Description of Work: We had a water fixture break on our second floor and flood our house. It was pretty bad, even though the water only ran for 30 minutes. After the water restoration company dried out the place and the insurance claim was filed we called about 4 different contractors to come over and give us bids. NO ONE EVEN CALLED US BACK. Our insurance adjustor recommended Echkardt. y The7came over almost immediately after we called. I will forever be grateful for that, also the fact the put our house back together better than ever. Seems a small company maybe 10 ?? employees, The owner Dennis was great to deal with and so Was John Doermann who file all the papers and handled the finances with both the insurance company and the mortage company. Who held the insurance claim checks until the work was done. Best part of this company: I feel they are honest, reliable , quality of work was good, they handled all the paperwork, they repaired the house with upgrades .. more than the insurance company covered for under the cost of the estimate. Friendly , polite, return calls in timely manner, trustworthy in our home. I really liked these guys. Downfalls: They are not plumbers. (call your own), The flooring subcontractor they had working for them, was unreliable and unprofessional, eventually their flooring guys were fired. SLOW at times, Ie) they were doing other jobs while waiting for things we ordered to come in (ie floor, counters, carpet) . Which worked out for us, as I had a lot of decisions to make, but the repairs just took a long time. All in all it was OK , as they saved us money and our home was upgraded & they were honest and easy to deal with. (Insurance claim was $22,000, )

Description of Work: Home burned down and I was referred to Eckhardt Construction Services out of Wilmington, NC. I called their references and found satisfied customers so I hired the company. Dennis Eckhardt is the owner and General Contractor and did not spend any time on site supervising his Spanish speaking 3 person crew. I mentioned errors as the house was being built because I drove by the house building weekly. I could not communicate with the crew and Mr. Eckhardt told me he did not need to supervise his crew. I was insured to have my home replaced with like or better materials. Now that I have moved into my home I have a list of 40 items that have many critical issues that Mr. Eckhardt refuses to correct saying I am too hard to please. I have documented through other professionals that the roof was poorly installed, taps pulling up, gutters unusable because the shingle overshoot them, instead of replacing my wood blinds he put in faux wood blinds, he replaced my charcoal whole house filter with some brand from Shanghai that is not a charcoal whole house filter but a water softener and I have extreme allergies to chlorine and ammonia used to sterilize city water. He refuses to replace this unit with the proper unit although I sent him all information on the correct filter. He framed the living room 1 foot larger which shrank my kitchen and the cabinets by one foot, a large usability issue. Very little is level in my home including doors, toilet, safety bars in bath, cabinets, counter top, vanity in master bath. His workers used the glass top vanity in Master bath as a tool chest and scratched up glass top before I even moved in. He built my laundry room where I can barely get my washer and dryer into the room with the recommended space between them. Room has to be rebuilt. Hairs in the paint on the walls, dents in new drywall, walls painted poorly need another coat to blend, trim not sanded or painted with gloss paint. Dennis used verbal abuse to bully me into accepting downgraded materials and argued each issue I had with the problems in the house saying I was too picky. I can't go into each error but I am meeting with a lawyer today to mitigate these issues.
