They came in and quickly diagnosed the problem (clogged drained pipes causing a mini flood in the basement) and fixed it. Air is back on and leaking has stopped.

The worker arrived at the early end of the time slot provided by the company, listened to the "symptoms" I described, made a preliminary diagnosis, and climbed into the attic to examine all the parts of the system he thought might be involved. In short order he had replaced the filter (which had only lasted about half the time it was supposed to, according to the package) and learned that my attic fan was burned out. He reviewed pricing information with me, then contacted the company and arranged for another worker to bring a replacement fan out right away. Once it arrived, he had it installed in just minutes. Of course, I paid more than I wanted to, but I think, overall, it was reasonable (included a service call charge). The worker was friendly and knowledgeable.

Tech was more concern with replacing the whole unit. Will take him up to seven days to order a power vent. We have two HVAC parts warehouse in Greensboro NC. Tech was not concern with my family having no heat in the dead of winter. Power vent was replaced three hours later by a another company and furnace been working for two years with no other service called.

We were here 2/27/15. Our tech found a bad power vent that needed to be replaced. It was one we did not have in stock and would have had to order. Based on your unit being installed in 1993 he recommended you considering replacing the over 22 year old unit instead of throwing major money on repairs. Per our notes you were going to call back with your decision. I am glad someone else had the part on hand and was able to replace it for you that day and that it is still running now. You are more lucky than most to get that many years out of a furnace. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to help you in the future. Robert Bain 336-299-0531

Their technicians are great. The problem is Robert Bain. He flatly refused to even communicate with me. He lacks integrity. Always third party communications. Will not stand behind the work performed.
Description of Work: Below is a communication I sent to Bain. It was sent prior to the discovery that the job was not permitted or inspected. Lawrence Montenegro 108 Hilltop Road Thomasville, NC 27360 336-313-#### Lora Luther, Responding to the communication I received in regards to the stop payment of check #5709. Let me begin by letting you know the service I have received from Bain has been terrific. I would expect no less from a company with your stellar reputation as yours. I am sure you would agree that your stellar reputation is an extremely valuable asset. The service performed on January 07, 2018 is not the issue. The service was performed and the issue resolved. At the time of service I did draft check ####. The cause of the service interruption was a connection in a junction box installed during the relocation of the air handler from the attic to the crawlspace performed in August, 2014. Invoice number 201670. The connection in question required joining copper wires to aluminum wires. It is critical that particular connection is done correctly. A faulty connection will cause arcing and eventually burn up, possibly resulting in a structure fire. I communicated with licensed electricians at Beco Electric and Salem Electric. They asserted that a proper connection, performed to the electrical code of Thomasville, North Carolina, should last the life of the structure. That seems to be well beyond 40 (forty) months. Learning this I feel the service call that was required was the result an improper connection made in August, 2014. Therefore the charge of the service performed, buy a reputable company, would naturally be negated. A stellar reputation is a valuable asset. Furthermore I fully expect the stop payment fee charge of $ 35.00 (thirty-five dollars) be deducted from the balance of my service contract with Bain. This will leave a balance of $100.00 (one-hundred dollars) on my account. Respectfully, Lawrence Montenegro *************************************************************************************************************************** The following paragraph was a response from Bain concerning a negative review ( I thought I was filing a complaint. I placed against them. The a, b and c I added for clarification. I am sorry about your negative feelings towards all that has happened. (a) We have worked with both you and the inspection department to make this correct. This all comes down to an after hours bill you canceled payment on. (b) We have done everything in our power to make you a satisfied customer but when something that had a (c) one year warranty on it has an issue 3.5 years later the labor and service call are billable. If you wish to publicly respond, please use the link below. [*** Link removed ***] Thank you! BBB Serving Central North Carolina 529 College Rd. Suite G P: 336-852-4240 ********************************************************************************************************* (a) THE WORK PERFORMED IN AUGUST 2014 WAS DONE WITHOUT A PERMIT OR INSPECTION FROM THE THOMASVILLE INSPECTION DEPARTMENT. Which is required by code. The reason the inspection department was involved is because I called them, not Bain. Keith Scogging confirmed that the job was not permitted or inspected. Keith Scogging along with another inspector inspected the re-work performed on January 7, 2018. The re-work was OK. When inspecting the junction box in question they acknowledged the evidence of the burned connections. They also saw evidence indicating the original connection in 2014 was questionable. He stated that IF the job had been inspected in 2014 they would have noticed an improper connection. At this point in time he can not definitely say it was faulty although the evidence suggests otherwise. During this inspection they found other code violations for the August 2014 original installation. The issues bane is now addressing would not be issues if the job WAS INSPECTED originally. (b) They did nothing except DEMAND payment. (c) I can understand a one year warranty on electrical components such as relays, capacitors and switches etc. The connection in question is not a component. It is hard wired from the service panel and is not a maintenance item, it has NO MOVING PARTS. As previously stated should of lasted well beyond forty months. Therefore I feel in light of these facts the original install was not adequate and resulted in the January 2018 failure. ************************************************************************************************************************* WARNING to ALL in the North Carolina Triad area. DO NOT use Bain Heating and Air Conditioning. My house could have burned down as a result of their workmanship. A junction box installed by them burned up. Why? They did not get a permit to do the work from the City of Thomasville Inspections Division as required by law. As a result the work performed was NOT INSPECTED. Had the work been inspected the faulty connection would have been discovered and repaired. Any customers of Bain can contact their City inspections division and have the work inspected. YOUR LIFE MIGHT DEPEND ON IT.

