Reliant Roofing and Restoration

Work was fine but owner refuses to provide basic documentation (a detailed invoice) required by insurance company to complete certification of roof as IBHS Bronze Fortified. This means we cannot get any of the program's benefits related to reduced insurance premiums. Failure to provide the detailed invoice is also a violation of NC General Statute 75 Article 9. Repeated attempts to get this invoice have been unsuccessful. In fact, getting any of the IBHS required paperwork out of him was beyond difficult.

The work is very good, but the time from start to finish is too long.

The new roof is excellent beautiful as well as highly functional. We were well pleased with the workmanship and quality of the roof it's self. The workers that installed the new roof were very helpful and did a great job with the roof only. We had our main house and guest house and shop done with the same roofing all to match. This turned out Beautifuly... However , the promises made by the salesman at the beginning of this deal were and are lacking. Reliant roofing promised to make the guttering and and painting of the facia boards look new to match the roof. We had it in writing about all the facia boards and they regrettably said they would do the painting of facia boards and around our columns and front porch along with the garage ceiling. Reliant roofing apologized for the first painters they contracted out to do the job. I knew it was a bad sign when one of the workers had on house arrest ankle braclet. I was right, the painting was horrible. There was so much paint splashed on my nice stucco siding and the guys were sliding a ladder around on the siding leaving rubbed places in it. I complained that they had not even scrapped the wood before painting it. They painted over obviously rotten wood and even at that one coat that just vanished into the wood. So I was back to the drawing board as I talked to Bill McDavid who took it upon himself to bring Ian, (a very young and inexperienced foreman that had worked over the roof installers. They worked together the two of them and they seemed to make some progress in doing what they said they would in the beginning. But to no avail the painting they did was even worse than the others that started this mess. Bill Mcdavid was rude, ugly, and very unprofessional . I hope I never have to deal with this man again. Again After quite a few attempts to get I touch with someone higher up, I finally got Walker Baldwin. Walker seemed to be polite and since I had pictures of the damage and the paint that Bill Mcdavid had put on curling right up off the wood facia boards. Walker Baldwin then contracted another painter to do the work properly. All this started on MARCH 3,2015 and it was November 3,2015 when I last spoke with Walker to hopefully finalize this deal. Long story short I recommend that if you do business with this company get everything in writing first, Ask for Walker Baldwin and know that they are not painters. Do not pay them until the job is finished. They never did make good on any verbal promises. I hope this 50 year roof does last that long!

I had a difficult time finding a contractor to remove and replace skylights. Reliant was one of the few that would take on the job. The quote provided was nearly the same as the one other quote I was able to get so I think the price was fair. When providing the quote, Reliant did not order the correct type of skylight (ordered curb skylight instead of flush mounted). During installation, Reliant had already removed and replaced one and removed the second before they informed me of the problem. This severely limited my options as to how to correct the problem. Because the wrong type of skylight was reinstalled, the interior of the skylight well was not trimmed. I have had to call a finish carpenter to fix this problem all at my own expense despite the fact that I did not cause this problem. Additionally the skylights are a bit too large for the skylight well. This may be due to the fact that this is a retrofit but in any event, I was told about this issue before the job began so expectations were not clearly defined at the beginning of the job. The next day after installation I went up to look more closely and Reliant failed to put down underlayment (according to the manufacturer it is necessary to prevent against leaks and provide an airtight seal. I called Reliant and they were there within 48 hours to look at the problem, so I was happy that they were responsive. Once I showed them the issue, they were there the next day with a new team who removed and reinstalled the skylights. It appears the underlayment was installed. At this time, I do not see any leaks so I hope they were installed correctly. The duct that was supposed to be installed was supposed to be a soffit vent. When the bathroom vents were installed by another company, I was told the duct was just placed in the soffit and not connected to appropriate vents. My experience with Reliant was not the best and I will not use them again.

