Mr. Ray performed shoddy workmanship in the bathroom and installing the floors. The plumbing in the bathroom was not plumbed to code. The laminate floors were supposed to have an under-layment installed first, but Mr. Ray did not do put down the underlayment. This resulted in extremely uneven floors, causing gaps between the flooring and subfloor. He refused to fix these problems. We contacted the general contractor. Jim Weaver, who also refused to fix the problem. After numerous attempts to get them to fix the problems, we filed complaints with the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors against Ray and Weaver, and filed a lawsuit against Jim Weaver. He in turn filed a lawsuit against Mr. Ray. As a result of the lawsuit, it was disclosed and admitted by Michael Ray, that he perfomed unlicensed plumbing and electrical work in the basement of our home. Mr. Ray indicated that Mr. Weaver had full knowledge of this. Mr. Ray was put on probation by the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors. In order to avoid jeopardizing his license, Mr. Weaver bought the house back from us for full price, and paid our attorney's fees associated with the lawsuit. These are Michael Ray's words on a sworn affadavit to the NC State Board of examiners for Electrical Contractors, dated March 5, 2008: 'That I now understand the electrical contracting licensing laws ... I have ceased any and all electrical contracting in NC until such time as I have qualified for and obtained an electrical license ...I will not engage nor offer to engage in electrical contracting..." These are Mchael Ray's words on a sworn affadavit to the NC State Board of RExaminers for Plumbing Contractors dated March 28, 2008: "... I do not hold myself out to the public licensed or authorized to perform plumbing services and it was not my original intent to engage in plumbing work at Mr. Xxxx's house. I hereby submit that I will not perform any plumbing work in the future without fully complying with all laws in NC..."
Description of Work: Michael Ray was hired as a subcontractor, by the general contractor/realtor, Jim R. Weaver, who sold us a new construction home, to finish a roughed-in basement in February 2007. Mr. Ray put up the walls, ceiling, lighting, finished the bathroom, installed a gas fireplace and laid laminate flooring.
