Contacted Chris through Angie's List. His email response was prompt. He said that he could schedule a time for one morning a week later. That morning came and went. No sign of Chris. I called him and somehow he had not put me on the schedule. He did apologize for the error and the inconvenience, but instead of trying to remedy the situation and schedule something immediately, he wanted me to wait yet another week for another appointment. I am going with someone else. I hear great things about his workmanship and professionalism, but his organizational skills seem to be lacking. Such a shame. Chris, Thanks for the response. I do believe that this was probably a one off situation as you stated, and I'm sorry it didn't work out. I still hear very positive things about your service. As soon as I have more renovation to do, I will definitely try again.

They do a really nice job. The owner is very polite and on time. He is thorough. His prices are fair. I cannot say enough good about them. I would definitely have them again. I would recommend anyone who needed renovations or odd jobs. They can do anything.

Chris Sampson (the owner of Custom Construction and Custom Electric) has been our "go-to" home repairman/renovator for the past 4 years. We first used his services to correct approx $#30,000 worth of home repairs that were needed on the home we had just purchased. Everything he did was competitively priced, and he would take a lot of time investigating multiple options so we had choices regarding what we wanted done. We have been 100% satisfied with all the work he has ever done for us (he has done a lot of additional repairs and renovations since we first contracted with him in 2008), and have never needed to call anyone else for any home repairs. No matter what the need has been, Chris has been able to handle the job. We have also referred him to many of our friends and co-workers, and they have all been extremely pleased with his work. Custom Construction is a very reliable company with an exceptional work ethic and attention to details. Client satisfaction is taken very seriously, and all work is completed on or before the contracted time frame. I can confidently say that if you hire Custom Construction for any job, you will not be disappointed.

We have owned a home with an outdoor deck for 25 years. In that time, we have purchased deck furniture, decorated with plants and accessories and then sat inside and looked out at it unused. The mosquitos in our wooded lot would eat you alive if you tried to enjoy the outdoors! So we decided to add a screened porch, which is the single most expensive project we?ve initiated since the original purchase of our home. I was nervous about finding a contractor who would be honest, hardworking and skilled. What a pleasure to find this company, and Chris Sampson. He is the best contractor we?ve have ever dealt with, in our 25 years of home ownership. He was punctual and attentive at all of our pre-project appointments, making very good suggestions about details for the building of our screened porch. We were totally impressed with his professionalism. His quote met our budget, so we hired Custom Construction & Renovation to remove our old open deck, and build a new deck with screened porch on the same footprint. Work began quickly and on the day promised. The work crew came every single day, with a few exceptions that Chris cleared with me first, and worked full days. They cleaned up the work site every evening before leaving. Each decision along the way was first discussed with us, and options were always presented. Zeke & Zach were the main crew, and were polite and considerate at all times. Their knowledge of construction, and attention to detail was impressive. All the other men brought in to help were also skilled craftsmen who did really good work. We hit a few snags, as can always be expected. We had to cut down a large old oak that grew too close, and we had to move the natural gas company meter. That added a bit to our final cost, but Chris handled the details skillfully. Near the end, we added another small job onto the original plan, and they handled that quickly, efficiently and for a reasonable fee. They finished on time, cleaned up every bit of building debris, made a final punch-list visit, and left us with a porch is well built, nice looking and which we will enjoy for many years to come. We wholeheartedly recommend this company!

We were very pleased with them. They were well organized very detailed oriented and just wonderful people.

Chris gave us an estimate on the work that was needed. He started work on January 9th. Chris is extremely professional and the team that works with him are fantastic. They are all hard workers and take the time to do a good job with whatever they are doing. They were all very pleasant to work with. They did a great job with our renovation. Chris does pay attention to detail and is very good about making sure you are happy with the work that is done. We plan to use him for future renovations and updates. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking to renovate their home.

