Quoted $75 per hour for job plus materials. Initial invoice was for $475. My estimate of materials is about $100 so labor charge of $375 seemed high since job took no more than 3 hours counting travel. Contractor's position seemed to be that there was a "standard" amount of time to do a particular job, much like auto mechanic's standard time to do a particular repair. Therefore, if he was able to do job quickly, he should be able to get paid for the standard, not actual. We settled on $400 for job. Very professional electrician while on job-seemed to be very nice person. Just thought his pricing was too high.
Description of Work: Replaced 7 GDCI in two rooms. installed dryer electrical outlet. Replaced ceiling light outlet.

Response from PREVATT ELECTRIC
[Member name removed] contacted me and asked me to estimate a job for him over the phone. He asked me to price wiring a dryer, changing out 2 receptacles to the GFCI type. I told him the price would be between $400-$500 dollars. He agreed on the price with no questions. I completed all the work he requested and more. He purchased a keyless bulb holder and asked me to replace it under the house. I did. He failed to mention that I also took more time on the GFCI receptacles and replaced at least 8 more receptacles for him. Also, he had to have his job completed on a short notice so I did it on a Sunday for him and made two additional trips more to the house for a special order breaker he needed. I really wish I would have had him sign a contract but I trusted him. I did above and beyond the work he requested. After all the work was finished I billed him $450 or $475 which was in the middle of the estimated price. He called me and told me I was over charging him. I asked him what he thought he should pay and he said $400 would be a fair price. I should have just asked him from the beginning what he wanted to pay me to do the job for him. The 2 GFCI's were 20.00 each and the tamper proof outlets were 2.00 each totaling 16.00. The quad breaker was 35.00. The flex, connectors, wire and straps , screws and etc. totaled at least 25.00.