First off there was never any chance of a fire. One wire had a short in it and it was replaced. The homeowner had a one year warranty on all the work that was done in 2014. He became upset and irate because we would not write off a bill where we came out and fixed his system four years later. Bain was hired to move his heat pump and duct work from the attic to the crawl space. We had installed the original system in 2008 and everything was inspected and passed. In 2014 for some reason there was not a permit pulled when the equipment was moved. As soon as this became aware to me I pulled one. The inspector has looked at the unit and had a few small changes for us to make. All have been changed. This all comes down to us sending a technician out on a weekend for a repair and the customer not wanting to pay.

Mike, the Sales and Installation Manager was excellent. He explained what they would need to do, measured the house, checked the areas requiring installation and answered all questions. The Installers were very nice and professional. They covered their feet when entering the house and were careful around our walls/furnishings. Once the Installers completed their work Mike came back out and made a couple of changes to ensure everything passed code. The only negative was that we were told it would take 1 - 1 1/2 days for installation. We were a little surprised that the installers only worked half days. The way it was scheduled caused us to take additional time off work. The new Trane unit is nice and is operating well to keep the house cool. We haven't had a need to try the heating side of the unit yet. A nice lady at Bain contacted us to gather information and then submitted all information for our Duke Energy rebate. We received our rebate card very quickly. It took Bain a couple of weeks to contact us to set up the inspection with the county. They set it up for a specific date on line. Just a heads up, they do not set it up for a specific time so you may end up waiting most of the day like I did.

My heating and air conditioning unit had a sticker on it for another company. So we called them and they came out and told us that the unit was dead and he was going to have to put in a new unit. They quoted us a price of $7500. I wanted a second opinion so I called Bain Heating & Air and when they got here he immediately looked at my unit and he said you know I think this is still under warranty. He made a phone call and said yes it is still under warranty. He looked at it and figured out what was wrong, ordered the parts and all we had to pay was for the labor and knock on wood it has worked ever since.

We were extremely pleased with how every aspect of the process went with Bain. I first called Bain to come out to diag the issue. I really appreciated how the tech, I think his name was Rob?, was sure to show me the problems and explain everything he was seeing along with safety concerns. I am a woman and sometimes it is assumed I wouldn't understand or am uninterested. So that was a nice change of pace. Once we were told we needed a new one (it was over 30 years old and well past time) they sent their sales rep out. Mike, the sales rep, is a winner. His knowledge is invaluable given his history as an install guy himself. He was able to tell us how the entire process would go, what to expect with how everything would look when completed, down to what tress/shrubs may need to be removed for safety (which they hauled away). They were even super courteous about trying to keep our grass nice in the process. The install guys were also friendly and knowledgeable. They walked us through the use of the new wifi capable thermostat and made sure we were happy with everything before they left. They took their time and got it right. It was a big job given the vicinity of the large trees/roots and the size of the unit. They put it on a gravel pad to allow for the roots to grow without interference. We did get other quotes, but again, none really compared to Mike's knowledge when trying to sell their units. Prices were comparable and Bain has a great financing option for the unit we chose. We had one small issue the next day and they were out within 15mins to fix. Overall we are very impressed with everything. They made a big nasty purchase a pleasurable experience. And we love the system! Never thought i'd be so excited about a new heating/air unit :)

The first person to come out was Mike, who was on time, he was professional and knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions and explained everything thoroughly. They were able to start work within the week, the two men who came to remove the old system were also on time, courteous, professional and pleasant people. It was understandably a mess during the process but they were great about keeping it manageable. The job took the estimated time, and the people who came to the house were all great! Will definitely use Bain for any needs in the future. Oh and they also offered the best financing around.

