When the guys came over to do the quote, they were a couple of the nicest guys I'd ever met. He told me he would have a quote for me by Friday, but did not receive a quote. After about 3 weeks of contacting him I did finally receive the quote and called to schedule him to do the work. He said he would be here this afternoon (February 24, 2012) to do the work. I was gone throughout the morning and I had a meeting in the afternoon so I called to let him know I was leaving a key for him. He told me that they had already been there at 11:30 and I wasn't. He told me they had already returned everything to Home Depot and that they were done, essentially blaming me for not being there at a time we had not scheduled.

He was extremely professional and arrived when he said he would. He finished the work very quickly and the end result was very good.

Overall, Mr Duffy and his apprentice did an excellent job rebuilding my garage roof. The final appearance of the roof compared to what existed before was at least a 200% improvement. I believe Mr. Duffy derives a great deal of satisfaction from seeing the end product of his labor and being satisfied that it meets his standards. I think he approaches the job with an emphasis on craftsmanship rather than making the almighty dollar. If I paid more than necessary for the job, it was worth it to me to have Mr Duffy take his time and get every rafter attached squarely, etc. The roof, after he decked it and before the metal was applied, looked very flat, no undulations or unevenness. The ridge looked straight. I never felt Mr. Duffy rushed to finish the job. The job took about 2 weeks longer than I expected to be completed. Some of that may be due to the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons and perhaps other jobs he was co-working. Mr Duffy listened and responded to my suggestions such as installing radiant barrier-backed decking. It was easy to discuss alternatives with him. Once a proposal was agreed upon he handled the permitting process with the city and accepted payment in stages with final payment withheld until after inspections were complete. I expect to do more business with Mr. Duffy in the future. I enjoyed working with him..

Great. He showed up on time, did the work, and came back to check the shower. Very nice man. Dependable and works hard. Quality is important to Johnny.

Johnny is a professional. He provides an exact quote ahead of time, he always arrives on time, work completes quickly, and he and his crew are unfailingly friendly and helpful.

Everything was okay. They did acceptable work.

It did not go as well as expected, considering that we hired him based on his "A" ratings on Angie's list. The work was sloppy, incomplete, and he has failed to contact us regarding our questions.

He was wonderful. I would definitely use him again.

I was unhappy with the work performed and contacted Mr. Duffy. He said he would call me back to schedule an appointment. He did not call me back and has not responded to follow-up messages that I have left him.

During the inspectiions, we could not determine the plumbing because it leaked so bad we were unable to turn the water on. There were no shut offs at the sinks. We called John and asked him to look at it and fix what he could, including putting shut offs so we could turn the water on. He came out and walked the property with us on the phone (we hadn't moved yet) to determine what it needed. Did everything we needed and more as there was another open pipe in the gargage that he discovered after turning the water on. Also had his electrician check the box and give us advise on that. (we need to upgrade the service and get it to current code). They were responsive, personable, and got the job done. This is an old home built in the 20's and will need more work. We will be calling John back as we develope our plan on how to improve the property.

Mr. Duffy gave me an accurate estimate, showed up at to do the work at the appointed time, did an excellent job with all three tasks, and completed them in a timely and efficient manner.

He gave me a written estimate that was perfect. It was wonderful. I am very, very pleased with him. The estimate was reasonable. My son, who has been doing construction all his life, looked at it and said that the prices were good. He is very professional. On the side of his truck, he has his name, license number, email address and phone number. He has a really nice truck. He was clean and well groomed. He was handyman dressed but he was clean and well dressed. His fingernails were clean which really impressed me. He has lived in the same area forever and even married a girl from his elementary school, which met a lot to me. He knew everything and he was right on time.

tile and thresholds were worked on, the tile work was excellent. the thresholds didn't match the wood floor and we will have to refinish those for a more correct match

Called Mr. Duffy and got a call back within an hour. He agreed to meet me on the 7th of September for an estimate. Estimate very reasonable. He had told me it might be a week before he could get to the job on the phone. During the estimate process, he surprised me and said he could do it the following day! Repairs included fix two outside doors from dog damage and plane them as they were sticking. He came at the appointed time, worked quickly and got the job done. We asked if he would also look at a closet door. He fixed that also. Be advised his estimate was $230, but he only charged us $150.! We will definately call him in the future.

John is excellent! He provided with me a reasonable, timely estimate, and he has been very friendly and personable. We've scheduled work to start around the beginning of September.

I have no worries with him. He did good work. I expect that he will do the next job as well as he did everything else. He was a little expensive, but it was in line since you can’t find too many people to do these sorts of things. There is never a lot of room to wiggle there, but I haven’t really compared his price to anyone else. They charge about $80 an hour. John is not just a handyman, but he is a contractor. He did the work himself and didn’t have a helper. He always answers phone and he is always on time. I would use his services in the future too.

John was very friendly and helpful when I called. He then came out and inspected what I needed done. Got a written estimate via e mail a day later. John scheduled to start August 8 and showed up and completed the work in 2 and 1/2 days. He had to move stuff around in the garage to do the work includiong unfastening the garage door opener hangers and he did so with no question. He also pleasantly suirprised me by how neat he was when he started the mudding and sanding. Every day he cleaned up and left the garage spotless. Very good quality in his work and I plan on using John for several other renovations I am planning.

He is reliable and good. His work holds up. He is easygoing and knows what he is doing. If you need to make changes he adapts well to this. He is good to talk to and make a plan.

Fine.. All went well from arrival to completion.

John was courteous, professional, and high quality. The work was great, though the price could have been a little less. Nonetheless, John went above and beyond the call of duty, even identifying some small issues that we did not see and putting in a few additional details in the work to prevent future issues. John is an approachable fella who does a very good job. We recommend him highly and plan on using him for future work.

The process was excellent! Johnny showed up on time and he was very helpful! He is like no other repair man that I've ever dealt with. I will be using his services again and again. Meeting John made joining Angie's List worth every penny!!!!

I enjoyed Johnny's easy manner and professionalism. He arrived on time and got down to business. I was sure after the "door replacement", which was the last that of the jobs, that I would have heard some discouraging words but he kept at it until it was done his way.....right. Today (5/16/2011) I called Johnny because I noticed a gap along the side of the new door. He was here within 5 minutes!!! Fixed the gap with no problem. I guess I would call him....Johnny on the spot.... I can only say how pleased I am with the overall experience. I intend to hire him again without question. Thank you Angie's List for helping me find John Duffy.

Overall things went well. I recommend that you discuss all aspects of the work to be performed make no assumption about what work is included. Include in the contract everything that you expect to be done as a part of the project, be specific. You may also want to anticipate additional days if you're taking time off from work to have the work done and the job requires a city permit. The inspections if any are required can cause a work delay waiting for an inspection to be completed.
