I have known Doug Key for many years and he is fair and honest. The work performed was of professional quality at a fair price. There was some changes that had to be done and some digging out of the crawl space to get the new air handler installed but they took care of all that. I have them do an anuual inspection so as to keep the 10 year warranty. They show up on time and check everything out. I would highly recommend them to anyone and have to several friends and family members.

This was a Saturday when the temperature was in the high 90s, and the AC had gone out. We hadn't noticed the AC not working until early afternoon because the house has lath board and plaster walls and because we usually keep the AC around 80. So I finally got through to a company that was answering the phone. The AC person arrived 2 hours after I contacted the receptionist. The receptionist had said that he would contact me and be there within an hour. I believe the receptionist told me that it would cost overtime. I had flipped the breaker to the heat pump and had taken off the housing from the heat pump and disconnected the fan motor capacitor. When he arrived and started to look at the unit, he said that it was a bad idea to open up the unit without knowing what I was doing. This seemed to sound more preachy than being from concern, but I just responded that was the reason I called him. I showed him the capacitor and told him I thought one of the terminals looked like it had gotten fried (there was a little blue-black charring around the hole in one of the capacitor terminals), and that I realized I wasn't going to be able to buy a capacitor anywhere in Greensboro that day and that the only people who would have those parts would be AC repair people. He dismissed my proposed explanation and proceeded to check the conductivity/resistance for the various components of the heat pump that he thought could be involved. He finally arrived at the conclusion that the capacitor needed replacing because it was registering low. But the fan still wouldn't run, so he surmised that it might be a defunct motor. However, I showed him a very goopy looking wire coming from the fan motor and he examined it and then ripped it in half with no effort because the wire had been fried in half and the goopy plastic or rubber on outside of the wire was a result of that short. He finally put it all together and said that the electrical storms the night before had probably sent a surge through the unit and two crossed wires caused it to short and burn up one wire and also the capacitor. He put it all back together, included the housing that I had taken off. For 25 minutes work, he charged $140 for one hours work, plus parts. I suppose they don't charge partial hours, or maybe there is a 1-hour minimum, and it was certainly worth what I paid, but that labor charge seemed a little out of whack even though it was an obnoxiously hot Saturday. He did very good work, but was not very professional nor very personable. I'd hire them again in another emergency situation, but wouldn't seek them out for being my regular AC people nor for installing a new system since he didn't seem very responsive to my questions about energy efficiency of various kinds of AC systems and heat pumps.
Description of Work: Repair of heat pump, specifically testing it to see what was wrong and then replacing the fan motor capacitor and also splicing a wire back together that had melted/broken.

They are a father and son owned company and they are very good at what they do. Whenever I call he always gets right back to me. If there is something small wrong with it he will give me tips on how to fix it myself, so I don t have to pay for a service call. He is very honorable and a polite man. He is punctual and he is not out to rip me off. He did a very good job on my unit and I will continue to use him.