I originally called to renew our service agreement (which was scheduled for July). They were nice enough to let me renew it early and scheduled someone to come out. Our upstairs AC was going from bad to worse so I called on 4/28 (day before they were scheduled out) and asked if anyone were available for that day to have my service agreement renewed and service the units. They were very good about setting expectations, but James ended up being able to make it out. Unfortunately the office had him out for a repair vs. maintenance, so he was only there to try and fix the AC, so I would have to pay for 2 visits. He worked some magic and ended up doing the service as well as attempting to fix, which was great. It turns out after he performed services, he found a leak that he suggested a replacement would ultimately be cheaper. I questioned why we bothered servicing the unit at all and how the units shower no signs of being low on freon of having any issues on their last service appointments. Then he found a slight leak in the other unit and a few hundred dollars was quickly turning into 15k to 20k as he mentioned we should also replace the furnace upstairs as well. I mentioned we were not happy about the drastic change in the health of the systems they have a service agreement on and we would be getting some competitive estimates and for that reason did not want to enter into another service agreement with Bain at that time. He understood and after some haggling he said he would charge me 129/unit or 260. He came in with an invoice for 310 without mentioning anything about the discrepancy. I asked him about it and he said he ended up not being able to waive the $70 fee. It was at that point I told him not to bother sending a sales rep and cut him a check. It was unfortunate either way, either he made a gut call that they might lose my business (or get a second opinion that did not shed favorable light on them or his back office didn't back him on the agreement we had). Either way, not a company I will do business with. $70 probably ended up costing them a fair amount of money they would have made on the new unit and service around it. I don't know if Don still works there but he is fantastic. We loved having him perform our services.

Several days ago I made an appointment for Bain to come to my house at 8:00 this morning and quote replacement of my air conditioning system. The appointment was confirmed by the office manager after she talked to the tech who was to visit my house. I had to take off work to meet them. They were a no-call/no-show for the appointment. I take this as a very poor sign of either not caring or being very disorganized and so will not consider doing business with them.

Initially I thought it went well but within a short time I had problems and discovered that there was a ton of mold in my duct work and in the system. Bain would not own up to it. Even tough I had only had the new system for 18 months they put the entire blame on me and would not fix it. They did make an unacceptable offer but I decided that I would be better off to go with another HVAC company. I have never regretted that decision. Bain is a company with a good reputation but they are still responsible for what their people do and they did not live up to their reputation with me. I for one will never use them again!

I am sorry with the way you believe things happened with this situation. We did put a new system in for you and it was working correctly. A year later you told us you had a client who was doing HVAC work and you were going to start using them. You also told us that this new company found mold in all of your Ductwork and new unit. I sent a technician out and all he was able to find was some slight mildew(film) in one of the pieces of Duct. This was old Ductwork that was not replaced when we did the install so we quoted you a very reasonable price to replace the piece. All I have is my notes here on your account and the notes my technician took to go on. I am sorry we lost your future business.

Right before Thanksgiving on a Monday, the HVAC in the home we purchased only months before, conked out completely. Had no heat. Called Bain and phone rep was extremely helpful. Sent tech out within the hour to diagnose issue. He wasn't trying to rope us in, on the contrary he looked at our system, showed us exactly what was wrong, why it had stopped working. He suggested we have it replaced. He also suggested we could repair it. We went with replacement since the unit was probably over 10 years old anyway. Someone came out within the hour, looked at our ducts and the unit (a gas pac) and sat down with us to go over all the options available for replacement from most expensive to least expensive. Of course no HVAC is cheap to install, but we chose a good fit for our budget and a quality Trane product. To get us through the cold weather before leaving, the rep from Bain supplied us with two ceramic heaters to use until our system was in place. The following day on Tuesday, in the sleet and freezing rain, Bain was here ALL DAY installing our new system, which included a new programmable thermostat for the inside. I just assumed they wouldn't show b/c of the weather. VERY surprised they came. Were here all day banging away. They did have to return on Wednesday because the ducts took a little longer than expected but was no need to get inside, as we had departed for a trip North for the holiday. By the afternoon on Wednesday, my neighbor phoned to let us know we had heat. We will ABSOLUTELY use Bain again in the future. They were respectful, punctual and very professional. I would highly recommend this company.

Every time the furnace started up there was a heavy vibration. I called Bain and they had a technician at my house the same afternoon. The technician was very knowledgeable and professional. He located and corrected the problem quickly. I have a service contract with Bain and will continue to rely on them for my future heating and air conditioning services.
