had a relationship. Instead, we hired another firm who immediately gave us a cell number.

Gene Glaze is a highly professional and ethical contractor. He has a remarkably skillful office manager and a wonderful software system that facilitates and clarifies all communications. His site foreman is a wonderful carpenter and impressive manager. He also has outstanding subcontractors. From the design phase through the walk-through, this has been a creative process and an outstanding example of skill and workmanship. Things went wrong; they were corrected. The project turned out to be more extensive (and expensive) than anticipated. This is a seventy-five year old house that was not always well maintained. Throughout its life, owners and their contractors sometimes took short cuts that now had to be repaired; Deterioration was more extensive than expected. At every turn, Gene provided photographs and explanations of the issues, presented several options for repair, and provided clear statements of cost for each. That's all that a client can expect from a contractor. He welcomed my occasional site visits, providing access and guidance as necessary. I learned that if Gene asked if I had thought of something, I could ignore it. When he raised it a third time, I recognized that I would be wise to pay close attention. He and office staff made numerous suggestions, some of which actually cut costs. They maintained clear communication with vendors and suppliers. He and his crew are the best.
