Rick and Josh did an incredible job modernizing our North Asheville home. The quality of the work was excellent and they were communicative and transparent. They added an entirely new deck to the lower level of our home and the craftsmanship was top notch. Rick is a true professional and I would absolutely work with him again.

Rick has been so great to work with! He's good at communicating his progress and transparent about things that are happening outside his control (ex: COVID-related delay from the screen company). The deck and patio he built are BEAUTIFUL and will last for many, many years. His prices were also more than reasonable. Would definitely work with him again!

I have used the Carolina Carpenter (Rick Cox and son) for many years; the most professional and trustworthy of any contractor I have ever hired. This time, the water damage was hardly visible, but behind the facade there was considerable damage all the way to the framing. The problem, caused by improper drainage, was identified by the contractor. He used the very best materials to fix it. Most important, he came back several times to make sure what he did was working as intended. The finished job looks beautiful and I know it will last for a long time. Rick Cox is the best!

Absolutely Fantastic I have worked with many wonderful contractors over the years but Rick Cox (dba Carolina Carpenter) is at the top of the list. He and his son, Josh, are extremely talented, resourceful and get the job done at a reasonable cost. They and the electrician, plumber and other professionals they use are delightful to work with and of the highest honesty and integrity. In June 2018 my wife and I purchased a house in Connestee Falls, Brevard, NC which was beautifully located but in need a great deal of work. After interviewing a number of contractors, we chose Rick because of his directness, obvious competence and easy manner. The renovation required complete gutting of the core areas, including the removal of several walls and a faux stone wood-burning fireplace. Rick started while we were still in NY and when we arrived in mid-August, he had neatly removed the fireplace. In the following 11 months, he replaced it with gas burning fireplaces in the living room and adjoining Master Bedroom (a very difficult thing to do in the space we had), expanded the rear hall, closed several exterior windows, installed 4 exterior windows and sliding doors, re-floored, re-sided and painted most of the common areas, rebuilt and upgraded the stairway to the lower level and put in a fantastic new kitchen. The project cost six figures and encountered many setbacks as removal of walls and floors exposed poor electrical work and many other preexisting deficiencies. However, in each case, Rick, Josh and his associates developed creative solutions and, as we went along, they helped us refine our vision of what we wanted so that the finished product far exceeded our initial expectations. With his fine carpentry expertise, Rick provided a new beamed ceiling and log mantle and wood work around the new living room fireplace which is itself the artistic focal point of the room. He also transformed an eye-sore half wall into a beautiful built-in cabinet which is integral to the new dining area. Rick and Josh work quietly and efficiently and are upfront about timelines and their availability. In fact, when the demands of a difficult new client caused them to fall behind the timeline they set, they worked on weekends to get current. Rick did an awesome job and had great communication to set up the time to do the work. He kept the area he was working at in my house very clean. The shelves looked professional built and he had a lot of obstacles to over come to get the shelves in. I would recommend him and use him again.

Great. Steps were done in 4 hours. Rick and his son were very helpful. Very good clean-up and you couldn't beat the price.

This is the second time we have hired Rick (and Josh) for a job. Again, they completed our job with flying colors. They were very professional, completed the project in a timely fashion, and the outcome was exceptional. We would not hesitate to refer and/or hire them again should we need another project done.

Wow, what a great job. The workmanship was terrific, they were clean and careful, and really pleasant to work with. We think the work looks great, and so do our friends... even the mailman mentioned how nice it looked.

Project went very well - we're excited about the house that we used to enjoy as a weekend retreat but now see as more of a real home that someday might be full-time. Rick and Josh and the subcontractors they work with do high quality work. Rick came up with a couple of design change suggestions that resulted in a beautiful place. One of them - to open the wall between the kitchen and the sun room, providing a breakfast bar in between - "made" the project. What used to be a cool place, but dark and closed in, is now an open, light, inviting space. We were across the country when Rick first imagined this change while replacing the 'offending' wall - he rearranged the construction schedule around our trip, enabling us to get back in time to agree to the change. Although we're not highly skilled we wanted to do as much as we could to contribute sweat equity to this project, and Rick was willing to work with us on a cost-plus basis. We saved some money by doing a lot of the destruction and cleanup as well as painting and some of the finish work (molding). Rick and Josh were patient working with us and very willing and able in teaching us techniques. We mostly live on the other side of the state and also traveled out of state for about two months just as the project started. Rick has been very good throughout at maintaining communications via phone, text and email. We were pleased with his communications and also, as he got to know us, his ability to distinguish which decisions to consult with us on and which to make on his own. We knew going in that the total cost would exceed any estimate (as all construction does), an issue exacerbated here by working with an old house that had issues we couldn't know until we got in there. Rick provided very detailed information on costs throughout the process, and we're very pleased that he was fair and honest all the way through. We're very happy that we chose Carolina Carpenter for this work, will call Rick again if we ever do another project in the area, and highly recommend the company.

