Roofs R US Construction

Description of Work: I have a home in Roanoke Rapids NC that was in need of a roof. My primary home however, is in Phoenix AZ thats where I currently live. I solicited John Bass of Roof R Us Contruction to do the replacement/repair work. We entered into contract 8/30/17 via mail. I also sent a deposit toward the cost to perform the work along with materials in the amount of $2277.70 via check. Attached is the check mentioned. After 2 whole months of getting numerous excuses on why work haven't commenced,I decided to call on a more frequent bases to get an update. The excuses picked up as well. It ranged from Bad weather, Im in a meeting, I forgot, I fell asleep, My phone went dead to Im out of town. After my travels settled, I came to the conclusion that John Bass of Roofs R Us Contruction wasn't going to start nor complete the roof replacement/repair to my satisfaction. That's when I requested my deposit in full via text. John Bass ask for my return address & he agreed he would return my funds. (please see text history doc) On 10/18/17 John Bass said he would send my deposit via regular mail. After 5 business days, I never received it. I contacted him about that and more excuses started up again. He stated he forgot and didn't mail it until the next day. I then waited 2 more days, and still no check in the mail. I contacted him on Saturday 10/28/17 and request he send another check with tracking and informed me he would via priority mail. He also added he would send a tracking number that day cause he was going by the post office in 1hr from the time we were on the phone. I waited until 3pm MST that would make it 6pm EST in NC, thats when I requested the tracking number. John started again with the excuses, this time he fell asleep. Needless to say, I knew John had NO intentions to do any work nor return my funds. I asked for my funds once again and this is when he told me to stop worrying him about my money and to stop calling him. I put in a formal complaint with the local police department and they took my statement. I would like to throw any and all resources at this, that cause I do not have funds to give away or to lose with the weather rapidly changing and the amount of monies that are in question. After looking at the even closer my check was endorsed & passed on to a collections agency. Looks to me that he is in financial troubles and took my down payment to pay a collection account and not get materials for my work on my house there in Roanoke Rapids NC.

Description of Work: Hurricane Matthew really messed up our roof. After meeting with the insurance adjuster, it was determined our roofing needed to be completely replaced. Water was actually running through the ceiling of our upstairs bathroom. My husband contacted John Bass.

Description of Work: My husband called them 4 times and left messages asking them to call him to schedule a time to come to our home and give us an estimate for roofing work. They have never responded.

Description of Work: We had to call them 5 times and always got an excuse. They never gave us a quote always had some type of excuse. He said he had it but it was in his other truck or on his desk. He would say I will call you and bring it by never got a call or got the quote. We just gave up after 5 call to them to get it.