Chris is the best contractor I have ever dealt with. He was completely professional throughout the whole process. Chris was on time for our first meeting. He listened attentively to our ideas, provided appropriate feedback, and made excellent suggestions based on our budgetary and time constraints. Chris always gave us options, as well as his opinions based on the experiences he's had with similar houses. That first meeting lasted almost 2 hours and it was very reassuring to see the knowledge and attention to detail that Chris brought tothe table. Chris began working almost straight away. At every stage of the process, he went out of his way to work around my family's schedule (with a wife working from home and 2 small kids, that was sometimes pretty hectic). Chris introduced all of his sub-contractors and coordinated their activities seamlessly so as to provide minimal disruption. Whenever we hit snags due to weather or unexpected difficulties, Chris kept us updated with new schedules, cost revisions, etc. In many cases, Chris recommended a course of action that worked out cheaper for us - effectively putting less money in his pocket. I must also mention Chris' point man on the job. Zach was possibly the most considerate, well mannered, well spoken tradesman its been my pleasure to deal with. He took time to explain to my son what he was doing - sanding, painting, drilling. It got to the point where William would ask where Zach was when he came home from school. The finished job was better than I expected. Everything we wanted to do was done - on time and under budget. We paid a little extra for some minor improvements that came up along the way, which was just icing on the cake. I am a lot happier with my new house. It's fresher, more functional, and much improved all around. I cannot recommend Chris and Custom Construction highly enough. Thanks mate!

My story is one question up. I just got carried away with enthusiasm!

The estimate did not take very long, and the actual price was within the ballpark of the estimate. The contractor agreed that if there were unforeseen problems not covered in the estimate, he would do the repair work at cost. Luckily, there were no unforeseen problems. The amount of time the job took was on point with the estimate. The contractor was very responsive and patient with my questions. My new bathroom is beautiful and is exactly what I wanted. If I have any other contracting work, I will call Chris first.

Overall, work turned out very well. Chris is the contact person, and he was great to work with. His crew was really professional. Our basement is under the apartment, so they just keenly went, and it didn't disrupt our lives. He kept us informed all the way along. He answered questions when we had them. They had a professional clean up in the end. They cleaned everything else. They were very helpful and co-operative. The only thing I would recommend is that their prices are a little bit high, and to look for other quotes as well.

They were reliable and clean. I liked their attention to details. They were very courteous. It was a really good experience. I rate them as excellent overall. I am going to use them again in a few weeks.

I asked for an estimate about a month prior to actually starting(my choice-was leaving for a trip) I met with Chris prior to my departure, we finalized out what I needed to have done and purchased prior to them coming in. My choice was to do some of the work ourselves and make all the material purchases. Custom Construction was willing to work with me on this and patiently explained what to look out for, what not to buy and the options I had. I was on a tight budget so it was nice that they were willing to work with me. Based on the meeting prior to my departure, it was decided to start on June 18th and finish up by July 22nd. Chris was kind enough to recommend some places to look for materials but did not require that I use them. I was smart enough to listen concerning the vanity top and cabinet. I was able to purchase what I liked at a reasonble cost and the supplier was able to have it ready as promised.. Custom Construction stopped by the Monday before to confirm we were on schedule and remove the toilet to make it easier for us. They then arrived promptly on Monday, July 18th at 9:00 a.m. to begin demo work. The path in an out of the house was protected with coverings, the gentlemen performing the demo work were all instroduced, very hardworking professionals and very polite. I felt very safe and that the job was being done correctly. Each evening Chris touched based with to check to see if I had any concerns, he always checked with his workers to make sure that they had everything they needed and he let me know what to expect the next day. In addiiton, whenever someone new came to the house-he also made sure to be there to introduce them and explain what they would be doing. Everyone that entered worked very hard, was very polite and very professional! All of them listened and answered any questions I might have had and reassured me that it would turn out beautiful! They were correct! I love the work that was done-my bathroom looks completely new, they kept on schedule(completed work on Friday, July 22nd), did what was promised and there is no doubt it was done by professionals!

