Description of Work: We were e-mailed an opportunity to rate this company by Angie's List because we looked at their profile while searching for a lawn service to replace them. We used Emerald Green's residential maintenance and chemical services, and have been very disappointed. They enthusiastically led us to believe they would treat our yard as if it was their own, but they certainly did not. Neither their weekly service nor their many chemical treatments were executed to our satisfaction. | |When we met with EG's owner, he insisted they had capability to do all weekly maintenance, and this was part of their business they were interested in growing in our area. Other neighbors we spoke with had only used some of their chemical services. We had recently moved, and there was much that could be done to enhance our landscaping. They began doing work for us in March of 2014, and for two weeks they were eager to work and had seemingly good recommendations. Apparently this was just prior to their busy season, as their work for us quickly fell off and jobs were not completed. Initially EG moved many of our shrubs, most of which later died in spite of having irrigation. We had to contact them repeatedly to ask them to complete work they had started (sanding our drive, completing our flagstones, edging, etc.) The standard reply was "sorry for the delay in getting your jobs done" along with a date they would do it, but only once did they actually show on the date promised. Only after asking second and third times did they come. They were supposed to trim our Leyland Cypress branches that were dead as the result of ice earlier in the year but never did so: in March we asked if any branches could be salvaged by being tied up and they felt they could: when they did not show and we asked again, we were later told their crew actually went to the wrong house and tied someone else's branches. It took weeks for them to get to us and tie just a few branches. | |They were supposed to do two sandings of our stone drive: we paid for it in March and had to ask repeatedly when they would finish. They finally did a second sanding in August, and it was terrible. They used large grain, white sand that immediately washed out and continues to do so. Why they changed to this sand we do not know, but it was an absolute waste of money. | |They did show weekly to mow-blow-go. EG charged $180 per month for this, every other service they provided was extra-- they even charged an additional $10 per month to (supposedly) spray weeds in beds. Their monthly service was higher than other the other lawn service we had previously used, and EG did not include any chemicals as the other did. When we first met with them they sold us on their attention to detail, said they would pull weeds from the beds, but they never did-- we had weeds over 2' high and some well over 2' wide. They did not pick up any debris we left for them-a small pile sat in the middle of our patio (which they had to edge and blow) for two weeks until we contacted them and specifically asked them to get it on their next visit. | |We had them install a metal border around our flowerbeds, and they positioned it on top of the soil, did not dig a small trench per the manufacturer's instructions, resulting in a "wavy" edging that looked terrible. It will have to be reworked. | |The owner's brother serviced our irrigation system, sent a $300 invoice with no details, no phone number, only the address to which we should mail the check. We insisted on knowing the details of the work done, and after 3 weeks finally got an explanation from EG's owner. We were not happy with this-- we already had our system repaired and winterized less than five months prior, so these expenses were unexpected. In fairness some damage to the system was done by a company that installed a drain in our back yard, but still this was not detailed. Existing lines in the flowerbeds were left sticking up (not anchored or covered in mulch) and finished off in duct tape. When we initially reviewed all the irrigation, these were supposed to be easy corrections. | |Their chemical services were expensive and much more frequent than others performed in our area: they literally came at least every other week and left a $50-$60 invoice. At the end of the season, our turf was full of crabgrass. Early in March they also mulched our beds and pruned our plants: all services were a la carte. I am embarrassed to list what we have spent with them in the past six months. | |We were looking for more than a "mow and blow" residential service and EG disappointed. We have expressed these concerns to the owner. Most recently he replied by email that he would contact us to discuss and review, but that was a month ago. As we stated earlier, one of the reasons we joined Angie's List was specifically to find another lawn service. We are hoping for a much better experience in the future. |
