Overall I was very happy with the job that Mike White and his employee's did on our house. The previous home owners of our house put on a new roof approximately 5 years prior to our purchase. I think the roofer they hired was blind, as it turned out to be some of the most shoddy work I had ever seen. Water began pouring through our ceiling in several places about 4 years after we purchased the home, causing extensive ceiling damage inside out home. We also noticed that the beam supporting the roof over the front porch of our home began to sag, and upon examination found that nearly the entire support beam was rotten due to water literally pouring into it for years. We contacted Mike White on the recommendation of a co-worker. Mike showed up for the estimate right on time, and walked me through everything that he was planning to do. Mike did not supply a written estimate, he only called a few days later with a price. Mike turned out to be on the high side of the estimates we received, but he gave us the best "feeling" as to who would be the right person for the job. Mike dropped off roofing samples for us, and answered all of our questions quickly. They began the job within a week of the agreement on time, without a deposit, however he asked for and I paid him half the estimate after the first week on the job, paying the last half at the conclusion of the job. Anyone who has ever had a roof replaced knows how loud the process is, and well there is no way around it. The two workers that Mike had worked hard everyday, and were very carefull to keep roofing nails out of my yard, running a magnet over the yard daily. On one occasion though, I did do a double check on my driveway just out of caution. I ended up picking up close to 20 roofing nails in the driveway that would have caused me problems that day had I not looked. During the tear off, Mike contacted me to advise me that the damage to the roof framing was worse then he had expected, and that it would be best to apply OSB to the entire roof. My home was built in the 1940's and had slates supporting the shingles, some with as much as two inches between the next slat. This turned out to be part of the reason my roof was leaking, as the previous roofer nailed through the shingles into nothing instead of the slats. Mike warned me he could do the same thing but would not be comfortable leaving it that way. The OSB increased my total by about $1000 over the estimate, but this could not have been seen without taking the roof shingles off. Mike also replaced the rotten beam with new construction, which appears to be twice as sturdy as the old one. He had to use a jack to lift the front porch roof, build a temporary support wall and pull out the columns supporting the roof to replace the beam. They had to back a large truck into my front yard for waste which put ruts in my front yard, but nothing to major, just a couple bumps on the lawnmower. They did chip a piece of one of my concrete column supports and no one told me about that. During the roofing job, rain threatened us once, and they had tarps over the exposed wood well before the rain got here. They had the roof up in no time, and it looks great! I have not had a single leak since the new roof was put in place. Mike even came inside and replaced a piece of drywall on my ceiling that had fallen through due to previous water damage. Overall good experience.