We had a problem kitchen ? unlevel floor, bad linoleum, crooked walls. Chris confidently answered all our questions, had some good ideas, and offered us options. We felt very comfortable with him in charge. Chris and his crew showed up exactly on time and set to work efficiently. Each man knew his job and did it well. No one stood around wondering what to do. Another thing that impressed us was that Chris came with his own shop vac, trash can, broom and dust pan AND cleaned up along the way. How many men do that? Chris was very patient during our design changes and a helpful resource. Some words and phrases that come to mind: - attention to detail - expert craftsmanship - prompt, professional, courteous - respectful of our home and our input Chris and his crew took problems and turned them into ideal solutions. The result is an absolutely beautiful kitchen floor. It's hard to believe it's the same room.

Chris and his guys were on time and professional. The core work (replacing the subflooring, insulation and drywall) was pretty straight-forward - no surprises there, everything done to satisfaction. One drywall joint on an oddly angled corner didn't come out straight, and when discussed, they dug in and attempted to correct it, and then ultimately removed the drywall sheet and re-did that corner to ensure it was 100% correct - so, even the only hiccup they handled appropriately. The additional work of investigating the multiple water leaks was where the real challenges were. Ultimately we found 3 leaks. Chris and his team did an outstanding job of thoroughly investigating each issue discussing them with me, and recommending the right approach, balancing cost with "doing it right". Chris discussed all possible options and price points for each, discussed applicable building codes, and I felt very confident I had a competent consultation on the options for tackling each leak. With one, they found the wall framing was too water damaged to maintain integrity, and replaced the studs, as well as the exterior wood siding, staining to match. The most significant leak was due to a design flaw in the original design of the home's entry way, which was designed to basically funnel water right into the front door and stand there with no drainage, slowly seeping it's way through any crack/crevice until it saturated subfloor and joists. Due to the unique design of the house, correcting this was a challenge... but I was impressed with the out of the box solution they came up with, which ultimately corrected the original design flaw, eliminating the problem entirely. Kudos to Jeff who worked very late into the evening several nights to keep them on schedule despite the surprises associated with tackling each leak (all 3 which were unknown scope at start of job). In short, I consider Chris and his team to be: competent, capable and honest. As such, I will use them again, and would recommend them. We plan to have them replace 5 sliding glass doors in the coming month(s).

Chris and Jeff were on time, did their work very professional. The plumber, was very professional. We were very pleased with all the workmanship.

This company is extremely reliable and professional, and does excellent work that is reasonably priced. Chris has at times come up with very creative and cost-effective solutions to problems in our home to help ease the financial strain of repairing an older and poorly maintained house. One example of this dealt with cracks in some tiles in our kitchen floor. Apparently the floor was not laid properly and there was an uneven area below a certain section of tiles. Because the floor was laid many years ago we were unable to find a close match to the pattern and color of the tiles. Instead of having to replace the entire floor, Chris removed the tiles from the effected area and laid a very beautiful design using wood flooring (that matched our kitchen cabinets and wood floors in adjoining rooms). He used a different type of grout to give more flexibility to that area because the floor was uneven, and it has worked out wonderfully and we have had no further cracking in the kitchen floor. People often comment on how beautiful the wood design is in our tile floor, and can't believe that was done to repair a problem with the floor!!! This is just one example of many that illustrates the exceptional work done by this company, and the personalized service you receive. I trust Custom Construction with any type of work that needs to be done- and have never had any problems or complaints. I give this company my HIGHEST recommendation for quality work and exceptional customer service!!!

This contractor is by far the best contractor I have ever worked with.....they do the job, when they say they will with professionalism and excellent quality. The owner Chris Samson is very personable and tremendously helpful in finding creative ways to get the job done for the least amount of money. I highly recommend using this company and will continue to use them for all repair and renovation projects.