The shingles that they used have a 50-year warranty and they have copper impregnated in it so it will never mold or mildew. They were very professional as far as we had a hail storm and they pointed out some hail damage which I didn't even know was there and then I had our insurance company come out and found the same thing. So that's how we went up with the roof and they did it and again they did it in the timeframe they said they were going to do it. They're very professional, did a great job and cleaned up after themselves very well.

We chose this company after getting five estimates because their price was competitive (not the lowest), and we appreciated the professionalism of their proposal. They were the only company to suggest using shingles with a 3-M Scotchguard guaranty against algae growth. They were the only company to propose continuous soffit vents, and to inform us that the manufacturer's warranty on the shingles required the continuous vents. They were the only company to suggest lifetime boots on the vent stacks. There proposal included 30 lb. felt, and ice and water guard on a shallow-sloped porch roof. Most of the others specified 15 lb felt, and made no mention of special treatment for the porch roof. The job took more than one day to complete, and the weather turned too cold after the first day, so there was an unavoidable delay of 3 days. The roof was adequately protected with tarps, and the snowfall we had before the roof was finished apparently caused no problems. The two owners, Bill and Walker, were on the job themselves most of the time. Everything they had contracted to do was done thoroughly and carefully. The ridge vents run all the way to the edge of the roof, which looks better than what you see on most houses -- usually the roof vents stop a foot or so short of the edge. The finished product looks great.

I couldn't be more pleased with the work that Bill McDavid did! His punctuality, courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism were all well above what we have come to accept as "the Norm". Bill responded to my initial call personally, and arrived at my home within minutes of the scheduled time, Day 1: He climbed up on the roof to ascertain the amount of damage, then came into the house to survey the wall and ceiling damage. After much discussion about how he might accomplish repairs, we signed a contract, agreeing to all repairs specified the Insurance Company, at the cost suggested. Primary water damage was in the living room. Master Bedroom had minor damage in the form of water spots on the ceiling. Day 2. Bill returned to repair the roof. When he finished, he explained that he was going to wait until we received a decent rain before calling the roof job "finished". At that time, the interior repairs would be accomplished. Day ?: After several storms had passed, he came and made another FULL inspection. When no further water damage was discovered, he gave the go-ahead for the interior repairs. This job was completed in less than a day, and I cannot complement the workmanship enough. Actually, some time later, Bill returned to check up on the workmanship and to collect his check, which I gladly wrote out immediately. Thank You Bill, for a great job. I would like to add that one, and only one, phone call was necessary from me. Bill grabbed the ball and ran with it!

Very fast - they roofed the entire main roof in one day, including tar paper and shingles. They came back to do the porch roofs and finished them in under 3 hours. Very professional, and they cleaned up the jobsite afterwards.

Bill McDavid introduced himself soon after the storm after assisting my neighbor. He was very courteous and professional, but what sold me was his dog Jackson. A businessman who takes his dog to work with him is my kind of businessman. After coordinating with my insurance agent work began promptly. His crew was conscientious of my yard and flower beds. The roof was replaced in one day and by evening all scraps and material were removed. They even went around the yard with a magnet looking for missed nails. Because they worked with my insurance adjuster there was no cost to me. I would highly recommend them, they were fast and on time! But most importantly I love my new roof and the product they recommended. I live near the coast and architectural shingles that withstand hurricane level winds are peace of mind. And the day after the roof was installed Mr. McDavid came by to do his own inspection with his dog Jackson. I highly recommend Reliant Roofing.

We had a pretty bad hail storm come through our neighborhood that damaged our roof. Reliant Roofing came to your house and inspected our roof. They determined we did have hail damage and contacted our insurance company to meet with the adjuster. The insurance adjuster agreed with their assessment and told us how much they were willing to pay us for the new roof. Reliant agreed to charge us only the amount the insurance was willing to pay plus our deductible. Reliant is a very professional company and did a great job. I would highly recommend them to others.
