Initially, Brian seemed very nice and professional and competent. On the day that they were scheduled to take out the trees, they were LATE. I waited until almost an hour after they were scheduled to show-up and I finally had to call Brian myself to find out what was going on. He said something about having to pull a team together and said they would be out in about an hour. Over an hour later one guy showed up, then, another 60 minutes or so later, the other 2 guys came. The guys who actually cut down the trees and hauled out the debris did a great job. Brian showed up when they were about halfway through the job and said that they would not be able to grind the stump today because the belt on their stump grinder was broken. We agreed to take off $100 at the time, which would be paid to them when they finished the job. Brian also asked us if we could pay at least partly in cash so that he could pay one of his workers in cash today. We thought this was unprofessional and should have been requested beforehand, however, we went ahead and paid cash for part of the service since the workers did a great job. Brian took off and we never saw him again. I called him many, many times to find out when they were going to come out and grind the stump. When Brian did actually answer my call (he never returned any of my messages), we scheduled a time when they would come out to grind the stump. The day came for them to show up and they never came, noone ever called, and I haven't heard from Brian since. He did not return messages and did not answer my phone calls to find out what was going on. Shame on us for not holding back more money when we realized they would not finish the job that day. We expect the best of people and hope all people to be honest until they prove otherwise. Brian certainly proved otherwise. The fact that he does not have a business address on his business card perhaps should have been a clue to us. Brian does not know how to prioritize work calls and has a real problem with being straightforward and honest about what he is and isn't going to do. Dealing with him was exhausting and aggravating. We ended up contacting Lindsey's Landscaping and Tree Removal Services who did a FABULOUS job grinding the stump! They came out the following day when they said they would, they were thorough, and their price was reasonable. We wish we had gone with them in the first place.
Description of Work: We recently bought a new home and had several dead trees which needed to be removed. I called about 4 different companies for estimates. We ended up going with B & J because even though their quote was about the same as the other companies, Brian - one of the owners - said that he would be able to grind the stump for one of the trees, too. He even included this on a written quote, as well as he agreed to haul out a lot of debris that we had accumulated in the backyard. The other companies said they would not be able to grind the stump as our backyard is fenced in and the stump grinders they had were too large to fit through the gate.