Rick and his son Josh did a wonderful job!! Prices were fair and the work was excellent. Rick was great about adjusting things in the project if I decided I wanted something a little different. We are so pleased and wouldn't hesitate to use Carolina Carpenter again.

We hired Rick to convert our existing screened porch to a sun room. He had wonderful ideas to make this happen and great follow through. From tearing out the walls, rebuilding the room (but saving our existing slate floor), installing windows and a new door, and the final painting, it was an excellent job. He paid a great deal of attention to design and detail. He will be our go-to guy for any additional projects we may want to do. We highly recommend him.

Project went well. Did take longer than expected to complete due to an extrremaley wet and Rainey Fall.

Work to be done on an older house to add updated and efficient spaces that would blend in with the style and quality of the home. Construction was to be done while occupied. Can't say enough about how easy Rick was to work with. He even traveled out-of-state to meet with us before starting. He always was so accommodating, always ready to discuss any fine tuning. He was always cheerful and a complete gentleman while working on the premises, with adults and children. He worked hard to find the appropriately designed parts and pieces (custom doors, handles, hinges, molding, etc.). We went over every detail carefully and we came to a consensus. I always felt reassured that it would be done right, and if there was a problem or slight delay with a part, he'd call. His price seemed very fair, as far as I could determine. We clearly defined and decided all costs up front and there were no overages. This was a deciding factor I really wanted. The quality of work was high. He showed up on time to begin, worked most every day and left it finished as per our desired deadline.

Rick Cox and his crew at Carolina Carpenters were skilled and professional from the very beginning to the very end of our project. They designed and created a focal point in the living area of our home. There were two aspects of the work that we felt were exceptional: The quality and care that was put into the project was outstanding and unlike many contractors, Rick Cox did exactly what he said he would do and when he said he would do it. We will happily use the services of Carolina Carpenter again for our next home renovation project.

Rick and his staff are very easy to communicate with and do excellent work. I would hire him again in an instant and in fact will be soon. I bought a foreclosure built in 1925 and he has helped me to do what is necessary to restore it to an excellent condition. He has the knowledge I needed and the skills and help me for what I thought was a reasonable cost.

THE PROJECT WENT GREAT !!!!! MOST OF THE WORK WAS DONE WHILE WE WERE IN FLORIDA. RICK WAS VERY COMMUNICATIVE, SOMETIMES EVERY DAY, ALWAYS TO MAKE SURE WE LIKED WHAT HE WAS DOING. RICK WAS ABLE TOOK TIME TO SENT US LOTS OF PICTURES,SO WE COULD SEE EACH DETAIL RICK ALSO MADE SUGGESTIONS TO SAVE ON CONSTRUCTION COST. ( A+) I DON'T KNOW HOW HE PUT UP WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER EVERDAY, BUT HE HAS THE PATAINCE OF A SAINT. CLEAN UP WAS REMARKABLE, AND I KNOW IT WAS DONE ON A DAILY BASCIS. THING WENT SO WELL, I HIRED HIM TO DO ANOTHER SECTION OF THE HOUSE.

They were very professional from start to finish. Great communication. And the finished product was exactly what we wanted. Definitely will call back.

Rick was very responsive to my emails and phone calls. He consulted with me if he found any additional work that needed to be done and kept me up to date on the progress. The damage needing to be repaired was a little more extensive in some places than anticipated and he repaired all of it so it would not become a problem in the future. His work was high quality, he used good materials and my railing looks even better than the one he replaced. I would highly recommend and plan to use him again in the near future for some additional work.

They did a great job of giving us design advice, preparing the foundation, construction and finishing work. Very honest and forthright, they felt like family! We are happy with the results and we have worked with several contractors and workmen on many projects in 40 years of having homes. These guys were the best.

Good talk, decided to go with another contractor

This was the first time Rick and his son ever installed a murphy bed so it probably took them a little longer than they expected. When it was finished, it was perfect as was his previous work. The guys really do nice work and I know this bed will never be a problem!

The experience of getting the quote was very smooth. He outlined the cost very effectively but I had to put the project on hold. The quote was for $4300.

Rick and his helper spent 3days making sure the jacks in the crawl space for the foundation were on the right amount of concrete and spaced right. He also examined the ventilation and moisture issues and corrected some air flow. He replaced the plastic that had been bunched up. The inspector said it would be about $1000 to do this and we were happy with the amount.

We were pleased with Rick in his prompt reply and the patience he showed as we made necessary changes to the bid. He was our second choice for the job. We went with another contractor due to some things we liked better and a time factor. We would encourage others to consider him.
